Go Canes!

Bono may not be the God, but he is a God.

Fourth time I have seen them over 30+ years and they have never been better than tonight at The Rock.

Terrance Sullivan

Outstanding Go Canes! How was the Crowd and how are the finishing renovations are going at the Rock!

Dude

When Miami is Miami, the ACC Coastal is about as a cake walk as it gets in sports. Only VT should challenge and only once ever so often. If Richt can keep this up for 3 years, Miami will be back.

BigWindyCane1

CMR has the Canes in a strong position to reach their first ACC championship game. The Canes are very strong across the board. Although the Canes will break in a new QB, so will UNC, VT and several other ACC coastal teams. The Canes will be favored in every game, except FSU. This should be the best year the Canes have had since Butch and Coker. The successful year on the field will also help recruiting

Fake 5th?

raizecane

Top 10 !!!

Go Canes!

Glad we stopped talking politics. It so got in the way of all this awesome Canes talk.

Terrance Sullivan

5 issues that will determine our Canes Season: 1. Offensive Line Play and Depth. 2.Defensive line play and depth. 3. Quarterback play and depth(we can't afford a turnover machine at this position, protect the pig skin) 4. Running back depth. 5. Special Teams play.

NativeCane

32 years ago today...The Happiest Team in America...the 1985 Miami Hurricanes, won the Canes Second National Championship for Coach Ron Fraser !

Dem Canes!!!

Terrance Sullivan

Yes Sir Native!

Terrance Sullivan

It royally sucks that our Canes got screwed and left out of NCAA baseball tournament.

Terrance Sullivan

BTW the Notre Dame weekend our Basketball team has a game on Friday and Sunday. With the Game Sunday being against Navy. I plan on making that a Canes Double Play that weekend. One Game at the Rock the other game at the Wat!

CaneWarrior

TS,
Agree wholeheartedly with #1 & 3 and hope #4 does not come into play.
Glad we have taken a break from the politics - hope it's permanent!

Barry:

•A couple of UM recruiting notes if you missed it last week: Three-star safety Randy Russell de-committed, but UM is still loaded with more highly-rated defensive back commitments for 2018: Gilbert Frierson, Josh Jobe, Gurvan Hall and D.J. Ivey. The first three are four-star recruits, the last one a three-star. And Bennie Blades has told me there’s a 90-percent chance that four-star prospect Al Blades Jr., his nephew, will end up at UM. Also, Miami is pursuing others, including five-star Plantation American Heritage cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., rated by Rivals as the second-best prospect, period, for the 2018 class.....

Four-star Ft. Myers-based Class of 2019 four-star defensive end Derrick Henry orally commited to UM.

• As Mark Richt told several other reporters today, there is nothing imminent with regard to UM adding a grad transfer at running back. Trayone Gray and Robert Burns should be cleared for contact by the opening of practice Aug. 1. ... Offensive tackle Sunny Odogwu, who left UM to seek more playing time, is transferring to UCLA

• UM coach Jim Larranaga, on 6-5 guard Miles Wilson – who is transferring to UM from Mt. St. Mary’s: “Miles comes to the U after a very successful year at Mount St. Mary's, where he helped them reach the NCAA Tournament. Miles has the size, length and athletic ability to be an outstanding defender; in addition, he has the shooting and ball handling skills to be a real threat at the offensive end.

“We love that Miles played for Pat Clatchy at Mount St. Joseph's high school in Baltimore, Md., on of the best programs in the country and in one of the toughest high school basketball leagues. He will redshirt this year, which will allow him to make the adjustment to our program and the jump to the ACC level.”

Wilson, who must sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules, averaged 11.8 points and shot 45.4 percent from the field in his one season at Mt. St. Mary’s.

• Twenty five teams have asked for workouts with UM forward Davon Reed, and he has agreed to do 15, including two with Indiana. He could be a late second-round pick or go undrafted. The Heat has studied him.

CaneRock

Reed's stock has really taken off, good for Him.

CaneRock

And all this time I thought Blades was a commit.

Terrance Sullivan

CR I hope my Lakers take Davon with the 28th pick. Blades was a commit he de committed. Hopefully he commits again.

Great defense wins Championships, bad defense loses it. IDGAD what era we're win, giving up an average of 121.6 PPG is pathetic.

If I were hired to professionally consult on NBA draft picks (or any draft in any sport) I think a deep, thorough and scientific analysis of these picks (or other major flops/failures) should be conducted to prevent or limit making these same mistakes again. Has it been done?

BigWindyCane1

Happy for Devon Reed. Reed is intelligent, smart and coachable. Reed is athletic, and he has length, agility and speed to play in the NBA. If he can improve his shot to knock down that 3 consistently, he will play solid minutes in the NBA

CaneRock

And Go Canes, IIRC, GSW had the #2 D in the league.

Great stuff Fellas keep it going.

BigWindyCane1

It is good to see that even with the loss of Sunny Ogudo to UCLA, the Canes have the most experienced OL in the ACC. That should hopefully help win some close games. The Canes are certainly more talented on the OL than they have been in the recent past. Just a little concerned about depth at RB, and now TE. Hopefully, Burns and Choc will stay healthy and flash some of that raw talent they had coming out of high school.

I feel very good about the defense in terms of depth, talent and scheme. If they avoid injuries, the defense can be among the best in the country.

CaneRock

10-11 win D.

O?...Richt has His work cut out for em', IDGAD how talented Perry is. No proven depth at RB, & Searles needs to tighten up.

But put it all together, I think we eek out 10 wins including the bowl.

Choc could be the key to an exceptional season, of course I'm not fooling myself either. Kid has the injury bug in a bad way and hasnt contributed a blip. If we see against FSU that theres a 2 headed monster, we could be in for a treat, that said, I think CR has it in the money.

If true, laying a few stacks on Floyd. Hate the guy, but Connor would get killed, imo.

Adam Hill @AdamHillLVRJ
BREAKING: Sources tell the Review-Journal announcement of a mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather & Conor McGregor could come as soon as today

CaneRock

All the young guns who've put in the work for a shot at Floyd, and He gives it to an MMA guy who has no shot...boxing's a fuqin joke.

Terrance Sullivan

Canes Fest will be at the Rock on Saturday August 12th from High Noon until 4pm.

NativeCane

The shooter looks like Harley Race......

Rasslin' is Real!!!

Dem Canes!!!

Dude

I would never give McGregor a chance against Floyd because that would be disrespectful to the sport of boxing. That said, he has a far, far, far better chance than Floyd would have if this were MMA. McGregor is bigger and younger, has a 2 inch reach advantage and his left hand is death. Floyd can not take him lightly because McGregor will probably try exotic angles to land that left. You can b*tch about who deserved the fight more but you'd be wrong, this isnt the NFL or MLB this is fighting and the fight goes to who gets the most $$$. No matter what happens in this fight, almost everyone will watch, thats why theyre gonna fight.

fran

Carl Chester so far is the only Cane drafted in the 12 th round.

CaneRock

Sorry Dude, McGregor doesn't deserve a shot over the likes of Golovkin,Ward, or even the young gun Crawford. And IMHO, Floyd's style is more street fighting than boxing, so I don't think those exotic angles by CM will faze em'.

Alex D

Dude

Posted by: CaneRock | June 14, 2017 at 09:58 PM

Here's why you're wrong. This isnt a case of a conference or an association or league. Boxing, this fight, is an entertainment event. Its the biggest show on Earth. If Floyd or McGregor stayed in their lanes neither would probably even be fighting. This is a show and blockbuster movies have blockbuster actors, two biggest names, they earned it based on dominating their respective sports. This is all about money, not belts.

Posted by: SOUP | June 14, 2017 at 11:47 PM

A tip of the hat sir.

Dude

Posted by: Old Skool | June 14, 2017 at 01:17 PM

They should absolutely have both! Women's soccer is pretty freaking good in the US. I imagine Miami could break the mold.

Old Skool

I don't know the numbers at the U, but Title IX requires equal opportunity for both sexes for athletics, scholarships and facilities. Programs with a football team are automatically skewed toward male participation so they make up with a lot of women's teams that don't have male equivalents. Also, the U is space starved and soccer fields eat up a lot of room.

Terrance Sullivan

Miami needs to revive it's Softball program. And counter balance it by reviving Men's Golf and Men's Soccer. That should balance everything out and with ACC Network Coming in the 2019-20 season. That would be perfect. Go Canes!

Go Canes!

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | June 15, 2017 at 07:01 AM

Would be nice but imo they are sinking every extra dollar into the cash cows, football and men's basketball.

I cant see them brining on additional sports that do nothing but drain money from the arms race they are currently invovled in, especially when we are beginning to hear grumblings about how these current TV deals arent as profitable as expected.

CaneRock

Agree with you on softball Terrance, though IDK if softball is like baseball where they don't fully fund the schollies. I'd also like to see UM add wrestling, wrestling is big in Florida...especially SoFlo, they dominate at the State Tourney.

Terrance Sullivan

Posted by: Go Canes! | June 15, 2017 at 11:38 AM

My son told me College wrestling teams carry 12, which I assume is a lil' less than what softball carries. My son also told me wrestling schollies aren't fully funded, they have to split 6 schollies amongst 12 wrestlers, unless you're real good then you get a full scholly...weird.

UMike

If Connor can manage to connect he can end that fight quick, but that is a huge IF. I see Money winning, but there certainly is a "punchers chance" for Connor. But how many rounds can Connor actually go? Should be an interesting event.

Go Canes!

Posted by: CaneRock | June 15, 2017 at 11:55 AM

Sounds like it's the same as baseball, 11 1/2 rides for 25 players. More than anything, this is hurting our program the most.

The U is expensive as hell, especially when compared to the Turds and Noles.

CaneRock

I've always thought a real good counter puncher would give Mayweather trouble. Thing is, you gotta bait em' to throw the punch you want to counter. Saw this in His 2nd fight vs Maidana, if it wasn't for the bell, Floyd was in trouble:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MaY09p-qWI

CaneRock

But you gotta be reeeeeeeal good to pull that off, Mayweather's probably the best defensive fighter ever. Chess, not checkers.

UMike

CR...thats what I mean. His defense is perhaps the greatest ever so its a big IF, but at this stage in his career someone with Connors speed and power may have a chance.
