Mark from Atlanta

Canes brothers good Fri to all!
I'm hoping big things for Mark Walton this year and the Canes!
Solid OL play & this team competes with anyone.

God bless you and Go Canes! ! !
Paradise camp this weekend. ..let's hope the recruits digest the opportunity in front of them.

I doubt it as well. Cavs have animosity with the Heat. They would either require a Ted Stepien type deal (the Heat's first rounder every other year for the next decade), plus Whiteside and Drajic, or just say no to the Heat.

Cleveland will likely ignore his request. Too much is at stake this year.

thirstybuzzardcane

If a deal is done with the Heat, there is no doubt the Cavs will want Whiteside. The Heat won't give up him. Cleveland probably gets better with Whiteside, but gets worse with Drajic.

LOL...Whiteside's the beneficiary of the sorriest post play in the history of the game.

LOL, Olajuwon would've averaged 80 His @$$.

And I think He's at His peak offensively...even if Riley doesn't move em' for Irving, wouldn't be surprised if Riley does move em' if something else comes up...ESPECIALLY if this Adebayo kid shows more promise beyond Summer League.

Go Canes!

If the Heat only had to give up Whteside to get Kyrie Riley would personally deliver the trade papers himself and refuse to leave Cavs headquarters until they signed them.

A top three must keep of this class:

Ariz-Will Mallory is the total package at tight end. Day 1 impact player at Miami

VA Cane

Good morning all hope you are well Smoking hot here in VA...about 92 but heat index at 100 already. Perfect weather to get out in and throw it around. I am doing well; feel great can mow be in heat no problem. The leg is a little swollen around the ankle but I move well and its stronger each day.

I have given up the coaching this year, focus on working on some of my rough spots be a better person. I have a 6 month old granddaughter that needs attention so that is my player for now. I will get back in it. Its been a little shocking to my kids and school, but they are in good hands I left them with athletes and great coaches. They plan on keeping on what we have done so it will be fine. I will go to games, but not sidelines. I am now officially after 39 years of coaching, a fan!!! Hard for me to say that; part of the work I need to do!

I will be pulling hard for our boys at the U and Oakland....canes look good from my sources. I think the line and the QB are are areas to be aware of and Mr Walton, a winner needs some backup. Hopefully TH will be there to help. I am optimistic for our guys....Cant wait!!!!

I can focus on the Canes more as i am off the sidelines this year. Should be great. Hope you all are well and excited. soup out in Seattle to learn to tackle....hey he can start in the secondary...be the big hitter like Cam and Earl!!!!
Take care talk soon!

The Dude, reading that makes my stomach churn. Out here where I live, we have been told repeatedly by parents that you have to play middle and high school football if you want to play basketball. My son loves basketball - he shouldnt have to play football. Especially with this type of news.

Go Canes!

The "They knew what they were getting into" argument is ridiculous.

CTE and other brain abnormalities are a relatively new phenomenon. When I was growing up you'd hear about gnarled fingers and a guy have eight knee surgeries, not a guy getting ALS, Parkinsons or losing his memory.

Said it on here before, the NFL as we know it is on borrowed time. I guess the good thing is decades ago people loved it for huge hits, now the youngest generation loves it for fantasy points.

It wil continue to evolve into a minimal contact game as time goes on. It's probably necessary when you see the long term damage its done and is doing to the players.

Think by the time it's over it will look a lot like the ones high school kids are wearing at these camps.

Know the NFL is rolling in money but it can end up collapsing under the weight of it's medical expenses if it doesnt start slowing down the staggering number of brain injuries that are coming out.

CaneRock

While I think CTE is real, I think it's overblown as far is football concerned. Can't convince me that football is more dangerous than other combat sports like MMA & boxing. How many "punch drunk" football players have you seen?...I rest my case.

There aren't a lot of 275 men running full speed into your head in those other sports.

Regardless, there a probably a thousand more kids and young adults playing football than those other two sports combined.

Even if they're equally as dangerous, the numbers are night and day.

Go Canes!

A thousand times/\/\/\

CaneRock

There aren't a lot of 275LB men running into people's heads in football either. No way in hell is a "ground & pound" in MMA, less dangerous than a textbook tackle in football. In the former the impact of the blow is more evenly distributed throughout the body, while in the latter the blow is more concentrated to the head...especially with the way they SHOULD be teaching hitting in football today.

CaneRock

For $1M, would y'all rather take 3 punches to the head by George Foreman?...or would y'all rather get tackled 3 times by George Foreman?

CaneRock

And as far as kids are concerned, if the coaching is competent, Youth Football is just as safe as the other youth sports out there. Sad that this CTE scare has negatively effected football sign-up numbers in some States.

The Dude

Posted by: CaneRock | July 26, 2017 at 12:39 PM

The correct comparison is 3 punches in the head by George Foreman, or 3 head on collisions with Ray Lewis.

Go Canes!

Posted by: CaneRock | July 26, 2017 at 12:23 PM

Running backs and both sides of the line take brutal head contact every game. It's not just when you're tackling or being tackled. Not to mention how the brain gets scrambled when your head hits the turf or your neck gets snapped back.

On the head collisions front ... Which is worse, 3 head collisions from Ray Lewis or 3 head collisions from Earl Campbell.

Speaking of Earl
Here's how ESPN described him in 2009

He shuffles slowly, with a cane. When the walk is too long, he'll accept a wheelchair. Stairs are all but impossible. His back, the focus of an 11-hour operation six months ago, is tender. His ankles and knees are swollen. His hands are a heap of arthritic rubble. His shoulders ache. His speech is measured and, sometimes, slightly slurred. He takes Xanax daily to keep his anxiety attacks under control.

To be honest, he looks old enough to be the father of those men who were his peers on the gridiron.

Posted by: CaneRock | July 26, 2017 at 10:39 AM

It's not more dangerous, just a matter of how many blows to the head u take. A lineman takes hundreds a week, a boxer fights twice a year. Soccer is also supposed to be dangerous.

CaneRock

I've seen too many "punch drunk" boxers to say that football is more dangerous. And I'm not buying the crap that CTE causes suicide. I think if you look deeper into the lives of the players that took their lives, you'll more than likely see a history of mental health issues.

CaneRock

And let's call it what it is, BRAIN DAMAGE. CTE is just a less severe form of brain damage than what boxers & MMAers suffer from.
