Chirinos: Little tidbit from Mark Richt this morning: He said injured Canes DB Malek Young is doing well as he continues recovering from neck surgery, added that Young has told UM staff he'd like to help coach this season and there exists a possibility he may get involved with track team.

I'll just leave this here:

An audited financial statement released by the NCAA on Wednesday showed the governing body of college athletics generated nearly $1.1 billion in revenue during the 2017 fiscal year.

It's from CNN today.

Per PBP: Elsewhere, guard Lonnie Walker was named an All-ACC honorable mention — the first Miami rookie to get a spot on an all-league team — and was named to the all-freshman team. Another freshman, Chris Lykes, finished third in the sixth man of the year poll. Sophomore forward Dewan Huell earned two votes (ninth place) for most improved player.

Sadspace.

So many great bloggers run off.

Go Canes!!

My question for the day is where are all the guys who NEVER post here except to whine like 10 year old girls about the once a month or so spin into politics, moves or whatever during a down time.

You offer nothing except a quarterly or every six month post scolding those who kept this place going.

Now you can put your big boy pants and carry the blog for a while.

Not.

Yet MANY find it absurd to say "Pay the Kids"
Not only that, FORCE them to take money, management, and investment courses
Payment should be in Tiers
Tier 1 Athletes = Highest Paid = Grades = Character
Tier 2 Athletes are basically a step below that
Tier 3 Athletes are basically on their way out or basically not cutting it

Exactly 86. I am more worried about next year and the years to come. I am not sweating this year. Its the classic victory lap. U just roll with the punches. But we need to be ready for great improvements in the coming years and I personanly would give our HCIW one year to show me something if its not improved national coaching search would be in full effect. BTW we need the AD and Athletic Program to improve the Light! He has seen better days.

Looks like Derrick Smith has made the move to LB. I like the move a lot. It was only a matter of time for the switch.

The Miami Hurricanes fell to crosstown foe FIU Wednesday, dropping a close midweek affair, 5-3, at FIU Baseball Stadium.

Miami (5-7) erased an early 3-0 deficit by the middle innings, but a sixth-inning sacrifice fly proved the difference for the Panthers.

Freshman Freddy Zamora continued his hot streak at the plate with his fourth straight multi-hit performance (2-for-3). He also reached on a walk and extended his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Senior lefthander Michael Mediavilla struck out a season-high eight batters and walked two in 4.1 innings. Outside of the two early Panther home runs, Mediavilla allowed just one hit.

Key 18th-hole birdies from junior Dewi Weber and sophomore Renate Grimstad secured the University of Miami golf team the Hurricane Invitational title on the final day at the Biltmore Golf Course Wednesday afternoon.

Despite trailing late in the day, No. 24 Hurricanes won their third title this spring after shooting a final round of 292 and a tournament total of 866. Miami held on to its three-stroke lead over Oklahoma going into the final day after the 16th-ranked Sooners shot a 292 final round. OU completed the tournament with a score of 869, besting Coastal Carolina (290 on the day) by one stroke.

"It was a wish come true today that we win our third out of four tournaments," said Miami head coach Patti Rizzo, who has now led the program to 42 top-five finishes since taking over in 2010. "When you are a coach, you always ask yourself, 'When is it going to be my turn? When are things going to go my way? When is my team going to get it together?' So far, it has been great."

86Cane

As snow blanketed the Big Apple Wednesday, the Hurricanes managed to put up shots on both sides of the East River as they continued preparations for the 2018 ACC Tournament.

Miami had a shoot-around at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in the morning before heading back to Manhattan for a late breakfast and another practice session.

That's when New York's latest snowstorm hit, forcing the Hurricanes to call an audible. The prep school where they held practice yesterday closed due to the storm so the team instead trekked a few miles to the Boys & Girls Republic in East Village.

Back in Brooklyn, the tournament itself tipped off in earnest today with four second-round matchups. The Hurricanes are the third seed this year, which means they don't play until approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Vernon Carey Jr.

TonyCane

Vernon Carey is projected to be the 2nd pick in the 2020 NBA draft!

Terrance Sullivan

Oh So nemo one of these Part Time Canes Fans. Thats so cute.

Terrance Sullivan

As it realets to the Carey's What The Freak Ever. just say you want to go to one of the blue bloods and dont want to come to Miami. U aint got to lie to kick it. Its nothing personal. Keep it moving pimpin. The 40 minutes of L hurricane keeps going. Get the guys who want to come here develop them and keep it moving. Some people are so wrapped up in the keep them home basura. Get the players that fit your system and works here. I dont care if they are from Miami or Minneapolis, Los Angeles or Boston, U get my drift.

RCCF

Serious Questions....

1. Why didn't RJ compete in the NFL Combine?
2. Why did he and Norton really leave being as $$ doesn't seem to be either of their issue? Didn't really pick up on the fact that Norton is Ken Norton son (rich) and McIntosh well just doesn't come off as $$ struck either as his decision was based on Norton's decision. Just at work kind of wondering why they'd make this bad of a decision when the Clemson front 4 Truly Beasted Them in Season comparison and they stayed.

Terrance Sullivan

Plenty of dudes left school to enter the draft. Its more dudes that left from the draft from several schools then that stayed like the Clemson dudes did. I understand the point being made and I would have liked for them to have stayed that being said I wish them the best and appreciated their service to the U. Next men up. I have bigger issues with highly rated guys who came here and didnt do jack squat here at the U either never played a game or played sparingly and got either kicked out, flunked out, or transferred out. To me thats a much worse problem. Great questions though RCCf. We probably will never know. I think guys think If I can make it to a second contract. and tehy want to minimize the number of hits they get in college is my guess however I could be very wrong. Just a shot in the dark.

If he leaves this post up without editing it (like a MAN that can take criticism), I'll think about a come back and will agree not to comment about politics, even though I didnt start the conversation.

Ain’t much to talk about, since the baseball team sucks again. Morris time has run it’s course. Has done a lot of good things and won some ships but that was like yesteryear. Really need a dam hitting coach. No way we should be 5-6.
I agree, this is a sports blog first and I too hate it when bloggers go off on a tangent and just won’t stop. Maybe one day out of the month, during down time, it would be ok to vent but that’s it!

86Cane

So...Go Canes and TD go start your own blog.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Let me be clear Tom, I respect you, even if we disagree politically. I see what you have to put up with from some posts, and sometimes its a f*cking avalanche of negativity around here. 95% I am being a good soldier, but there are times for a timeout, or a post deletion, I get that. Hell, Ive told you many times just to post "shut up" at me, and you have, and I have complied. Ijs Go Canes turnabout is fair game now that it's you feeling some kind of way seemingly we should care now lol.... that's rich!

TonyCane

I'm not certain how the 2018 season will go - there is a lot of youth and a lot of variables (QB) - but I am confident of one thing.

One year from now, during the 2019 offseason, we will be talking about a Hurricanes football team that is a legitimate national title contender threat. That is probably the first time that any of us could feel that since the 2009 offseason, and this would probably be the first time the talent and coaching are truly at that level since 2003.

Terrance Sullivan

Lol hahaha we didn't have a National Championship Title contending team in 2009. With Randy Shannon at the helm that's beyond laughable. Just like we didn't have a National Championship Title contending team in 2013 with Al Golden. Both of them dudes didn't have it. Please don't ever say that bull crap again. Love you man but that's beyond laugh

Terrance Sullivan

Tonycane love you man but stop it with the Randy Shannon love affair and excuses he was mediocre at best like Al Golden nothing special.

86Cane

I come to the blog to talk about sports, maybe laugh a little and have fun. I have 6-10 real friends from the blog that go to games and events and that alone has made it worthwhile.

However, I do not come to the blog to be constantly pissed off by other people hijacking it for their own selfish reasons and personal agendas. And they do so even when they know it is wrong in general terms and they do so intentionally even after repeated warnings and discussions about it. When you intentionally act stupidly and do things to piss off the blog owner then you get what you get.

There are hundreds of bloggers who follow the rules and never violate the Canespace Code and have never made me angry. Then there are those who repeatedly find themselves above the code and choose to violate the code and post the same nonsense they got blasted for over and over again. They simply cannot help themselves due to their misguided and self-righteous sense of entitlement.

I am not going to give up my money, time and effort simply to provide a forum for people to post their liberal political agendas because they are obsessed with being right or can't get over the results of an election. Those people piss me off and I do not need to pay for that with my money, time and efforts.

To be honest, I am blogged out and have no time for any of this. My work schedule is demanding and my personal life suffers because of it. I carried the ball and carried the weight of running this blog and planning events (that almost nobody goes to) for 10 years now.

It is time for somebody else to carry the load. As I said, let somebody else start their own blog, call it something different, and post the link here. We can all go to the new blog and I will shut down Canespace.

When you have 10 years of hard work and dedication under your belt and still can't get the respect and appreciation of some of the bloggers out there because they want to make the blog all about them and not sports, then you can shut it down too and the next young buck can take over with a smooth transition just like this time. Three days. Who will step up to the plate?

Just try to remember this: If a few people would have just followed the Canespace Code we would not be here in the first place.

GC I dont read HRD's off topic drivel, he lost me when he called my beloved State of Alabama a third world country because kids get ground itch (screw worms)which all barefoot kids in the south get if they walk around where dogs shit.
As an Alabama taxpayer, home and property owner whose great great great grandparents kids walked Bamas beautiful soil and suffered [LOL] with ground itch it pisses me off when a know it all from Idaho insists he knows more about my ancestral homeland than I do but it was off topic so I let it go.
So no GC I don't know and I don't care if HRD got his feelings hurt because Tom took his ball and went home and changed the name from Spalding to Wilson.
We have lost many great bloggers over political squabbles.
HRD is a great blogger but hes always gotta be right even when he's dead wrong.

I say GC and HRD need to do what I did when I
got my feelings hurt....fuggitaboutit and BLOG ON!!!

TonyCane

Terrance, I agree (and I meant spring 2010) But go back and look at canespace during that time and you will see a lot of optimism here. We had just had a 9 win season and there was no reason (apart for Jacory’s health) to think that we wouldn’t improve on it. The reality of course was different...but spring 2010 was probably the most optimist time going into a season that I have seen.

TonyCane

Most optimistic that I have seen since Canespace started, I mean.

Terrance Sullivan

I feel you Tonycane I stand corrected Brotha.

Terrance Sullivan

Preach Native Cane.

Terrance Sullivan

86 Thank U for your everything. With or without Canespace Blog hopefully with. We will continue to keep the Canespace Family going. With attending games, road trips, and fun events and great times.

TonyCane

86...the irony is...for the first time since this blogs foundation we have a legitimate, main event coaching staff, recruiting, and a window that is beginning to open to NC contention again. Think about how we felt when the Canes were ranked #2 in November...this blog was intended for moments like this. And there are many more of those moments to come in the next few years. Having this blog open has been somewhat of a support during the days the Fall of Coker, when UM went cheap when filling out Randy’s staff, to the Shapiro fallacy, and the prevent defenses in goal line situations. Now that is finally behind us...when we finally get back to the point of where we can celebrate the Canes as champions potentially...and this blog potentially goes away.

Whether it is this blog or a new one...it is almost impossible to avoid politics. Especially now, when everything from entertainment to football is divided into hard lines of right and left. A quick glance at Facebook proves it. My recommendation - especially in the light of a national event having taken place in S Florida - is to let it go. Let the people vent. Let them argue. Let them embarrass themselves if they do choose. The rest of us can focus on the restoration of this program...and be there for each other when a non political event like a hurricane blows through (I thought that was one of this sites finer hours).

NativeCane

Yeah Tony the Canespace family has been through alot watching the Canes crash in super slow mo and now rise from the ashes.
I always figured we would be here to celebrate together when the Miami Hurricanes defeat Bama or Clemson or Georgia or FSU for the National Championship in 2020.

TonyCane

Here is the thing though 86. I for one have never posted a political comment here first. However I respond if I see something that I have a counter too. It so happens much of what I say you disagree with. Which is cool. I have great friends on the total opposite political spectrum as me. However you have told me to go to hell for a politcal comment responding to a topic you brought up in the first place. I am thinking of specifically when that Nunes memo crap came up. You got pissed at people for political discussion but 86 you brought it up with excitement because you thought it was a vindication and supported your point of view. Then shut the blog down and named me as a reason when I hadn't made any form of comment in weeks.

Here is the thing, I appreciate that Canespace is a labor of love for you. I have thanked you for it before and do so again now. However as someone who appreciates what you have done I would say you can't let it stress you out. Literally no comment on anything should piss you off for more than a moment, if that much at all.

Back to the Canes stuff. The Carey situation sucks but it's not over yet. Which is why I do rant about the NCAA so much. I know two kids who got caught up in the media with this NCAA crap. One to the point where I was having drinks with his dad when the stories broke in the media even though he had alread been cleared long before. It's hypocrisy and BS and hurts these players, schools and programs. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI looks at the NCAA for fraud one day.

86Cane

If nobody steps up to the plate, I will try to keep it going until the 2020 season and the next 'Ship.

But I would rather that someone with new energy and fresh blood take over.

Put simply, Richt HAS TO succeed and get us back to the promised land. The alternative is simply too much to bare.

86Cane

HillView...fair enough, point taken.

But that comment was in response to 100 comments by Epi and you and others who had the whole thing twisted from the beginning. Hell Epi posted 8 paragraph comments for weeks about it before I blew my gasket. That's the last I will say about the issue. Let's move on.
