I am thinking this year will be a reflection of 1998. We'll be 9-3. McCarthy just getting into his own, and Morgan was the same way in 1998. We lose three but they are close. In 2009, we'll get famboozled out of a NC then play for one in 2010. Then repeat every year from 2011 on. How's that sound?

Posted by: Cane360 | June 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM

Question: What does Morgan have in common with McCarthy other than the color of his skin?

Posted by: Cavaleer | July 01, 2008 at 01:02 PM

Aren't they both originally from pennsylvania?

Loco

Also, we're getting ready to start a big push at work, the biggest two weeks of the year, and I'm going to try to sell at least $10K in a 16 day period from July 7 through July 23, so I wont be around the blog a whole lot, because I'm going to be working a lot..

If anybody is interested in helping me out over the push, check out www.cutco.com and let me know if there's anything you're interested in. You can buy knives individually, or in sets. The shears are amazing, they cut through a penny. We also have hunting and fishing stuff, cookware, flatware, and even gardening tools. Everything can be engraved, and we have gift sets. Also, there is a forever guarantee, so everything lasts forever. If you might be interested, take a look at the website and email me at t.locrotondo@umiami.edu. (this would not only help me for my push, but it helps me get closer to a scholarship)
Thanks!

Ok ok, sorry about that 86, that's the last one I'll do. Also, I've got another article for you (the last in the set), look for an email in a day or so, I'll post on here after I've sent it

"The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life" by Jim Tressel. This book doesn't come out until July 15, but here's a sneak preview: "Chapter 1 -- I have always found that the best way to be successful is to avoid anyone or anything from the Southeastern Conference …"

loco,
Thanks for the articles. Better yet thanks for being honest in your personal evaluations.

SOUP

Loco...have at it, you have earned the right with to do a little PR with the quality content you bring here. THAT is stuff you can't find anywhere else.

A current UM student who is ON campus, attends class with and has actually played against these guys?

DarC is NOT easily impressed, trust me. He is now...he may even buy some of those $$$ knives to use on the Gators up in Canesville!

Thanks. But how could I not be honest? It doesn't do anybody any good to lie and talk people up, even if they aren't all that. The only thing I didn't add in the article is that I think I heard somewhere that Smith was playing his first year of high school football.. But I didn't look that up to confirm it, so I left it out. We also played his team much later in the season then Lewis...

But I agree with Supercooper; Micanor Regis should not have been a 3 star.

Just wait until rugby season starts back again then ;-) haha

but seriously thanks. And I'll see what I come up with for another article after the push, I may even get one done during it if I get an epiphany and am around a computer. But no promises. The next article should be ready soon though

nycanes25

Regis was a 3 star because he committed early and was not into the whole recruiting game. I dont even think he took any official visits. Lets face it, kids like that are not good for rivals, so he gets no love.

SOUP

Loco...I would buy some of those knives myself but I just spent all my $$$ on 2008 Canespace T-shirts. I've got a few with your name on them...

SOUP

NY...U have been doing some heavy lifting on the blog lately. Much appreciated!

Loco

good point ny, I didn't really think about that. Not only did Regis commit early, he said he was done with the recruiting game and would not change his mind, so there was never speculation

Ummm, Colin McCarthy is from Clearwater - I don't know if he was born in Penn, but I know he played his high school ball here.

Morgan and McCarthy wore (wear) the #44. It's a tradition among white LB's in football. Started by Brian Bosworth I believe.

That's alright, business before pleasure. I've got a list of things to buy when I have the money, and after the push I will. At least one of each Canespace t-shirt (XL) and Cat5's stickers are on that list

Six

Although, I know that at Syracuse, the #44 is retired. It was worn by Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little - who were all running backs.

Six

Also, Colin Mac was promised he'd get the #44 during the recruiting process. Like I said before, I'm about 99% sure it was a tradition started by Brian Bosworth in college football the #44 to be worn by white bad-ass linebackers and carry on the tradition.

Six

Brian Urlacher also wore #44 in college at New Mexico.

SOUP

Six...what's shakin' in Tampa? Rays???

Nice write-up Loco! Great work.

solarcane

Dan Morgans dad,

"A cherished part of Morgan's world is an old T-shirt worn by former Oklahoma linebacker Brian Bosworth, winner of the first Butkus Award and Morgan's idol since his Pop Warner days. Morgan is nothing like the brash, self-promoting Bosworth -- except when he's playing.

"His persona left quite an impression on Dan," his father said. "He's quite the opposite of (Bosworth) off the field, but on the field, he's vicious. He talks. He runs his mouth sometimes. If somebody jaws at him, believe me, he can dish it back."

86 - You know it. Just left the Trop and back at the station, saw the $43.8 Million dollar DRays beat the $133.4 Mill dollar Red Sox AGAIN. They're now 2 1/2 games up on them and are atop the AL EAST .. and depending the outcome of the Cubs/Giants game, the Rays have THE BEST record in baseball. Not too bad for a team that has never been above .500 in their 10 years of existence. For some reason the Rays can't win up at Fenway, but when they're down at the Trop (or THE PIT as the team calls it), the Red Sox can't win. If the Red Sox get beat again tomorrow (game is on ESPN), then they'll have been swept twice by the Rays down here.

Not bad for a team that has the 2nd lowest payroll in all of baseball ($43.8 Mill), but still twice as much as the Marlins ($21.8 Mill) - which is mind boggling to me why ownership doesn't spend at least as much as the Rays do.

Don't know if you caught what I wrote in the last blog, but I'll be covering the Hillsborough/Pinellas/Manatee/Pasco and other surrounding counties high school football heavily come season time. Major programs here like Plant, Armwood, Lakeland, Jefferson, Chamberlain, Countryside, Dunedin, CCC (where Colin Mac came from), etc. I'll be helping cover at least 9 games every Friday night. Got to talk to a bunch of local coaches and get the low down on the studs in our area. Found out about Orson Charles moving to play a lot more Split End, and a lot less Tight End - Plant is basically taking it out of their scheme. Also got a lot of funny lowdown on Matt Patchan Jr. that makes me glad the 'Canes didn't get him. According to one of the coaches, he wasn't surprised at all that Patchan Jr. was in the wrong place at the wrong time, he even said that we should expect to hear more "incidents" that Patchan Jr. will get into.

Guys like micanor regis and harland gunn, committed early, didn't want or take other visits and just came on in and started going to work. Also, to back up nyCanes point, harland gunn was a 3 star coming out as well, although somehow he was still invited to play in the us army all star game where he was man-handling marvin austin.

It's fun watching this staff go to work, now, we'll see what happens next, right now, the college football world knows us as the HURRICANES, for us, the real reality is, we've been downgraded to a tropical storm. The storm is definitely starting to pick up though, it's just sitting out their over the ocean, keep your eye on it though.

As far as the season goes, i'm not concerned with what our record will be, i'm more concerned with how we look when we play. In other words, i can care less about barely winning against teams like houston and 4th quarter interceptions to end games against neveda, that's not what i want to see, yeah we won those games but who here liked watching that game, it was bullshat, wasn't UM football.

Win loose or draw, as long as we get back to playing our attacking style of ball, offensively and defensively where teams can't feel confident against us in nothing that they are doing, that's what i'm looking for. Aggression, 3rd & 43 tpe aggression. LET'S GO!

Calvin

You know, i've left this alone for a while now, i know it may have been spoken of before, but for some reason it just looks more ridiculous now than ever.

To recruit, turf face in 2003(1-qb) than in 2004 jitters(1-qb)

Than 2005 no qb's of course they didn't want to come, than 2006 dan stegall, i mean seriously, WTF type of dumb azz is that. I mean, you'd have to have a crystal ball to know 1st off that none of them would get hurt, and that's a real big chance you taking. Next, who's to say the 1 you recruiting is going to turn out to be worth a damyum in the 1st just because he was supposedly ranked as the best qb coming out of highschool.

When shannon said our rosters numbers aren't right, he wasn't bullshatting, in fact, that was probably the understatement of the year. I mean, so now what shannon had to do was load up on qb's, had no choice. How you gone come in knowing are known as quarterback U, and barely have 2 qb's on the roster at a time. Hell, it's inappropriate to call turf & jitters quarterbacks, mofo's could even play good for 1 quarter.

solarcane

six, good posts as usual, thanks for sharing your stuff
peace

Calvin

Them mofo's should be listed on the roster like this, kyle wright No 3. position-sb
kirby freeman No. 7 position-sb

Instead of quarterbacks, them mofo's were series backs, good for a 1 series every now and than.

UM offensive coordinator Patrick Nix, who hopes UM's new talent allows him to be less conservative than last year, assuredly knows there will be serious fan scrutiny in Year 2. But ''coaching is overrated,'' he asserts. ``A lot of guys will tell you they're the best coach in the world, and that's why they win. If they're winning, they've got players, and that's the bottom line.''

"coaching is overrated"

This guy is cokerized and anyone that agrees with the statement should just stop watching football altogether.

Carlos...U missed a really good blog where U were mentioned:

"Remember back to when the now infamous Carlos was the Anti-Christ? Well, we met Carlos at several Canespace pre-game parties at The Titanic (Cat5 and OcalaCane seen here in our usual pre-game hangout) and he has become one of our best friends and supporters."

"Ponce, Alpharetta and others who have dared to remove their ORANGE and GREEN glasses just for a moment and call it like the see it (even when not so good) have also been heavily criticized for their negative views."

86, what's up man. Props for finally getting Lamar Thomas on here. It was a great article.

What happened now to Rudy from ITU.com? lol

Carlos

and thanks for the shout-out on the last blog.

Debates are good. It keeps everything in perspective....but this last statement from Nix....what do you think? because I swear this guy must be trolling all of his haters..me included. :D

sorry for the double post

I don't know folks, the defense is looking kind of shaky to me. I see a lot of youth starting, and backing up at some key positions. I'll just chalk it up and say that this is really RS's first season, looking at how he had to scramble around for recruits and a coaching staff his first year on the job. I think the offense and maybe special teams will be the strenghths of this 08' team. But then again, looking at how the offense has performed these last few seasons, and the impotency of STs since Hester left, that I'll take a couple of shootout wins by far.

AvaCane96

i think coaching is overrated to an extent...u need tools at ur disposal to do wut u gotta do. put "insert the best coach here" at FIU and see how many games he would win. u need players too. u wont win with just a great coach. to me, the player is slightly more important than the coach. with the players we got now, i think just about any o-coord would do fine.

Calvin

Look, i'm one to take the wait and see approach on nix for now, because it's hard to judge an offensive coordinator with to scared qb's, the x/supposedly #1 receiver had alligator arms, quit on routes, the o-line was average, even with that, you could see the good and bad of nix, with that being said, what nix just said, for the most part, he's right.

What nix meant and said is no differnet than what jimmy johnson meant and said when he was coaching, he said he doesn't consider himself to be a great coach, he just knows how to pick/elvaluate great players. So on this, so far nix is on point.

Of all the coaches who have won national championships, if you sent them to below average programs they would continue to loose until they started bringing in top flight talet, case inpoint, rutgers. We all know how they got put on the map, he keeps trying to dig into here. Right now as an offensive coordinator it's hard to offend or defend him at this point, time will tell though.

I do however like the fact that nix now has made it so, whether he realizes it or not, but he seems to be hinting to the fact that he can be as aggressive as he wants to be from this point on, ok, let's see and i beilieve he will be, why, because 1st off, it starts with the player and his mindset, if the player is confident in his abilities, than at some point, a coach will have confidence in that player to open up the whole playbook, with marve's work ethic and study habits, and getting on the same page with nix, they both know what needs to happen at almost al situations, so nix want be hesitant to call a certain play that is aggressive.

Same wit if jacory comes in the game. According to what's going on in the 7 on 7's, you already know marve is their as well as jacory, i'm sure canon is their, i mean what else is he doing. It's good hearing the progression of the team right now. Also i was thinking the other day, and i'll ask yall, who do you think will get jerzee #1, brandon harris or marcus robinson.
