eastlasingcane, it ESPECIALLY includes UF and FSU, the "big three" of Florida football have owned the sport the last 25 years, and I hope their dominance only grows greater over the next 25 years while I'm alive to enjoy it. USF is on a meteoric rise the last decade and even UCF and FAU are charting up. Now if only Christobal can get FIU out of the worst loosing streak in the nation.

Old Skool

Micanor's interviewed in the SS blog. The kid's got attitude, wit and drive. Sounds like a great recruit.

Cavaleer

I can't vote for any of those schools. I just can't do it.

Futch should apologize for losing his cool...

BUT WHO KNOWS? MAYBE HE WAS THE ONLY PLAYER LEAVING IT ALL ON THE FIELD????

And maybe the coaches punked out too??

Overall, I like the ultra-competitive hatred of losing or even playing poorly.

You don't like the insubordination and talking down to your teammates.

I say, find out all sides of the story.

I think Team Shannon will know how to handle it.

Boot WVU and SFU out of the top 15 for that sloppy 'ish.

From the last blog.....why is it that an out-of-state newspaper, from Charlotte, can see what Shannon is doing at Miami, bringing us back to our proper position, and call it out, but the local newspapers are still full of 'ish, with the exception of Manny????

Cavaleer

OGV, great work, btw.

After the Big 3 the talent will drop-off inevitably. But with the right coaching you can build a respectable program like USF.

Next year, though, the whole damm state will bow down.

Cavaleer

LSU has the easiest schedule, sort of.

I think Cal matches up better with USC than any SEC team matches up with LSU.

Cavaleer

Wait, I forgot about the Big Easy, aka the Big-12. OU has the easiest schedule BY FAR!

But I don't know how well they'll match-up with LSU or USC.

How about the Hawaii schedule...is that a joke...

solarcane

OGV,
Just got in and read your latest. That Shortlist Series has been most labor intensive and best written endeavor by all the Canespace writers.

This game is good example why you don't take the polls real serious real early.

I can't believe how USF is dominating WVU. All I can say is WOW!

roachcane77

Hey, where will Canespacers be tailgating tomorrow? I'm going to be able to make it over for the game tomorrow...

Angrycane

Cav...

I hear you bro! But U gotta figure, LSU iz looking STRONG.

HEY... maybe The U can get a REMATCH for ALL THE MARBLES!!

That would be SWEET!

86Cane

Angry...I agree, UM/LSU for the BCS championship would be SWEET! If not this year maybe next?

Montreal-Cane

My predition LSU will win it all this year
and California will upset USC in the regular season...

86Cane

Roach...this is the last home game that I will not be at. I am holding down the tailgate for all other home games right up until the last.

Other Canespacers going to the game please reply to the Roach Coach!

Montreal-Cane

Noel Devine good run...WVU is inside USF 10

I say USF's D is fast, but WVs offense is TERRIBLE! One dimensional and totally overrated. ANOTHER WV TURNOVER!

Montreal-Cane

WVU 6th turnover...

miamimike01

WV is weak. Can't take that Florida talent

Montreal-Cane

They are lucky that Shannon is not coaching them...

INJURY UPDATE

Freshman receiver Jermaine McKenzie, who was at the wheel when he broke a vertebrae in his neck in a one-car crash July 16 that also injured passenger and freshman quarterback Robert Marve, wore a helmet to practice Thursday.

McKenzie, who had been awaiting medical clearance, will not participate in contact drills for at least two more weeks, Shannon said.

Shannon also said safety Lovon Ponder should return to full contact drills next week once he proves he can ''start cutting.'' Receivers Ryan Hill and Sam Shields were again working with the practice squad Thursday. Defensive tackle Josh Holmes, linebacker Romeo Davis and cornerback Glenn Sharpe -- all coming off injuries -- will play this week.

UM's offensive line avoiding penalties

By MANNY NAVARRO
mnavarro@MiamiHerald.com

AL DIAZ / MIAMI HERALD STAFF
Randy Shannon and his staff made it clear to Chris Rutledge and the offensive line that penalties must be avoided. The line has just six in four games.
New special teams starters for Canes
University of Miami assistant coach Jeff Stoutland feeds his offensive linemen lots of inspiring one-liners during practice. But for UM's big men, Stoutland said those principles have become a way to make fun of their coach.

''Execution fuels emotion,'' left tackle Jason Fox said when asked for one of Stoutland's many mottoes. ``He likes that one a lot.

``As long as you come off the field gasping for air, he's happy. He wants us playing our hearts out.''

86Cane

FROM MANNY NAVARRO AT THE MIAMI HERALD:

HAPPY TO MOVE

Most players who lose a starting job aren't happy. But for junior Randy Phillips, the move from starting cornerback to backup safety after what he called his ''worst game ever'' against Oklahoma this month has made him happy.

''I feel free, I feel very confident,'' said Phillips, who played safety in high school. ``I feel like I can play now. Playing at corner, I was isolated a lot. I'm a playmaker. I have the ability to be all around the field making plays -- tackling, breaking up passing, intercepting balls and taking them back.''

Defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff said Phillips, who has played between 65 and 70 snaps at safety, would not have moved to safety without the return of Carlos Armour and Bruce Johnson.

USF? BIG 3???????????

they are decent this year, but...

produce 2 Heisman winners, 30+ 1st round draft picks, win 5 NC's, play for 5 more, win YOUR CONFERENCE, be ranked for more than a damn week...

... then talk to me about being one of the big 3.

Preseason rankings are a joke, this "upset" proves this yet again. WVA hasn't been able to stop anybody this year so far. But somehow, people look at the returning starters, look at the sched before a ball is even kicked off, and decide, "these guys look like a top ten team, let's vote them there!" But a month into the season, WVA can't stop anybody, and has already lost to a team that people prejudged "unworthy" of Top 25 status to start the year. Does WVA deserve a place in the polls? Probably, somewhere around 20-25, which is where they'll be ranked by some, but I expect them only to fall to around 15-20.

miamimike01

Let's talk, 86.

our biggest win in program history is not against a #5 ranked team.

I respect USF, but let's be real. The players need to shutup before we shut it for'em next year.

orange 'n green in the vein

And thanks for the kind words solarcane, but really, the only "labor" involves watching A LOT of college football games while hanging out at the bar, eating some tasty bar food, and hitting on random hot girls who aren't wearing Michigan colors. How much "labor" can you really consider that?

orange 'n green in the vein

mm01, UM's biggest win in history didn't come over a #5 team a decade after we started playing football either. Leavitt is a program builder on the Bobby Bowden level, which is something awesome to behold. I also find it HILARIOUS that UM leaves the Big East, everybody is taking guesses of WVA, Pitt, Louisville, as to which team will inherit the UM spot in the new league, and the answer appears to be the brand new Florida school they poached from CUSA! God the Big East is a joke.
