Here at Canespace we like to recognize UM players past and present. We pay our repsects to those players who have laid the foundation for the greatness that has followed. Consistent with that effort we are starting a new feature titled: Legion of Honor, where you, the true Cane fans, will select who gets voted into our own version of the "Ring of Honor" that the UM has established and is recognized at the Orange Bowl.
Recently at the College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, several players were inducted, only one was a Miami Hurricane:
''There's not that many Hurricanes in the Hall of Fame,'' Blades said, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow. I want to get people to realize we're not bad people. We've been given a bad rap over all these years, but to know us is to love us.'' Those were the words spoken by Bennie Blades recently (courtesy of Miami Herald). We, the “Legion” at Canespace couldn’t agree more. We have created our own “Legion of Honor” in tribute to players. There are no Big Ten Loving, Pac 10 Dwelling, closed-minded good ol’ boy voters here. Just us, the legion of ‘Canes fans, part of the U Family. Congratulations to Bennie!
We will kick this off by selecting our Legion of Honor players on offense. We will list the players that we think are worthy of making it into the Legion and then narrow it down until we have 4 QBs, 4 RBs, 4 WRs, 2 TEs and 8 OL. Your job is to choose from the players on the list below.
We start at QB. You may vote for four players from the list of 8:
UM QBs nominated for the Legion of Honor:
George Mira
Jim Kelly
Bernie Kosar
Vinny Testaverde
Steve Walsh
Craig Erickson
Gino Toretta
Ken Dorsey
Let's get this party started....

I think Talor Cook will also be among the great ones at the U...in 2009 better than Harris...Marve i am not too sure...Dominant Qb's are getting taller and bigger...plus now they have speed...I like Cook for all of the above...

Practice starts August 4th.
Games start September 1.
Domination starts September 8.
The rest will follow...

The SEC, to me, represents a third-world menatality...30% of the teams are 100 times better than the other 70% of the teams. And that Upper 30% fills their non-conference schedule with 100% non- competitive teams (ONLY EXCEPTIONS: FLORIDA VS, FSU AND GEORGIA VS. GEORGIA TECH). So they end up playing 3 competitive games all year and praised for tough their conference is. OH, PLEASE! The fact is that the SEC has the highest fan base by far. It is the only area in the country where you can work 40 hours a week a spend your weekends in a winnebego outside a football stadium.

Dorsey, Toretta, Testaverde, Walsh. That nearly killed me.

Louis...work on your blog name dude!
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:17 AM
HOOERSLUT; LMFAO! This was on the last blog, but I need to repost it here:
Oh yeah, can't forget! Another day, another top flight recruit committing to The Randy to play for the Hurricanes! Man, The Randy is awesome at this recruiting thing! Wonder why that is? Eh, what did my parents teach me about that gift horse's and their mouths? Forget it. AJ stood by his word and will benefit because of it as will his QB. Now just get those test scores and grades squared away and he'll be ready to rock and roll. Who was it that said Miami players don't commit early again? 40 days till Marshall?

OGV...you gotta die from somethin', it might as well be UM trivia!

What is the public opinion on Brock Berlin?
Posted by: HOOKERSLUT | July 24, 2007 at 02:19 AM
How about Louie, Louie?
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:19 AM
HS...NEGATIVE!
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:20 AM
Brock Berlin is a DNQ = Does NOT qaulify.
So sorry try again...
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:21 AM
Hey Dubois,
Are you blogging from the Basque right now? How's the Tour-de-France? Amputate Marve's fu#%$in pinky, put him behind center, and we still win the NC this year.
FYI...Taylor Cook is getting recruited as a punter! He is the man! A true CANE, team player!

HOOKERSLUT, SEC is the power conference yearly. Until somebody overthrows them, and I'm talking takes three out of four bowl match-ups from them including the BCS title game for a few years in a row, they run the show thanks to the fanaticism and money thrown at the programs. That's why unbeaten Auburn getting shut out in '04 was such a crime when just one year before everybody went out of their way to bend backwards and crown a one-loss Southern Cal team just because everyone was just itching to have them be relevant again. Hell, as far as I'm concerned I'm not sure $neaky Pete has really accomplished all that much of anything yet, except breaking some eligibility rules, that's a given.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:24 AM
Hey did you guys see on the Miami Herald blog that the players will NOT have their names on their jerseys this year?
You better go read the article...

Kenny Kelly?
Posted by: HOOKERSLUT | July 24, 2007 at 02:25 AM
No names on the Canes Jerseys in 2007...
This is RIDICULOUS...We won 5 national Championships with names on the jerseys...They also played as a team...
A career is so short on the college level
give the kids and all the fans to know the names of the players...There are better ways to keep them as a unit as a team...
You know better Randy...Please reconsider...
That's one of the reason why as a kid i never liked teams like Notre Dame and Penn State...Keep the names on the back...Go and vote on Manny's blog at the Herald...
Go Canes!!!

80 percent of the media graduated from U$C.
Posted by: HOOKERSLUT | July 24, 2007 at 02:27 AM
Brock Berlin will always have a special place in my memory because of one thing, well, five things: 5-0 versus the in-state rivals. That's a special kind of perfection, and he was always . . . entertaining to watch play the position.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:27 AM
If I know Randy...he ain't taking it back!
No do-overs with him...
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:28 AM
Kenny Kelly, decent base-ball player, liked to throw deep, couldn't run an offense for jack.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:28 AM
Scott Covington?
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:29 AM
Can we get your votes PLEASE!!!
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 02:30 AM
Jim Kelly was a good Qb at the U...He was just on very average teams even in 1982...
I really liked Craig Erickson.
86Cane Le tour de France is not in north America and just for your info i graduated from UM in 1982...
Posted by: Louis Dubois | July 24, 2007 at 02:41 AM
And another thing about the no-name jersey's, those slackers are LUCKY they didn't end up without the U on the helmets the way they sleepwalked through a bunch of snaps last year. They haven't played with any discernible fire since the LSU blowout. I know the name thing is supposed to build team unity, but when you've got Morse saying that guys weren't playing hard. AT MIAMI? WTF!!!!?????!!!!! Not acceptable. Also, got to love the line from the Herald article about The Randy's expectations:
"He said he expects UM, 7-6 last season, to not only win its first conference title, but to win every game."
Oh, yeah. That's the right guy to coach this program.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:50 AM
Actually, they did finally show some heart late last year, I take some of that back, but it seemed like it took Pata's death to light any kind of urgency in them once things took a turn the wrong way, and it shouldn't have come to that.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 02:52 AM
Testaverde, Dorsey, Erickson and Walsh.
Posted by: Louis Dubois | July 24, 2007 at 02:52 AM

Posted by: MontrealCane | July 24, 2007 at 02:55 AM
LAcanefan you are wright it's drastic...Go vote on Manny's blog at the Herald...Something is sure the Canes won 5 national championships with names on the jerseys and they played as a unit...as a team...
Posted by: MontrealCane | July 24, 2007 at 03:00 AM
From Milan's blog on PBP: "A source with knowledge of the discussions told me Sunday that UM will announce in the next two weeks that it is leaving the Orange Bowl for Dolphins Stadium."
NOW I'M PISSED. Forget the names on (or off as the case may be) the uni's, THIS CANNOT STAND!
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 24, 2007 at 03:05 AM
Ken Dorsey,Bernie Kosar,Vinny Testaverde,and
Steve Walsh will be my four QBs.
Posted by: Norm | July 24, 2007 at 04:23 AM
We are going through some major changes new head coach, different stadium, and no names in jersey. What's next? There is a little theory that somebody told me once "when you make changes do it one at a time, so if something goes wrong, you know what it is." I know changes can be good sometimes, but you have to learn to draw the line.
Posted by: Norm | July 24, 2007 at 04:29 AM
George Mira, Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde.

Family time
As he's gone about picking up the pieces from last season, new Miami head coach Randy Shannon has focused on strengthening the bonds between the players and coaches. There have been team outings to go bowling or to gather at the homes of different coaches for barbecues, according to senior offensive lineman Derrick Morse.
“We've been doing stuff all summer,” Morse said. “We're at the house with their wife and their kids, and we're playing with their kids and really getting to know them and building a relationship ... We are all in this together.”
Under former coach Larry Coker, Morse said the players were never around the coaches' families unless they boarded a team flight for an away game.

Sleep is way overrated. Necessary, but overrated. Overrated just like some college football teams we know: Gators, FSU, OSU, USC, etc.
Posted by: 86Cane | July 24, 2007 at 08:46 AM
Mira, Kelly, Walsh, Dorsey..LOL, I still hold a childish grudge against Vinny for the Fiesta Bowl...I know, I know, I should get over it.

Go to Manny's Miami Herald page to vote for the "No Name Canes".

My mom taught Frank Costa (remember him? didn't think so...) in a business ethics class. She said he had the unfortunate combination of lazy AND stupid.
So he's not on my list. Let's see...
Kosar, Walsh, Dorsey. Those guys make me feel better about my lousy throwing arm.
