His Royal Dudeness

Well that wraps it up then...

Hand shake for you, hand shake for you...

A tip of the hat and lets close some business tomorrow.

Holy f*ck this class is loaded.

Still need another DT and I would pursue the elite kids (Campbell, Chatfield & Surtain, Samuel) until they sign.

Go Canes!!!

Soup I wonder how many yards we lost with Beagles poor punting avg. verses punting avg. On a national level?

Posted by: NativeCane | December 20, 2017 at 11:30 AM

Looked it up, the total just said sh*t load.

Not sure how that breaks down per game.

His Royal Dudeness

I still dont see Hall though fellas.

Lol.

I see it now. Gurvan Hall is in!!!

Hall signed^^

His Royal Dudeness

Reed tomorrow will make it 19/20 with only Nesta left. Hopefully he's bringing a couple of teammates with him. If we close this thing with what we already have, its a top class, add in Campbell, Chatfield and another OL like Barnes, and its the number 1 class. There are no reaches signed or committed.

Hetbieibis

We don't have them until they sign. Will have to waste time on Silvera while the vultures will be circling. If he signs early it frees us of the worry of him jumping ship.

His Royal Dudeness

Hall just announced by Miami. 19/19 as expected. Tomorrow makes 20/20.

Nesta has been 1 of the strongest guys in the class. I think it actually speaks to his character that he wants to sign with his state champion team. He's gonna be recruiting 4* Chatfield, 5* Campbell and 5* Surtain very hard.

Go Canes!!!

Meanwhile the Taggart era is a raging dumpster fire so far. No cristobal, no leavitt, no decommits returning and this guy bailing:

BREAKING: Deerfield Beach All-American linebacker Rosendo Louis flips. He signs with South Carolina instead of FSU.

More
Here's the signing list by star ranking

5-star: (1) Lingard

4-star: (12) Williams, Davis, Pope (should be 5-star), Hightower, Wiggins, Jordan, Mallory, Scaife, Blades Jr., Ivey, Frierson, Hall

3-star: (5) George, Baxa, Joyner, Campbell, Rousseau

--------------------------------------

3 of our 3*'s are a kicker, FB, and project DE/LB hybrid (Rosseau)

Sarasota 'cane

The FB is "Best in Country" at his position so the 3* is a little misleading. I'm super stoked about having a FB for 3rd and short, 3rd and goal situations.

Go 'canes!!

His Royal Dudeness

According to Rivals, Rosseau & Campbell are 4 stars & Pope is a 5 star.

His Royal Dudeness

I think our 5 stars should be Lingard, Pope & Jordan.

Go Canes!!

Agree 100%

Sarasota 'cane

This is Christmas come early!! UM's early signing class is easily Top 10, heading for Top 3-4 in February.

Go 'canes!!

86Cane

Canes are ranked #5 right now. Gators #25. FSU #36.

Ohio_Cane

FSU is a disaster and it's glorious. Wait until we flip Asante Samuel Jr from them lol

Terrance Sullivan

Love it when U sign at least 80% of your total class before U play your bowl game equals winning!

86Cane

Clemson is still KILLING it. #9

Go Canes!!!

It does seem pretty inevitable at this point.

Hope it happens!

Christy Chirinos‏

When asked about whether there were surprises today, Richt jokes he was surprised "that it went so smoothly."

Go Canes!!!

Still don’t think we hit 85 if we sign 27.

Ariz: Mark Richt says Miami’s 2018 class could finish with anywhere between 24-27 signees after the February signing period.

His Royal Dudeness

Here's my wish list

**** OL Cleveland Reed (Miami)
Crystal Ball: Miami
**** OL William Barnes (Undecided)
Crystal Ball: Florida
**** DT Nesta Silvera (Miami)
Crystal Ball: Miami
**** DT Dennis Briggs (Undecided)
Crystal Ball: Miami
**** DE Andrew Chatfield (Undecided)
Crystal Ball: Miami
**** CB Asante Samuel Jr. (FSU)
Crystal Ball: FSU
***** CB Tyson Campbell (Undecided)
Crystal Ball: Miami
***** FS Patrick Surtain Jr. (Undecided)
Crystal Ball: LSU

If we just get the Miami Crystal Ball players, its a stacked, stacked class.

His Royal Dudeness

Chatfield, Campbell & Briggs to close!!!

A Bowl victory is more important than Perry's redshirt so if Nosier is still struggling bring in Perry

Could NOT disagree MORE with this statement...

SinisterCane

Posted by: roachcane77 | December 20, 2017 at 06:09 PM

If Perry is already taking Evan's reps then he's your backup and to be real this bowl game really could be a prequel to Spring JMO

Go Canes!!!

Posted by: SinisterCane | December 20, 2017 at 06:36 PM

I honestly have a hard time understanding how you believe this is better for anyone involved.

SinisterCane

Posted by: Go Canes!!! | December 20, 2017 at 06:51 PM

Nobody want to end the season on a 3 game skid. We're playing the big Boyz on the National stage and if Nosier ain't getting getting it done then what?????? Keep him in or bring in worthless Evans. we play LSU to open the season and if Perry is the future then the future better gets some reps Dec 30

SinisterCane

1 more thing about redshirts... Perry Balls out of controls do really think he's trying for for 4 yrs?

Go Canes!!!

Yes you leave him in or bring in a worthless Evan Sherriffs. Perry isn’t going to come in and save the day.

P.S. Brad Kaaya called and asked if you miss him yet.

You make a good point here SinisterCane. In today's "atmosphere," he may not be around 4 more years...

STILL, I don't feel it's a "good" move. If he's sitting at #3 right now, by the time he got INTO the bowl game, it would probably mean burning a Redshirt for one quarter of play? Hopefully, it's a moot point and we blow out Wisky like we did VA Tech and Notre Dame!

Rex Grossman???? but really I rather have Perry under center for a few snaps.

I got really high and then asked myself, "what if Rex Grossman did come back and QB the Canes against Wisconsin?"

He's 37 and hasnt played on a team since Sept. 4, 2015. How do you guys think he'd do?

SinisterCane

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | December 20, 2017 at 10:22 PM

You know I was joking anyway whats your drug of choice tonight?

Malik Rosier

1 more thing about redshirts... Perry Balls out of controls do really think he's trying for for 4 yrs?

Your right he only plays two seasons. Whether it's redshirt freshmen r.soph or
soph and junior

Malik Rosier

Plus I'm getting benched halfway through LSU

Nkosi?

Honestly these 2 QBs are just different sides of the same coin. Brads all Hurricane and ya gotta love the guy, but he is a jag. He had some great games. So did Malik.

1mg of Epi

This early signing is period is brutal for teams w recent coaching changes. UF and Especially FSU are hurting bad. It's gonna take FSU years to recover.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | December 21, 2017 at 04:20 AM

So in other words you'd prefer Kaaya to line up December 30th.

Go Canes!!

And saying burn Perry's redshirt cause he's only going to be here three years is up there with predicting Rosier and Allison coutld easily make every throw Kaaya did.

One's gone, the other one has fallen into the abyss.

We have no idea how he's going to play. Burning a potential senior season for him to take his first snap ever in a bowl game is such a preposterous idea, I can't believe it's being discussed.

Terrance Sullivan

Burning Perry Redshirt would be just as idiotic when Coach Shannon burned Stephen Morris Redshirt in 2010 against Virginia when Jacory Harris was concussed. We could of had Stephen Morris play his Redshirt Senior Year. In 2014 instead of playing a 18 year old Brad Kaaya to early. And Brad Kaaya could of Red Shirted in 2014. Coach Richt isn't a 2 moonlighting as a 1 aka Coach Shannon and Coach Golden.

That's tough. On their best days I'd take rosier. On their worst I'd take Kaaya.

Go Canes!!!

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | December 21, 2017 at 07:21 AM

Fair enough.

At their passing best Kaaya is a no brainer. When Malik can throw and uses his legs to me that tips it in his favor.

Anything average or their worst is a landslide for Kaaya in my opinion.

1mg of Epi

^^ exactly. Rosiers legs have really helped this o this year. Kaaya was prettt damn good the end of last year.

TonyCane

Agreed, 1m. Imagine if there had been an early signing period in Dec 2010...we only had two recruits committed after Shannon was released. Golden would have had an even more limited pool to try to salvage the class from once he started.

That said, this is what a school risks happening when a coach leaves. Sometimes they are lucky and the class does not disapate..like with us in 2015. And sometimes things fall apart, like us in 2010 or FSU now. The Seminoles have never had to go through this before.

Looking at ESPN, you would think that the only teams that did anything were Georgia and Clemson. Apparently the running back they signed is better than Jim BRown and is nicknamed Zeus (perhaps his parents were fans of the movie No Holds Barred). Meanwhile Clemson's quarterback is apparently so good that Clemson will be in the playoffs indefinitely.

No mention of Miami or Texas anywhere in the article. But Ole Miss gets some love, despite their sanctions, for signing four ESPN 300 players. Sigh.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 21, 2017 at 06:26 AM

Sigh

We play the games to WIN...If Rosier continues to regress and Evans continued to stink up the joint You rather have Perry sit even if he gives us a chance to win just to save his 4th yr. which is no promise that he'll here anyway.

At 1 point Coker was quoted "I should burned Frank Gore's red shirt when Willis Mcgahee went down"

BigWindyCane1

Coker is basically saying Gore (who hadn’t played a down his sophomore season) could have come off the bench and scored a TD because Payton and DORSEY couldn’t? If Gore was really healthy, he should have been playing all along. It’s unfair to put him in during that situation. I am not sure Gore was capable of playing his sophomore year after blowing out his knee, but there is another side to that coin.

Shannon threw away Stephen Morris’s redshirt when Jacory Harris got injured in the middle of the season, and Shannon was criticized for years, even after Golden took over.

CMR will not burn Perry’s redshirt.

SinisterCane

CMR will not burn Perry’s redshirt.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | December 21, 2017 at 09:29 AM

If Rosier is playing like he did vs PITT and Clemson you rather for Rosier to stay in the game and lose to Wisconsin just to save Perry's 4th yr???

And how do you know CMR will not play Perry when he's already taken most of the back-up QB reps

NEW BLOG IS UP!

Mephistopheles

Recruiting clearly matters, but the coaching staff has a greater impact in college ball, than pro ball. You clearly need good players, AND good coaches to succeed.

Maybe the biggest advantage to solid recruiting is how it affects practice. Butch's practices were violent, and game-like. 1's on the 1's, stars against stars. Remember it was Sean Taylor that took out Frank Gore. (I'm just sayin')

If you're on the OL, you get better facing one 4 star DL after the other in practice. That's what makes you better. Brett Romberg and the boys prepared against a legion of fast, nasty DL's and it showed on game day. We need our practices to be the biggest challenge these players face each week.

Ultimately this team goes as far as its signal caller takes them. After that, its the line of scrimmage, then the secondary. We added a very nice QB, and 3 solid OL. That's the good.

Miami missed on a lot of local DL this time. That's the bad. Even if the DL commit holds true, this team needs the two fence sitting DL to stay. Not sure if there's any chance of that, but even one of them staying on would be huge.

Having said that, the D looks OK, and the additional depth in the secondary is important these days where nickel practically becoming the base D. That's also good. I also like the size-all of them 6 ft or taller. Modern offense uses a lot of blocking on the perimeter, so having more physical DB's is an advantage.

Hopefully somewhere in this crop we picked up a kick return threat that has also been a staple on good Miami teams. That was a glaring absense this year. Maybe the Wiggins kid, who seems like a vastly under-rated player, can be that guy.

Overall, today is the continuation of a very good (not great) season considering the trajectory of the program. It really does remind me of the excitement I had in 1999/2000. Unfortunately Butch is on the wrong side of town this time.
