That said, the content of the blog is spot on.

People say that "Richt needs his own players."

What did Frost do?

People saying that we don't have enough talent.

What did Frost do?

People saying that we have no OL.

What did Frost do?

People saying that we have no QB.

What did Frost do?

Losers make excuses.

Winners find solutions.

SinisterCane

Will CMR recruit Nosier back or tell him to listen to his gut lol

SinisterCane

QB coach - no prior experience as coach

OC that don't even call plays

WR coach coaching has been solid

OL coach - should be fired

ST coach - should be demoted from this group and only coach TE's

RB coach - average at best

Thats a lot of inexperience just n the offensive side of the ball

VA Cane

At times we looked good, at times we looked like pre Richt teams...weak unsure.

3 things... 1....I was glad to see CMR get real and blow some steam...Jesus Is just Alright With Me (Doobie Brothers), but damn time you showed some emotion.

2 Watch OU and GA play we had a good year, but we are nowhere near either one of those teams....thats big time football!

3 Sony Michel must be 30!

VA Cane

Good point 86....
"Winners find ways to win, losers learn to quit and quitters learn to fail"!

We could have won...how bad did we want to win....there were some bad calls....but you have to compete and want to win!

Such a ridiculous, but typical, statement from you.

^^^ It’s a fair point.

BEERicane

Not GCs point, but 86’s point it totally fair.

roachcane77

Biggest difference between us and them is:

OC
QB
RB
OL
DB

Other than that... we could be competing for a 6th, (I mean 7th), NC.

SinisterCane

GA AD made the right move

BigWindyCane1

Looks like this UGA v OKLA game is shaping up to be a good one.

Looks like this CFB semi-final game proved to be one for the ages.

VA Cane

Sad to say but GA plays for title with CMRs players....interesting situation

BEERicane

Co, I didn’t watch the game. Did OU win like you said?

SoFL dominated that shit. Get those guys, we back.

SinisterCane

Watching all the bowls game today we have the worst staff in the top 15

BigWindyCane1

South Florida all over the field. Sony Michel was 11 rushes for 181 yards. Aside from That fumble, he was unbelievable

Terrance Sullivan

U are right can't argue this blog article. Time will tell.

BigWindyCane1

If Clemson doesn't wake up soon, this will be an old fashioned woodshed game. Clemson needs to play with more urgency

VA Cane

We had a good year....little rough at the end...but better than many years.
We know we were not real contenders for the NC...but we did win our division and got to title game....we have a lot of work to do.
We will have a different QB....and different people I think we need a real dynamic OC....CMR is not one. We got a foothold on climbing higher and we will need to work hard.
Good year!

86Cane

Go Canes...any comment you make will be deleted ASAP. So be a man, just stop posting and please find another blog.

Thank U.

To be realistic - put UCF into the SEC or ACC and there is no way that they run the table.

Scott Frost is evidently a great coach that found a way to elevate his talent above the relative mediocrity of the All American Conference. Put a great coach in a weak conference and you get seasons like UCF this year and Boise State in the past. And like Boise, UCF got up for this game, was probably taken lightly by Auburn, and won.

Chris Peterson is the same. He had outstanding success with Boise State. Yet now finishing his fourth year at Washington, how many undefeated seasons has he had with the Huskies? Yes, he's elevated them significantly, but there is a bigger hurdle to going undefeated in a Power 5 school than in the All American or the Western Athletic conferences.

orange 'n green in the vein

2018 is the year the Smarks take over, aka the year I've been waiting for since about 2011.

It better be good.

VA Cane

Well put TC....Power 5 undefeated is tough...a rare bird!!!
We will get better...I dont compare us to others really...we just need to keep working hard and getting better in all areas.
There is a lot of room to improve...but we did a lot better than in past years!

BigWindyCane1

As per Ariz: Miami LB Darrion Owens will be transferring, sources say. He is eligible to play elsewhere immediately since he graduated in December. Houston is a possible landing spot.

1. Scott Frost is evidently a great coach that found a way to elevate his talent above the relative mediocrity of the All American Conference. Put a great coach in a weak conference and you get seasons like UCF this year and Boise State in the past.

2. Chris Peterson is the same. He had outstanding success with Boise State. Yet now finishing his fourth year at Washington, how many undefeated seasons has he had with the Huskies?

Posted by: TonyCane | January 01, 2018 at 10:06 PM

1. The ACC Coastal is about the same as the weak ass AAC. Everybody knows that. Just like every sane person knows that losing to Pitt was a tragedy not a mistake.

2. Mark Richt did not come from a "Boise State" like Peterson did. he came from SEC powerhouse Georgia. He knew college football at the highest levels and failed to take Miami to that level.

Keep making excuses, they are for losers.

Richt did not do what Frost did in two years.

Richt did not have an aggressive offensive scheme, creative play calling or attack attitude like Frost did.

Just watch a replay of the two teams play in their bowl games. Richt with MORE time to prepare and twice the talent than Frost had doing DOUBLE duty, and it is obvious.

86Cane

Now don't get it twisted, I still give Mark y Mark another two years to load up on talent prove me wrong. I hope he will but I doubt it.

BigWindyCane1

By the way, Canes men basketball at #15 in the latest AP poll

TonyCane

Let's look at how much of an anomaly Scott Frost actually was.

Each of the following winless seasons led to a new head coach taking over, and here is how the coach did in Year 1 and 2 of the new regime:

1988 Kansas State (0-11)
Bill Snyder becomes new head coach
Year 1: 1-10
Year 2: 5-6

2001 Navy Midshipman (0-11)
Paul Johnson becomes new head coach
Year 1: 2-10
Year 2: 8-5

2003 Army Black Knights (0-13)
Bobby Ross becomes new head coach
Year 1: 2-9
Year 2: 4-7

2005 Temple Owls (0-11)
Al Golden becomes new head coach
Year 1: 1-11
Year 2: 4-8

2008 Washington Huskies (0-12)
Steve Sarkasian becomes new head coach
Year 1: 5-7
Year 2: 7-6

2015 UCF Knights (0-13)
Scott Frost becomes new head coach
Year 1: 6-7
Year 2: 13-0

Based on the results, Scott Frost may in fact be better - maybe far better a coach - than CM Richt. But if that's the case, let's be clear about one thing. No one here or elsewhere was clamoring for Scott Frost to be hired at the end of the 2015 season. People wanted Butch or Richt. Frost was like Major Applewhite - an unproven commodity. An someone with the apparent upwards trajectory of Frost is not a plentiful commodity. It's not as if the AD saw Frost's excellence and passed on it for mediocrity.

If Frost is who he appears to be - then UCF was incredibly fortitous in their hire. And Nebraska will defeat Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan and be on their way to a national championship in the 2019 season. Maybe.

86Cane

Tony...OK, I get it, that probably is a good and fair analysis. The ONLY point I am trying to make is that IT CAN BE DONE anywhere at anytime by any coach if he is good enough and wants it bad enough.

Frost did it at UCF of all places and if you are watching closely then you might now that coach at FAU may be the next one to do it. Please post their records over the last 5 years?

MLAlumni1970

Canes BB is a hell of a lot better than #15.
My boyfriend, now says completely, that Miami Hurricanes are so wrongly penalized. He cannot believe it after watching their football game. BIAS AGAINST THE U

BigWindyCane1

Hopefully, our Canes defense (especially the juniors considering going early to the NFL) are watching this Clemson game, and see how far they really need to go before they are considered a great defensive team.

This might be a woodshed beat down

MLAlumni1970

BIAS AGAINST THE U.
BAMA 24 CLEMSON 6
HOPE YOU ALL HAD A SAFE NEW YEAR.

VA Cane

Clemson D looks good.....TD by Bama OL was way Offensive PA...but thats tough luck. Their offense without the people they had last year is no match for Bama....they drilled our AZZ!!
We are not ready to play the big boys yet....we need to be dynamic but also be able to get in a heavyweight fight....not yet not with them.
But On We Jam....we were so far behind from the last 3 coaches that we are not gonna get there overnight.

86Cane

Never mind I will do it for you:

The last two seasons the FAU Owls went 3-9.

In his first year as head coach Lane Kiffin went 11-3 and a won a conference championship and a bowl game victory.

But he didn't have his "own recruits" so it must have been impossible for him to do so? The stuff is thick!

TonyCane

That Alabama defense looks incredible against Clemson.

Honestly, this is the way that Alabama should always play. They have such a talent disparity versus almost all of college fooball that Saban should have had multiple undefeated seasons and six national titles this decade. When you have over 20’five star players and 40 four star players, the talent gap is ridiculous.

86Cane

Now Richt could prove me wrong and start Perry next year with more talent around him and go 12-0 and be in the playoff picture.

But if I were a betting man I would say there is about a 70% chance of that. Which is pretty high but nothing near a guarantee.

I do not believe in his offense at all.

I do not believe in the special teams coach.

That is 2/3 of the team that is shaky at BEST.

BigWindyCane1

McIntosh, Norton and Jackson can return and help the Canes get their defense to a true elite level. They can't feel good about how they played against Wisconsin. They can work over the summer, improve, and return next season and dominate. Impose their will on other teams. Then, they will improve their draft stock

VA Cane

And they can win with a very average...but tough non passing QB...he looks good sometimes...and bad others...but they are so tough up front and keep running at you...and their D is relentless....we are fast on D....but we do not hit quite like that they have that hate....BUT we can get there.....CMR has to want to play low hard clean fast....man you got to HATE people...Saban hates his opponents....not for people but as opponents who stand in the way of...not division not conference....NC!

CMR needs to get angry.....that was good to see....i wish he would do it more....Hongry to Hit Hate Hurt!!!!

VA Cane

Good point 86....I do not like the Offensive philosophy...yet look at GA Michel Chubb...run hard.....but under KS they seemed so much more north south aggressive nasty ....and hiting and hurting....we seemed so soft and happy to be soft.....I have never coached that way.....my guys this year were so aggressive...we dominated every game at the line....
ST are so critical....we looked.... weak.....like you said 2 out of 3 aint bad....if you're Meatloaf!!!!
We got to tighten up toughen up....get some direction!!!!

MLAlumni1970

In 2015, I didn't know who this Scott Frost was and felt very comfortable with Butch Davis.
What does that have to do with anything?
Happy New Year CANESPACERS

RCCF

Ok So,

- Goldens kids are still here and Mark has to motivate the Nittany mediocrity off of them and out of them

- QB competition is GREAT, A Freshman winning said battle not so much. Yes pure athleticism and Greatness peeks it's head in Freshman often, but Depth and all where we sit now if Perry or Weldon loses and the latter doesn't transfer, that means our #2 QB is a 5th year Senior AND our back ups are R- Frosh killing the Future Depth chart because elite QB will now say "NO, I will NEVER touch the field there it's pointless" - Worst Case Scenario

- Anyone who knows Anything about football knows, it starts in the dirt and the bighogs make it work....See Point 1... May I introduce you to Goldens Boys? We are Very Nittany up front Idk if you guys know it but coaches recruit to their Scheme hence why players you guys Salivate over NEVER get, got looks that you believe they deserve. Also the players have ideas of and about schemes they wanna play in, News Flash, Golden Ball was mediocrity in a Jar.. there are still kids built in the mold of what Golden looked for. Richt wants SEC minded kids.

- Blame Mark when his kids are actually on the field to execute the SEC format he has and is imposing on kids who are found on BIG10 principles with Ivy League athleticism.
No, not all of the players fit this, Yes at least 20 Golden Boys are SEC molded kids but when mediocrity is your Grace and Given right, a culture of NFL before U is natural..

But I'm just a fan..

Also Imagine what we will look like when we have a kid Fired Up Like Baker Mayfield was!!

BEERi,

I picked OU to win it. I was wrong. I can admit when I'm wrong. See how easy it is. Too bad others can't 🙄

As for Richt...

I told y'all when he was hired, I was sceptical of him being a championship coach. UGA fired him for a reason. The only way he wins a title is if he stacks too much talent for anyone to deal with. He ain't going to out coach the elite coaches.

It's funny how I say things that get ignored. Only for others to repeat it later and never give me props.

Then, when I am wrong (BEERi). I get recognized for that.

I still love y'all though...

Goodnight

TonyCane

Here's the question I have...is Nick Saban the best game day coach of the last decade or merely the best recruiter? When he does win a national championship is it more to do with his having an absurd advantage in talent?

We know what he has been on NSD, but how would you rate him as a game day coach?

His Royal Dudeness

Hes a play it by the book coach on gameday. And he's a Commanding Officer of a military style, micro-managed bootcamp every other day. Butch was similar in his attention to little details.

I was wrong on both games too. OU choked their win away and Bama just took a sledge hammer to Clemson. They looked impressive.

As far as CMR wining only by stockpiling overwhelming talent, isn’t that what everyone does?

When is the last time a team that hadn’t accumulated Top 5 overall recruiting classes for a 5-6 year period or longer won it?

There are no Cinderellas in the college football playoff, only deep, loaded rosters with very highly paid coaches.

Honest question, did Kirby Smart outreach anyone this season and when?

His four biggest games this season were a one point win over Notre Dame, a team we throttled, a 30 point loss to a four loss Auburn team, a revenge win against that same Auburn team and a win last night over a team that choked liked dogs.

His all world defense got torched in two of those four games and imo they won last night cause Oklahoma got away from doing everything that was blowing them out of the stadium...

Not comparing or trying to make a bigger point. Just interested in opinions.

Amen. I dont know if Cinderella will ever win one, maybe... I do know that there is a recipe for getting there that seems to work a lot and its just as you stated, stack an unreal amount of 4 & 5 star talent. Not sure how far Richt can take us on the journey back to the top, but I dont think hes taken us as far as he can yet. In 2 more years our roster will be sooooo much better than it was when he got here, at that point we can address him as a HC. Now if Richt will please, please, please hire a spread offense coordinator!

Art Briles had his son as an OC & WRs coach & Lane Kiffin hired his dad as DC, also his bro is DC now. I think your point does have some merrit though. I think putting a staff together is difficult as you dont know the strengths and weaknesses of the group really until it starts working together. We'll see who this 10th coach is soon. I think if Richt doesnt add offensive help, hes holding the team back.

VA Cane

I think Saban gets good talent in the right places...front 7 front 5...gets good strong backs and receivers and physical dbs...he gets by with QBs who were like KD11.

His talent is good and deep, and most important he still beats you blocking and tackling Fundamentals. They are not fancy...but tough strong disciplined...play assignment football. Yes he loses one here and there....but he is the best as he still plays old style fundamental football block tackle dont fumble catch it...get TOs play good D ST.....its just his talent is deep strong disciplined

VA Cane

KD was smart...not great athlete leader and had great talent to work with. He never made it as a pro...still great college guy...like Tebow.
Sabans QBs are not pro guys that are great....but the lead and are disciplined...do as told and lead.

Tony,
Our Canes defense was the strength of the team, but last night, Alabama showed us what a strong defense looks like against a common opponent, Clemson. Clemson moved the ball on the Canes, but was just overwhelmed by a more talented, faster and stronger group individual defenders. Saban obviously coaches them up, but they are very good. Each man won their individual battles. The Alabama offense is very average, but that defense truly carries that team. Dabo didn't look like a great offensive coach last night because they were simply overwhelmed.

I think the best recruits are attracted to the best coaches and successful programs. Alabama is strong up front on both sides of the ball. Championship game will be very interesting

VA Cane

BWC,
I think that is Bamas strength year in year out....strong up front on OL...strong front 7 physical challenging DBs...all aggressive.
You got that you can beat at the point of attack...fundamentals...and have good backs and QBs....quick receivers.....control the action with the strong fronts....

I'd like Richt to hire an offensive mind also, but IMHO, He needs to hire a hybrid LB/STs coach. I don't think either coach is getting the most out of their units.

Terrance Sullivan

I am glad I didn't bet on the CFB playoff games because I was wrong on both games. Didn't we score like 34 or 35 points per game in 2016 what was our ranking in relation to College Football and note we should have averaged 40-42 points per game if BK was at 67-70% completion percentage instead of 62% completion percentage.so we got to get back to the 40/20 score ratio to get back where we want. Our defense has been holding up there end of the deal the last two years. Our offense needs to get it together. 35ppg in 2016 and 29ppg in 2017 is sub-par.

Wow. Did the SOUP LOSE one thousand and one-hundred dollars on the game! ( Albeit I doubt he's a gambling degenerate and all that. ) Because it sure sounds that way and what not.

Nevertheless, is time for the Miami Hurricane football program to BOLT that ' corrupt ' ACC! Because fleeing to the Big 12 or going INDEPENDENT in football is surly better to being a member of that CORRUPT ACC! hUh.

For instance, Miami could still be a member of the ACC in both basketball, and baseball. Akin to mighty Notre Dame. And the LOGISTICS of being in the Big 12 is practical and what not. dUh. Seeing that frequent flyer miles is no different than traveling to Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsburg, or even the Virginia schools. Heck, West Virginia is further EAST than Coral Gables.

The reason why I bring up this weird notion of the Mac degree, is because I'm SICK AND TIRED AND DISGUSTED with Miami getting the SHAFT up the U Know What- albeit metaphorically speaking. And Miami getting abused the ACC referee crews has been going since Miami joined the ACC.

Finally, kudos to Coach Mark Richt for finally exhibiting his displeasure with some JOHNNY REBEL, GOOD OL' BOY, BACKWOODS CORRUPT sec referee crew!!!!!!!!

Oh, and one more notion. I absolutely knew it was a BAD OMEN for Richt and the team when I found out some good ol' boy crew from the notorious corrupt SEC was handling the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gin & Tonic

From Rivals ranking qb's in the Army Bowl after day 1. Jarren Williams ranked 6th out of the 6 qb's.

There is no question Williams has a live arm and can fire it all over the field but on Day 1, the four-star Miami signee struggled with high throws and it didn’t get much better as the day went on. The Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett recruit was not missing receivers with overthrows that went uncaught but he was not hitting them in the numbers, either, and the ball sailed a few times more than the other quarterbacks. That might be a little nitpicky but all the quarterbacks were solid in an indoor setting. Williams did show nice accuracy throwing on the run but when he was standing in the pocket on numerous occasions the ball was not right on the money.

His Royal Dudeness

Mark Helfrich should be the guy.

At Boise State Helfrich coached Broncos quarterback Bart Hendricks. Under Helfrich's development, Hendricks won Big West Conference Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and guided the Broncos to the fourth best passing offense in the nation in 2000.

Under the coaching of Helfrich, Andrew Walter broke nearly every Arizona State passing record and John Elway's Pac-10 touchdown record. Walter would go on to be drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Dirk Koetter would later praise Helfrich for his coaching abilities, "He can do it all in his head. He doesn't have to draw the pictures on the board."

In 2006, Helfrich joined the Colorado staff to become the youngest offensive coordinator in college football on the BCS level at the age of 32. His three seasons at Colorado were a challenge as he developed the Buffaloes dismal offense into a modest improvement.

During Helfrich's four seasons as Oregon's offensive coordinator the offense ranked highly nationally in several offensive categories and became well known for their extremely fast-paced offense built around speed. Although Chip Kelly called the plays on offense, Helfrich still played an integral role in Oregon's system. He had a large amount of involvement in the game planning, scripting, and coaching on a weekly basis while having a high amount of input in what plays are called and why they are called.

Kelly spoke highly of his protégé, "He's really, really smart and has great people skills. Sometimes, smart people can't get their point across, but he's a great communicator. When I hire people, I want to hire very, very smart people. I wanted somebody who came from a different system. I didn't want a yes-man. I wanted someone who would bring new ideas to our system."

As quarterbacks coach, Helfrich was instrumental in the development of the quarterbacks that played under his tutelage at Oregon. In 2009, Jeremiah Masoli's leadership improved as he led Oregon to the 2010 Rose Bowl. The following season sophomore Darron Thomas guided an undefeated Oregon team to the 2011 BCS National Championship Game. Thomas finished his career 23–3 as a starter with a school-record 66 touchdown passes and led the Ducks to a 45–38 victory over #10 Wisconsin in the 2012 Rose Bowl. The 2012 season showcased Marcus Mariota as the first freshman to start a season opener for the Ducks in 22 seasons. He led the Ducks to a 12–1 record while being named All-Pac-12 Conference First Team, Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, and winning the 2013 Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP Award.

Richt & Helfrich are somewhat familiar having brainstormed before the 2017 season in October.

Yeah, yeah, yeah excuses are for losers and all that. However, when Wisconsin holds time after time, and gets away with obvious pass interference penalties. Then it's time to whine, moan and bytch about it. Heck, a faithful CHRISTIAN in the person of one Mark Rich seriously wanted to LITERALLY LAY OUT that putrid, corrupt Johnny Rebel ref!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, it's easy for an AVERAGE Wisconsin QB to throw' darts, when he LITERALLY has FIVE seconds to find an open receiver! hUh. In other words, the kid had a CAREER passing night with a HELPING non-whistle from the ref's. Ouch.
