The phrase conjures up an image of the infamous meltdown scene from the movie "Jerry Maguire". Tom Cruise melting down in front of his former employees, running around the office taking the company goldfish, and disembarking on an adventure that returned him to top form while learning valuable life lessons. For some reason I think of this phrase when I reflect on this first phase of the Randy Shannon regime.
When we look at the answer to the question: Who is coming with me?" we have seen that the answer, at least in terms of new recruits, is a resounding ME!!! This is evidenced by the amount of early commits from some of S. Florida's top recruits. Since Shannon's hiring the Hurricanes have had one QB sign (Robert Marve) and have also secured two QB commitments (Taylor Cook and Jacory Harris) to the '08 class.
It seems like the local kids respect Randy Shannon and his integrity. Honestly, what's not to like about Coach Randy Shannon. You've read the stories about how he grew up, how he overcame situations and persevered. He's got the rings (as a player and coach), NFL experience(as a player and coach), and now he's calling the shots at the most recognized college football program in the nation. He will "Show us the Money" when this thing is through. So I have to ask U?
ARE YOU COMING WITH ME?

G-POnd,
The CANE experience is not like any other in college football. When the game is on it seems like everyone of our hearts are in it.I even hurry up on Saturday afternoon to catch them if I am working. Someone once told me that they don't even turn the TV when commercials are on fearing that they might miss a play. Miami Football is worse then CRACK, COCANE, and WEED it is very ADDICTIVE. The U unites everyone from different backgrounds and cities. Once a CANE always a CANE!! PEACE!!

So what nick will Keven Lerner use over here on the real Cane blog?
And yes it's OK to peek at TOS.
It's like riding by your x girls house to see how much weight she's gained and who is parked out front.
Just remember where the site that's 100% run by real cane fans is. www.canespace

A huge aspect of HS ranking that hasn't been mentioned is how much kids grow and how their bodies develop at different times. A lot of 4 and 5 star guys have developed early and so been able to dominate at the HS level long enough to get on someone's radar and get some pub. A lot of kids develop late or keep growing. Or don't grow into having any coordination until they're 18-19. These kids are those 3 star types that become college stars. I think a lot of 5 star guys are either already maxed out physically or close to it. Combine that with the superstar treatment and you get a guy that doesn't realize he has to work hard to make it until it's too late for him. However, your ave 3 star guy has the talent to play Div 1 AND knows how hard he's got to work b/c he's got that "I'm not a 5 star" chip on his shoulder. The very best guys are the VERY few and far between 4-5 star types who keep developing AND practice/work-out/study/play with a 3 star's chip.

Mr.Troutman i know what you mean i use to get up early on sunday mornings back in 81 when i stationed overseas like around 7 oclock on a sunday morning before they posted the college scores from saturdays games ,i had to wait until about 8 ,so i went jogging so now one saw me waiting ,this after drinking the night before, man did i had it bad.
Posted by: G-Pond | June 21, 2007 at 06:34 PM
Dtc ,well said ,makes sense to me i didnt develop until i was about 20 all the way ,i knew some kids who couldnt stand on their own without falling all over people, man we were clumsey back then ,then again the stuff thats in food these days, what i would have given to be 6ft4 and 225 instead of 6ft4 190 and skinny back then.

I believe RS when he says we are only taking two QB's in this class. He doesn't come off to me as one who talks out of his azz. IMO thats why Harris jumped on board so quick.
Meph I appologize in advance for my foul language!! I just can't help it. It's how I express myself. Too much time in New Yawk!!!
As for LB's coming in. Spence, Futch, Robinson are locks. The 4th and final one is up in the air. I think Brown and Sabino go elsewhere.
And by the way IMO none of these kids move to safety. The speed just isn't there. And remember alot of the height and weight numbers are from their junior years. So a 190lb 16 yr old junior can show up at the U 20-25 lb's heavier.
Spence is a playmaking missle at any weight. Just get him out there and he finds the ball.
GO CANEZ!!!!!

Plus, wait until you see the chicks that will be hanging out at the Canespace tailgate parties at the OB next year. You will NOT want to have a girlfriend then anyway... ;)

just saw some info on ESPN (nfl network is acting funny on my digital cable box). joe schad predicts kyle to be the starter. said nix told him he thinks he can get kyle to play up to his potential. so schad said if he makes better decisions he'll be starter. the first thing i thought was, i wonder if he even spoke to nix. 2nd was, what else would nix say? of course he thinks he can get the most out of kyle, probably would say the same about kirby. and IF kyle makes better decisions shit I'd be happy to have him starting, but that's a big if still (for both QBs really - although i'm optimistic of course).

any coach who gets a talented guy who hasn't been successful says that. why do MLB teams trade for that super prospect with an ERA of 5. everybody thinks they can "tweak" their mechanics or put them in a better system
if the oline gives him time, if our offense is more creative than the lead draw wright will look better

gentlemen, great work....
and 86 cane, it will not take anyone getting any interviews, the SS blog is toast, and it is OVER.
It showed with the latest post, and a BB recruit. That showed they couldnt give 2 s**ts about the base, the Legion. If they did, the new fuy would have started off with an intro about himself blog, and what his plans were, his vision.
Thier arrgance, has cost them bigtime, but from me, a big thanks for taking the monster O created off of life support it was on, and in fact, maybe taking it up a notch. You guys should be proud if what you have accomplished already, and Omar should be tahnkful nobody let the monster he birthed and fed die.

now....about the LBs...
acciording to some, we have not had any LBs with talent for some 3-4 years.....
I say that is BS. The issue is this....we have had NO stud DTs to keep the OL off the LBs since Vince Wilfork, and since Vilma and DJ, no "stud" LBs....
Beason was a 1st rounder, wasnt spectaculor in college, Mcintosh sat the pine, yet both might be starters next year in the NFL.
I know we have been short on QB recruiting last few years, but DT is just as big of an emergency in my book. It is the KEY of the D, and difference of LBs leading the team in tackles, and not safties, as it has been since Wilfork left.
Posted by: phillyscott | June 21, 2007 at 07:34 PM
phillyscott, i agree with that. i gotta also keep it real and say even with jerome brown and warren sapp at DT i don't think Romeo Davis, Glen Cook or Leon Williams were going to be all americans. Having Sharpton at MLB should make a big difference and having Antonio Dixon as a starter and in better shape should make a huge difference - Dixon will be Sharpton's best friend as the year progresses. And I'm still holding out hope that a healthy McCray takes the next step into becoming a consistent playmaker at DT, too.
Posted by: Esteban | June 21, 2007 at 07:44 PM
Anybody know how O linemen Ian Symonette has been progressing..i dont know if ive missed anything on him or not..but that is one big dude..i just hope he becomes a factor this season...DAU4LIFE

symonette needs to keep losing weight and getting in better shape. should turn into something good eventually.

Be back soon...gotta check email. Send ideas, comments and suggestions to host@canespace.com.
Need some feedback on this one:
Do you want to see a new post everyday? Every 3 days days? Once a week?
I like the everyday idea myself but it is a bit labor intensive and some have said that the posts go by too fast. Plus we may run out of ideas at needing 365 a year!
We will be doing DAILY posts through the end of June for sure and then make a decision about which way to go beginning in July.
For the Fans, By the Fans! Tell us what U want...

Also you and I chatted a while back about who you thought was flying to the ball in spring.
You stated Colin Mc was hitting every play.
After seeing the Marley clip again, is C Mc that type of player?

well i'm torn on who'd i choose to be the breakout star of the LBs this year. Part of me says Sharpton, part says McCarthy. And honestly I think they both break out and give us a tandem along the lines of Nate Webster and Dan Morgan when they were here. I wouldn't expect Morgan and Webster type plays that we saw by the time they were 2nd year starters, but more along their first year starting type numbers. So that means lots of tackles and energy, but at times mistakes do to over pursuit and overzealousness. And remember, don't expect JR year type numbers that Webster had from Sharpton and 2nd/3rd year starter type numbers Morgan had. Just try to think back to how each was when they first took over. Exciting young LBs but with a lot to learn.

Toughest Games
I agree with you on the top four games. Especially the road games. I don't know why, but we can't win in Lubbock. At Nebraska and at OU will tough games as well. After the top four they are all very winable games. Miami is going to be tough but I think we will go in there and make a good showing. Winning is a different story.
Posted by: solarcane | June 21, 2007 at 09:12 PM

"86, I talked to the guy in charge of the sports marketing dept. at UM. He said that there is nothing to prevent us from doing interviews so we're safe. I should get an interview this weekend. This is the start of something great."
Now would be the appropriate time to say...I TOLD YOU SO! Watch out boys the wait is over, the party is starting right now!!!

Maybe if ask nicely...what do you think I got nothing to do over here? Bastard! LMAO
Actually, I was tempted to use it as a post thread here, but I will put it on your page at the web site instead. I'll do an official post announcing it here when it is done.
I found something else to post here that is very interesting from the UM Alumni Newsletter that came out yesterday. A little bit on the intellectual side and some pretty heady stuff but it fits nicely here.
Obviously it will be over YOUR head, but most others should get it! We'll see how it flies...

PROJECT UPDATE: BaltoCane is currently doing research for a special feature piece for publication here next Monday on Patrick Nix and what we can anticipate from the new Canes offense titled something like: "Here is How Nix Will Fix It." He's got Nix coming over for coffee and bagels Sunday AM at his place and plans to have a "serious sit down" with him to get things ironed out. At least that's what he tells me...

She will be posting pictures of all her Cane girl friends in scantily clad oufits...get your minds out of the gutter! Jesus...Amen you are here brother! We have big, I mean really B-I-G plans. New blogs DAILY right here and WEEKLY updates at www.canespace.com.
We have Solar writing Pulitzer prize level stuff on a regular basis (so he says!), Este doing analysis that is more in-depth and on target than anything ESPN ever did (yeah I said it!) and Aqua doing on the scene reports as he plans to interview some of the potential recruits from NW this weekend.
OGV just blew the roof off the place with his artcile about the 1983 UM team "Hurricane Out Of Nowhere". We have Lyquid flying across the country trying to chase down former Cane greats like the one he recently followed for three days without ever being detected (or talked to).
Plus we have Balto going deep undercover working as a janitor doing "research" in the Hecht Center sneaking out documents from Nix's office trash can (I think he was just kidding about that?). And, if that ain't enough for you we have and CanesgirlNC ready to shock the world with insider stuff from former Canes greats now playing on Sunday in the NFL for Carolina.
And that's just this week! And did I mention we are only getting started and in our first real week of operation? Well we are...
