Kyle Jolly On the upcoming game at Miami: "They are young, fast and they bring a lot of pressure toward the quarterback. Any game is an opportunity for us to improve and get a win on our record."
Mark Paschal on the upcoming game at Miami: "Miami is a good team, they beat Texas A&M soundly last Saturday. It is going to be another challenge defensively. They have a lot of talent and speed, but they are little young and inexperienced."
Quarterback Mike Paulus: "My job is to go in there and finish it off and run my drives and put points on the board. The first one (interception), I'd say yeah I forced it. We had little bit of a drive going there, completed a few passes, had a nice couple runs. When he (Yates) came off he told me let's go let's finish it. I recognized all of them (blitzes) as soon as they came, I tried to get rid of them fast as I could some of them I couldn't. I've just got to play faster and get it out of my hand."

thos are pretty funny names... props to solarcane on the post

I beleive the canes will win this weekend but I have one pretty big concern...
I have the feeling that Butch is going to throw something at Jacory when he comes in to confuse him and potentially force a turnover/big play on D. I think we should let Marve stay in until it is out of hand. Just one mans opinion though...

Five Former Hurricanes to be Inducted into UM's Ring of Honor: Miami football greats to be honored at halftime of the Miami-Virginia Tech game on Nov. 13
Sept. 25, 2008
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and head football coach Randy Shannon have announced the selection of five new members to the UM Football Ring of Honor. Former Hurricanes Edgerrin James, Jim Kelly, Cortez Kennedy, Jim Otto and Gino Torretta will all be placed in the Ring of Honor during halftime of Miami's home game against Virginia Tech on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Dolphin Stadium.
"The University of Miami has a football legacy that rivals that of any program in the country, and this group exudes the success and excellence that is synonymous with the U" Hocutt said. "All five inductees have had a great amount of success in life - on and off the football field."
The selection of UM's Ring of Honor members is determined by the director of athletics and head football coach, in conjunction with an anonymous advisory committee.
Criteria used in the selection process include athletic achievements at UM and at the professional level, commitment and loyalty to the continued success of the university and its athletic department and a personal commitment to courage, fortitude, honesty and integrity.
"We have had so many great players play at the University of Miami, and it's never an easy decision when it comes to adding to our Ring of Honor," Shannon said. "A tremendous group has been selected for this next induction.
"Their accomplishments during their time at Miami greatly contributed to the success of this football program," Shannon added. "They truly understand what it means to be a Miami Hurricane."

Truth, what's happening with USC??
LT and Butkus have to be the two most imposing, best and memorable uniforms/presence in the history of the NFL.
Those two in their uniforms with those numbers just say it all.

The Ring of Honor was established during the 1997 season as a way to recognize the outstanding players that have passed through the Hurricane Football program. This becomes the third class to be inducted. The initial class was made up of Mira, Dooley, Hendricks and Testaverde while the second class of Anderson, Bosseler, Kosar and Owens was inducted in 1999.
A special luncheon featuring the new Ring of Honor inductees will be held the day of the game, Thursday, November 13, from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club at 19999 West Country Drive in Aventura, Fla. Luncheon tickets may be purchased for $100 per person. To purchase tickets or for more information, please contact the University of Miami Hurricane Club at (305) 284-6699.

THE GAME
Miami begins a stretch of three consecutive home games Saturday when the Hurricanes host North Carolina in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2. The Hurricanes will play four of their next five games at Dolphin Stadium.
The Hurricanes are coming off of one of their best offensive games on the road in three years when Miami defeated Texas A&M, 41-23, at Kyle Field last Saturday. Miami's 41 road points were the most since a 47-17 win at Wake Forest on Nov. 6, 2005.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Robert Marve will make his third collegiate start against the Tar Heels. Marve tossed his first two career touchdowns against the Aggies - his first a 26-yarder to true freshman Thearon Collier and his second to senior Kayne Farquharson from 15 yards out. Marve completed 16-of-22 passes for 212 yards.
The Hurricanes and the Tar Heels both enter the contest 2-1. In three games, Miami has allowed just 225 rushing yards (75 per game and 2.4 per carry). North Carolina¡¦s offense has been explosive with 1,069 yards (356.3 yards per game and 6.1 yards per play).
Defensively, the Hurricanes are ranked 26th nationally in overall defense and 17th in rushing defense through the first three games. Miami is yielding just 18.7 points per game and 277.7 yards per game. Against Texas A&M, linebacker Glenn Cook led the team with nine tackles, one for a loss and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Cook leads the team with 18 tackles.

USC is down, but gonna come back...
Posted by: SOUP | September 25, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Im not criticizing but thats sloppy 86. Mack Brown had that program rolling before he left for Texas, back to back 10 win seasons.
Am if I am negative, I guess the whole blog is. I never seen complain more about garbage time in the 4th quarter of a blowout. The game was never close in the 4th quarter.

THE OPPONENT:
North Carolina dropped its first game of the season last Saturday as Virginia Tech rallied to defeat the Tar Heels, 20-17, in an ACC Coastal Division matchup. UNC outgained the Hokies 307-268, but the Tar Heels commited 14 penalties and had three turnovers in the loss.
Quarterback T.J. Yates has completed 40-of-66 passes for 623 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. Yates completed 11-of-18 passes for 181 yards and one TD against the Hokies. Receiver Brandon Tate has been dynamic for the Tar Heels with 11 catches for 297 yards and three TDs. He leads the nation and ACC in all-purpose yards with 797 (141 rushing, 297 receiving, 141 punt returns and 218 on kickoff returns while accounting for five total touchdowns. Running back Greg Little has 179 yards on 50 carries and two scores.
Defensively, the Tar Heels are led by linebacker Mark Paschal with 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception. Fellow linebacker Quan Sturdivant is second with 27 tackles and an interception. The Tar Heels have intercepted seven passes and forced eight turnovers.

Ill be at the game this weekend. Anybody know what the forecast is going to be for the game?
Posted by: nycanes25 | September 25, 2008 at 10:17 PM
THE SERIES:
North Carolina holds a slight 6-5 edge in the all-time series between the two schools. Since Miami joined the ACC in 2004, UM and UNC have split four match-ups with the 'Canes winning back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006 and UNC winning in 2004 and 2007. The series between the two programs dates back to 1946.
THE COACHES:
Randy Shannon is 7-8 and is in his second season at Miami. North Carolina's Butch Davis is 6-9 in his second season with the Tar Heels.
MIAMI VS. THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA:
The University of Miami is 32-17-1 all-time versus teams from the state of North Carolina. Since UM joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2004, the Hurricanes are 8-3 against teams from the Tar Heel State. Prior to two late season losses to N.C. teams last season, the Hurricanes had seven straight wins against the state from late 2004 to early last year.
Prior to Miami joining the ACC, the `Canes rarely faced teams from North Carolina, playing just four games against N.C. teams from the time Dennis Erickson took over the program in 1989 to the team's last year in the BIG EAST in 2003. Over that 15-year span, UM faced East Carolina three times and NC State once.

BUTCH IS BACK:
Saturdays game marks the first time that current UNC head coach Butch Davis will coach a collegiate game in Miami since the former UM head coach left for the NFL following the Hurricanes' 2000 season. Davis, who coached the Hurricanes for six seasons (1995-2000), compiled a record of 52-20 in Coral Gables, including an 11-1 mark and a Sugar Bowl victory over Florida in his final season at UM. After coaching the Cleveland Browns for four seasons, Davis returned to the collegiate ranks last year to take over the Tar Heel program.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE:
When UM hosts UNC on Saturday, it will be 30 days since UM's last home game - the `Canes season-opener against Charleston Southern on Aug. 28. The last time the Hurricanes had that much time in between home games was during the team's national championship season in 2002 when, after an Oct. 12 home game versus Florida State, the team had a bye week followed by three straight away games at West Virginia (10/26), at Rutgers (11/2) and at Tennessee (11/9). The Hurricanes finally hosted a game again that season on Nov. 21 against Pitt, 40 days after the FSU contest the previous month.

UM Baseball's 2008 Signing Class Ranked Seventh Nationally: Collegiate Baseball Newspaper recognizes Miami as the ACC's top signing class this year
Sept. 23, 2008
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami baseball team's 13-member 2008 signing class has been ranked as the No. 7 class nationally by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's annual evaluation of NCAA Division I baseball classes.
Five pitchers and eight position players make up this year's UM class that includes nine players from South Florida, one from Central Florida and three from the state of Texas. All three players from the state of Texas enter the program via junior colleges, while nine of the 10 freshmen hail from either Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties.
Arizona State - with a 20-player recruiting class - has been tabbed as the nation's top group, followed by Oregon, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Georgia to round out the top five. The Hurricanes come in just ahead of fellow Atlantic Coast Conference teams Florida State and Clemson who rank eighth and ninth respectively.
Five of the UM's 13 signees were selected in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, including Chris Herrmann (Tomball, Texas), who was taken in the 10th round by the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to Herrmann, Harold Martinez (Miami) was taken in the 19th round by the Baltimore Orioles, Taylor Wulf (Santa Fe, Texas) was chosen in the 29th round by the Atlanta Braves, Scott Lawson (Grapevine, Texas) was taken in the 40th round by the Houston Astros and Daniel Miranda (Miami) was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 50th round.
