Rudy...recently many here criticized Rudy from www.insidetheu.com for his blog about the Canes recruiting class for 2009 and the apparent lack of attention UM is paying to star RB Jamal Berry. Rudy and I talked of the blog recently and he feels he has been mis-interpreted and mis-understood by the fans out there. And, I agree. At times it seems that anyone that talks even somewhat negatively about anything Cane related gets blasted on the blog. And Rudy is by no means alone in this experience.
Remember back to when the now infamous Carlos was the Anti-Christ? Well, we met Carlos at several Canespace pre-game parties at The Titanic (Cat5 and OcalaCane seen here in our usual pre-game hangout) and he has become one of our best friends and supporters. Ponce, Alpharetta and others who have dared to remove their ORANGE and GREEN glasses just for a moment and call it like the see it (even when not so good) have also been heavily criticized for their negative views.
Here is how I see it: I know Rudy (seen here on the field at the Under Armour HS All Star Game at Disney) personally and he is a good person, a huge Canes fan and an opinionated and honest person. He doesn't make stuff up just to stir the pot or just to get hits on his site. He speaks his mind and that means that he's going to say what he thinks and believes to be true. You can disagree if you want, openly and publicly on the blog, but attack the opinions, not the man. Attacking the person is not the Canespace way.
Rudy has told me that he wants to set the record straight with Canes fans at The Space. So, anyone who wants to speak to Rudy privately off the blog email me at [email protected] and I will forward you his email and/or phone number.
Raves...Former Hurricane WR and Legend of the Fall Lamar Thomas took several hours of his valuable time to sit down with Canespace recently and provide us with tons of great material for the three part series on the great Canes teams and players of 1990-92, his days in the NFLU at the Bucs and Dolphins and the current UM team, coaches and players to watch in 2008 and beyond.
We want to thank LT for his time and comments and congratulate him once again for recently getting his degree from UM. We wish him the best of luck with his continuing education (he is currently enrolled at UM and taking classes) and his plans to move into coaching at the high school and then collegiate levels. LT#36 was generous with his time, a great person to talk to and shared some great stories about old school Canes. LT is a true U legend!
Reservations...for those of you attending UM football games this year Canespace has made a special group rate agreement withThe Hampton Inn in Plantation, Florida (Southern Broward County). We are working on R/T transportation to Stadium from the hotel and will announce this soon on the blog.
Starting on July 15th just mention "Canespace" when making your reservations to get the special discount rate. The hotel is located on University Drive 10 miles north of the stadium which allows you to avoid the Turnpike tolls and traffic if you choose to drive there yourself.
The contact information for making your reservations at the #1 ranked Hampton Inn in Florida is:

CANESPACE CONTENT ALERT:
New blog titled "Catch Me If U Can" written by Loco will be posted tomorrow night at 8 PM. A detailed and thorough breakdown of the freshmen WRs and Dbs. Really good stuff.
New blog written by a first timer at Canespace "Mike" will be posted on Monday at 8 PM on his memories of the "Old Girl", the now demolished OB (it's OK, U can let the tears flow).
New blog titled "Insider Information" written by Loco will post on Wednesday at 8 PM. Loco details the players he actually played against in HS that now wear The U on their helmets. Info doesn't get any more "inside" than that!

As far as rudy goes, it's not that big of a deal, he's no different that anybody else, like we told him way back when, you can't be sensitive on here, so if he says something, and it gets blasted, it's obvious he either needs to change his approach or man-up, either way, no need to try and bridge this artificial gap, with rudy, if he's all UM fine, but his statements are what they are, so in order to rectify this, every time rudy comes on here and says something that causes you and christopher stock to have to try and clean it up, all we want is for them to give you a free pass to post articles from inside- the-u for at least 3 days.
Posted by: Calvin | June 27, 2008 at 05:50 PM
For starters, they need to un-azz the don soldinger 3 part series now for all the stress this rudy situation has caused us over the last few days, i mean the stress level is extremly high right now for alot fo members in CANEspace Nation, and one of the only remedies that's calm some of them down will be reading, especially reading articles on individuals who are what helped to shape and mold UM, da don!

Calvin...I hear U. Just trying to manage things the best way I know how, and that's to try to be fair to all involved.
I respect your opininon and comments. Keep them coming!
Posted by: SOUP | June 27, 2008 at 06:11 PM
It's not like people on here go out of their way and say hey, let's pick on rudy today. rudy has to understnad more of the people he's dealing with more so, than the other way around. He'll be alright, it's happned to him before and it'll probably happen to him again, CANEspace will keep on ticking, i understnad though what you're tryingto do though man, but seriously, as for myself, it's no big deal, but it's real easy for rudy to make amends, with all the inside knowledge he has, all he has to do is spit more of that out instead of the other stuff and people will listen to that alot more, let em know it's real simple man.
Posted by: Calvin | June 27, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy...
Can't speak for most recent blog by Rudy, as I haven't read it, but I remember the last outburst about the coaches and to be honest, the jury is still out on the two that are remaining... in Pannunzio and Nix... Only time will tell if he's right and we'll have to see it played out in 08... So for those who are still fuming, suggest to cool your jets on that topic.
Hell,... LOL...It's all good, whether you agree or not, just remember we all have opinions and they are like azzholes, some are big and some are small but we all have one.

Passion... is a word that discribes ones feeling. It can take you to the highest of highs and to the depths of dispaire. Who here can say that their passion is right, like the guessing of wins and losses. One or two believe that 3/8 is a sound guess while some say 7/5, while others say 8/4 and still again some say 10/2 and I say, screw everybody and why not go the gammit and say 12/0... So, here's to your opinions and screw you, cause I'm right!

CBS Sports and Marve
For fans of the Miami Hurricanes, there’s a new word to learn — patience. More than ever, that quality is needed as Miami attempts its return to big-time relevance in college football. The future isn’t now. It’s 2009 — at least — before Miami football will scare anybody like the old days.
Oh, the players still enter the stadium through a billowing cloud of smoke. That familiar “U’’ remains on the side of the helmet. They still look just like the Hurricanes.
But make no mistake, the University of Miami’s football program is very much in transition. The head coach (Randy Shannon) is still establishing himself. The athletic director (36-year-old Kirby Hocutt) is new. The roster is incredibly young. And the backdrop for it all has changed drastically.
The Orange Bowl, once an ultra-intimidating setting for Miami’s biggest nights, is gone — literally.
Miami’s city game has shifted to the suburbs — Dolphin Stadium, an antiseptic NFL venue that won’t have the sights, sounds or smells of the old ballyard. But it’s not an antiquated relic, either, so Miami has addressed its future financial viability.
As for the present, the Hurricanes aren’t ready to compete for an ACC title, let alone a national championship. The program has slowly eroded since the superstar-laden era of five years ago, when the Hurricanes had a 34-game winning streak and nearly back-to-back national titles.
So we bring up that word again — patience. It’s not exactly an easy concept for a program known for win-now results. But after a 5-7 season and a roster makeover, there’s really no other way to go.
Shannon’s 33-player recruiting class was widely praised. In fact, some pundits even ranked it No. 1 nationally. It seems like Shannon is taking a page from Howard Schnellenberger’s time-honored strategy — close the gates around South Florida’s prep programs and keep those players home to play for Miami.
The problem is many of Miami’s first-year players — anywhere from eight to 10 — are legitimate candidates to become starters. That’s not how it works at most football powerhouses. But that’s where Miami is now.
Nowhere is the youth more obvious than at quarterback, where redshirt freshman Robert Marve is expected to start. For the first time since 1983, the Hurricanes will open with a quarterback who has never taken a college snap.
Potentially scary stuff, especially when studying the early schedule. There are roadies at Florida and Texas A&M, followed by home ACC games with North Carolina and Florida State. Marve has no safety net. The other candidates are true freshmen Jacory Harris and Cannon Smith.
Kyle Wright’s disappointing tenure has ended. Kirby Freeman transferred to Baylor. So that likely leaves it in the arms of Marve, who might’ve seen some action last season had he not been derailed by a serious offseason car accident.
How good is Marve? How good is any young highly touted quarterback just coming into college football? Wright was supposed to be all-world and that never happened. So who can really say?
I’ll just tell you what I know. Marve, from Tampa’s Plant High School, is arguably the most electrifying prep quarterback to emerge from the Tampa Bay area (a list that includes Shaun King, Tommie Frazier, Kenny Kelly and John Reaves).
Marve threw 48 touchdown passes as a senior, breaking the Florida prep record of Tim Tebow (the record was broken again last season by Aaron Murray, Marve’s former teammate at Plant, who tossed 51 TDs). Marve was sensational in leading his state-champion team to a 15-0 season.
In high school, he had all the intangibles, the “it’’ factor. He made plays with his arm and his feet. Often, when a pattern broke down and Marve improvised, it was the prelude for pure magic.
There was a time when Marve wasn’t considered the best quarterback in his Tampa senior class (Stephen Garcia, who signed with South Carolina, had the better reputation). But Marve, who originally committed to Alabama then switched to Miami after the firing of Crimson Tide coach Mike Shula, improved drastically and appeared on everyone’s radar screen.
Obviously, it has been some time before Marve threw his last meaningful pass. And it’s not realistic to expect a first-year player to thrive in environments such as Gainesville and College Station. But by all accounts, Miami has a player to build around in Marve.
peace

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/more/06/27/viagra.athletes.ap/index.html?cnn=yes
LONDON (AP) -- Athletes looking for a performance boost appear to be turning to a little blue pill more usually taken for its off-the-field benefits: Viagra
Still, some preliminary studies have shown that cyclists taking Viagra improved their performances by up to 40 percent.
"If you have more oxygen going to your muscles, that's more energy and that makes you a better athlete," said Dr. Andrew McCullough, a sexual health expert at the New York University School of Medicine. "Even if it only gives you a 10 percent increase, in peak athletes that is enough to win."
McCullough said Viagra is only likely to help athletes such as runners, cyclists or skiers -- sports where endurance and speed are key. Viagra does not work directly on muscles, so will not make athletes stronger.

One of the best movies ever made... If you haven't seen it, I suggest to take the time and rent it... after seeing it, try to place yourself into one of the characters.
The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre(1948)
Writer/director John Huston's masterful study of greed. Stars Humphrey Bogart and Tim Holt as American vagrants in Mexico who team up with grizzled prospector, Walter Huston in a search for gold that gets them far more than they ever imagined.
Winner of three Academy Awards, the film also features Bruce Bennett, Bobby Blake, and Alfonso Bedoya as the bandit who said "We ain't got no stinking badges."

Not to pile on Rudy, but what he needs to understand is that Shannon and company just had one of the top recruiting classes in the country and a decent recruiting class the year before that.
Therefore in saying that, I think Shannon and his staff pretty much know what they’re doing and should be given the benefit of the doubt when recruiting these student athletes. Shannon and his staff are subject to far more information than Rudy or anybody here on this blog (well, maybe outside Truth) may have access to.
We just need to let it all play out. If JB truly knows in his heart that he wants to be a Cane, he will go above and beyond to do what ever it takes to prove to these coaches that he belongs in this class. We should have all learned from the PJ experience a year ago. Just my take.

Alex...good, balanced, fair post. Nice work. U should post MORE often.
Posted by: SOUP | June 27, 2008 at 10:47 PM
If you want to call The Randy out for questionable coaching, OK, I can see the point. But of all things to question the guy on recruiting is just about the last one you can try to call him out for, maybe trailing only discipline of the roster in the list of his strengths as a head coach. So they haven't offered a RB from South Florida yet, big deal, Noel Devine went elsewhere, Easterling went elsewhere. It's not going to kill the program if they don't land this particular running back. Missing on whole recruiting classes, now that's what kills a program, starting with QB misfires first and foremost.

I still think Rudy is grossly unqualified to be making the majority of the opinions he makes. If I may use an analogy to illustrate I will say this:
Lets say I were to spend a month or even two hanging around the UM Medical School at Jackson, talking to doctors, patients and administrators all day, every day.
If at the end of that time I was still a total tool, would you want me diagnosing you if you were sick?
