Go Canes!

So the Democratic party spends $25 million on some meaningless seat in Georgia, lose, and are now spinning it as a positive because they only lost bt 5 points instead of 15-20?

That party is in complete disarray and completely out of touch. They're the poker equivalent of going all in for their tournament lives over and over again with pocket deuces

Bernie, Hillary, Russian collusion and now this latest disaster.

Go Canes!

I stand semi-corrected. Not on my point, which is perfectly highlighted by the tone deaf stupidity of this guy's comments. The amount was actually $40 million spent.

Go Canes!

Raize the arrogance and stupidity of the Democratic Party is staggering. They again poured millions into a certain loser only to have it blow up in their face.

This says it all: Jon Ossoff spent $40,000,000 and got fewer votes than the Democrat challenger in November who spent $1,000. #GA06

Just imagine if The Rock were to run and win the presidency. Then Canespace can be a political blog AND a Canes site!

On a more serious note, can't wait to hear what Perry brings to the table this summer. His development is ultimately the difference between an 11 win and 8 win season. If we do falter due to growing pains with a freshmen QB I hope that everyone here keeps the big picture in mind. If not this year, by 2018 this becomes a very dangerous team, and by 2019 a team that can beat anyone in the country.

Go Canes!

Good talk Russ.

Per Go Canes comment ..."saying something insightful or controversial." I see that PoliticalSpace/ThreatSpace is back again? Yeah, I meant about the Canes so relax.

If anyone has shown they can disagree in a civil manner while being bombarded by crazy shit it's me.

And for the record, with few exceptions the people complaining about content only complain about it without adding anything of value before or after they do it.

But hey, this place can go back to two posts a day until football season.

Enjoy.

Gin & Tonic

Good Luck to Davon Reed tonight, one possible landing spot: Washington.

The Washington Wizards hold the 52nd overall pick in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft.

5 things to know:

*Reed improved as a scorer throughout his four years with the Canes. By his senior year he averaged 14.9 points. His 43.3 field goal percentage wasn't very efficient, but he shot 46.9 percent as a junior and 47 percent as a sophomore.

*He had mixed results at the NBA Combine. He measured in at 6-foot-4 1/2 without shoes, but then recorded a 7-foot wingspan. His 36-inch vertical is pretty average for a shooting guard, but he has the length NBA teams covet.

*Though Reed isn't a high-volume scorer, he does have an outside shot. He made 39.7 percent of his threes on six attempts as a senior. As a sophomore, he shot 45.7 percent on 2.7 attempts per game. NBA teams will take a close look at his mechanics, but it's possible he turns into a three-point threat at the professional level.

*Defense is a strength of Reed's. He was an All-ACC Defensive Team selection in 2017 and averaged 1.3 steals per game as a senior.

*Reed was an accomplished student at Miami. He was on the President's List for having a 4.0 GPA or better in his last semester and made the Dean's List (3.5+ GPA) three times.

Fit with Wizards: The Wizards could use a player like Reed behind Bradley Beal. Reed projects as a 3-and-D shooting guard who could contribute early in his career. The question is how high his ceiling is and how much they value potential based on athleticism. If they did pick Reed, though would pair him with his former college teammate Sheldon Mac.

orange 'n green in the vein

Great news; since Davon Reed lies at 6'4" and 1/2 to be listed as 6'7", I am now proud to be announced from now on as 6'9" by the same standards of measurement.

No wonder James Jones gets that 6'8" program entry in the roster sheet still . . .

CoCane

OGV,

I remember several recruiting services listing Reed as 6'5 coming out of high school. Not surprised he measured 6'4 1/2 with his shoes off.

How does Reed get drafted but McClellan didn't???

BigWindyCane1

NBA teams often draft on potential. Reed is probably the same height as Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Radha Bell and MIchael Jordan. The NBA usually measure players with their shoes on and list them at that height. Reed has long arms, he defends, he is coachable and he is intelligent academic All American. With hard work, he can play in the NBA.

orange 'n green in the vein

smh

Anyway Coke, he's a year younger than Sheldon was on their draft nights and is in the mold of Bruce Bowen, who has his number retired by the modern era stretch four NBA standard bearer franchise as the original 3 and D contributor to title runs, Coke. Add in the academic all ACC basketball IQ and the fact you don't have to run plays for him to have an offensive contribution on a night and you can get over the fake heights.

If I'm choosing my team and I have to choose between those two, I take Davon over Sheldon every night easily.

College Football News Rankings:

11. Miami Hurricanes

Relative Strengths: Mark Richt, Linebacker
Relative Concerns: Expectations, Proven QB
Why Are They Here? Let the hype kick in. Richt is one of the best coaches in the game, and he’s got the defense that could turn into the best in the ACC with a little luck. The offense has upside, but the quarterback play has to rock.
2016 Final Season Ranking: 11 (9-4)
2016 CFN Preseason Ranking: 25

Dude

^^^ Expectations are to play in the ACC CG. I dont think thats too much, with a fantastic D and playmakers all over the offense. It Richt and Searles' job to get that OL ready. Whoever the QB is needs to know he can hand it off for 4 yards whenever and that he's got at least a little time on a 3rd down in the pocket. If the OL cant give that to Perry, then Perry should RS.

CoCane

I like the Bowen comparison for Reed GOV.

TruCane81

We will run like a Richt O this year.

Rpo will get huge gains, zone run or keeper, it wont matter.

All we need is poise at qb and rhythmic, unpredictable playcalling.

That is all. If we get anything similar from Perry like fsu got from Francois, we are an 11 win plus team.

Richt just has to commit to getting the kid comfortable with easy passes.

TruCane81

I know the politics ruffles some feathers but I am thankful for the lack of news.

Between the death penalty talk, arrests, and massive roster churn, our recent summers have been stressful.

Richt has brought stability to this program.

Dude

No sleep at all, I can do this. I can do this.

Go Canes!

This is a great comparison. Give us what Francois did for the Noles last year and we will be fine all next year.

Big difference between them is like Winston before him, Francois had a year to redshirt and get comfortable.

Terrance Sullivan

Winston also redshirted in 2012 while EJ Manuel started for FSU ACC Championship team.

Go Canes!

Exactly TSully. Both those guys had a full year of practice, learn and lift before getting on the field while Perry will likely be thrown into the fire game 3 of his true freshman year.

We've heard the cons, but what are the pros with an early season matchup vs FSU with a rookie QB?

Go Canes!

Posted by: CaneRock | June 24, 2017 at 10:00 PM

I can't think of one.

TruCane81

Could Rosiers accuracy problems be due to the way Richt's passing game is designed?

His offense seems to like long passes to the sideline and deep down the field.

In Rosier's only start, he was alot more accurate than I expected. However the passes he was completing seemed alot different from what Richt demands of a qb.

TruCane81

No game tape CR.

If Perry is shifty and instinctive, we will run all over them.

I just pray the kid has balls of steel.

FSU has been unable to match up with our recievers for years.

We need a coach and qb that make them pay.

Can you say, "Lamar Jackson?" With Manny's stacked defense, I don't think the Canes will need to score 60 like Louisville to win. The Canes might play the whole season and not give up 30 points in any game. And with the playmakers on defense and special teams, the Canes will score on interceptions, fumble returns, punt returns and kick returns. There is no reason that this couldn't be the year for the Canes to end the current FSU streak.

Dude

There's no reason? Sorry but thats insane, there are many reasons why FSU could beat us. Depth at many positions, OL play, inexperience at a few positions including QB & CB and overall talent just to name some.

Dude

I can absolutey see things like Walton not being fast enough to score on a 30 yard run, then the OL not being able to punch it in inside the 5 happening. I can see a freshman QB throwing a couple critical INTs against a secondary unlike anything he's ever seen in his life. I can see last year's underwhelming OL let pressure get in the QBs face time and time again. I can see a couple of new CBs getting mixed up on who's got who on a 2nd down. I can see us holding close in the 3rd, only to get our doors blown off because we dont have the depth to keep our defense fresh after the offense goes 3 and out a few too many times.

Look, we could win against FSU because CF is crazy as f*ck. But as a realist here, we cant EXPECT victory in Tallahassee yet. We should expect to be prepared and play hard. The D should be good and hopefully the offense has a good plan.

Here's the early season back and forth I can hear already. Richt sucks, he's not creative vs. Richt isnt showing his hand before FSU. My hunch is that Richt just isnt up to the job as OC, we will see.

BigWindyCane1

FSU doesn't have Dalvin Cook this season, and the Canes have Mark Walton, more speedy playmakers and an aggressive defense that will be one of the best in the nation. The Canes have a very realistic shot at winning this game in Tallahassee. If they lose, I will still be a Canes fan but when I compare the Canes' roster to FSU's, I feel very good about the Canes' chances to win in Tallahassee.

TonyCane

Yeah, as a realist I can see a 14 - 21 point loss to FSU if Perry starts. Its a road game and their crowd will be amped.

Yes about a "realistic shot" and "feeling very good about our chances to win" but let's not pretend like we got that SWAG back 100% just yet where we go to Tally and expect to STOMP the Noles. #ChildPlease!

Go Canes!

If we're pinning our hopes at FSU this year on Perry being Lamar Jackson, we should in no way be expecting to win.

We've got a chance because of our great defense. Offense does a good job and we'll be in it at the end.

This is the thought that keeps me up at night.

Depth and experience be damned, we have the talent to have a top 3 offense in the ACC.

We need some really good oc work. Pure and simple.

I don't expect to be the 2014 Oregon Ducks, but offensive struggles are unacceptable, even against FSU.

Those clowns have been ripe for a beatdown for years. Coaching is what has let us down in the series. We have had them on the edge of blowouts and let them off the hook with coaching blunders.

We have Miami talent. Get Miami coaching and you see quick turnarounds regardless of the stars the guys on hand had as recruits. We are making the same excuses for the o to struggle that we were gonna make for the d in 2016.

But a funny thing happened. We got a real defensive coordinator and the rest is history.

Richt had the opportunity to hire a Manny Diaz for the offense. He chose to gamble on his rusty
Playcalling.

Richt owns the performance of the O, no excuses. Get the ball to our speed guys and ATTACK THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD, we go to the ACC championship UNDEFEATED.

This is what a dark horse national title team looks like. We just need really good to great coaching and gameplannig.

patrick
