Go Canes!!

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | April 15, 2018 at 07:12 PM

Searels wasn't hired until Jnuary of 2016 so saying he's had three recruiting classes is really a stretch.

You are really going to count 2016 against him when his first day was less than 30 days before national signing day?

The guy has had two real recruiting classes including this one. Part of that second one is still in high school and not even on campus yet.

So he didn't have success against Clemson, the team with four to six potential first rounders on it's front four and Wisconsin's monster front seven that were ALL juniors and seniors, some of them redshirts.

Come on with the D grades.

And Lmao at this site's owner's condescending mocking. This is the same guy who wanted to fire Hartley and Dugans not long ago.

This o-line was a disaster when CMR took over. What the hell is the guy supposed to do other than recruit and build up talent?

Wait, let me guess. Stop making excuses and coach em' up!!

AeroCane

Spring game - fun and fairly meaningless!

1. Hartley gets a pass for recruiting, but special teams suck badly. Dugans gets a pass for recruiting and is a good coach. Searles does not get a pass, he has done nothing.

2. OL was not a disaster, granted it was not good but FAR from a no talent disaster. It is the new coach's job to fix it.

3. I think you finally may be coming around?

Go Canes!!

This o-line was a disaster. Chronically injured Nick Linder, Alex Gall, previously injured MCDermott and a three deep of busts and transfers.

We had to rebuild that position from scratch.

You know that Co.

His Royal Dudeness

First off great blogging today...

Good points by many...

Go,

Do I count year one? Not the same way for sure. But I do think 2019 is now at a critical point for offensive tackles. Much as CB was while we waited for Rumph to figure out how to get numbers. Failing to get even a single OT in year 2 though is almost unforgiveable, youd have to be one hell of a coach em up guy, which so far under Searels has been meh. That leads to your second question. Do I think the OL was a disaster? No, but it wasnt great though either, we needed tackles the day Searels walked on campus. I feel like McDermott and Darling both regressed under him, and if its possible, they seemed to get weaker. No unit on this team has been more pushed around or out of synch. Theyve been downright bullied by inferior competition. Searels is in time to show me something mode, much the same way Rumph was and then he showed me something. Maybe D was unfair, maybe C-, but we are just splitting hairs on that grade. Im not saying fire him right now, but hes gonna have a tough year if he doesnt do his job and start getting this OL unit in synch and it wont get any better unless he starts recruiting some tackles.

Old Skool

Bye Bye Brandon.
2019 OT Brandon Cunningham flips to Miss State.
Grades the issue.
Nonetheless another OT gone.

mark weaver

The word tackle is a disease for the U. Whether it be offensive or defensive. We just struggle to find and Keep good ones. It's sad when u have 15 O-Linemen and U can't find 2 good ones to play tackle! We just can't seem to put it all together with our recruiting classes. We always have a position or 2 that we fall short at. Cunningham decomitted to Miss. St. He was supposed to be OT for the class of 19. Richt is a little short on the top notch recruiters. Dugan's is good but I still say that the WR are not as good as route runners as they should be. Rumph is ok but he just don't have the it guy.
Lb is another position they need to watch very carefully. We need to bring in a couple top notch LB'S, or it could soon be a position of average players. we are ok for this year but if a couple leave early, we will be hurting. Searles has this year but if they struggle in 2018, he should be gone!

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: mark weaver | April 16, 2018 at 02:30 PM

OT: Miami's biggest problem
DT: A pretty good patchwork job
LB: Secretly getting deeper
CB: Finally got the class we needed for numbers

His Royal Dudeness

The key for Miami now is to keep throwing talent at the problem. WR is finally where we need it to be, so is RB, but even 1 year of a bad class can put you in a tough spot, like if 1 of the TEs transfer... trouble. OT is critical level danger right now. If 1 DT or DE transfers Miami goes critical there also.

His Royal Dudeness

It is my belief that the staff fully understands every thing I am saying and they will do their best to fix it. 2019 needs to be a masterpiece class, so that in 2020, we can make a championship run.

His Royal Dudeness

No less than 3 True tackles in 2019. 1 of them at the very least will have to play, maybe 2 if Donaldson doesnt fit at tackle. Id take as many as 5 true offensive tackles if I could, plus another 2 guards, lol.

2 or 3 OTs that can play, and another 2 to redshirt. All of them 6'5"+ with long arms and athleticism.

Herbieibis

Yeah the LB's are getting deeper but quality is what I'm talking about, if a couple leave.

His Royal Dudeness

Posted by: Herbieibis | April 16, 2018 at 05:06 PM

I agree the stars arent there, but I think theres a bunch of sneaky good players maturing and they didnt have to start day 1 like the guys we have now. That said, theres a huge difference between a 3 star and a 5 star LB and youre right, getting those guys is the next step to take. At the very least though, the numbers have been getting met there. Time to start bringing in the cream of South Florida's crop.

Old Skool

In other news, Laranaga signs two transfer in the past two days.

BigWindyCane1

Wyoming G Anthony Mack has committed to transfer to the University of Miami. Mack played high school basketball with Dang Gak, and will have four years of eligibility. The Canes will seek a waiver from the NCAA so Mack can play this upcoming season

BigWindyCane1

Oklahoma guard Kameron McGusty also announced he will transfer to join the Canes.

McGusty, a 6-foot-5, 192-pound scorer, will sit out this year to satisfy NCAA rules but will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2019-20.

The Canes lose guards Bruce Brown and Lonnie Walker to the NBA, but return three guards from last year’s team: sophomore-to-be Chris Lykes, junior D.J. Vasiljevic and redshirt sophomore Miles Wilson, who sat out last year after transferring from Mount St. Mary’s.

So next season, it’s Mack, Lykes, Vasilijevic and WILSON in the rotation. The Canes are also pursuing grad transfer, Florida Gulf Coast guard Zach Johnson. Johnson played at Norland high school with Dewan Huell. He is also considering Creighton, Louisville and Arizona. Johnson would be a great pickup too.

These transfers seem to fit Coach L’s style. I think the Canes can have another good season

Micheal Pinckney 3 Star?

Stars matter but everyone knows Florida kids are far superior than their national rank says they are.

How do Pinckney and Garvin get three stars? SMH

I saw Pinkney in a high school get about 12-15 tackles in a state championship game against booker T. Garvin was killing PBC with sacks, even after being double teamed.

If any of you have seen Pinkney in a Canes uniform live, you can see that his athleticism and talent really stands out. Garvin reminds me a Charles Haley in terms of being effective

thirstybuzzardcane

Did we ever get that OL transfer from Tennessee? I believe he's a guard though.

thirstybuzzardcane

I think we to start recruiting bigger TE's and groom them for tackle position.

Go Canes!!

You guys were right, Searels does suck. He couldn’t get Donaldson to stop Garvin and Jackson the very first time he practiced at tackle.

———————————————-

http://caneswatch.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2018/04/17/mark-richt-actually-miami-hurricanes-offense-isnt-way-behind/

The key to the line may be Donaldson, who on Tuesday ran through his third full-padded practice as a right tackle. Richt on Saturday bemoaned the lack of offensive tackles on his roster, and while Donaldson was an ESPN freshman All-American at right guard last season, he’ll have to be a credible edge blocker if Miami is to have success. Richt said despite Donaldson’s inexperience at the spot, he’s seen enough from the big man (6-foot-6, 350 pounds) to warrant a long look.

“He’s really only practiced twice at that position, one being Saturday and one being Tuesday. On Thursday we went in shorts. Then we played the game,” Richt said. “The big thing for him is, he looks re-energized to play that position. That’s where he wants to be. He’s excited about it. He’s working hard toward it.”

Herbieibis

Ain't no sense in bemoaning the lack of talent at the tackle position, you could of addressed it the last 2 recruiting cycles.
3 stars are like a C, in the classroom. Doesn't mean that he isn't good. Some days he plays like a 5 star and sometimes a 4 star and other times a 3. It's the consistency, where u bring it every game. Nobody is going to play at an elite level for 12 games.

CGNC

Spring game was fun. Jarren Williams looks like he has the potential to be a Tyrod Taylor - saw him buy time and throw on the run perfectly a couple of times. Great to see nice Freshman play by Frierson on D and Hightower on O and Lingard too.

Ran into Canefreak which is always a plus.

Different scenarios... we lost ONE game that we should not have lost... Clemson and Wisconsin was better sorry. Plus without your 3 top offensive weapons? The defense was worse than Rosier those games... those QB's had field day's against us!

So let me get this straight... without Richards,Walton, Herndon, and the defense playing bad Rosier was supposed to win single handedly???

When Rosier was named starter fans said we would go 6-6 to 8-4 with no hopes of a ACCCG appearance. All he did was over achieve and fans HATE him?

I'd be surprised if Weldon transfers. Terminal pink-eye is a rather bizarre condition/excuse, but, to my knowledge his dad had a great relationship with CMR and trusts him completely. That's assuming the son has that same kind of relationship. Plus, CMR was the reason, the FSU legacy came here.

If Weldon has NO CHANCE of playing as WWIN suggests then he will most definitely transfer to Memphis, UCF, USF, FAU or somewhere like that.

I say 'cool' and go about my business but we conyinue chatting and he says he hated the OL coach but to this day his favorite coach and person was MR! He also said in his opinion that MR was the best coach on those Nole teams. Then of course I tell him the good news that I'm a Cane fan!

Terrance Sullivan

Outstanding AeroCane.

CoCane

After seeing all 3 QB's live in the spring game. The only way Richt could already be planning for Nosier to be the starter, is if he's a monumental idiot...

Rosier has the experience. Which is a big factor but he's still not accurate or athletic enough to have job locked before fall camp...

Perry has the flare and elite athleticism that can't be taught. If he gets more consistent and confident by fall camp he'll start. He does things that the other 2 can't.

Williams is the smoothest passer of the 3. More athletic than Rosier but not on Perry's level. If the other 2 don't step up, I can see him winning the job. He has to be a quick study though.

I can't wait to see which one emerges...

Facts CoCane that's why I predict JW will be the Starter by Duke Game on November 3rd unless Richt is on that BS. I think obviously Rosier starts the LSU Game with Perry getting some packages and those two battling it out the first few games and I expect JW to get reps against SS, Toledo,FIU,and then we will see from there now if Rosier or Perry holds off JW then that means they have stepped their game up big time and if that happens I will be cool with that if not put JW in and let him roll with it. I am expecting us to have a 14 game season meaning our regular 12game season, ACCCG, and OB game.

Me too. I've had a suspicion that JW is impressing more than the staff is letting on, and will end up the starter before the end of the season.

If I were Richt, I would be tempted to name Rozier the starter and Perry the backup to start the season, only to make certain neither of them transfer before the start of the season.

Posted by: WWIN | April 18, 2018 at 11:14 PM

You are right, and wrong...

Unless I am mistaken, he has to sit out a year if he transfers. IMO, Weldon should try to graduate first at Miami, you never know there could be injuries, and then transfer at the end of the year to a program that needs him to come in and start. But overall yes, if Weldon doesnt beat out Perry for the back up spot, he should transfer, heck Id encourage it as his coach.

His Royal Dudeness

Am I the only one less concerned about QB than OL? I'll take 3rd & 1 with Rosier over 3rd and 11 with Elway all day. Besides all that, Id be very happy with another 10 win season, a Coastal championship, and another killer recruiting class.

WWIN

That is all.

CoCane

Richards, Walton and Herndon playing in the bowl game wouldn't have miraculously made Nosier throw strait. He just would've missed them too...

The defense did suck the 2 games. It still don't mean Nosier didn't suck.

Of course Nosier is the starter. He hasn't been beaten out.

That doesn't mean he can't be beaten out this fall.

If Nosier starts this year, Perry sucks too...

I just hope whoever starts is better than Nosier was last season...

CoCane

HRD,

I’m not saying Rosier won’t be the starter, I said I don’t believe for one second there isn’t an open competition for the job. The bar at QB is so low there’s no reason for there not to be.

Old Skool

I have no idea what kind of person Weldon is but as far as quarterbacks always transferring if they don't get playing time. I seem to remember there was a decent QB who wound up riding the pine behind Jim Kelly. Obviously, an old time exception to what seems to be a modern day rule.

See excerpts from this article:

"If it seems like high-profile quarterback recruits transfer at an unusually high rate, well, it’s because they do. Using 247Sports’ composite rankings, FOX Sports researched the careers of every Top 50 quarterback recruit that signed from 2011-14.

TOP 50 QB RECRUITS, 2011-14
Stars Transferred Started early* Stayed anyway
4/5-star 46.9 % 33.3 % 28.1 %
3-star 52.9 % 12.5 % 33.7 %
TOTAL 50 % 22.5 % 31 %

Top 50 based on 247Sports Composite rankings
* — started early = first or second season of eligibility

Numbers don’t add up to 100 % because some early starters also transferred.

Exactly half — 100 of 200 — transferred from their original school.

Which means there’s a 1-in-2 chance Gatorade Player of the Year Tate Martell will leave Ohio State roughly halfway through his time there. It’s 50-50 whether five-star Texas A&M early enrollee Kellen Mond finishes his career in College Station. (Aggies fans are conditioned at this point to seeing touted quarterbacks transfer.)

It didn’t used to be this way.

Go back 15 years to 2002, when future Texas star Vince Young sat atop the recruiting rankings. Of the 24 quarterbacks to earn composite four- or five-star ratings, all but five finished their careers at the school they signed with out of high school. Only a few (Young, Ohio State’s Troy Smith, Michigan State’s Drew Stanton) emerged as stars. Far more waited their turn and started eventually, or, in a few cases, changed positions or joined the baseball team."

Go Canes!!

He didn't have a bad game in the bowl game tho and it would have helped. Defense was a lot more worse than him last 2 games

He went 11-26 with 3 INTs

You’re right, that’s not bad. It’s putrid.

Why worry about stuff happening during the spring. All smoke and mirrors. Rosy is what he is bad average. He'll hang himself, eventually.

Those 3 INT's weren't on him just like your head coach CMR said... so that puts him at a potential 14-26... plus they had 3 drops so that puts him at 17-26 65%... which isn't bad like I said.

But the defense on the other hand... 17 CONSECUTIVE PASSES in a row to a freshman???
