orange 'n green in the vein

Alright, no more bashing Jitters (at least until next week). We all know he wasn't "developed" enough during his time here to handle a challenge from Mr. Football I or Mr. Football II or the CC's. Let's all remember the happy times, you know, the BC upset to make a bowl, sending Coker out a winner, Epps in the corner of the Doak. That's about two more big wins than Turf Face banked in his time here, and hey, don't sleep on Baylor . . . ah who am I kidding? I'm going to take a nice long nap, wake me up in 2011 when we start repeating every year.

orange 'n green in the vein

I meant Farr in the corner. Seems like the high points of Jitters career fade out quicker than others.

No, you were right, Jitters to Epps. It was Zampogna to Farr

Good points by most, alex good voice of reason when it comes to recruiting, that's normally and attribute reserved for esteban. Although we all do need to let the recruiting play out, it just goes to show the excitement that randy has brought back to UM, thus far, now if only we'll be able to be this excited after games.

When it comes to playing the gators this year, if you went man for man, the gators are just as young as we are, outside of tebow and harvin on offense and their other receivers, they are going to be kind of young along the o-line, that doesn't mean they won't be good, but they'll be young for sure their. Meanwhile from a d-line standpoint, technically right now as we speak, we're a lil more seasoned along the d-line vs their o-line.

Now when we go our o-line vs vs the gators d-line, once again, we're technically more seasoned along in the trenches in this match-up. So when it comes to the trenches, right now, advantage, US. When it comes to their db's vs our wide receivers, we can probably call it nuetral, but than again, sam shields vs any of their db's, advantage should be shields, be leonard hank, j-mac or aj on the otherside, right now i'd call it even.

Our db's vs the gators wide-outs, after dvd and bruce johnson, next up is chavez grant and with these 3, they have played in a good amounts of games. I'm getting to sleepy to finish, somebody grab the baton.

Luv it...

There will be another James in the University of Miami backfield soon.

On Saturday, Mike James, no relation to former UM star Edgerrin James or current junior Javarris James, became the latest running back to commit to the Hurricanes' 2009 signing class. He had made an unofficial visit to the school with his parents Friday after a three-hour drive from Polk County.

James (6-0, 212) ran for 1,108 yards and 15 touchdowns at Davenport Ridge High last season as a junior and is rated the No. 18 running back in the country by Rivals.com. He becomes the eighth junior to commit to UM since February and the second running back in the class, joining highly touted Bryce Brown, the younger brother of Hurricanes freshman linebacker Arthur Brown.

Like Brown, James said he is planning to graduate from high school in December and to enroll at UM in January so he can get a head start and participate in spring football.

This is my first year in the DEAD ZONE and
This waiting is driving me CRAZY! In the past and as a fan, I followed them on a weekly bases but never to this extent as a blogger on a daily bases.... coming into the season, I've never been more prepaired then today and I'm sitting here realizing that I still have 2 months to go to see the canes kick off... THIS REALLY SUCKS TO BE A CANES, RIGHT NOW... HAVING SO MUCH TO PROVE TO THE WORLD AND HAVING TO SIT HERE AND WAIT TO DO IT!!! I THINK I'LL GO TO THE DENTIST TODAY TO RELAX.... MAYBE A DEEP ROOT CANEL WITHOUT THE GAS!

GIVE ME STRENGTH!!!

Cane Since 1982

Cat,

Im sitting right beside you with every feeling you just expressed. Except the deep root canal for relaxation. Ill smoke blunt instead. That way ill pass out and there will only be 57 days left instead of 58.

Old Skool

Looks like Canez1 beat Canesport with the Rene Howard story.

Cavaleer

I am thinking this year will be a reflection of 1998. We'll be 9-3. McCarthy just getting into his own, and Morgan was the same way in 1998. We lose three but they are close. In 2009, we'll get famboozled out of a NC then play for one in 2010. Then repeat every year from 2011 on. How's that sound?

Posted by: Cane360 | June 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM

Question: What does Morgan have in common with McCarthy other than the color of his skin?

SuperCooper

The staff has never heard of Rene Howard, per an insider on Grassy.

Cavaleer

I know many of you will shudder at the thought but If I were Nix and planned to use the spread, I would watch Tebow and how proficient he has gotten last year... Then I would bring in the QB's and game study his moves and plays.... and maybe use a few... The best way to beat an opponent is to know their moves and use it against them!

Posted by: Cat5 Cane | June 30, 2008 at 09:25 PM

Cat, we dont' want to emulate any aspect of Oscar's offense except the long ball and maybe a crossing route here and there.

Otherwise, Marve and Jacory are not running the ball 20 times a game like T-Bone.

We have too many options to emulate Oscar's single-option, lol, last year.

CanesgirlNC

^^Cav - dunno, but watched him get trucked last year by Brandon Ore in Blacksburg - was not a pretty sight

Huh

Umm maybe they are both solid Linebackers who as sophmores going into their junior year have / had a huge upside. they both hold their positions and close it down. They both hit like animals, have the smarts to position themselves to make plays, never give up on a play.Ohh yeah, also, they are both white!

CanesgirlNC

A blog or so ago someone asked about Stoutland - I think it may have been Six - anyway ran into my friend who used to play for him at Michigan State - he was the long snapper. He said Stoutland liked his o-linemen to be around 310 - no heavier. He said he remembered them getting some huge o-lineman out of oklahoma that came in at 365 and Stoutland had him down to 315. He said Stoutland worked with special teams and would have them work out with the tight ends and wide outs when he thought they needed to be pushed

Cavaleer

360, don't take that the wrong way but it's something we do in this country all the bloody time. For example, the first thing people did with Shannon was compare him to Tony Dungy. WTF??? They don't even have the same skin-color. lol

Cavaleer

Huh, yeah, but so do several other LBs, although they're not sophomores. But the connection was a TOTAL non-sequitor.

Just checking you, if you're 360 that is. lol

And feel free to get hot under the collar.

Cavaleer

Huh, and last year I saw the same thing when the only player on the team near Morgan's ability was T. Good

nycanes25

Cav,

Who u think are the starting LB's? I got Sharpton, McCarthy and Cook in the middle. I think Sharpton is going to get a ton of sacks in the new scheme. I thnk Brown and Spence will be main backups along with Davis.

Canez1

IMO CMac needs to have a huge year to live up to all his white boy hype. I will give him a sophmore slide for the mess that was this D.

Moncur also needs to have a nasty year. I believe he was on the riht track before he got hurt. I expect big things from those two.

Last but not least we are going to need a big year from my boy Reddick. Those three guys really step it up this year and I think we have a better than expected season. If we don't get that we are in for a tough year unless someone unexpected really shines ex. Bailey, Ojomo, Spence, Sharpton, DVD, Armour....

For some reason I am not worried about the O this season! WTF is going on here?? We are in better hands without dikhead and fukface.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

CanesgirlNC

Canez1 - Love your adjectives! Also, Chavez Grant needs to step up.......

Canez1

NYC I think you are dead on with the LB starters. I think Adkins will play alot due to his blitzing prowess.

Young is going to have a thousand lineups out there to use our strengths to the max and also confuse and disorient the opposing O.

As much as I can't stand Cook in there, RS is going to have that dude on the field.

I hope to never see Romeo in a U uniform ever again. Those dudes(Cook and Romeo) IMO are remaining cancer and can't leave soon enough. TOO SOFT!!

I want some hard azz mutherfukers out there patrolling the middle of the field and knockin people the fukk out if they dare to come across the middle.

Mr. Brown is the next U badazz to be patrolling the middle and making people pay and think twice about things.

Bitter?? Nah!

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Canez1

CG I agree Grant needs to step up or step out. He has one highlight in his career and that is not enough around here. BHarris will be kicking down doors soon. Either step up or step aside. Your choice.

Club Cancer is closed!

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Jake

I have to agree that Spencer Adkins will get some PT due to his sacking ability. He reminds me of Javon Nanton..could possibly get 5-8 sacks imo.

nycanes25

Its all about Harris not Grant. We know what Grant is. Harris can be special. If Miami is going to be good this year Harris needs to step up right away and help take away the long ball.

nycanes25

Also this year I think its all about the Dtackles. We got to be able to stop the run. This is the time Dixon earns his NFL contract or not. Hendricks needs to stop getting hurt and Regis and Fortsen need to be able to get pentration.

Canez1

Jake I think that is going to be his niche. Dudes a physical freak but cannot pass cover! Gotta use him in some way and the best use for him is running downhill at the QB.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Canez1

NYC it used to be all about our DT's with the D we ran forever. IMO Young brings a totally new philosophy to this D. We were never a zone blitz D, ever. We have been a vanilla D, scheme wise, for as long as I remember. Which is fine when you have the horses, but is quickly picked apartwhen you don't.

The zone D takes the emphasis off any one pos. and spreads it throughout. The days of RS running the same basic D no matter what happens in the game is over. Young brings a whole new look and philosophy. This change will solidify this D this year and dominate teams in the future once the talent acclimates to the philosophy.

JMO of course. This is exactly what we have needed.

The O and D will mature this year and start to feed off of eachother(ex. scoring TD's off of turnovers and capitalizing on good field position). That is what dominating teams do! Once that happens watch the fuk out.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

nycanes25

Any system needs good Dtackles. You need to control the line of scrimmage.

Canez1

NYC You are right about controlling LOS. I am just saying we don't need the all world DT's we are used to in order to dominate on D.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Cat5 Cane

Cav
Talking of Marve, JH and Tebow... My thought on Tebow is one of the best QB's in 08 and why not pull from his experiences. It's right there on film and why not tap it if we can. Florida's biggest mistake last year was in not giving Tebow a alternate back to take the load off... which cost them several games in trying to ride Tebows back to NC... big mistake but Fla has addressed that issue this year with the incoming RB class.
Make no mistake, they are going to be a 3 headed monster in 08.

Esteban

I don't think its all about Harris or Grant. It's all about that unit as a whole. Neither Grant or Harris will be the shutdown guy. I'd say its more about DVD and/or Bruce Johnson developing into that shut down guy. The other guys just need to be solid and not blow their assignments and not miss tackles. They don't have to be all world making INTs and deflecting away every pass.

And DTs will be very important in stuffing the run. If they do a good job with that then we can keep the safeties away from the line of scrimmage. If they don't hold up at the point of attack we will have to compromise our pass defense.

Cat5 Cane

Assuming Young can get the best from our inexperienced defense, playing a new system, it will be a mountainous task to just hold Fla to 20/24 points... that being said, it will be even a greater task to see NIX put up 27/30 points to beat'em... but it can be done with the will to win! Look to Special Teams, RB's, WR's, and QB's (Ah hell with it, look to the whole team) for the biggest improvement over last year.

Jake

So, our we going to sign Lamar Miller or not? does anybody know? I have read that we are only taking two in this class.

CoCane

Jake,

Shannon & them said "fukk'em both". Lamar Miller & Jamaal Berry.

CoCane

Bryce Brown & Mike James, that's it.

Jake

is there a reason? did they wait too long, were they not going to make it academically? Or do they just like james better?
