They are as good as it gets as far as prospects go. Their talent is off the charts and its completely up to how bad they want it. Any scouting report would read, "Cant miss."

Herbieibis

Let The Herb say this, it has been a minute and I mean a minute, since we had a big splash on signing day. Like I said before, we ain’t got no problem getting them to visit the weekend before signing day, it’s getting pen to paper where we have flopped. Getting just one of those big fish, to me would be a big let down. Granted we would still have a very good class but good ain’t great and it’s time for us to break through and finish great.
We all know u can’t sign them all but it gets to be irksome watching star caliber kids from the area vamoose to some other school plus we don’t have a back up plan if things go South. We have at least 6 or 7 ships left.

I agree with this. They certainly have all the tools and Surtain has the pedigree.

We'll all know in a few days.

Sticking to my prediction of PS2 and Nesta which would be an awesome finish to this class.

RCCF

They are coming out to a Big Production of Miami Music produced by MajorNine (Chad Thomas Producer Name) and it's gonna be CANE History... 4 out of 4 Clean Sweep!!

Thank Nesta!!

1mg of Epi

We back?

Herbieibis

GO,
I get u dog, BUT if u think by getting just those 2 that is curing our ills on the DEE-LINE U are mistaken! Think about it dude. At DE for next season we have:
Rouseau who needs to add some serious weight.
Patchen who I guess they move back to this position and has been injury prone.
The Jackson boys, Demetrius is coming off season ending knee surgery.
Lastly Garvin, who will be a sophomore. To my recollection that’s it, so not bring in at least 2 and it should of been 3 is a whiff!
We’ve had Silvera verballed for ever but even with him that only gives us 7. Now 7 isn’t a bad number BUT one is a grad transfer who couldn’t even start for the Illini, one is where did they get this guy from who wasn’t even rated, And Martin, Ford, Willis and Bethel All undersized and 2 of them didn’t play at all last year. We get up against a power run team we’re toast.? Why didn’t he go after some Juccos to fill the void by his forgetting until the last minute about the Defensive line. What good is all those ships, if you’re going to sit on them. What good is all those DB’s if our line is average?

Amen.

You can't fix an entire team in one class. Get those two and we have added ELITE talent at RB, QB, TE, RB, DB, DT and OL. At some positions you've added multiple guys at each position, not just one.

What the hell more do you want when you only have 25 scholarships to give per season.

Go Canes!!

It has been an overall weak year for D-linemen across Florida this year. Can't think of an elite local kid going somewhere else instead of here.

It will take time to fill every position on our roster with the depth we need.

UMike

Ok I can't keep away no matter how hard SOUP tried 😂😂😂

I've tried to to a lot of reading and research and catch up on the recruiting in this year's class and no way we go 4 for 4. I believe we get 2. Still a great class and a legit top 10 class based on quality, not quantity.

CaneRock

Agree with Herb, getting 2 outta 4 is sub-par. We shouldn't be losing a recruit like Chatman to a 4-7 UF team...ditto with Surtain Jr. to LSU.

Now I can understand battling UGA for a recruit, but still, those are types of recruiting battles we need to win, especially since we have a coach on staff that used to coach the kid.

This $h!t should be easy.

Go Canes!!

Top 10 at their positions nationally in this class including Nesta and PS2 per ESPN:

Brevin Jordan
Will Mallory
Lorenzo Lingard
Cameron Davis
Pat Surtain jr
Al Blades
Jarren Williams
Cleveland Reed
Nesta Silvera

Rivals has Pope as a 5 Star and Scalife Top 10 nationally.

This class, especially at the skill positions, is as loaded as loaded can possibly be.

1mg of Epi

can’t see it moron then go ahead and u step in it. U’ll Be whining next season when we can’t the run.

Posted by: Herbieibis | February 03, 2018 at 09:07 AM

Lol relax

1mg of Epi

But Go... this is Richts SECOND full recruiting cycle already. If he can’t get everybody in his second cycle he never will.

Go Canes!!

You have obvilously never heard the saying Rome was built in a day.

Or something like that.

CaneRock

This class, especially at the skill positions, is as loaded as loaded can possibly be.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 03, 2018 at 09:33 AM

True, but you also have to take into account that we lose Jackson, Redwine, & JJ to graduation, & on top of that we already lost Young to an unfortunate, career ending injury.

Losing out on the 2 AH DBs puts even more pressure on hitting our DB targets in next year's class...getting the 2 AH DBs buys us time for next year's class.

CaneRock

And that's the thing with a program like UM, you get a lot of these "3 & Done" types, you really have to recruit 2 years out.

Go Canes!!

We've had a bigger problem with 3 and shouldn't be outs.

1mg of Epi

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t take 2 cycles either.

86Cane

Ok I can't keep away no matter how hard SOUP tried 😂😂😂

Addictions are HARD to break!

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back...

Go Canes!!

But I get your point CR. We need numbers at several spots.

We got undeniable studs in Blades, Frierson and Ivey this year but only got Bandy last year.

Imo in 2019 we will see yet another Top 5-10 class with the next batch of need being emphasized.

86Cane

It will take time to fill every position on our roster with the depth we need.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | February 03, 2018 at 09:18 AM

Serious questions:

How much time will it take?

Other teams are getting their OL/DL needs met, why not UM?

You think fans will wait seven years to get it right?

CaneRock

Regardless, Miami's gonna get the kids that are good enough to leave after 3 years, this ain't BITD where kids hung around for 4 years regardless of how good they were. Can't get caught out there like Kuligowski scrambling for recruits.

Herbieibis

U are right u can’t build a team with one class but u dam sure bring in at least 2 players at every position and still have 4 or 5 ships left to fill for need. A few years ago we only had 5 WR’S and if Ezzards comes aboard we have what 12? Last time I looked u only play with one football and an erratic qb! Could be in the same boat next year with our LB’S, with all three leaving early if they start having a cum by ya moment, where we came into gether, we’ll leave together. I hope he plans for that to maybe happen, unlike Mac and Norton. Got one LB this cycle. Don’t worry we always have a pocketful of ships for our ole safety net: The Grad Transfer!

Go Canes!!

Posted by: 86Cane | February 03, 2018 at 10:25 AM

To get quality depth at every single position?

Several years.

To be good enough to run the table and be back in the ACC Championship game?

This year.

We dont have to have both. We are going to be good enough next season to do one without having the other.

Old Skool

What I think is missing in these discussions is an acknowledgement of randomness. No matter what you do, some years are bound to not go your way because that's the way probability works.

If all the best DLs in the nation were located in South Florida, would we be assured of filling our needs? Would all of them be interested in going to the U? Could none of them be interested in going to the U? Even if we had a dedicated DL recruiter with assistants to stay in contact with the prospects every day, would we be assured of always fulfilling our needs?

Like it or not, black swans exist.

Go Canes!!

Herb would you have said no to Pope, Wiggins and Hightower?

What would you have said if they were quoted as saying they loved the U but didn't get recruited?

Go Canes!!

In case you didn't get the memo...

Yes we'll probably be a preseason Top 10 team but we're taking 2018 off anyways... it may take CMR 5 full recruiting cycles to get us back to where we need to be so don't look at how fast it takes other programs.

P.S. we have the best coaches and recruiters at every position better than anybody in all of college football... so just trust them... they're NEVER wrong! Thanks

Herbieibis

I’d like our chances Old Skool, especially if they were mostly located here. Hate FSU, they don’t have no problem getting DLinemen, Bama, dam sure don’t have no problem, nor Clemson, it only seems to be us and usually we don’t have problems getting DE’S, just DT’S.
2015- we brought in Norton and Fines (Fines was not a find)
2016- we bring in Martin who hasn’t played much, if any
2017- we bring in Ford
2018- hopefully Silvera and we also now have Miller who just magically appeared.
Bethel was a DE and Willis originally was too.
2016 and 2017, if we bring in 2 each of those years we have some depth.

Ah! UMike predicting recruiting fails only 4 days from signing day? Smells like Canespace again. Just need Ohio to predict 4/4 and Canespace is stronger than ever.

RCCF

Nesta Silvera - Signing
Andrew Chatfield - Considering
Moro Ojomo - Considering
Jordan Miller - Signing
Keondre Coburn - Considering
Tito Odenigbo - Signing
Jamarcus Chatman - Considering

We are still looking good going into Wednesday on the DL

As far as the Star Studded 2 - I have said it more than once and truly believe that those 2 and the AH4 all sign with the U..

Lets Talk Football, if I wanted to be bored at work and talk politics I definitely wouldn't clock in to this page to do so.... Take that crap elsewhere PLEASE for those of us who truly only care about CANES shit!

I would beg to differ. I mean aren't the offense and defense on the same team. Even if you vote differently we are still on the same team. Plus the USA is still great. I can list numerous good stories to counter any bad one with what's going on. :-)

However, I will follow your lead.

If Rosier starts next year how many games do we win?

RCCF

We are Undefeated Next Year Regardless of QB...
Weird enough this team has a mirror of the 2001 Greatness
They have the Offensive Fire Power to put up Huge Numbers
They have the Defensive Returnees to Anchor at least a Top10 Defense
All we need now is someone cool and calm to drive the car
Malik can do that, but the question is do I really want him doing that
His being a SR and not leaving is our worst Heel, had he left or Brad had returned, this would be a non issue, but because he won 10 games and virtually brought us back into the spotlight the kid deserves a fair shot and edge.

Given the impending NFL lockout in 2020, there might be more guys than expected who stay with their college teams for four years. I think the lockout will be prolonged and ugly, and might go the entire season.

BigWindyCane1

With Chatman, Miller and Silvera coming in, and the Illinois graduate transfer, I think the Canes will be set at DT. Rousseau, Chatfield and another DE, will have the Canes set at DE for this season. I am not certain whether Chatfield is a DE or LB, but I defer to Coach Kul’s judgment there. Looking to see how these Canes DL develop this season. Coach Kul has some talent to work with. Aside from the grad transfer, I only envision 1-2 being a major contributor next season. But the year after that will be very different under Coach Kul’s tutelage and Coach Felder’s S&C development

BigWindyCane1

I get the feeling that Canes coaches saw Miller’s film, spoke to his coaches, met him to verify his size and character, then realized that they may have been fortunate.

I hate judging a player off of video, as I prefer to see them play in person. But the film does look impressive, but you never know until he plays against high level players. From looking at his film, I have to agree with that high school coach who said Miller reminds him of old school Canes recruits. Country strong, athletic and under-the-radar recruits who play with an enthusiastic motor, get coached up and developed. Then, go out and dominate.

BigWindyCane1

The great thing about Miller also is that he was not highly rated out of high school. If he comes in and develops, he will push players like Silvera (who was highly regarded out of high school), and make them play harder

Agreed. Jon Ford is absolutely huge. Standing next to the other DTs, Ford was the biggest DT on our team last season, and that includes Norton and McIntosh. Ford carries his weight well, he is athletic and he also has a motor. Hopefully, he steps up and plays up to his potential next season.
