You still don't get it.

SOUP

Go Canes...I will help you with your blinders buddy. Don't worry, I have NOT given up hope on you yet! I am going to write a second article just for you titled, "Shades Of Gray".

You are the only blogger here to have TWO articles written about/for them. You should feel special!

Mark from Atlanta

All the b est to these young men! Chance of a lifetime. ..make Us proud!
I hope browns can find someone to throw a few balls to njoku. ..would've looked good in Fins gear!

I hope "where did that Corn come from? " ...or " I don't remember eating Corn?" become common comments in highlights. ..

God bless you and Go Canes!

Go Canes!

My final post about this.

It was never about who's the better player. Soup knows that but clicks are up so he's happy keeping this up, which is fine.

The question was who was the undisputed star, the face of the team during his time here?

Duke Johnson was and deservedly so.

How did the program do while he was here?

What's his record vs. the Power 5?

Is he the starting running back with the most losses in UM history?

How many bowl games did he win?

What was his record against FSU?

Did he beat Notre Dame?

Did he ever put the team on this back in a huge game and carry them to victory?

Those are the questions people on here use to rip Kaaya on here daily. If at the end of the day, both were the most important players on their teams, what is the difference between the two guys then.

As TSully so perfectly stated yesterday, they are two sides of the same coin.

But Soup tried to dumb it down to who's the better player and that's ok. It keeps people refreshing the feed.

Enjoy your next article, I hope you get plenty of comments.

Best of success to Our Canes as they transition from Student Athletes to Professional Athletes. Go CANES and It's all about the U!

Go Canes!

Oh and one more thing about what I said above. I'm not doing any of this to buid Kaaya up or knock Duke down.

I do it to illustrate how unfair it is to judge the overall success of a team based on the play of just one player.

At the end of it all, teams win and teams lose.

Kaaya brought them all the way back to take the lead in the fourth of some big games and the D gave it back. And there have been times when he's stunk it up and the D carried us.

Same with Duke who got the crap beat out of him in a ton of games only to have the D blow them.

To be a consistent winner you have to excel in all areas every game, it's not just one player.

NativeCane

Yall keep talking about Duke and Kaaya when you should be talking about that undersized dynamo in the defensive backfield.
Recruited by Canespaces own Willie Will in Nashville, hitting hard, breaking up passes, eating running backs alive, fierce protector of everything on the defensive side of the ball, King of D, O, and ST, scored on the most famous run back in College history. 55 solo tackles in 2016....55!!!

I would rather have 11 fearless Corn Elders than any of em!

I rest my case!

Well since the worst QB in UM history is gone and a guy that should have rode the pine all 3 Years he was here has exited Miami for Detroit. What are your expectations for this season. I have us going 15-0 and winning the National Championship what say U!

I guess you missed the part when I said the D carried us some games.

TruCane81

Naw CR. The gane green that rotted our program started at th3 top.

There is plenty of blame to go around for both the offense and defense during this long run of mediocre football.

The thing is even with some of the individual statistical success, Brad, Duke, and many other players on both sides of the ball never lived to their potential for one reason only.

We have seen both great coaching and inept coaching in recent years and the difference is obvious.

We have seen guys go from bums to draft picks and vice versa with only a position coach change.

Guys that stunk it up here are making millions due to the coaching upgrade.

Seeing what I have seen I cant criticize our players too much because they ALWAYS excel when properly used.

Whether the Nix screen fetish, Whipples pass on 1st run on 2nd, Al NO D's 3-4, or Richt's run run run punt, we have seen our players suffer by having bigger enemies on their own sideline than across the line of scrimmage.

SinisterCane

Go Canes!

We really don't know the kind of player Colbert was at UT.

He could have been underachieving and this was his reality check. We've seen a ton of players here get that Senior year wake up call. Maybe he was misused or coached inconsistently.

Regardless, I couldn't have been happier to see him blow up here AND become a great ambassador.

See a coaching future for him after his time in the show.

TruCane81

Man with the politics of cfb there is no telling what happened to Colbert.

Favoritism, laziness, naging injuries. Any of these could have resulted in his delayed ascendence to draftability.

All I know is Coach Richt and staff will be on the radar of every juco and graduate transfer after their masterful work with him.

Colbert's reliability was a buge plus for us and I hope we get the same from Dean.

TruCane81

Damn it feels good to feel like a real program again.

We aint won nothing yet but for the first time in years the optimismbis based on quality football management and not just wishful thinking.

I see that Burns decommitted, is that old news?

UMike

I know I might get some flack for this, but hear me out. Based on his high school career, it could be argued Duke underachieved at Miami. Now, dont take that as me saying he was bad when he was here, I dont think that, but the way he played in HS, especially is last playoff run, he should of had a career like Fournette, Cook etc. Again, not at all bashing him, I just remember him absolutely killing some of the best teams in Florida, going to the muck and running for over 200 when that seemed impossible etc.

NativeCane

UMike, Fournette and Cook had a deeper, talent laden, ungoldenized, supporting cast.
Wish Duke was a freshman today...

Dem Canes!!!

Terrance Sullivan

I will say this whether it was BK, DJ, CE, etc I think those guys did well considering that our Canes basically had one hand tied behind their back with impending probation and probation which started the Inquiry on August 2011 and the Probation ended on October 2016. The Fact that our Canes stayed above water in the toughest times and is ascending back up the mountain is a great thing. It sucked going through it but let's continue to climb the mountain.

Dude

Duke did have a career like that in my opinion. He took over several games, and never had a truly dominant oline. He hit several homeruns.

CaneRock

Kaaya never carried the program like Duke did. Who can forget His very first game against BC where He carried us to victory. If it wasn't for Duke, we go 4-8/5-7 that season. Would've won 8 games that season if D'Onfrexcuses didn't fuq up Duke's great game vs UVA...SMH.

30CINCO

Love me some Duke Johnson. Don't know if he underperformed or met his high school expectations. He was the best player on the team while he was here, imo. Even so, best year record wise, we were 9-4. Note, we went 2-4 while he was out that year.

WWIN

Posted by: UMike | May 04, 2017 at 09:51 AM

He's a SMALL back compared to the ones you named... once you move onto college the competition gets bigger and stronger... same for the NFL. Not too many people dominate the same way they did in high school in college.

30CINCO

Don't see why Kaaya continues to get dogged. He carried us to the same 9-4 record.

Go Canes!

Posted by: CaneRock | May 04, 2017 at 11:23 AM

Honest question. Is there a loss in 2016 you can say was because of Kaaya's performance or lack of it?

Some background info on Burns decommitment

Miami Northwestern cornerback Thomas Burns tweeted out his decommitment last night -- and that should not be a surprise if you've been following this recruiting cycle.

Burns, the younger brother of former Cane and current Pittsburgh Steeler Artie Burns, has a standing offer from Miami for a track scholarship. Although he had been "committed" to Miami, the football staff has not been recruiting him for this cycle.

Of note: Artie and Thomas have been aware of the situation with Miami and understood it was in his best interests to look elsewhere if he does decide to play football at the next level. However, if he does decide to stick with primarily track then he could very well end up as a Hurricane. From my understanding, Artie is actually an advocate of Thomas pursuing a track career.

This is exactly what I mean when I say many of our players never played to their true superstar potential.

Cokerization. Shannonization. Goldenization. Shalalaation. Its hard to hit full stride underr leadership like that.

If Duke signed with LSU or FSU instead of us, he would have been a Cook or Fournette type.

But he was a True Cane.

TruCane81

Fournette is a Adrian Peterson style beast man but look at the way his blockers road graded defenses with perfect execution, creating running lanes a mammoth could squeeze through.

TruCane81

Honest question. Is there a loss in 2016 you can say was because of Kaaya's performance or lack of it?

Posted by: Go Canes! | May 04, 2017 at 11:54 AM

Go, everyone knows the answer to this is no.

Kaaya gets flack because he never put the team on his back and caaried them, resulting in close losses that change the complexion of a season.

Rewatching the FSU-UM game on ESPNU and it seems that at times Kaaya rushed his throws or locked into a particular receive. Of course 50/50 is hindsight, but we had no business losing that game or the last three against them.

UMike

I agree Duke definitely played under some poor coaches and was the best player we had. I wasn't trying to knock him at all, Duke is a Cane though and through...I guess for me his hand career was so awesome it seemed he was destined for Heisman talk and 1st round status.

Go Canes!

Posted by: TruCane81 | May 04, 2017 at 01:37 PM

Think the second half of the season he did. Threw for 14 TDs and only one INT during that 5-0 stretch and I thought played the best he ever had here.

First half of the FSU game he was lights out as well.

Second half of the FSU game, UNC and the rest of the season he ranged from bad to good to just ok.

Part of it was the O-line, part was play calling, but he didnt help by taking some brutal sacks, over throwing receivers and playing way too erratically overall in those games.

Can you add the Bears into that? 😂😂😂

Mountain Cane

Any Cane player who graduated in the last 15 years would have been better off playing for the current coaching staff than any other group. Richt was genius for negotiating a DC/OC/asst coach salary scale that enabled him to attract real talent. He wouldn't otherwise be successful.

Everything u say is absolutely correct.

Its all about the ranked opponents for his critics.

His biggest win in the RAB is shyt on cuz he had a slow start. They ignore the 18-19 rampage, which is who he is when properly utilized.

He had opportunity to be a true Cane legend and fell short in some important emotional losses.

Hopefully time will temper emotion about his performance and get his due for what he did for the program.

He could of/should have come back, won the ACC Coastal and his story at Miami would be different.
