"I'm Mike James, beeyotch!!!!" I just had to. Did not see that in this blog so there ya go.

Alex D

I think we are jumping the gun already on some of these kids possible decisions. We are still early (real early) in the recruit process and must keep in mind that these are kids and that more than often, they will change their mind throughout this process.

I can guarantee you if the U start off 3-0 or 1-2 that it would have a dramatic effect on the decision that some of some these kids make or will make as to where they will choose to play.

Once again people, let the recruiting process play itself out and we’ll be fine once we produce on the field.

You are so right Alex. Also, wait until they take their official visits. I mean going to the Grove or South Beach is nothing compared to in the fall and winter.

Nice info Canez1. Time will tell how good Travis Benjamin will be but IMO his style, size, and speed looks like a cross between Roscoe Parrish and Santana Moss... If his production is somewhere in between Roscoe and Santana he'll be a huge help to the team... It'll be interesting to see if he sees the field as a freshmen.

dj moonbat

Our WR corps is going to be really nasty in a couple years. Benjamin and DJ are crazy fast; Thompkins and Collier have good moves and quickness; and Byrd, Streeter and AJ all have big frames with really good speed.

Add that to Hank and J-Mac, and there's really no way we won't have an ace 4-man rotation at WR at the very least.

From the Mike James write up above:

"Deceptively shifty with good hips through traffic. Shows good vision, loose hips and lateral quickness side stepping trash."

mike, ogv, vince,

I have utmost respect for all of your passion for the Orange Bowl.
I went there as often as I could, took my son with me as often as we could.
He continued to go after I moved.
He will be at TOP every home game.

As a kid in the Orange Bowl he would look at me wide eyed, with a grin ear to ear and say "these people are insane"
He knew what I knew... it was YOU GUYS that made the place rock.
When the Canes were dominating we could have played anywhere and the fond memories would be the same.

thanks just my 2 cents

Lamar Miller Situation:

Guys got the skinny on lamar Miller!!!!!!

Every one whats know whats up about Lamar Miller. You all may know that Lamar Miller grades is an issue, but thats the least of the issue. Schools such as Miami who he dearly loves, Florida and South Carolina are backing off because word on the street is Lamar Miller associates is looking for extra assentive if you know what I mean, Its true Mike James may be our last Rb, unless a prospect RB has quote from source: Better have Frank Gore type numbers in high-school.

Guess we have to play this out and see. But thats the skinny. Hope this is not true. But character issues is playing a lot in this recruiting situation, which it kinda makes sense remember P.J?

Are we really less than 2 months away from declaring a victor in the MR. FOOTBALL I VS. MR. FOOTBALL II showdown? Whoever comes in 2nd will be on the field versus Charelston Southern for the 1st possession of the 2nd half anyway, but still, I can't wait to see who comes out on top!

I can't believe I'm looking forward to seeing either Miami qb taking snaps... how long has that been???

and your right about jitters, he's losing out to a freshman.. a freaking freshman! to start for Baylor... freaking Baylor!

Someone said the Marlins will go broke in a few years.

That is an impossibility.

Cane360

JH will have to add weight. His legs were barely holding his socks up in the Spring Game. Marve all the way. Could we implement the two QB system? VERY possible with Nix.

My main concern (well, not concern cause I know) is the fact that the Gafors cannot play agianst a zone defense. The spread is built on man which is what the entire SEC plays except for a few. And if Auburn is any indication then there should be smiles all across faces in the ole Canes family. If you are not close to Aubrun then ask Michigan. If you know what I mean, Vern!

And if you really want to know something is that Gafor squad is really only a year ahead, and a year means nothing. THE U 31 - Gafors 17. We will run all day (or night) long on that weak azz defense of theirs. We won't require to pass, and Marve's quicks will save us a few 3 and outs.

orange 'n green in the vein

Cane360, there is no way the UF defense is as porous as it was at times last year (especially the secondary). Mr. Football I is going to have to play the game of his young life so far to have any chance to pull the upset. Not saying he has to carry the load offensively (that falls on "no longer a" Baby J and Cooper) in the Swamp, but he has to manage the game and neutralize the sizable home-field advantage by making smart decisions with the ball. And as skinny as Mr. Football II is right now, I don't think he's planing on getting hit ala Turf Face. I just think it'll be a lot to ask of the true freshman to adjust to UF's defensive speed with only 30 minutes of game time reps tucked under his belt in game two of his career.

solarcane

I think James has the most carries plus the most receptions vs Florida win or lose.

peace

Cane360

Marve isn't a true freshman so his maturity is already up there. He played against our first team defense all season last year. I also live in Tampa, and watched the kid play at Plant. He keeps his head even under pressure. I know he'll have a lot of schemes to read, but what do you think they've been studying in this offseason? UF, UF, UF, UF. Just like TA&M did last offseason for us. We'll just have better results. The kid is video hungry, and knows what it is going to take to be THE QB at THE QB U. The atmosphere in the Swamp is just going to feed his hunger. All we have to ask is that the WRs catch the ball. At least, I know, he'll be hitting them in the hands. PLUS, his pops played in the NFL so that helps his mentality as well. I am pretty sure his dad has taught him a thing or two.

solarcane

cane360 I like that optimism!
Everyone says we will lay 50 on CS you are saying we will lay 31 on Uf

50
31= 81 points divided by 2 games=40.5 ppg which would probably lead the nation.
(which isn't going to happen)

If we have 50 ponts after two games i'll be satisfied.

peace

Cane360

We honestly don't know what is going to happen. We have a FB to lead block unlike last year. We have depth almost at every position unlike last year. We have athletes where we need them. We have the attitude to be winners again (at least you can tell from the audio interviews "Our Man Manny" provides). And I have a fuzzy feeling. This is a new season, and we all hope for the best. The reality is, we just don't know. It is a brand new team, and last year's named QB starter isn't even starting over a freshman at Baylor. That should give everyone an idea of what we had last year. Just remember Bradford for OU. He was a redshirt last year, and finished with an NCAA high of 176 QB rating. This goes to show, it can happen.

Another of those he said/she said situations but a serious one nonetheless.

Cane360, I've said on here before, from the little I've seen and the lot I've read about Mr. Football I, he sounds like a shorter, physically more gifted, version of the great and wonderful Ken Dorsey. (Peace be upon him!) And yes, the NFL pedigree of his father is always a fun little fact to keep in mind when wondering what he'll bring to the table. The only thing I'm worried of is that Marve seemed to LOVE the roll out of the pocket under pressure, across the body, opposite field bomb option when he scrambled. In HS you can survive with that, but at the next level, that stuff catches up to you eventually.

orange 'n green in the vein

solar, grown up James is going to have to contend for the Heisman for UM to have ANY shot at going to a BCS bowl this year.

Cane360

OnG - what was that play again? Across, over, under, to the side, where? Whatever it takes to get the ball out, man. LMAO!

I totally hear ya. I have some strong faith over here. I think he already knows that. I did not see him run out of the pocket in the Spring Game until the last second. I also don't see him as a deer in the headlights kind of player. I think he simply loves the game and loves to win. He will be challenged in the Swamp, but he already played most of those players in HS anyway.

solarcane

ogv.
I'm thinking Nix knows that JJ knows that Shannon knows if Nix is gonna be here next year JJ better be first team ACC at least.

I'm thinking JJ 13 carries a game 76 yrds
5.8
6 receptions a game 50 yrds
8.3
Nix would look good no?

peace

NavyCane4Life

It would be nice to see JJ and Cooper put up the numbers that CJ Spiller and James Davis did the past two seasons, if they do that and Marve gets the passing game going. We will dominate everyone!

Cane360

I am thinking this year will be a reflection of 1998. We'll be 9-3. McCarthy just getting into his own, and Morgan was the same way in 1998. We lose three but they are close. In 2009, we'll get famboozled out of a NC then play for one in 2010. Then repeat every year from 2011 on. How's that sound?

solarcane

Then repeat every year from 2011 on. How's that sound?

well hell yes

Last time...Travis Benjamin will be the X-factor at the U. Last year he carried Glades Central on his back to the Regional finals. The year GC won the state title they had Deonte, Berry, Tarus McKinley, and Benjamin. It was hard for teams to game plan for GC, because anyone of those players could hurt teams.
Last year it was just TB and everyone knew who was getting the ball, but it didn't matter. Don't let his size fool you, the kid is a football player. Just give him the damn ball.

I know many of you will shudder at the thought but If I were Nix and planned to use the spread, I would watch Tebow and how proficient he has gotten last year... Then I would bring in the QB's and game study his moves and plays.... and maybe use a few... The best way to beat an opponent is to know their moves and use it against them!

AvaCane96

so the rest of the '08 recruits have finally started practice??

i cant wait to hear about Brandon Harris at CB..and how the new receivers help.

CanezNC

I'll keep saying it, this team (especially in the ACC) can be as good as it wants to be. If we have solid QB play and the D returns to form under Young...this team can turn it around in a hurry. In the last two years Wake, Illinois, UVA, Tennessee all rebounded from 3-5 total wins to play on New Year's day with 9-11 win seasons. Why can't Miami, who massively underachieved in '08 and added a boatload of talent, confidence, and coaching experience in the last 6 months?

Old Skool

If I remember correctly, the Marlins are in the black before the first ticket is sold. Their share of MLB revenues is greater than their payroll and I believe their entire overhead.

CoCane

However good the O-line, D-line & QB is, is how good the team is gonna be...

CanezNC

CoCane, I agree.

Randy advice

You guys [in the military] work hard. You get put in situations that are difficult, that are mentally tough, physically tough, but you get it done. You don't ever back away from it. That's what coaching football is about. We get put in situations all the time, not just on the field. We have to deal with the alumni. We have to deal with players going to class. We have to deal with off-the-field situations. We always have situations where you have to think about it, stay calm and do what's best for the program. But also you sit back and say what is best for helping this kid to be the best that he can be?

Times have changed. Players haven't changed. With the Internet, the Facebook -- what's the other Web site y'all got? MySpace -- y'all got some stuff that, whew, I would never think about. Those things right there, fellas, that's a lot of information that you're giving out that sometimes can hurt you in the future. I tell the players at the University of Miami, 'Be careful what you put on that Internet, be careful what you put on MyFace [sic] and Facebook because in the long run, three, four years, 10 years, 15 years down the road, 20 years, when you go interview for a job, you're sitting up there on MySpace or Facebook, you got a big bottle of vodka in one hand, a cigar in one hand and two women underneath your shoulders. Next thing you know they look it up on the Web site, that may hurt you. To be honest, that could hurt you.'

I did some stuff in my past. But I didn't have Internet, so I got away with a lot.

"I did some stuff in my past. But I didn't have Internet, so I got away with a lot."

That Randy is an honest man, I think that is what draws players and parents to his program more than his coaching ability.
