2nd YEAH! GO CANES!

Carlos

I noticed that someone posted a snippet of this article on the last blog:

As UM tries to rebound from last year's 5-7 disaster, it's good to see alums and a prominent former coach reaching out to help. While several players have offered guidance to incoming freshmen, Jimmy Johnson offered advice to Randy Shannon, with Shannon visiting J.J. in the Keys this offseason.

''When you have a coaching change, some people blossom and some fall by the wayside,'' Johnson recounted telling Shannon, who played for J.J. at UM and worked on his Dolphins staff. ``I emphasized the importance of maximizing everybody on campus, whether it be one of the older players that can help on special teams. Make sure everybody contributes. If they don't feel like they can contribute with the new regime, then not only will there be some dissension, but [the coach] wouldn't be maximizing the talent.''

With so many promising freshmen, Shannon and his staff face challenges maintaining the focus of any older players who are beaten out by younger ones.

'I said to take a one-on-one conference with every one of those older players and ask them, `How can you help this team get better?' '' Johnson said. ``When they say, `Coach, I may not be a starting linebacker, but I know I can help on kickoff coverage, well you know they're going to bust their rear end to be the best they can be on kickoff coverage and they'll have a positive attitude, whereas if they get phased out, there's going to be some back-talking behind the scenes. You don't need that.''

Johnson -- who has been a sounding board for Shannon and advised him last year to ''keep a notepad of things you want to change'' -- was thrilled to see Bill Young hired as defensive coordinator. 'I said to Randy, `How in the world did you get Bill Young?' What he accomplished with Kansas, he'll do some outstanding things'' here.

Meanwhile, Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma reached out to freshmen Arthur Brown and Sean Spence, offering his cell number and mentoring. (Panthers linebacker Jon Beason did, too.) Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork reached out to Marcus Forston. Aldarius Johnson said he cultivated a friendship with Andre Johnson and has spoken with Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss.

UM alums take losing so hard than Beason was "in tears" during games last year. Vilma said last winter that what troubled him in recent years is ``guys not improving year to year. "You can't say it's all the talent."

But after working out with Canes players at 7 a.m. this summer and watching several (such as Allen Bailey) improve this spring, Vilma -- like others -- feels encouraged: ``You see everyone wanting to improve. I like Jason Fox's demeanor -- he will be a good leader.''

Vilma said if guys do not improve from year to year it's all the talent, coaching...yet to some people on our coaching staff, Coaching is overrated. lol.

I can't tell you how reassuring it is seeing Jimmy Johnson and Shannon together and the former Canes reaching out the current players. We need that now more than ever.

SOUP

Carlos...did the UMAA contact U today about tickets? I told them to!

SOUP

Sorry Old Skool, don't take it personally, just too far off topic and controversial for some.

Carlos

Carlos...did the UMAA contact U today about tickets? I told them to!

I didn't receive anything yet but thanks for looking out for me. :)

The Dude

Alot of "experts" are on the Florida bandwagon. Florida is good, but they are far from unbeatable! I'm not saying we are gonna win or lose, but Florida lost to Michigan. They were supposed to kill Michigan 100-3. They lost to Georgia. Not that Georgia sucks, but their offense is sort of one diminsional. They have loads of fast players that we should be concerned about. If we win, we win close.

We have to get back to Miami! F the playbook! Throw it away! It comes down to attitude. Swagger! I'm going deep and their aint a damn thing you can do about it! What did Lamar say? BOMBS AWAY!!!

SOUP

Ticket update:

CGNC and/or Solar...I have two FREE tickets for you for ANY UM home game U want to attend this year EXCEPT Wake Forest. Talk amongst yourselves and let me know which game U want to attend.

Ocala, Canechic and Angry...we have our tickets for the UM-UF game in Canesville locked in as of today! Pre-game UMAA party and the whole shebang. We are good to go!!!

Mitch and MM01...email me about TAMU. We have two tickets and pre-game party passes and you guys are gonna have to let me know what's up.

This is going to be a great year!

The Dude

One more thing, this year I predict we win every home game.

orange 'n green in the vein

That's a great point from the last blog, why can't the idiots who run the big teal box just lay down the name of the city the teams represent in the endzone? It just makes too much sense. Or would the rest of Florida bat an eye because the Marlins represent them as well?

The Dude

Lets face it, those are the kind of problems that teams have when they dont have their own stadium. It really shows the lack of foresight the University has had for years. When I am 50 years old it's gonna be weird routing for a team that still doesnt have its own stadium.

The Dude

By then though, Dolphin Stadium will be a dump. The Dolphin will have moved out, and the Marlins will be in Vegas, LOL! So maybe it will be truely "our house."

SOUP

OGV...I'm feeling a blog with your name on it?

bg1906 will have one when NCAA game comes out.

Cav is working on his 10-2 blog.

Carlos can U write up a 7-5 blog?

I'm working on 9-3 and week two of "The Keys To 2008".

bg1906

Posting this again for those that missed it.

***NCAA 09 UPDATE***

Canespace,

As promised, here is the link to my Sounds of The U page with the custom sound files designed to be used with the next gen (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of NCAA 09. Here you can preview the sounds as I created them and also download them for your own use in NCAA09 on either the Xbox 360 or the PS3. These files are to be used with the new Stadium Soundz feature of NCAA 09. This is a Miami Hurricanes specific set of sounds designed to provide that real home experience fans of the Canes! Please visit the site and listen to the sounds and let me know what you guys think. A link to this page will also be added to my U Want Some of This Section so that Canespacers will always have access to Sounds of The U!

http://mysite.verizon.net/bgaylor/ncaa09/

Thanks.

roachcane77

I too can't believe we didn't have a better "deal" established about stadium "setup."

What the F_ _ _?

Can't believe we don't at least get the "U" on the 50yd line.

It's an outrage... and a big oversight by whomever signed off on the "deal."

SOUP

Roach...our new AD Hocutt got the U put back in! It's all good.

Gaylord Hotels Music City
(ACC vs. SEC) Miami Hurricanes vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

as a 12% i know we will be playing in a bowl, but it wont be against spurier, it will be at home for the FedEx BCS game

darCANEgel

Legion, remember --- the City of Miami told us to go suck an Ibis...not the folk @ Dolphin Stadium...

They get:
> The U
> another 7 events of revenue
> PR for working with the CANES

We get:
> An A+ Field
> $2-2.5 million (that's an m) more in revenue b/c the City of Miami told us to go suck an Ibis
> a long term lease
> easy access for the Browd/ PB alums (now, you folk up there, you have no excuse not to come!)
> 2 extra hrs of tailgate time in the lots
> no more $20 no block

...and
...AND?
our rookie AD did get the U back on the center of the field...great article on MH.com about it --- check it.

Besides the infield dirt (which, although i love the Marlins and didnt care when it happened to the Fins -- sux) itzall good.

...but Braun's got 3 rbis and scored once...

HOO dem CANES!

Cavaleer

Carlos, GREAT post above. Shannon is not at all proud or vain. His hiring of Young proves that. Consulting the master himself confirms it.

CoCane, good question about the QB's. Where are Bernie and Walsh when you need them most. They can't be too far away.

Soup, your piece is coming.

Cavaleer

OGV, Mr. Football II's voice is deepening a little, I have to say. lol

But you're right about the 2-QB system. The only way it confounds defenses is if the QBs are different, like T-Bone and Green Eyes. lol

SOUP

Loco...I got your "content" for ya right over here! I guess the first "Key to 2008" (special teams) wasn't good enough for ya?

If Ohio State makes the title game again, I think I'm going to kidnap Brutus the Buckeye. Someone has to do something!

Alex D

That was a good move by Hocutt making them place the U back at midfield. However, what would be a better move would be if he could get Dolphin Stadium to cover up that baseball dirt infield for football.

dj moonbat

"However, what would be a better move would be if he could get Dolphin Stadium to cover up that baseball dirt infield for football"

Yeah, that made me mad when it was just the 'Fins, and I'm not a quarter the 'Fins fan that I am a 'Canes fan. Now that I have to watch the 'Canes on that "football" field in September, it's REALLY going to piss me off.

darCANEgel

no kidnapping, matt...just shoot Brutus...right in the center of that stupid friggin fat head of his...

if youre gonna kidnapp any f*hkeyes?

Grab the kid who "dots" the I before their homegames...

yeah, frig him and his tresselsweater, looser-@$$ dreams...

50 days, my bruthas

CANES, baaby

Cavaleer

Soup, you have mail.

Matthew

darC,

I figure the legal ramifications of mascot kidnapping are less than actual human kidnapping, so I'm just covering my legal bases.

I'll probably burn the Tresselsweaters too.

Looks like a familiar face is returning to Miami:

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/598176.html

Ex-Cane Jones set to come home - MiamiHerald.com.

Cane Since 1982

Soup or 86, Cat5 and evrey other Cane fan.

Who is making plans to attend the Aug 2nd Canes Fest/Practice? Who would like to meet up for a mid day beer after?

Cane Since 1982

Does anyone remember when that infield dirt single handedly cost the Dolphins a playoff appearance? Olindo Mare fell flat on his ass while trying to kick about a 30yd field goal on that dirt against the Patriots to win the game. We needed 1 more win that year and we would have been in.

Cane Since 1982

Rivals ranks Fresno State #23. Man do they & ESPN love the Cinderella stories.

Hurricane Mitch

86:

If MM01 can use the tickets to the A&M game, please give them to him. I'm having a hell of a time finding a reasonable priced flight and a place to stay. I have a friend that has 3 tickets to the same game. He said he would be more than happy to sell them to Canespacers at the face value.

canesrule

Distant seats, endzone seats, no logo, increased prices for a lagging fan base, playing on a dirt infield, gouged for parking, 30 minutes away from campus with CHOKING traffic, long time season ticket holders getting the shaft.....where does it end cane fan? Look at the bright side, there's now a concierge and Kohler toilets.

Who cares about the stupid jumbotron. I watch THE FIELD !! The greatest games any of us have been to didn't have a stupid jumbotron. Jumbotrons are just a way for them to hit you HARDER in the wallet.

"22,000 parking spaces" @ $20 each = 400k in Waynes pocket. Sadly only a fraction of those spaces will actually be filled. Look for Wayne to double the price to make up for it.

A concierge? A CONCIERGE ??? Your kidding right? I'm sure cane fan will be stopping by the concierge to book dinner reservations after getting their lunch handed to them 48-0. The CONCIERGE will be a long running EMBARRASSMENT.

Sit-down restaurants? PUHHLEASE... NOBODY cares about that crap if the team isn't WINNING. But at least cane fan will be able to dine on a nice grilled chicken breast sandwich for $27.

READ the above posts about what CANE FAN has to say about the new digs. IT'S AN EMBARRASSMENT. Cane fan who thinks this is an improvement is clearly out of their mind. You haven't seen the bottom yet silly cane fan.

82... I think this is an exclusive practice for ticket holders only!

Esteban

now thats a good idea.

Cane Since 1982

Cat5,

I know it is for ticket holders only. I am one and I figured there was probably a couple more of them on this blog. I was assuming you and 86 probably had season tix as well. (but you know what they say about assumptions)

CanesgirlNC

Solar - back to your last comment on the other blog - I never said "we" didn't look confused - but your prior comment said Shannon looked confused.....I would lay more of the blame on that (player confusion)on Walton which is why he is no longer around. To me, Shannon looked ticked off....anyway, as far as you wanting to be more "right than popular" - LOL who said you were either???? j-k
