SOUP

YES, Blog by JC...forgot the credits. Be right back!

Loco

btw soup congrats on the CBS thing...

who's going to be at regionals?

AvaCane96

i will try to make the final game of regionals...students can still just get in wit the Cane card right?

Loco

Don't know that yet. Have somebody emailing them to ask, hopefully hear back tomorrow. I hope so, I don't want to spend $10. but will if i have to.... But Canecards guarantee us entry even if its sold out...

busy_cane

Nice link Jack on the White House visit. That must be a thrill.

A few comments.

1) 3 of 5 coaches have direct ties in one form or another to Miami (Go Canes!)

2) It's the White House, Coach Shannon, you should really have worn a necktie.

3) Charlie Weiss is so large, that even though he had on a suit, he is to big to button it.

-cheers

busy_cane

Just needed to get off one insensitive post before the night was through.

Loco

Did anybody else notice that Coach Shannon has a look of "hurry up, i'm wasting my time here..."?

Montreal-Cane

Chris Hernandez should be the starter for the first game on friday...9 days after his last start...last wednesday against Clemson...

Montreal-Cane

JC nice feature!

Peace!

Go Canes!

Loco

Idk monty, I think we need him more in game two against probably Mizzou...

dj moonbat

"Randy Shannon and President Bush..."

They must have a lot to talk about, what with the way they both conquered personal adversity through indomitable will and hard work.

orange 'n green in the vein

The White House stacked all the Hurricanes together behind Bush then let Jabba the Hut blabber on incoherently at the photo op. What gives? Let Mr. Preseason #1 in the Nation speak instead of the Leprechaun's coach, George.

Montreal-Cane

Loco it's important to make sure you win this first game and you cannot rest your star pitcher for too long...9 days is long enough...But Morris will make the best decision, i am sure...

Peace!

Loco

Monty I know, but I think its better if he throws a sim game or something tomorrow and then holds off til saturday, because Mizzou (or Ole Miss for that matter) are both much better opponents than BCC

Loco

And that's true... When in doubt, Morris knows best!

Montreal-Cane

Larry Templeton NCAA commissioner chair div.1 for college baseball= A real joke

Why don't you have the same system as in basketball...You are not even rewarded for finishing no.1 in the nation...Ridiculous...But
like Alonso said bring in the best teams...we like it this way!

And like solar said earlier:

If we are as good as we seem, who cares who we eliminate first second or third?

Let's go Canes! It's us against the world!

Montreal-Cane

Loco taking into consideration the last month of the regular season and the ACC
tournament should Garcia be our no.2 pitcher
in the rotation or you still go with Erickson???

Calvin

In baseball, often times you always start your best pitcher in game 2 or 3, in this case, game 2 is when you start your best pitcher. You don't want to loose game 1 with your best pitcher, and than have to go into game 2 hoping the next best one can pull it off.

Besides, the thinking is real simple, if you win the 1st game with your 2nd best pitcher, the second game should be a lil easier to almost automatic as automatic can be in baseball.

As far as shannon goes, it would have been good if he was wearing a white suit withgreen and orange pin stripes.

Loco

I think I would say Garcia... But I think Erickson should go out against BCC to get his bearings, maybe get some confidence back. Game 3 will be just as hard as game 2, so we'll need Garcia then I think...

Calvin we all have good arguments but remember in The ACC tournament, Hernandez
pitched the first game against Clemson (30-26)and the second game was against a much better team Georgia Tech...

Solar, by no means do I think the Canes can or should lose, and I resent the accusation of Cokerization. You can accuse me of being a communist or a satan worshiper, but good lord man, a Cokerist??

In all seriousness, I don't have a problem with a tough schedule. I like it when the football team has a tough schedule and I want them to play the best team available in the bowl game.

That being said, the idea of a seeded tournament is to reward regular season results. Since it was a committee and not a computer that did that, I feel the Canes got hosed. Proper respect was NOT given to their stellar regular season.

But come one come all, I think the Canes can and will beat every team in this country. Regardless, it's all amazing competition in Omaha, so a tough road should have them battle hardened by then.

Mizzou isn't so great beyond Crow, tho they were #4 for a long while. Ole Miss definitely underachieved. I don't think you can look at their past results as a gauge of the challenge they pose for the Canes. There's talent there.

(NCAA Tournament)

Day: Friday
Date: May 30, 2008
Location: Coral Gables, Fla.
Time: 4:00 p.m. ET

Coverage
TV: ESPNU Radio: WVUM

The No. 1 seed Miami will play against
No. 4 Bethune Cookman (36-20) and conference Pitcher of the Year Hiram Burgos (9-1, 1.20 ERA).We don't know yet who will be the starting pitcher for the Canes.

Hey Soup... happy as hell for ya, as I see your stepp'n in some high cotton, but just remember who your friends are, as you start big timing it up the chain.

Next: Did you catch my blog concerning the Party and starting time during CWS?..., and your response is?

..............................
Saw the regional placement and it is what it is... eventually, we are going to have to beat everybody anyway, so, might as well eliminate them early.

JC

As for the pitchers, if the guys at Baseball America is right and Crow will pitch for Mizzou against Ole Miss (who apparently have a good ace of their own) then I feel better about the pitching match ups.

Still, it's four friggin 40-plus win teams in one regional. Outrageous.

As per the Herald:

"Bethune-Cookman has the nation's ERA leader in junior Hiram Burgos (1.20), and Ole Miss had the No. 3 pitcher in ERA, sophomore Scott Bittle (1.45), in the final regularseason NCAA statistics.

UM defeated Bethune-Cookman, the Mid-Eastern Conference champion, on March 25 and 26 at Mark Light, the first game a 10-5 victory and the second game a come-from-behind, 7-6 win. Burgos (9-1) took his lone loss this season in the second game, giving up one run on two hits in one-third of an inning."

So I don't know what Morris will do besides pitch Hernandez in the second game (I'd be shocked if he didn't. 9 days or 10 days, what's the difference?) The question is, will he pitch Garcia or Erickson first?

Calvin

Miami has never started its ace in the first game of a regional. I don't expect them to change that now.

Busy, I thought Shannon's attire was a statement: One of what he thinks of Bush. Two of all the lives that have been wasted or ruined in Iraq. But we'll never know one way or another. But from what I've seen and read of Shannon, nothing he does is not well-thought out in advance.

DJ, I'd think Shannon and Bush would have a lot in common just based on pure talent and proven ability. LOL!

Cav, i didn't forget the DVD. I have it sitting in my bag I bring with me to work. I bring the DVD but forget the address and hotmail is now blocked at the job so I can't just get it while here. You will be getting it this week though. My bad on being slow.

Cane Since 1982

Cav,

We lost more lives on D-Day (One day) than we have in the entire Iraq war.

Cavaleer

Este, don't be silly. Take your time. That link above is great. Just the information I need.

1982, clearly we lost more on D-Day but those lives were lost for a worthy war. This thing today is just disgraceful.

Besides, it was Memorial Day.

Cavaleer

Este, that article puts this entire economic situation into perfect persepctive. Combined with the Mexican pres's confession on Larry King some time ago about trying to cripple the US with so much debt that we'll want a common currency with Mexico.

GTFOH!!!!

But Bush is trying to use everything he can fleece this country, like the parasite he is.

Cane Since 1982

D-Day to stop the Genecide of Jews.
Iraq War to stop the Genecide of every one not Muslim.

Cavaleer

Dallas, you should read this article Esteban posted, and the one immediately following it. I'd be interested to hear what you think. Email me your take. cavvaleer@gmail.com

1982, I don't think anyone knew about the camps on D-Day. That information didn't come out until Germany and Hitler were blown to bits. There was no CNN in Germany.

We invaded to save the UK, liberate France and stop Hitler and Japan.

Esteban

iraq war to stop the genocide of everyone not muslim? i know that wasn't supposed to be hilarious, but it was. al qaeda (a cia developed organization and as used in bosnia a very good employee for them) wasn't even in iraq until after we invaded.

and Cav, I remember the Vicente Fox comment about the Amero being the next currency. The Euro for North America. He said it pretty matter of factly.

Cane Since 1982

no but Saddam was

Esteban

and has anyone been following Manny's spring tour reports? I read a couple (had to read the one on central). Lots of good info. Sucks tho that you need to register to post a comment on his blog now - I know I'm late on that one.

JC

Aw come on, Memorial Day isn't a day for questioning the validity of wars. Those are political decisions. It's about remembering the young men and women who were blameless in whatever stupidity lead to war (and it's ALWAYS stupidity whether righteous or not) and died bc of it.

But I will say you can't equate D-Day casualities with any Gulf War and say hey we're doing better any more than you can compare stats of football from the 1940s to today. Warfare is highly automated and fought from a greater distance with more precision now. They were still fixing bayonets on D-Day, and facing a large industrialized nation in Germany with a conventional army, not a bunch of lunatics in the desert using guerilla tactics.

Cav, it's highly debatable the level of knowledge there was of the holocaust prior to 1945. Read Samantha Power's book on genocide if you're curious on the issue. And, while I'd agree there are wackos in the middle east who'd be happy to see world-wide extermination of non-muslims, there's not a single person with the polticial will or tactical ability to even begin to attempt it. To suggest that's what we're fighting in the Middle East to prevent is ridiculous.

Glad to see my Canes baseball blog brought up genocide tho, bc I interpret that as supreme confidence the Canes are gonna leave all those other 63 teams dead and buried when they hoist the trophy in Omaha! Everyone's picking against us and those lame LSU fans are back out saying glory glory to the Tigers and talking about 1996 and Matt Morris again. I hope we meet and pound those SOBs in Omaha.

Esteban

Saddam had been there for 20 plus years. That wasn't anything new. And remember he was our boy when he was doing the worst of his activities. And we even gave him permission to go into Kuwait after Kuwait started stealing Iraq's oil with the slanted drilling. So the first Gulf War was a phony as well. I'll avoid the off topics the best I can - which isn't good. But just a note to everyone - don't believe a thing the government says without checking ALL the data you can find on whatever the subject is. And even after that still go back and double check it.

Cat5 Cane

Sports anyone?

UF, FSU could collide in NCAA regional
Florida and Florida State were placed in the Tallahassee regional, and the Gators and the Seminoles will meet if both teams win -- or lose.

The Rumor mill...
LSU... takes easy road in 2008... well, thats 4 wins and throw in 5/6 more for a easy 10/2 year.

A lot of people have criticized LSU for its weak non-conference schedule. In 2008, the national champion Tigers will start the season with three straight home games against Appalachian State, Troy and North Texas, and the other non-conference game is a home date in November against Tulane.
Next year they have thrown in Washington... No, Washington isn't a particularly good team right now, but playing on the road against any major-conference opponent is a big improvement from what the Tigers are doing this year. LSU also has Houston and Vanderbilt on the 2009 schedule, which aren't exactly powerhouses but are improvements the likes of North Texas. .

Cavaleer

JC, very good blob btw. I forgot to mention it.

M.H.

Cav and Este..We are a Military Industrial Complex...People matter less..unless it serves the big Corporations..Every citizen, in the U.S., should have, as a right, available to all:
Education, health care, and some social aid...

This is not socialism, just a humanitarian right..If you can afford better, than fine...Otherwise we are turning into a two caste system of haves and have nots..

Cavaleer

Cat 5, LSU is doing an OSU with there non-conference games. But at least they get tested and pushed in the SEC.

After we play UF this year, I don't think Oscar will want 2012 or whenever it is that we meet again. He already whines about the SEC schedule.

Tubberville at least schedules some real non-conference games.

Cavaleer

M.H., sort of but there are a whole lot of people who have managed to live a good life in our system.

The problems with what we have start at the top, with the so-called leaders. But it's been that way since Andrew Jackson was in office.

Esteban

corruption will doom about any system.

JC

The SEC is whining about their hard schedules in everything. I'll admit their football conference is tough but so what, just bc the AL East is tough means if the Angels win the AL, they're not a worthy champ? I'm tired of the bogus btching. Now it's baseball, oh we got 9 teams in the tournament and LSU should be a higher seed bc the SEC is sooo tough, they'd have owned the ACC. Spare me SEC.

DelrayCane

nice work, JC.

Go Canes

Cavaleer

JC, I was on Youtube yesterday watching the 1991 Cotton Bowl and some corn-ball was talking about how Tenn. "whooped" our azz in 1985 and proved "SEC football was on another level".

Of course I reminded him that we stomped TN and UF at their home fields in 2002. I then politely told him to "BOW DOWN AND KISS THE RINGS!!"

They're delusional. In a couple of years there will be no talk of how great the SEC is.

M.H.

..But the good life is starting to slip away for many..Unaffordable health care and education and a broken infrastructure.

CanesgirlNC

Wide Receiver Rantavious Wooten fromZBelle Glade had a great spring game against Miami Central - 128 yards and 3 TD's. Last season they were in the spread but for 2008 are going to a pro offense. Coaches, McGriff, Hurtt and Hill were at the spring game. He has an offer but is waiting until after the 2008 season to evaluate everyone.

Thanks Delray.

Cav, I had no idea (was too young) to realize Texas was thinking maybe national title heading into that Cotton Bowl. It's a much more interesting game, beyond all the penalties, when you really read about it.

I realize the fact we still discuss the 1985 season and such and the controversy that keeps the conversation alive makes college football unique, and I often wonder if that uniqueness is worth the B.(C)S. that we put up with. After all, what other sport still debates seasons decades past with the ferver as though they were yesterday?

At the end of the day though, I'd rather just have a legit champ. I really think college football is a different beast bc loyalties are created by more than geographic location and your involvement is more than just as a fan of a group of professional players (typically anyway). I agree with SEC fans that their champ should always play for the title. I just disagree that they should be one of only two teams to do so.

If you went decade by decade and had to pick the "conference of the decade" I wonder how the SEC would do. I know this for sure, the 80s was the Decade of the Independents (dominated by Miami, Penn St, and FSU) and the 90s was definitely the decade of the Big 10 (clearly I don't define this by national titles exclusively). Any thoughts on other decades? The 70s and 50s might be Big 8 decades.

JC

I love how 4-5 former Canes are listed at overrated on this list of NFL players:

98th!! Take that, Jer...

anyone have any insight on the bracketing for the Regionals? Am I right in seeing Omaha regulars being paired in Regionals? What the hell?! Any insight would be appreciated.

Esteban

JC did you do the conference of the current decade?

and M.H., I was reading McCain's health care plan. Talk about another reason to dislike a guy.
