Your Miami Hurricanes won a huge game today against their ACC rival Duke Blue Devils, 49-31.
The Duke players, who wore these really pretty blue dresses to start the game, were knocked down and knocked up by the men in with the U on their helmets.
Well, not really, but if U watched the second half of the game it might have seemed that way.
The Canes took a 7-0 lead early but then proceeeded to stall and go down to Duke 17-7 in the first half after several costly mistakes by starting shaky and inconsistent QB Robert "I Am Not So" Marvelous.
In stepped true freshman Jacory Harris at the controls and the rest was, as they say, history. Jacory would finish the game 18-28 for 185 yards but the true testament of his performance was not in the numbers or the stats but in the leadership he demonstrated.
Jacory, who looked as cool as could be in spite of throwing an early INT, and would go on to lead the Canes offense and the team to a much needed victory against a confident and fiesty Duke team.
Harris threw 4 TDs on the day one each to Aldarius Johnson, Travis Benjamin, Laron Byrd and Chris Zellner. AJ was the star of the day leading the team with 8 catches for 84 yards, several key first downs and a TD. I told U so!
The bottom line is this: The Canes won BIG to move their season record to 4-3 and keep their season and their ACC hopes alive. Randy Shannon avoided the ultimate embarrassment and now looks to build confidence behind Harris as the starting QB. All we can say as Canes fans and Canespacers is thank U very much and let's go Canes!!!

Be nice to Marve. come on
Posted by: JC | October 18, 2008 at 08:05 PM
The most important thing is, let's hope nix learned something 2 nite. His offense was based upon the talent he's use to playing with(sec) or calling plays for(g-tech), now maybe he'll open his eyes and realize we got different type players at UM, you don't davon johnson was saying he needs to be used on deep passes more at the park for no reason.
shot-gun 3 wide receivers is not nix's offense, but from here on out it should be and notice how all of a sudden the offense moves the ball gives the defense rest and than all of a sudden we getting a lot of 3 and outs!
Bottom line, that's how a coach puts his players in the best possible position to win, next game, let's not wait until desparation sets in to do it.

Boy, TypePad is weird tonight.
Slow going for the first 3 1/2 quarters, but finally got cookin' late.
Still not happy with Nix... doesn't know how to finish... very poor clock management.
Duke fans VANISHED the stadium with about 10 minutes still left to go... I felt bad for the kids on their team.
Cane players came over to the Cane section after the game and showed their fans some love. Tossed
Jacory stayed the longest, high fiving all along the wall of the stadium. He's the man!
Lots of Canes fans there tonight!

Rivals is already reporting Shannon said Marve is still the starter. I told you guys. Randy doesn't eat his words. His the stubborn type. I trust him but this may be a bad decision or it may be the spark to ignite Marve. We will see, but Jacory should play alot more than 2 series now. This may get ugly. We'll see.
Posted by: bg1906 | October 18, 2008 at 08:16 PM
Oops, should have been "tossed gloves and chinstraps to the crowd."
Posted by: roachcane77 | October 18, 2008 at 08:16 PM
I'm happy for Jacory he is all class all the time.
Shannon will Start Marve because Shannon subconsciously needs to prove to himself he is always right.
Marve plays well, great.
Marve stumbles Jacory will come in early and stay late.
No problems.

Solar.
I knew this would happen. He's said it all year no matter what Jacory did, Marve would start. But I agree, Marve's leash is much shorter. Could really work out for Marve and get him to a higher level. But there will be grumbling in the 305 because you'd think after that performance, Jacory needs to play.
Posted by: bg1906 | October 18, 2008 at 08:18 PM
Marve tries to hard to be the quarterback that the fans expect him to be. I would say that 70% of his picks this year have been boneheaded, trying to force the ball and make a play passes. Jacory is much more cerebral and has a great flow and rhythm when he is in the game.
Marve getting benched for a piss poor throw and Harris thriving in his absence is what canes football is all about. Marve will know better than to force a bad pass again because he knows that will mean he will watch the rest of the game from the bench.
Today's game is great for the future of both of these quarterbacks.

Man this was a good win. The defense was a little shakey at first but once the offense started to click, I think the defense started to play better......Thoughts?

Soup... I'll send some pics later... ran into canegirlNC and her daughter... they had drivin over.
Posted by: roachcane77 | October 18, 2008 at 08:21 PM
Raize, you are partially right. Duke abandoned the run and dropped passes which did help.
Posted by: shwarma | October 18, 2008 at 08:22 PM
bg,
I think it's all good too.
Marve doesn't need to get that K Wright I'm out here no matter what attitude.
Jacory's stock shot straight up with his team mates.
I'm happy with everything I saw.
Bosher gets a 40 mile per hour breeze behind him he's an All American.
Spencer A played a hell of a game too
peace

"Any more complaints about RS giving his 2 QBS playing time?
You have to think about long term goals and be prepared. The days of making Kyle Wright comfortable with giving him the start and not feel threatened are over.. It is not to have Marve look over his shoulder. It is to tell the QB and upperclassmen, that you have to earn playing time and THE COACHES TELL YOU WHEN YOU WILL PLAY...
At the end the whole bench played, I could swear I saw the Sebastian the Ibis making a tackle. :-)

PTF,
Great comment.
So far, I don't hear anyone saying Marve is "sorry" (I think "Jasorry" was one of the words used in reference to Jacory) with his poor play in the last two games - humm. But when Jacory was getting only one or two series, after a win or a loss (esp. after a loss), many wanted to fire Randy because Jacory was getting a couple of series in the games. How things change. Come on, be fair, Marve needs to step-up also.
Jacory so far passed all test in adversity - and he passed it through patience, faith in his coaches, and humility.
Marve is a good QB, maybe a better one technically, but is he a better competitor?

Get on after the game and this is the first post I read other than those jockeying for first post of the night.
Didnt we just hang 50 on someone? Didnt we make the "halftime adjustments" everyone has been clamoring for? Didnt we get the ball to our playmakers? Didnt every true freshman out there look like things are starting to click for them?
Did anyone think Duke would score 31 and us win?
Jeez.

I hate to pic on particular players... but Glen Cook looked REAL slow, and often out of position... and Romeo Davis basically cost us two scores.
A block in the back on a Benjamin TD return, (which brought it back), and not stopping their QB when he was RIGHT THERE to hit and tackle him, for a QB keeper for a score at the end of the game.
Posted by: roachcane77 | October 18, 2008 at 08:25 PM
It was VERY exciting for those 25 minutes or so of the second half PB... definitely happy, but I see no "disloyalty" in analyzing and breaking down what happened... even in a nice victory.

In fairness to him, TB doesn't score a TD to get calledback if there's no block in the back.... Though as a 70th year senior, he should know better than that

Just wait until the rest arrives next year
The OL needs them:
Ben Jones
Brandon Washington
How about WR play:
Tommy Streeter
Kendall Thompkins
Including The 09 Studs.
Boy, Oh boy. I feel good tonight.

p.s. IMO the whole Marve starting is just another way Shannon has injected an uncomortable itch up everyone's behind.
IMO opinion Marve comes out sharp as a freaking tack next Saturday. He is a driven kid and this kind of performance by Jacory raised the bar...just like Shannon said he would from day one. I bet he cant wait to see how Marve reacts after this.
Creating competition elevates everyone's play.
So for this week Shannon can take off the dunce cap everyone has been putting on him and don the Albert Einstein hair and mustache outfit...
Posted by: pb(CSHOF09) | October 18, 2008 at 08:31 PM
roach you forgot to kick dirt on Brandon Harris he got his usual PI penalty and played out of position a few times
If your gonna be pissed off after a win at least point out every player that "nearly" cost us a touchdown
Just kidding about
B Harris, he tries so hard he gets caught once in awhile, I'll take any kid thats playing his heart out every play

Roach we scored 42 points over the last 32 minutes of the game.
Do we need to score 60 for it to be considered a strong finish?

Agreed.
I heard Byrd being interviewed after the game and he said by the 3rd PLAY of the UF game he was exhuasted and still feels like he's only working at 30% capacity.
What these kids lack in experience they make up for in sac size.
By the time they get 15-20 games under their belts it's going to be really sweet.

Where are the usual suspects now?
Posted by: MidWestCane | October 18, 2008 at 08:48 PM
I heard that Joe and Bailey told a story about Nix (I believe that Joe forgot he was on radio).....
Joe stated that the coaches had a meeting and they told NIX that he had to take chances in his playcalling and that YES mistakes would happen, but this way they would learn..
Joe then added that NIX saw it the way he sees his 1 yr old baby and how learning to walk and being "scared" for the baby to fall, but he had to let the baby learn (and fall) but the baby would eventually learn and walk..
Joe then said that this was an interesting conversation he had with NIX.. Joe then (I believe) realized he probably said something that was off the record) and shut up..
Then they continued to talk about how the playcalling seemed different and that we (UM) were calling for more passes over the middle.. etc....
I just wanted to inform what I heard on the radio.. Made sense to me..
Posted by: PLAYTHEFRESHMEN | October 18, 2008 at 08:49 PM
Do anyone have stats - infor on WakeForest?
Posted by: MidWestCane | October 18, 2008 at 08:50 PM
Oh yeah... they even FREED Arthur Brown at the end!
He got through and smacked the QB, (almost a little late mind you...) but it was nice to see #11 on the field for something besides special teams.
