The University of Miami Alumni Association (UMAA) offers fantastic benefits to former students and graduates throughout the year. One of these benefits is the sponsoring of Hurricane Game Watch Parties (GWPs) at multiple locations across the United States during football season every week.
I had the opportunity to attend the Orlando area Game Watch event held at O'Boy's BBQ in Winter Park this past Saturday for the Texas A&M game. And oh, what an event it was! Over 40 orange and green clad Canes fans packed into one side of the large restaurant to enjoy the game, share stories of seasons gone by and offer their insights into the Canes performance this year.
The UMAA Orlando area coordinator, Mark McKay, has been holding events at this location for six years and trust me, the man knows what he is doing. With two large screen TVs and several smaller sets tuned into the UM game and tons of great food and beverages available we were in Hurricane heaven!
Best of all, the Canes managed to please their fans on this Saturday in September dominating the game and crushing the Aggies 41-23. If you ever get the chance to make it to a GWP at O'Boy's BBQ in Winter Park we highly recommened that you do!
To reach Mark or the UMAA email: [email protected] or [email protected].
Here are some photos from the event:

More from Manny Navarro:
Marve named ACC Rookie of the Week:
Robert Marve's big day in Texas has been rewarded with ACC Rookie of the Week honors. Marve, making his second career start, completed 16-of-22 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in helping lead Miami to a 41-23 win over the Aggies. He threw his first career touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the first half – a 26 yarder to freshman receiver Thearon Collier. Marve completed 13 of his first 16 passes. For the game, he completed 72.7 percent of his passes and had a passer efficiency of 174.58.
Glenn Cook was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after he picked up a season-high nine tackles – one shy of his career-high – and returned a fumble for a touchdown. It was his second career fumble return for a TD. He knocked the ball loose, picked it up and ran it back two yards for a touchdown in the third quarter giving the Hurricanes a 41-10 lead. He also had a half tackle for loss. Cook leads the Hurricanes with 18 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

are the official redshirts in yet? if so, anybody got the scoop on who all will be sitting this year?
Posted by: hurriphin302 | September 22, 2008 at 07:26 PM
Hurri...not sure, but a good question. Apart from Streeter we have NOT heard the official announcement yet.
I'll check on it for U...
Posted by: SOUP | September 22, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Here's a question:
Was that Boss Man Shannon running along the sidelines with Epps after he made that catch and run in the 3rd Quarter? (6:07-6:13 in the Youtube highlight).
As for C-Mac .. not only has he made some nasty hits on Special Teams, he helped cause that fumble by Jerrod Johnson (with Steven Wesley) in the 3rd Quarter that Cook deflected and scooped up for a TD. He's a Jr. He'll only get better.
Was good seeing Micanor Regis getting in there with some PT. The more time the baby 'Canes get, the scarier they'll be very very soon.
The future with Ojomo, Big Allen Bailey, Steven Wesley, Regis, Forston, etc. going to be straight up nasty.

Hey...
Who came closest to guess the score outcome?
Mine was 37 to 6, I think?
Cat5
Posted by: Cat5 Cane | September 22, 2008 at 08:02 PM
CAT5,
I predicted 48-10 we were close to getting that for about 35 min. Then TAMU scored late 3rd and 4th, and we got our touchdown brought back because Gordon has ants in his pants! GO CANES!
Posted by: NavyCane4Life | September 22, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Thank you to coach Nix for taking off the training wheels in Aggie-land. To the coaches and players...keep having fun and growing week-to-week... Oh, and coach Nix, please throw to Epps a couple more times per game. All in all. Great game on Saturday and plenty to build on. Go Canes!
Posted by: CanezNC | September 22, 2008 at 08:15 PM
Cat5...not sure? Someone will have to research it. But your score was off by 21 points total so I wouldn't worry about it.
LOL

Soup, why does CBS rarely, try once, show something about The U???
They have a special about ONE DAMM FIU PLAYER WHO WAS INJURED but nothing about the U's games, not the openeer in TNP, not the UF slugfest, not the A&M route.
But every Monday I look up and see something about H.S. and the Phins??
WTF is up with that?? If they would advertise the U segments anywhere, why not here?

Number 3 the big guy, he told me that is where he watches the games, so I think it is him. Esquire you out there to confirm?
Posted by: canechic | September 22, 2008 at 08:31 PM
BTW, Greg Schiano has to be the college football dufus of the decade for turning down the UM job. He stayed at Rutgers to turn the Scarlet Nights into a powerhouse? Greg, you can't even retain the best players in your own state (Moreno/GA, Cushing/USC, Toal/BC, Monroe/UVA, Hendricks/Miami, etc.). What were you thinking? You could have been coaching the best talent in the nation...South Florida's finest. Your loss...Randy's (and UM's) gain.

"Some guys are down on C-mac, I think he may end up the special teams player of the year though, he has laid out some tremendous blocks on returns and is always right around the ball."
Solar,
I am one of the main ones down on cmac...pro-bowl ability but makes some boneheaded decisions at LB way to frequently.
BUT he is by far the best special teams player on the country...yes, COUNTRY. That kid is a killer.
I'd love to see him use his head a little better and stop getting out of position...

Greg Schiano is an Italian restaurant here in Pittsburgh. Food is decent, but just can't hang with the big boys.

Nix ran a lot of the same stuff this game as he did against UF. Just worked this week. And then eventually he did things like on the TD pass where the guy was wide open cause he set up that play. still he ran that WR screen at least 10 times. same with the run play where they pulled Jason Fox from the backside (which should have worked against UF since it was blocked properly a few times with the RB not following the block correctly so it ended up just a short gain). but can tell that a few plays will be the staple plays of the offense. just gotta keep adding the wrinkles off those plays like he did a lil this week. UNC's defense is definitely better than A&M's so will be a good test leading up to FSU which got a better Defense than UNC. and i'll be honest, i feel bad for Yates, but i don't mind him being hurt since there is a big difference from his play to Paulus' play. i ain't above beating teams without there best players. that's just how it goes. we've lost before cause someone important got hurt (mcgahee for example) so it balances out over the years.

Wow...something tells me something REAL bad is about to happen to Thomas Jones of the Jets.

Be the first to own a new Nissan Schiano, Car and Driver's 2009 Car of the Year!!!
Posted by: SOUP | September 22, 2008 at 09:48 PM
And that is EXACTLY why este should ALWAYS be blobber of the fricken year...
Nothing special there Saturday...I was fishing for it the other day but none of these guys bit. The Turds D, despite Cavs crazy ass opinion (j/k Cav) grew up and is pretty damn good this year. A&M, not so much BUT Marve played better and made the throws he missed against UF. Once that happens and confidence goes up, Nix has the ability to play a little and set things up.
As his players grow up Nix will look like a genius ALA Coker in 2000 with his pro-set, boring ass, oh-by-the-way-our-players-are-so-good-we-just-dropped-50-on-you offense.
