Marrero:

I cannot start this off without saying what a monster way to start #Surge19 off with a bang. This commitment is on the level of Lorenzo Lingard IMO not just by what Payton is ranked, it has more to do with the level of respect players around the state of Florida have for Jeremiah Payton.

When I spoke to Payton’s dad minutes after the commitment he sounded very excited about what Miami is building and the level of talent they’re going to surround Jeremiah with. Also according to a source. When Payton’s commitment got back to the war room “Mark Richt almost fell off his chair and was very excited about Payton’s commitment.

About Coach Hartley. He’s easily one of the best recruiters in the country and this commitment was a long time coming. This commitment would not have happened according to multiple sources without Miami landing 2018 Miami signee Will Mallory. Mallory’s commitment started what Coach Hartley likes to call #DUUUVAL county according to the sources.

Payton will be an early enrollee.

Also just so fans know. Payton will be talking a majority of his official visits as of right now.

Mark Richt is building a formidable wide receiver Corp.

Barring any early departures, that’s SEVEN four star wide receivers that we will have on our roster in 2020.

Little did you realize that "Gray" is merely a title of UM football lore, passed on to certain chosen apprentices. Much in similarity to the Sith, who took upon the title of "Darth" to accompany their name.

So while the Master, Gray Crow may be gone, there likely is an apprentice. Gray Perry. Or Gray Rozier. Or Gray Williams.

There will likely always be a Gray on the roster.

During our little "vacation" from the space, looked at some recruting information for 2019.

There is no doubt the interest level from uber-elite kids across the board is the absolute hightest it's been here in nearly 20 years

Also looked at when the 4 and 5 Star loaded class we hauled in last year got on board and stuck without wavering.

Program changers like Lingard, Jordan, Mallory and Pope committed, immediately started recruiting for us and never waivered.

Also shocked how few defectors we had. Maybe two we really seemed to care about?

We have the same thing happening this year.

We have the #1 overall class going and that's with a bunch of our guys getting some questionable 3 star ratings. We also have anchor players committed and others who appear ready to pull the trigger.

Hartley and Dugans are tearing it up. They are recruiting machines.

And while we'll miss Coach Kul from a techical standpoint, it doesnt seem like he was all that into recruting and there was ome type of disconnect with the players he was going after.

We are continuing to stack talent. Need to get more D-line and LB talent and depth, but it's coming.

As long as we have CMR at the helm we are going to be a year in, year out force to be reckoned with.

It appears that way with some level of certainty.

Recruiting has been very good but there are still several areas that need to be improved and issues to be addressed. We ALL already know what those areas and issues are so not going to go into detail on it all over again. BUT if Richt can fix a few things and not lose a game he should not then it would seem like we are on our way to great success.

TonyCane

Depth-wise the offense looks to be in as good of shape as it has been in two decades. Amazing what CM Richt was able to do in the receiver department. We brought in three receivers this class after getting three in 2017. And we have 2 set for 2019, and are looking to bring in one more.

Coker got one or two in a two year period and was left having to convert punters and corners in order to field an offense. Shannon overrecruited in 2008 and we were unable to sign another four star wide receiver until 2012. Richt on the other hand is signing kids despite the increasingly deep, quality filled roster. It will breed competition and make everyone better.

Richt is building The Arsenal of Swagger.

Herbieibis

Glad we got the WR position loaded up, maybe if we can get 2 or 3 more will have enough, now let’s work on the Defense and get the qb situation taken care so we can get the ball to all these targets. Seriously, I like the direction we are heading but it does bother me when we recruit Lb’s that only weigh 178 lb’s.

For the second straight game, Miami's starting pitcher looked in dominant form through the first three innings.

And for the second straight contest, a fourth inning marred by miscues doomed the No. 24 Hurricanes. In only its second-ever visit to Mark Light Field, Missouri took advantage of Miami's mistakes in an 9-0 win Wednesday night in front of 2,202 fans.

Five of the Tigers' nine runs were scored in the inning.

The Hurricanes (2-2) mustered only six hits against the Tigers (3-1), who were paced by junior righthander Brian Sharp's five shutout innings.

Sharp (1-0) struck out eight, walked none and allowed just four hits.

STA 4-Star LB Avery Huff Speaks On His Recent Miami Visit, Interest In The Canes

By Stefan Adams

2019 4-star LB Avery Huff has had a huge interest in the hometown Miami Hurricanes for a long time now, so it was no surprise to hear his reaction when he finally got his Canes offer back in January.

“I was really excited,” Huff said.

Last weekend, Huff got to experience what life might be like as a member of the Canes. He’s coming off an unofficial visit to Coral Gables with St. Thomas teammates Jahmar Brown, Anthony Solomon, and Jaden Davis that was taken on Saturday. The coaches had all the visitors with each other the whole day and the attendees’ toured campus, met current Miami players, went to the Syracuse basketball game, and saw the academic buildings. The full visitor list included: Huff, Brown, Solomon, Davis, Cesare Mellusi, Dominic Mamarelli, Noah Cain, Trey Sanders, and Jeremiah Payton, among others.

“My visit at Miami was great, I loved everything about the school,” Huff said. “My interest in Miami is really high and I plan on taking an official there.”

And just what is it about Miami that is drawing Huff to the program?

“I just like the home feeling that Miami has. On the visit, I talked to all the coaches and I love all of their personalities.”

While he declines to name favorites for now, the 6’3” 200 pounder will likely choose a program where he’s comfortable and can play early.

“Me and my parents are just talking and considering every school," Huff said. “I’m just looking for a school that I don’t feel out place, a good learning environment, and a place I would get lots of reps at.”

Huff played at McArthur last season, and, while he didn’t get his stats due to his transfer to St. Thomas Aquinas, showed more than enough on the field to end up being recruited by the Raiders.

“I’d feel good if the team did way better,” Huff said. “I played at McArthur High School, we went 1-9. On the field, I think I did pretty good, though.”

Posted by: CGNC | February 23, 2018 at 01:15 PM

I heard Herbibis had applied but was rejected. He promised to recruit 4 of the top DTs every year. But apparently something about his "background screening" didn't satisfy the requirements??

Herbieibis

I did apply and Soup u are right I would recruit nothing but the best. At least 4 star or bust!
Losing Kool stinks but I don’t believe the recruiting gig was his thing. He’s used to coaching mainly 3 star type talent, just imagine what he’ll do at Bama with all those 4 and 5 star players.

AeroCane

We don't have a good baseball team guys! Very disappointing! Morris can't leave soon enough and I'm just gonna say it- DiMare won't cut it either. I feel that we should have gotten a young, aggressive head coach like the turds got with Sullivan or we got 23 or so yrs ago with Morris.

Canes men basketball play Boston College with a chance to reach 20 wins on the season at home. The win against Notre Dame seems to be a confidence builder. The new starting lineup seems to have helped. Hope that gives them something to build on.

The baseball team capuldn’t hit last year and it will probably be their achillies heel this year and it is time for some new blood to be running the show. There’s always 2 or 3 pitchers out for the year, as well. Hot weather state where u can be outside year round, plus all the talent in the area should equal success. No way should we struggle in football or baseball, with the high school talent at their doorstep.

orange 'n green in the vein

Time to clean all the offensive assistant coaching staff out on the basketball team. Jacking up a contested from a runner three when the score is tied that late in the half means that somebody hasn't taught them to drive that for a dunk instead at the end of the scoring lane against a zone defense more than one play behind still and that's inexcusable.

At least they're finally figuring out not to play both the defensive liability midget and the recruiting blunder from down under midget together at all unless they're trying to lose yet again. Oh wait, they still haven't quite mastered that concept yet either . . .

BEERicane

Maybe it’s time to get L outta there too.

BigWindyCane1

Glad that the Canes found a way to win the game. Canes still trying to find their groove. I don’t see smart, experienced basketball being played, but I like how they fought hard when they were down late. Another 20 win season for the Canes this season. Remarkable accomplishment by Coach L and his team
