The last time your Miami Hurricanes saw the Virginia Cavaleers in 2007 they were getting embarrassed at home and losing their last game in the Orange Bowl 48-0. Recently interviewed Head Coach Randy Shannon says that this year's UM team is not interested in getting "revenge" for last year.
Yeah, and Sarah Palin and Michele Obama are best drinking buddies, the Red Sox love the Yankees and the the fundamentals of the economy are still strong.
Miami hits the road for its first of three road games in the month of November when the Hurricanes travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on ACC Coastal Divisional leader Virginia. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Scott Stadium. The game will be televised on Raycom Sports.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 16-10 win over Wake Forest to run their winning streak to three games. Redshirt freshman quarterback Robert Marve accounted for 209 of the 296 yards gained on offense in the win. He completed 11-of-20 passes for 153 yards and ran nine times for 56 yards with first career rushing touchdown. He was named ACC Rookie of the Week Monday.
Marve became the eighth different freshmen to score a touchdown for Miami this season and 17th different Hurricane overall. His play has gradually improved while his QB counterpart and best buddy Jacory Harris have traded turns being the Hurricanes Hero of the week.
Sophomore kicker and hard hitting tackler Matt Bosher connected on three field goals against the Demon Deacons including a career-long 52-yarder. He has made eight field goals in a row and is 12-of-13 on the season. He is a perfect 28-of-28 in PATs.
Defensively, senior linebacker Glenn Cook leads the team with 50 total tackles which includes a team-best seven tackles for loss. Safety Anthony Reddick has 49 tackles while linebacker Darryl Sharpton has 45 tackles on the season.
In four ACC games, UM has been tough to stop offensively. The Hurricanes lead the ACC in scoring offense with 32.0 points per game. The Hurricanes are 38th nationally in scoring offense (30.5 points per game). The Hurricanes did not allow a score in the second half against the Demon Deacons and have allowed just 14 points in the second half of the last two games.
Virginia (5-3, 3-1 ACC Coastal) won on the road at No. 17 Georgia Tech, 24-17, to extend its winning streak to four games. The Cavaliers have rattled off wins against Maryland, East Carolina, North Carolina and the Yellow Jackets after dropping its first and only Atlantic Coast Conference game to Duke on the road.
Junior quarterback Marc Verica threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns against Georgia Tech. Verica is completing 67 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 1,281 yards. RB Cedric Peerman has rushed for 541 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 attempts. Linebacker Jon Copper leads the team with 67 tackles while Clint Sintim has 49 tackles and a team-high 9.5 sacks.
This will be only the sixth game between the two schools, with Miami holding a 3-2 lead in the series. Virginia has won the last two meetings over the Hurricanes - a 17-7 win in Charlottesville in 2006 and a 48-0 win in Miami last season.

Malzahn is the new name for the week?
I don't understand why we all get so caught up with the latest Offensive Coordinator?
Success in one place doesn't equate to a new university. Factors like team culture, head coach influence, etc. are bigger than we think.
Spurrier's offense @ South Carolina doesn't scare anyone.
Chow's offense @ UCLA doesn't strike fear.
While it's the pro game, Kuetter's offense in the Smelly City (Jacksonville - my hometown) isn't keeping DC's up all night.
Hell, Miami's most prolific offenses came when Larry Coker was the OC, yet I haven't read about anyone clamoring for his return.
So ask yourself this?
If Nix is here two seasons from now, will we be blaming him if Robert Marve doesn't amount to what we hoped? Or, if there is a new OC two seasons from now and Robert Marve doesn't amount to what we hoped, will we blame the program for not providing stability for a player of Marve's caliber. Either way, we’ll second guess the program, and that is unfortunate.
Recruiting is a numbers game, and for every Kyle Wright (top rated HS QB who turns out to be a bust) there is a Steve Walsh (unheralded QB that wins a National Championship).
Shannon truly understands this.
If Marve or Jacory or Cannon Smith or that tall kid Taylor Cook or Matt Perilli or No. 69 walk-on QB turned long-snapper Jake Byrne don't work out, hasn’t Shannon’s recruiting and discipline given us confidence that he will get kids to come to the U and compete – including quarterbacks. Hasn’t he guaranteed that there will be no free passes to anyone.
Just ask Arthur Brown!
So, before we go calling for the next fad, give this thing called a football program some time. If not, I hear Greg Schiano might be available next year.

Congrats to the Phillies - they effectively shut down the Rays #3 and #4 hitters.
Guess the 3rd time is the charm for them in finally beating a Tampa team to win a Championship.
- Bucs beat the Iggles in NFC Championship, to go on to win the Super Bowl
- Lightning beat the Flyers in Eastern Conference Championship, to go on to win the Stanley Cup
- Phillies beat the Rays to win the World Series

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed.
Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the
truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it w as tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like
other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and
didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time
studying.
Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'
She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.'
Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and
certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired
back, 'That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the Republican party.'

From Bruce Feldman. Interesting:
• Al Groh sure seems to do pretty well in what has become a familiar underdog role. When oddsmakers listed Miami as an early one-point favorite this week, it marked the 11th straight game dating to the 2007 season in which Virginia had been the underdog against Division I-A opposition, writes Doug Doughty:
"The Cavaliers have won eight games as an underdog over the past two seasons but may not have that opportunity this week. By Tuesday, early action shifted the line, making the Cavaliers two-point favorites."

that story would be great if republicans didn't support corporate welfare - which most key democrats do too.

86 its impossible at this point and you know it.
There is very little exchange of ideas, there is only an opinion followed by ridicule and insults.

But I'm telling you as a guy who has been here and on the Sentinel site since day one, this blog now sucks. And its because it's dominated by a few who have never, ever learned how to play well with others.

Hello everyone, I've been busy lately and have not had time to post but I still read the dumases (Carlo's) posts: LEGAL DISCLAIMER TO MANAGEMENT: I in no way am insulting this person but addressing his alter ego who takes over his posts of stupidity and pure bias over Nix.
My take is very simple. THE LINE THE LINE. Offensive Lines and Defensive lines are what win games. PERIOD!!!! When the offensive lines open up holes the backs will look like Edgerin and Mcgahee and our QB will have time to dissect the D. Our Wr's will have the luxury to make mistakes and correct them on the fly. On the other side the D will be able to drop back into zone and with the pressure provided by the front 4 will be in prime position to break on the ball.
What I'm trying to say is stop bashing on Nix and stay positive like most are on this blog knowing that this is a young team. Or man up and say the obvious, here I'll help you "I (fill in your name) don't like Nix or Shannon and being too d@mn proud or hard headed will always knock at them till the one day I can yell that I was right or if I'm proven wrong I'll blow it off and never man up" cause all of us educated individuals on this blog know how nasty human nature can be. We try to call it pride but in reality it's plain stupidy.
And I'm not bashing anyone. But like the saying goes "if the shoe fits weart it". GNTampa...

dtx, i would never want norm chow coming to UM, i'd take soldinger over chow any day. To me, norm chow is overrated, when he was in utah up at byu, he ran an offense that took advantage of the thin air up their. Anybody wh's ever been to utah or colorado know exactly what it's like trying to breathe up their the 1st few days. So he ran alot of short routes, which tires a defense out, that's how they beat us back when we were #1, we couldn't breathe, offensively they couldn't stop us, but defensively we couldn't stop them either, no air.
Than he goes to uc, where they get the top cali talent and coordinates in a non-defensive conference, yall saw what happened when they played v-tech in the opener that year, if v-tech had any offense they would have beat them that year.
You'll never see me know where advocating we bring in norm chow.
esteban, i hope you're right about nix adapting by being around shannon and company. The one thing nix never anticipated was how strong the presence of alumni is at UM. They're definitely going to challenge his way of thinking and force him to understand he needs to stay aggressive.
The nix norm chow comparisons, save that for next year, but i'll say this, if you're an oc, and you have an offense that's been ranked in the 100's one year and hovering around the 100's again the next year, you be able to put excuses on your resume as to why that happened.
This game coming up will be on nix's shoulders, bill young knows what he's doing, that's evident, our defense would be ranked a lil higher if we had consistent offense. I'm waiting for nix to make a believer out of me, let's see what he shows us this game coming up. Remember, this was his worst coached game last year, so damyum whether the players want revenge, the main one needs to be nix, he should try and score 100.
Posted by: Calvin | October 30, 2008 at 01:21 AM
Calvin, I hope I am right too. Will mean more wins for the team. I think u can already see some adjusting but the question is will it be enough and will the culmination come soon enough?
