If at the beginning of the season, someone asked me how I feel about going 10-2, winning the Coastal and playing in the Orange Bowl after losing your best offensive player, Walton, for the season and playing without a healthy Richards, your second best player, and losing Herndon, your third best player, in the final regular season game? I would say that if that were possible, our coaches and players did a heck of a job. Throw in a QB that has the lowest completion percentage in the ACC and tied for the ACC lead in Interceptions thrown, I would be ecstatic !

So we made a Turnover Chain at my house, out of glittery foam sheets. And I'll tell you motivates my daughter to do her chores, lol.

Then we sing the sing...

You see little girls clean their rooms?
She get that Turnover Chain!

I'm telling you she loves it.

Now I just need to train my wife with it for when she gets me beers, hahahahahaha!

I remember my wife asking me if we were gonna kick the FG to tie vs FSU...I said nahhhh, we got "No Fear" Rosier, Richt's going for the win...TD!!!

It's ok to bitch about in game decisions but to question Richt at this point makes u look like a spoiled 12 year old girl.

Signs of Distress

1. Get rid of Manny....really...and bring back No D Pa, Onionhead....for what...they were not the answer.
2. Switch to a pure spread....really....Chip and Mark ran up and down the field never won a title...while it is good to implement some spread and RO...(and other forms of O...I do it all the time)...it is not the answer for a full time offense. A reach...QB cannot take those hits so often.
3. Every play is either us getting cheated or a penalty or refs against us. If you really believe that then you should take up marbles or tiddlywinks. There are penalties on every play; some you get others you don't. While I agree with the lack of holding calls...please stop crying every play
4.We had the most TOs in football...but 72 points scored of of not good. I like TOs....like Clemson says we give high fives and get on with it. The chain is a nice gimmick. Nice this year...but throw that piece of tin in the damn bay....and lets start playing football cause we love it more than life.

VA Cane

Biggest disappointment kicking a field goal against their 3rd team...really...you cannot get a foot....38 - 3 is bad....but at least you went for 7 that is the sign of a scared person....a...well...can you say coward...you go for it like a man!

There IT is right there.

Herbieib

Look, Richt is doing a good job. Got to get his players in place. This incoming class is a step in the right direction. It's loaded with the 3 areas that we have no depth: db's, te's, and rb's. These incoming guys represent a tremendous up grade. If we don't get Fields, then we most likely won't get a qb unless someone transfers in. We need an added up grade in depth of talent at lb, as well. I first thought that McIntosh and Norton would leave but the last 2 games neither one played outstanding. We need a sack master at DE, which we don't have.
WE NEED A DAM PUNTER! Feagles so pathetic, they went to shanking Jack Spicer, one half of the shank brothers.
Clemson has gotten over the hump of losing the big games. They now know how to win them. They weren't all that special last night, except they slanted us to death. An Average throwing Kelly Bryant was only 23-29. Manny choked last night and we blew to easy fumble recoveries that they ended scoring TD's. We miss a wide open Thomas and miss a FG. Maybe things would of been different.
We don't need 9 different WR's catching passes, we need 2 or 3 go to guys that are dependable. We need a bigger back and why do we need a fullback, when they rarely ever use one.
Rosier, did the best he could and in all reality should be playing for a team like Texas El Paso or some Mid-American team. He wasn't no outstanding passer in high school.
Richt has to cough up th OC job but maybe he thinks he is doing the U a favor by not having to pay for another coach. Do most teams have a CB coach and also a Safeties coach? We need fresh ideas. Clemson's offense wasn't that complicated but they, unlike us, found ways to move the ball. It's not dam science-fiction. Halftime we had 40 yards or so of total offense. Look Clemson is good but I wouldn't call them a great defense!
We will be alright, once we get the depth and once we learn how to win the big games. The Orange bowl will be the start for next year then LSU!

CoCane

I can't disrespect and discredit the TE, WR and RB for making game winning plays by praising Rosier. Rosier gave inferior opponents hope to beat us with his inaccuracy. He is trash, garbage, Basura etc...

Kaaya wasn't the 2nd coming of Marino but if you give him the throws that Rosier missed all year. Kaaya completes AT LEAST 50% of them. He would've taken more sacks but would've converted more of those easy 3rd down throws to keep drives alive.

I'll take a accurate passer that can't run over a INACCURATE passer that can run anyday...

Spoke to Clelin Ferrell today; he played for me 3 seasons. Had nice things to say about UM...said OL was nice guys. He said they were slow at times, and seemed as if they did not understand the different sets and pressures Clemson used.
The old saying is this; nice guys finish last...Leo Durocher.
We had a damn good season much better than we thought would be.

The OL is so up and down...great vs VT ND...then poor. Got to get stronger faster leaner...and pick the feet up.
QB took us as far as he could. Nice kid got to say...but nice dont win. Reads, understanding of attack offense, accuracy, mechanics...all a lot to be desired. I cannot say he was good, but he did not quit.
Kicking...PK was good all year..gotta replace Badge....Feagles really regressed; very important position.
RB...not bad considering the OL. Homer did a good job, DJ looked like a bright spot.
WR Berrios gave his all, Richards, Langham Herndon...good players Cager was a letdown but will get better.
Walton Richards Herndon injuries hurt us bad..but no excuse.
D was good most of year....looked tired grabby in last 2 games good year great with TOs!!
Play calling is pedestrian...very poor. bubble screens and such...does not work. The run with that OL does not work. CMR is a great guy...a little too mellow for me. Thats why I agree with Dude...open it up....use some spread and option but still have a pros set power game. Our formations are so tight. At this time i think he can get us back to near the top....but so mellow and laid back....no fire in the gut no anger no passion that i think you got to have to dominate...he does not know hit hate hurt.

Damn damn good year....Clemson knew it was a rout...they have been there....conference playoffs...titles...they smoked our ass as I kinda thought they might.
We got to improve in all areas....in skills, fundamentals, execution depth strength quickness....coaches especially OC QB OL got to get it going.

I also think we must get tougher stronger work on playing in pain and endurance...weightroom, diet....and a mental toughness that does not quit!!!
Still a damn great exciting season.
If you like the chain thats cool....just not my approach to coaching...but whatever it takes to win I can tolerate its just not my way....dont take it so personal...just cause it is not me does not make it wrong.....Just Win Baby!

Don't fret my family I always put you first so waited til today to tell you....you did win a title yesterday.....my first year with PG County...I do the OL and D...yea me and Manny....we won the Super Bowl again....it was warm, but misting rain....we won 17 - 0 in the rain...vs....a spread team from North Chester.....we ground out 167 yards on the ground...about 89 via short passing...all that could be done....
Still I am proud of my charges....8th SB in 10 years.....think I have a new coaching home with new outlet on life....I was able to have my wife there to see it...she is fighting every day but thats the key...FIGHTING

and we will continue to fight as UM....we will get there people...we had a great year and still another game....

OK, QUICK: Where is James Coley?

Nobody here knew right? Of course not!

James Coley (born April 14, 1973) is an American football coach. He is the wide receivers coach at the University of Georgia and the former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Miami.

Coley, a Miami native who played quarterback at Miami Senior High School and worked in the National Football League (NFL) as an offensive assistant and quality control coach with the Miami Dolphins, has coached some of the top talent in college football at the high school, college and pro levels.

His coaching resumé includes stops at 2003 National Champion Louisiana State University and 2002 Florida 6A State Champion Miami Norland Senior High School, in addition to his experiences with the Miami Dolphins.

Coley was labelled and considered the ACC top recruiter by ESPN recruiting. Coley is considered to be an ace recruiter in the talent-rich South Florida area. He was also named the top recruiter in the conference.

Before the season predictions (Hope and a Prayer) and during the season realities (after winning 10 straight) are SO VERY DIFFERENT.

We should have beat Pitt to a pulp.

We should have lost to Clemson 34-13.

But we did get exposed as a fraud, so we will take it.

UMike

Yesterday was not a game we should've won. His worth as an OC is fair game to question, but I think we should give him a clean slate before saying what games he will tend to lose.

Great Blog Soup.

T.O. Chain stays, I guess if we lose a couple games you guys want to get rid of the smoke, maybe take the U off the helmet too. Come on the T.O. chain was huge for our season and IS going to be huge in recruiting, which is the lifeblood of a program.

Everything is in front of us, an Orange bowl win will be huge for the program.

I think normally you get a QB with a year of starting under his belt you would play him his RS SR year, but with Rosier this is not the case. I think Kosi has the goods to pass him up this spring or next summer. Kosi has put on 10 lbs this fall, he will get another 10 by the time spring practice rolls around. He will be a different player, much more consistent. He is the hardest worker in the QB room.

We do need depth, we are 2 years away, next year we can make another run but will likely drop a game or two. After that CMR should have this thing rolling as far as talent.

86Cane

The problem could have been identified VERY EARLY with a competent ST coach. I have been observing his punting technique for some time now and have the solution. His drop is way too early and his point of contact is way too high.

He has now power left in the kick when his leg is at hip height, he should be making contact at ankle or knee height for max power. It is so clear and obvious that it is ridiculous.

86Cane

And I am not even a coach. It is the same mechanics as a tennis swing or a golf swing. It is about building torque. You have to LOAD the power and torque and then deliver it to the ball. It is not rocket science, it is coaching. We do not have it.

CaneRock

Patrick Joyner is a heck of a high school football player. Joyner is listed as a DE, but he has good size and speed for a LB and is probably the best LB recruit in South Florida for this class. Canes LB corp could use more quality depth, and Joyner has a chance to play early.

What do make of Rousseau? LB or DE?

His Royal Dudeness

To me, the spread option isnt about opening it up, but easily identifying 1 on 1 matchups in space. Short throws become long gains with great blocking. You dont have to run your QB a bunch, but he does need to be able to pick up a 1st down. It seems to me that SoFL produces a bunch of spread type players, especially at QB, plus the OL talent in Miami isnt exactly the class of the country year in and out. We have to be able to find isolation opportunities, then hit Jeff Thomas with room. Right now we just go deep 1 on 1 and its just too inconsistant to hit on.

VA Cane

Think you are spot on Depth is a key...nice to rotate linemen on both sides...LBs...mix different combos on D on say 2nd long 3rd long.....there is some coaching issues too...we got to get that OL lean mean hungry every play they gotto find that depth like VT ND game....OL coaching got to get better...QBs need a lot of work...MR is a good kid...not a major program QB....ES is not either....We will see what Perry will be I would be prepping him now!
ST ands strength got to get better!!!
Still a damn good season....pleasant surprise for all of us!!!!

BigWindyCane1

Alabama opens as a -1 point favorite against defending national champion Clemson. Oklahoma is a -1 point favorite against Georgia. Whisky favored by 6.5 over our Canes

VA Cane

To me, the spread option isnt about opening it up, but easily identifying 1 on 1 matchups in space.

BUT if you can run it some...and have some RPO plays.using shotgun and pistol......and still use a strong pro set....the possibilities are endless and it makes people defend the whole field....with us you defend the middle of the line and an occasional long pass we are easily defended and stopped....again...where the hell is the TE in the mix? Richt has never really developed and used it...WE have had great TEs..Franks Shock K2 Jimmy G, Olsen....pretty damn impressive!!

While I can see the truth in that, my hope is with south Florida talent and a typically weak coastal it will be different for him here

I read all your postings, and I think that the nashing of teeth should come after we win in the ORANGE BOWL. Let's enjoy the moment. How many schools get to play in their own backyard, where we all hung out. The Orange Bowl is waiting for us. Bright lights, sold out stadium, cheering that rocks the stadium etc. Never will be like the real thing, though. The Lady OB was so special. Homerism is clouding yours.

The last regime taught me to believe my eyes.

We are better but there are concerns on BOTH sides of the ball.

We have consistent patterns of problems that are not player driven. Watching us get punked by a team with championship leadership made everybody jump right back on the " we don't have the talent train".

Yeah we lost a lot of guys and depth is concerning but those guys ain't 35 points better than us.

Why did the offense collapse after gaining some confidence against nd and vtech? Why did Malik regress SO BAD? Why is ol still inconsistent with 3 and 4 stars across the board?

Questioning Richt's national title it factor is not out of bounds after 17 seasons in the power 5. I don't think he feels his team well enough to beat the top coaches when it counts and to not get upset by bad teams when he can least afford it.

Hope I'm wrong but when my judgement is clouded, it's by optimism. I see clearly. Richt probably don't have the killer instinct. It's cool. We will win a lot and lose some and embarrassing losses like last night will be less frequent.

VA Cane

Russell Wilson is an incredible QB....great leader he is from Richmond...we used to scrimmage his private school....it was obvious how great he was going to be then....he can do it ALL......he would work for us well...Perry...similar?

Richt had his team playing at a high level at the right time, late in the season.

But he took his foot off the gas and killed the momentum, and with it the needed confidence to take down teams like Clemson.

It is more than talent.

It is more than X's and O's.

The championship coaches dial their team in and control them emotionally using strategies that let them do what they do, not try to make them what they are not.

The players learned a valuable lesson last night.

Hopefully, Coach did too.

I agree but even if we had a guy who could do what Richt wants, he won't survive because of the hits Richt allows the qb to take with slow developing plays.

Two completely different types of qbs but very similar offensive problems tells me talent at qb ain't the only issue we have had.

InsideTheU has learned that defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph, defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski and safeties coach Ephraim Banda are all set to go in-home with Top100 cornerback Tyson Campbell, Top100 cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. and Top300 defensive end Andrew Chatfield.

Miami currently leads on the 247Sports' Crystal Ball for Campbell and Chatfield after luring both prospects to Hard Rock Stadium last month for unofficial visits. LSU continues to look like the likely landing spot for Surtain Jr., but those close to him think that the Hurricanes could be in line to land an official visit before a decision is made on Feb. 7's National Signing Day.

Let's just hope Perry takes over this off season and makes us forget about both Kaaya and Nosier.

CoCane

He had a lot of bad throws early, late, short, long, deep and wide.

The game saving passes to against GT and FSU were prayers answered by Langham.

All of his NFL caliber completions were luck. If it was skill he would've did it a lot more.

I'm just glad the team did good enough to red shirt Perry.

Those passes were skill... by the guy catching.

So we made a Turnover Chain at my house, out of glittery foam sheets. And I'll tell you motivates my daughter to do her chores, lol.

Then we sing the sing...

You see little girls clean their rooms?
She get that Turnover Chain!
You see little girls pick up their mess?
She get that Turnover Chain!

I'm telling you she loves it.

Now I just need to train my wife with it for when she gets me beers, hahahahahaha!

Rosier to Langham FSU was a legit back shoulder throw.

Rosier to Langham GT was lucky. Ball should have been placed higher.

Look at Nosier's body of work for the season. The accuracy on the pass to Langham against FSU was luck. Langham's catch and move to score was the skill...

I fully expect Willie Taggart to sign with FSU, but if Oregon could somehow convince him to stay it would devastate that program for years imo. If Taggart does come in I would expect a good # of their decommits to recommit. Finger crossed they spend next year with a coach they did not want/expect to hire!
On a side note we are lucky to have a stable, loyal HC. UM will never be able to pay the money that's being offered today. 7.5 million to coach @ Texas A&M? 5.5 million if Taggart stays at Oregon or goes to FSU? #CrayCray

Go 'canes!

Body of work says it was a stroke of luck that he was that accurrate. I will say this though Co, earlier he hit on some throws, last few games has been a complete famine.

Whats funny about FSU is, they didnt have but maybe 3 guys we'd take. Seriously.

We are far, far less talented than Clemson. If you trusted your eyes you’d see that.

They literally have double the 4 & 5 Star players we do and that’s before we lost Walton, Richards and Herndon. We still don’t even have a full scholarship roster while they’ve been loading up and developing guys for half a decade. .

They’re something like 40-3 over their last 43 games and will likely be playing for and winning he title again this year.

Saying Richt somehow took his foot off the gas is arm chair coaching at its worst.

Taking the all conference running back, WR and TE off any Top 25 team and it’s going to struggle. Do it to a team that’s short on players before they went down and a QB that can’t complete half his passes and our offense was what it showed on Saturday.

Go Canes!!

please tell the dead homie Co Canes I only sad "anybody could do what Brad did" turns out I was right!!!!!

You literally have lost your mind.

Kaaya completed 17 straight and 23 of his last 24 passes in a bowl win to end last year Oh I forgot, to you he somehow had a failing grade that night and anyone could have done that.

Well Malik hasn’t completed 17 passes IN A GAME since Syracuse.

And please stop with your “he” won more than Kaaya or anyone else for that matter.

FSU throw was great. But he was awful before that.

He had three picks against VT that kept it closer than it had any business being.

He also threw that inexplicable INT against UNC in the fourth quarter, in their red zone, up 24-13. So instead of the game being iced we ended up in a dogfight.

Two more picks and 50% passing against UVA nearly killed us and Pitt, well we all saw Pitt.

The reality is CMR and the QB coach you love to rip did a good ob of hiding his obvious passing deficiencies for most of the season and our defense and skill position players, until we basically ran out of them, bailed us out game after game after game.

Fully Agree

Rosier right now is probably middle of the pack of our QBs over the past 20 years. He is not the best but be careful what you wish for because he definitely isn't the worst.

Our OC hasn't helped at all. Rosier could be more accurate but I am Old School on this, if the ball hits you in your hands you have to catch it. Dorsey was constantly bailed out by his receivers with those lame duck long balls he used to throw.

Yes it appears that Rosier starts off slow in games but don't forget we haven't been able to get the run game going early all season either. The defenses have known what's coming. It was constant 3rd and longs all season. We were too predictable.

Better than expected season but Pitt didn't have more talent than us and though Clemson should have beat us there is no excuse for losing the way we did. We scored the same amount of points against Clemson as the Citadel and Kent State.

Beat Wisconsin and we had a good season.

What do make of Rousseau? LB or DE?

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | December 03, 2017 at 09:12 PM

IMO Rousseau could be a LB, but I see him definitely as a DE. Rousseau has the raw talent. Canes need some DEs in this class, so he and Chatfield would be a great hall for Coach Kul, who will coach them up.

BigWindyCane1

I would love to see CB Tyson Campbell in this class to join our stacked DB class. It could be the best DB class in the country, which is what the Canes should have.

1. Rosier to Langham FSU was a legit back shoulder throw.

2. Rosier to Langham GT was lucky. Ball should have been placed higher.

1. Yes sir... What about the other two dimes to Berrios too!

2. Look at the whole drive down the field before that pass... IN THE RAIN. Yes that pass and catch was luck but had it not been for a bad blocking call on Mullens would we need that pass???

CaneRock

Everything negative thing y'all are saying about Rosier, y'all can say about Kaaya.

Rosier lost to a crappy Pitt team, Kaaya lost to a crappy ND team.

Richt had to tweak some things to overcome Rosier's shortcomings, ditto with Kaaya.

Receiver's had to make extraordinary plays to bail Rosier out, ditto with Kaaya.

But 2 things you can't take away from Rosier that Kaaya NEVER did...He beat FSU, and He led His team down the field to do it...in thrilling fashion...CONVINCINGLY!

Boy stop! I'll take the results of this year vs ANY KAAYA YEAR!!! What non football people like you don't realize is that it's not only about your performance... it could be your presence or the fact that your teammates believe in you to come thru?

You keep leaving out the fact that Kaaya had a failing grade in the bowl that according to you he was just so on fire lol!

The man NEVER beat fsu and only beat ONE ranked team in THREE YEARS

It's all been fun and games thug 😂... you know you still da homie! 💯💯💯

Terrance Sullivan

Bragging about beating a 6-6 FSU team is for the birds. Now beating a 9 win Virginia Tech and 9 win Notre Dame now that is something to talk about not the worst FSU team in decades. That's weak sauce Brotha.

WWIN

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR...

Long story short... Kaaya wanted to leave and a lot of people here was crying about it but I stood tall and said "let him, anybody can do what he did".

You wanna compare STATS or WINS? I take wins all day! People don't realize how different the game would be if Kaaya was here... d-linemen would be having a field day sacking him... and we all know how rattled he gets. He would have needed a whole new grill after this season. He was a sitting duck! How many people actually thought we would have the season we had with Rosier... but now people wanna sh*t on him???

Personally I don't want Kaaya or Rosier... but if I had to choose I'm rolling with Rosier

First of all... if you're a Canes vet, which I know you are... you throw records out the window when Canes play fsu... don't give a damn how garbage they are they play us like it's a national championship game... you know that! Plus they beat us 7 TIMES IN A ROW... that was a WHOLE FULL GROWN GORILLA on our back.

Don't be that guy Tsully!
