Went by the Canes camp for rising 11th and 12th graders today. I understand that some recruits got offers, and were invited back for Paradise camp.

Boy, some of the Canes look huge. Hightower is big, and Langham looks like a TE. Coach Dugans was working. Dugans knows his craft. That’s a good coach. I also like Coach Simpson. Nice southern accent, and knows his sh—-#@. I think he will be a defensive coordinator some day.

Saw some of the incoming freshmen, and they are all big, long and athletic. As a whole, they are longer and more athletic looking than the seniors. We will see if they can play, but the early signs are promising. Saw Trajan Bandy out there. What a good kid, with a great heart. Bandy Went to COLUMBUS high school, and Richmond Heights Middle before that. A tale of two (contrasting) cites. I like Bandy a lot.

Killian Cougar in the House! Killian produces big time players who make big time plays.

I saw Jaquan Johnson out there. Saw him play in high school a few times. One of the best defensive players and leaders I saw. Great Cougar .

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

I heard that the Canes Coaches offered some recruits, but not the same recruits that the websites are reporting on. For example, One of the QB recruits listed as a standout on one recruiting websites didn’t get an offer, but three recruits at the same position who weren’t mentioned did get offers.

Canes flipped a top CB from Chaminade this weekend.

Believe he was previously committed to Michigan.

Te'Cory Couch is his name. A consensus 4* CB

The Canes had some pretty good recruits out there on Saturday. Very high level! At times, it got a little disorganized, but I was very impressed with the talent I saw perform. Most of the talent was from South Florida tri-county area, but I saw contingents from North Florida and Central Florida.

I heard from a parent that a specific rising 12th grade recruit who was being hyped on recruiting websites did not get an offer, while a few recruits at that same position that the websites did not talk about did get offers and/or invites to Paradise Camp. The offers were given by the position coach based on performance in a workout at camp. If true, this means that the coaches are focused on their own evaluations, and that is a good thing.

Overall, I think this is going to be a special year. The Canes players look very, very good. Felder is doing major work.

Go - it doesn't matter our ranking and most on this site thought we did get a good DB contingent BUT it doesn't change the fact that we lost out on 5 star stars that were in our own backyard!

Very cool footage there, Tom.

Damn, drones, steadicam and auto iris have transformed real estate videos. Of course, that means no more hanging out the windows of helicopters to get good aerial shots. And I'm sure good helicopter pilots are cursing the advent of the drone, but oh well, technology moves on.

You should get a lot of sales with that

Palm Beach County? He plays in the Treasure Coast (my neck of the woods). He was at John Carroll for 3 years.

The only thing that concerns me about John Carroll is the competition they played. It's a small private Catholic school.

I guess he transferred to to Vero to play with the big boys.

I know you and Kevin Nelson’s mom are super tight on Facebook, but maybe she’s wrong about the no comp at Alabama thing.

That school has had more 5 Star players transfer than we’ve signed this decade and has had far, far, far more 1st round DBs than we’ve had.

Honestly, so your even hear yourself?

TonyCane

Surtain made in some respects the easy choice. He went to the program that mathematically has the highest chance of winning a national title and gaining for himself the most NFL exposure. Ask yourself...how many kids would not want to play on a stacked team? To have the corner opposite of you to also be a 5 star player?

Its harder to build a program up into a NC contender. There are more risks involved for each player who commits, and the higher ranked you are individually the more that the risk exponentially the weaker the team that they look at. If Surtain were to have signed with Kansas for instance, he would have maximum risk. While he would be virtually guaranteed a starting spot, his exposure to national audiences would be minimal and teams would simply avoid throwing towards him. That would damage his stats further.

I disagree with the fear of competition. There are no guaranteed spots there, just as it was with Miami. They cycle through a lot of talent.

BigWindyCane1

I think each coach has his own style. Jess Simpson seems to be identifying his kind of player and getting them committed. That is good news, but that also means that he has to do a good job of developing that talent. I saw him working at the camp, and he seems to really know his stuff. DLs seem to like him.

Rumph seems more authoritarian to me. I don't know all the details, but he seemed focused on order and discipline. Donk really knows his stuff.

Donk was coaching everyone, and he always had something constructive to share with the recruits. I see why high-level recruits want to play for him. Donk knows his stuff.

From watching everything, I think Jon Richt is the QB coach and recruiter. Jon Richt is the one that identifies recruits and offers them. I think he has a good idea of what he wants in a QB.

I heard that each coach extended offers to a select few at the end of the camp. It seems that many of the offers were based on their performance at camp. I also heard a few high-level recruits did not get offers.

I saw the new Indoor Practice Facility. It is really progressing. It might be ready for the fall camp or at least the start of football season. It looks taller than the Clemson and FSU IPFs, and it is part of a larger Sports complex next to the Knight Center, the track, the outdoor practice area and a few other sports-related buildings. Recruits will love it.

I think the U is coming back twenty-first-century style.

Go Canes!!

Bama has about eight 4-5 Star CBs enrolled or committed I’ve their last four classes. Not counting guys who are rated as athletes.

Over there he’s just another top shelf recruit on a roster that has about 70 of them. And every year they’re signing another couple of Top 5 rated guys who play the position.

They’ve had about 25 4/5 Star guys transfer in the last five years. The whole notion of him going there because he wa afraid of comp is so preposterous it’s actially funny.

That program is a dog eat dog organization from the top down. Put up or move on.

Herbieibis

And there in lies the problem, while Bama is stacking tons of 4 and 5 star players and playing for ships every year we are celebrating under the radar 3 star guys and hoping we can develop them into top notch players. Got to have these type players for depth, but this class, so far has way to many question marks than answers and that is what u get with a bunch of 3's.

RCCF

Yea that's what it is GoCanes!!

In 45 minutes the NBA draft gets underway. We could have 2 Canes go in the first round. That's something I would have never expected just a couple of years ago.

Here's a quick look at where the Hurricane class was at at this point each year, eight months before the signing class. This does not take into account players who committed by June 21st prior to NSD, but then decommitted and went elsewhere (like Bridgewater):

2008 Class:
June: 5 four stars, 3 three stars, 2 two stars

2009 Class:
June: 3 four stars, 2 three stars, 1 two stars

2010 Class:
June: 1 four stars, 6 three stars

2011 Class:
June: 0 four stars, 1 three stars

2012 Class:
June: 2 five stars, 4 four stars, 9 three stars

2013 Class:
June: 1 four stars, 3 three stars

2014 Class:
June: 3 four stars, 3 three stars

2015 Class:
June: 2 four stars, 5 three stars

2016 Class:
June: 5 four stars, 3 three stars

2017 Class:
June: 2 four stars, 6 three stars

2018 Class:
June: 2 five stars, 11 four stars, 2 three stars

2019 Class:
June: 7 four stars, 9 three stars
