Go Canes!

Canes will continue to have a problem because of the limited number of scholarships available in baseball.

It costs a Florida kid far, far less to play for the Gators or Noles than the U. Even if they get stuck paying out of state tuition rates at schools like UNC I'd venture to say it's still costs them the same.

I can also tell you from personal experience they need to change some things recuriting-wise. They were looking on my nephew but didnt follow up as well as they should have in my opinion.

He decided to play somewhere else and is currently crushing it. He's the kind of they should have been all over. He was ready to bypass the draft to be sure he got most of his education done, wanted to stay home, is a leader and can hit the cover off the ball, which is exactly what he's doing at the school he's playing for.

Time for new blood.

If you're going to schedule tough games u better make sure u win 60 to 65 percent of them. Ain't no excuses, either u can it u can't. If they had an NIT in baseball that's where we would be.

BigWindyCane1

Looking at the recruits and transfers coming in, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Canes have a top 10 or top 5 defense this year. In addition, I see them generating more turnovers this year. I don't see many weaknesses on the two-deep chart on the defensive side of the ball. I see this defense as having lots of fun out there wreaking havoc. I see many future NFL picks on that defense

Last 30 years, 97% of ACC baseball and women's soccer teams that went .500 in conference made NCAAs.

We were in the College World Series last year tho...

TheeMackJones

Yes, Miami, Florida was in the CWS last season. However, the Hurricanes HAVEN'T played in the champion game ( series ) since " 2001!! " And that's on good ol' boy Jimbo AND the players!! huh. In other words, SIXTEEN seasons is much too long of a stretch to NOT play in a championship game ( series now. )! And that's WHY it's time for Good Ol' boy Jimbo Morris to retire. duh

By the way, TINY Oregon St. has WON two national championships during Miami's Sargasso doldrums, and the Beavers HAVEN'T been a NATIONAL PLAYER akin to the Hurricanes! huh Heck, tiny Oregon St. has even played in a NC game series, yet lost the series during the 16 season span. duh.

By the way, Corvallis is LITERALLY SMALL TOWN Pax Americana! LOL So to be able to recruit players to come to TINY Corvallis and compete in the NCAA baseball tournament is LITERALLY a post post modern day college sports miracle. huh.

The bottom line: Miami has NO EXCUSE to not win one more NC since 2001, and that's one reason why, among others, why Coach Morris should retire.

And finally, the Hurricanes will most certainly be a TOP TEN defensive unit this season. Bloody well guarantee it! Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just gave Diaz's unit thee proverbial ' kiss of death. ' So what!

Congrats TD. That's a really big deal.

BigWindyCane1

CMR does speak highly of Charlie Ward, as a person and player. Ward was the QB that got FSU over the hump. They beat a very good Nebraska team, and Ward's mobility made a difference. Sine Ward graduated, the NCAA instituted new rules that favored offenses, including a rule permitting offensive linemen downfield, which makes it a lot more difficult for defense to read their keys. Ward would have been the perfect RPO QB.

Many on this blog wanted a coach who employed some of the elements of a more modern spread offense, with read option and RPO. Looks like the Canes will get it this season, regardless of who is the QB - Sherriffs, Rosier or Perry. The new more mobile QB will open up lanes for explosive runs for Walton and Walton can have a 1,400 yard season with a higher per rush average. With this defense, we need a QB that can avoid the turnovers and the Canes will play in a major bowl riding this defense

I understand one cannot drive while impaired...but he pulled over and was sleeping, car not moving.

DallasTX Cane

I think that if you're impaired - beyond just sleeping and behind the wheel it's a problem. Like the open container laws...you don't have to be seen actually drinking, just having the open beer can is a problem. I also heard on talk radio his car was visibly damaged, not sure if true or to what extent, but that implies driving while impaired.

Go Canes!

Anyone who's ever taken meds for pain knows how tricky and volatile they can be, especially when mixed with anti-inflammatories and/or lack of sleep.

Not excusing but there's a big difference in my opinion between that and downing four scotches at dinner then driving home.

Will wait to hear what the final outcome is.

DallasTX Cane

That is excusing, Go. Those type meds clearly & plainly state to to operate machinery, like a car, while using. Do people do anyway, yes of course. But everyone knows U shouldnt. Same as alcohol. Makes me sad to think of how close Tiger was to breaking Jack's record and how far out of reach even playing again seems to be for him now. I'm a huge Tiger fan. Everyone is quick to unload on tiger. Be careful when u throw the word demon around. Cheating and sex is a common male vice and is not worthy of comment. He was on meds for his back. For me, he simply made a mistake. U can talk about him been at fault for been in his car while under the influence. I make an exception that it wasn't alcohol that he was on. The only need for alcohol is for it's entertainment value. The guy took medicine for an ailment that is the sole cause for the destroying his golf carrier.
Tiger is a businessman and a public figure. He probably has more meetings before 12pm than most of us have in a month. Maybe it was a day where he couldn't afford to miss any meeting. And he also had to take his drugs in a timely manner. Maybe both time constraints intersected and he cheated.
Don't make him a villain when he's clearly not one.

I'm hearing that both stocks, bonds, and real estate will be correcting itself fairly soon. The growth is speculative in some metro areas. Miami’s Week 3 game against FSU in Tallahassee on Sept. 16 will be televised nationally by ABC at 8 p.m. This is the Hurricanes’ first ABC prime-time appearance since last year’s game against the Seminoles on Oct. 8, 2016, in Miami Gardens, which has been shown several times on replay at ESPN-U.

I predict that CMR will not fear a night road game, but he, his coaches and players will embrace the world stage. I think Miami can shock the world that night. Another wide right puts Miami on top.

This idea of a correction in stocks and housing has been going around for about a year now and will pick up more steam as the markets an housing prices continue to rise. Historically speaking corrections always happen and usually on a 10 year cycle which we are now approaching. There are always those prognosticators that want to get the correction train rolling and call the correction FIRST and they are all out of the closet already.

Most see another 2-5 years of the up cycle before the correction. If economic conditions improve (read jobs, jobs, jobs and income tax and corporate tax reform occurs) then the up cycle will last longer.

Some areas like the one you mentioned have grown too far too fast with no supports in place to continue to drive the market. However, Central Florida has unique economic drivers like tourism, affordable housing, retirement, relocation and a strong jobs market and favorable income and corporate tax laws that somewhat insulate it from economic downturns.

I like our chances, barring any major wars or unforseen catastrophies, that we will continue in a favorable economic climate for the next 3 years. I even have some REAL cash bets with the negative Nancies out there that we have two more years minimum left.

Ariz

**Although Miami has yet to publicly announce it, CanesInSight has learned that Paradise Camp will be on the weekend of July 21st. Mark Richt debuted the camp last year featuring a number of former Pro Canes in attendance and even coaching the camp. I'm hearing that the list of former pros will be even larger this year, in part because Miami has had them "save the date" for months in advance. CanesInSight will have complete coverage of the event.

**In team-related news, the freshman class of Summer A enrollees has received good early reviews from people within the program. Miami was pleased with the type of shape that they came in with as a whole, as reflected by the fact that everybody passed the initial conditioning test.

An example -- their first week at Miami, cornerback Trajan Bandy and Mike Harley were getting a sand pit workout in at 11 p.m., while still having team workouts at 5:30 a.m. All indications are that this is a tight-knit group.

I tweeted this out last week, but one guy who came in looking physically impressive was Zalon'tae Hillery. When Miami offered him at Paradise Camp last year, he was weighing around 265 pounds. He stepped on the scale at 306 his first week on campus and appears to be carrying the weight well. If he's able to adjust to the speed of the game, Hillery is a candidate to push for some playing time this season and at the least should be a pivotal member of Miami's projected youthful second team offensive line.

This last note is an important one. Kai-Leon Herbert was dealing with a shoulder injury during his senior season and had a minor procedure to fix it in the offseason. American Heritage offensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach Travis Spiva told me in February that Herbert was doing lower body work almost exclusively, and limiting upper body stuff in accordance to the rehab plan. I exchanged messages with Spiva this morning and he had some good news for Canes fans -- Herbert was cleared as a "full go" in the weight room without any limitations just before he left for Miami a couple weeks ago. Spiva added that Herbert is keeping up with his rehab with the UM staff just to strengthen the shoulder, but there is no concern that this is something that will affect him long term. Like Hillery, he will push for playing time.

**An update on some of Miami's remaining receiver targets. I'd expect them to add one more in the class.

Xavier Williams - I would characterize Miami's chances here as 'decent'. That might not be what Canes fans want to hear, but I would say that recent reports of his commitment not being solid to Bama are a bit premature. The Canes are certainly in the game and Coach Dugans continues to plug away, but Miami is not expecting anything imminently with him.

Kevin Austin - Miami continues to keep tabs on Austin and some within the program are really high on his ability, but I wonder how long he is going to wait on the Canes to make him a top priority. With Clemson now in the picture along with other favorites such as Notre Dame and Duke, I'm not sure UM has much of a chance unless they really ratchet up the heat on him

Elijah Moore - I would expect to hear less of Moore's name associated with Miami as the cycle moves forward. As I've said a few times, the staff really think he's a good player, but they believe he is too similar in the mold of guys like Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley, while they've already taken a "smaller" receiver in Mark Pope in this class.

Warren Thompson - The writing is on the wall here and Miami has seen it for some time -- don't expect him in the class.

**You've gotta ride the waves.

One thing about this staff I've learned in the last year -- they are aware of nearly everything when it comes to their targets and commits. If one of their guys was truly shaky in their commitment, they would know. In the cases of Mark Pope and Josh Jobe for example, Miami knows where they stand with them, regardless of what is said on social media. Fans and "recruiting experts" might try and run with every little thing they see, whether it be an edit of another school or a tweet.

There's no denying that Pope's tweet was a peculiar one, but after checking with people close to the situation this is not something to worry about.

Coach Banda forecasted nearly this exact scenario during spring practice (55 second mark of the video below). The coaching staff is prepared for this ride.

**Evidence Njoku told me he is currently weighing 215 pounds. He enrolls at Miami the first week of July.

thirstybuzzardcane

Stock markets going to hit those heights regardless of president. We are sitting now in the second longest bull market in history... the first 5 years of which were during obamas tenure... right after our economic system almost collapsed.

The trump tax cuts proposed are not the tax cuts he promised on the campaign trail. If you want to see what trumps tax cuts will result in simply take a gander at reagans first term. Trump is proposing trickle down economics.

Large tax breaks for the wealthy and big biz never ever ever ever result in more jobs. It does not happen.

Oh and one more thing.... We are nearing statistical full employment. Unemployment is about as low as it will be. Obamas foreign policy was pretty bad. And while their are legitimate gripes in regards to over regulation... his economic policies really can't be argued against.

Blades & Campbell finish off the best DB class maybe ever. I do think we need another DT, the good news is that Nesta is an animal of a prospect so we can afford to take a guy that needs a little polishing, but lets be clear, not a reach. Absolutely we need 2 LBs that can play. Im not concerned at all about the LB spot as there are so many quality 3 star guys and Miami does a great job coaching those guys up. I think the lack of elite commits here, shows our quality on the field. I dont understand not taking Moore because we already have so many like him... uh... IMO, you always take burners, you can never have too many. Pope & Hightower are taller guys anyways. So, to cap it off, if we finish Blades, Campbell, two 3* plus LBs, talented 3* DT or better, Moore if we cant get bigger fish... Thats an elite class worthy of any Hurricanes team ever.

I don't know how good Mayes, Martin or Ford will be but that's about all we would have left. Well they did mopve someone else to DT, that was a DE.

They say Bethel is coming along really well. There is a very, very, very, very small chance we lose all 3. I doubt that it happens to the extreme. But yes, I agree we have got to stack talent there. I think we need a minimum of 2 every year, so when I say 2, Im talking bare minimum to be right and happy. The problem is, that so much of our Miami level talent depth has dropped off over the years, so we are having to spread it out a little bit.

Dude

Basically its the need of addressing DBs that will keep us from taking a bunch of dudes at other spots. Luckily Miami has Coach Kool.

Dude

BTW, Scaife got his 4th star from Rivals and given the state of OL in FL, I think we will end up nabbing 1 more 4 star making it 3 for the cycle. There are a bunch of great OL in FL for 2018.

I wish the U could somehow use the Rock to help us recruit the big Aussie-Samoan kid at IMG w/o violating any NCAA rules.

Campbell, Blades and holding on to our current commits will give the Canes a great DB class. The Canes are building a special class, but performance on the field will determine how the Canes close the 2018 class. The Canes are projected by Bovada to win 9 games. Last season CMR was projected to win 7. I can see the Canes exceeding expectations once again this season to win 10 or more. Anything less will be a disappointment. Having an inexperienced QB is no excuse with this defense, playmakers at RB, TE, WRs, an improved OL and a great coaching staff. The Canes should be favored to win every game, except FSU. This should be a great season for CMR and the Hurricanes football program.

2 years ago Vegas had the over under at 5.5 we covered easily with 8 wins. And last year the over under was 6.5 and once again we easily covered. Now with it at 8.5 or 9 wins this will be a interesting take either we push at 9 or exceed for 3rd straight year and go 10-2. Hopefully we don't pull a 2014 and go under. That would not be good.

Dude

^^^ Do those numbers include bowl games though? The good news is that 9 is probably the floor where a bunch of things dont go our way. We can absorb that if we win a bowl game.

All I want is a) Win the Coastal b) 10 wins c) Win another bowl.

I'll take that for the next 2 years even. Juventus, my favorite soccer team, has taught me patience and to enjoy the journey to conference domination first, then we can start talking about titles.

I will tell you guys this much, the day we win the Coastal, will probably be the start of a string of titles, because once Miami gets on top of a position, they are hard as f*ck to knock off.

Dude

^^^ Coastal titles that is.

The Herb sees no reason why we don't win at least 11 games during the reg. season. With the defense we will put on the field, FSU may be attainable. It makes no difference hells coming for all the ACC to pay. Pay back is going to be a big bad bitch, when we get our talent stacked back up at all positions!

No the Dude it's just the 12 game regular season. Conference Title Games, Bowl/Playoff games are Postseason.
