wth when did rutgers start putting up big points on teams

what day is when we find out about early signees

darCANEgel

This year it starts 12/17 and ends sometime mid January...

Canes, baaby

raizecane

I am in favor of any change that will improve our team but I can't see us going to a spread offense. If you want to produce NFL players, you need to run a pro style offense like were known for. With that being said...line up 5WR's and let them roam.

bg1906

I don't believe the Gus Malzahn stuff. But on another note, Truth mentioned Andre Debose yesterday. Not as if we didn't already know, but here is a highlight film. Like Truth said....WOW!

http://www.varsitygridiron.com/index.php/Football-News/Central-Florida/gallon-debose-have-been-putting-on-magic-acts-all-season.html

I hope we land all 3 from Seminole (Sanford).

LatinCane

I was listening to Gino Toretta this morning on 790 the Ticket w/ Sid, and they were discussing UM's two quaterback system and how it needs to be settled before next year. Gino made the comment, that he's been hearing some rumblings in Jacksonville (?) that Marve has discussed the possibility of transferring. He didn't elaborate. I certainly hope that it's not true. Although I'm in the Jacory Harris needs to start camp, Marve is too valueable to lose.

TonyCane

It could be a false story just put out there to put doubt in the minds of and drive away some of the U's offensive recruits.

Remember the impact that Coker's firing of his OC had? We lost our QB recruit that season. Simply putting out the rumor that Nix is out could open some doors with the current Miami recruits with schools like...ahem...FSU.

canesteeler

We lost all of our QB recruits under Coker because the dumb azz would recruit only one QB per year!

Canez1

Vince great point! That is a big reason why we are where we are. So everyone needs to fall back on RS for playing both of these QB's in every game. If he didn't one of them would have never played any meaningful snaps this year. It would've been very rare a backup QB would be able to get in games this year. Needed to be done.

Total F up in all phases!

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Canez1

Word is Jmac is as out next year.

One RB will also not be back. Not sure which one out of Mcneal or Chambers.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

On the sidelines vs. GT azzwhoopin.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

TLuv

I don't buy the whole Marve transferring thing. Why would he transfer when he has an amazing opportunity to be the starter next fall? Yes, Jacory was awesome but Marve showed spots of brilliance as well. The competition for the starting spot will be fierce and I've always looked at Marve as a guy who wants competition. If he transfers he'll have to sit out a year and then try to start somewhere else. Why not compete and win the job here? Makes no sense imo...

Canez1

Looks like Tommy Moffit and Art Kehoe are going to be joining Kiffen at Tennessee.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Canez1

T think the whole transfer BS is nonsense. Y would a guy run away from comp after his freshman year?? When the comp is this close.

Doesnt make sense.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

TLuv

Canez 1,

Your thoughts on the Gus Malzahn rumors flying around?

Ronny

Great job 86...!!!

AJ is still one of my all-time favorites.

I love how you asked him about our young receivers.

Canez1

I don't know T. My gut says that Nix stays for another year with all these young guys.

It is hard tho to dismiss the thought. Gus has done a great job but you just never know what another situation will bring. Yes a thousand yards a game is nice but at what price?? The U fanbase is a tough crowd and very sentimental to the past. Do we sell out to be a spread O and drop all the NFL ties and past history? Cause everyone knows spread O's don't make NFL players ex. Turds.

Don't know what to think. IMHO I think Gus has bigger fish to fry than being an OC at Miami. He is going to be on everyones list at the end of the year.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

jimmy

The "rumors" I have heard are that the players are speaking up to back Harris. Maybe Marve feels like that he will lose the job and wants to explore another option. I can somewhat understand because him and harris are in the same class. The biggest problem is that because he redshirted last year if he transfers to D-1 than he will only have 2 years of elgibility left. He could try to get a 6th year but those are far and few between.

jimmy

And I do not agree with the fact that because one transfers that they are scared of competition. Tell joe Flacco he was to scared. If you thought that over the next 3 years that you would not play, not because you arent good, but because there is someone else. what do you DO? I know he could transfer and get beat out but at that point you got beat by 2 guys. Maybe you just arent good enough. Nothing wrong with trying.

Canez1

Y would Marve not play because there is someone else??

Plus where is he going to transfer?? If he cannot beat out a fellow freshman what is he going to do at a program stocked with QB's??

Miami is the best place for him to see the field because of depth issues we have.

Just not buying it. He knew the deal when he signed.

If there is a stud junior ahead of you then that might be a different situation. He is competing with a kid a year behind him.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

LatinCane

I just listened to the Gino Toretta interview again online 790 the ticket and he said it was some of his "sources" that told him about Marve thinking about possibly leaving. Yo 86. Get an interview with Gino and get to the bottom of this. Haha.

Cat5 Cane

Maybe it's better not to be said but you opened the door..

TLuv... The hard truth

On Marve's rumor... First I like Marve and everything he brings to the U and don't want him to transfer. That said,...

If , I said if the rumor were true, it would be because he doesn't want to split time with Jacory, per Randy's plan and doesn't want to be compared as to who's better after every game...

Additionally, if winning the Heisman were his aspirations, then splitting time will never do it... If you were the father, what advise would you give to your son, if you were an x-football pro and know the game better then most.

Canez1

Gino T needs to STFU!

Even if he did hear "something" Y the fukkk would he say it on national radio?? This does nothing good for this program and only creates problems for these kids.

I never did like that Dooooouchebag anyway.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

A chat with Randy Shannon

By Jorge Milian | Friday, December 5, 2008, 10:05 AM

CORAL GABLES - With UM still waiting to hear who it will face in the postseason, I sat down with coach Randy Shannon to discuss the Hurricanes.

Here are a few things you might be interested in:

……Freshman quarterback Jacory Harris sustained a shoulder sprain in the regular-season finale against North Carolina State, but is back lifting weights and should be ready to play in the bowl game.

……Shannon said he might move away from a quarterback platoon next season if either Robert Marve or Harris proves he “truly is better than the other guy. Next year will be different. They’ll be held to a higher level of expectation.”

……Regarding offensive coordinator Patrick Nix, who has become the favored whipping boy for disgruntled fans: “There’s always going to be criticism of the coordinator. My years here with Butch [Davis], everyone used to get on [offensive coordinator Larry] Coker. They wanted to hang coach Coker. Then they wanted to hang Chud [Rob Chudzinski]. Then Dan [Werner]. Then Rich {Olson]. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Right now, everybody is on coach Nix about what he’s done and that he’s not doing this and he’s not doing that.” Asked if he expected Nix to return next season, Shannon said, “Yeah,” then pointed out that the entire coaching staff will be “evaluated” in January.

……Defensive end Courtney Harris, a Jupiter High product, may not be able to resume his football career next season because of a lingering shoulder injury. Harris missed the 2008 season after sustaining an Achilles’ heel tear, but Shannon said it’s a bum shoulder that might keep the 6-foot-3, 255-pound junior on the sidelines. “His shoulder isn’t firing back up,” Shannon said.

……Shannon said defensive end Eric Moncur and safety Randy Phillips, both seniors, will apply for an extra year of eligibility. “I’m hopeful they can come back,” Shannon said.

……Shannon said he would like 8 or 9 recruits to enter school in January. Out of that group, several will be offensive linemen, which is the area of greatest concern for the ’09 recruiting class, Shannon said. “When these [seniors on the offensive line including Reggie Youngblood, Xavier Shannon, Chris Rutledge) go, we’re going to be down to about nine [offensive linemen] in the spring,” Shannon said. “That’s why January is so big.”

……UM doesn’t plan on signing any quarterbacks in this recruiting class aside from A.J. Highsmith, the son of former UM great Alonzo Highsmith. A.J. is projected as an defensive back, but could spend his freshman season as the emergency No. 4 quarterback for the Hurricanes.

……Shannon doesn’t expect any UM player to leave early for the NFL Draft, but said he will encourage tailback Graig Cooper to petition the NFL Draft advisory committee to determine his status. “I’ll give him the paperwork after the bowl and I’ll tell him, ‘Let’s send it in and see where you’re at,’” Shannon said. “Another year for him [in college] would be what he needs. He’s not where he needs to be in terms of body structure.” The 6-foot, 200-pound Cooper is a sophomore, but he’s been out of high school for three years so is eligible to enter the NFL Draft. Cooper leads UM in rushing and ranks eighth in the ACC with an average of 64.8 yards per game.

……Shannon, who has two years left on his original four-year contract, said there will be no discussions regarding an extension until January at the earliest. “It’s not an issue with me,” Shannon said. “One thing I like about [UM athletic director] Kirby [Hocutt] is that he doesn’t get involved in those things during the season. When the season is over with…..I think that will happen when January is here. We’ll talk about things like that.”

……Speaking of recruiting, Shannon said most of the negative recruiting aimed at UM comes from one unnamed institution. “It’s always the same school who says bad things about us,” Shannon said. “It’s always the same thing, ‘Coach won’t be there next year,’ or ‘Why would you want to go there?’ You don’t lose anyone from stuff like that. Parents get turned off by it. It helps us out more than anything.” Despite prodding, Shannon wouldn’t say who the school is, but we’ll take a wild guess - the Florida Gators.

Yo Canez1 LMAO

Andre is a class act... Thank the heavens that hell be here in the offseason to help these young receivers improve.

ON ANOTHER NOTE...

I know Ken Dorsey is getting a start this week for Cleveland, but when will his week arm retire and become the U's QB coach, and eventual OC...

Canez1

LC the dude stole the heisman. Shyte the bed in the NFl and is now looking to stand out by blasting off on shyte he shouldn't.

He is starting to get on my nerves lol

GT go away my man! You have not been relevant in over a decade and for good reason. Either support this U or step away from it and fall back.

JMO of course ;)

start scouting Cal

If we go to the Emerald Bowl we will play Cal for certain, they have been invited and are 99% sure they will accept.
It is projected Cal will bring 33-35,000 fans to the bowl game.

The Emerald Bowl wants Miami first, Wake second as their opponent.

peace

Canez1

HM I totally agree with you about KD. Time to hang em up my man.

Hard to pass up all that money tho. I would be a career backup any day! Best position on the field!lol

His day back at the U will come soon enough.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

solarcane

We go to the Emerald Bowl we get a chance to show how eell we tackle really good running backs

Despite missing one game and parts of three others, Cal tailback Jahvid Best has a chance to win the Pac-10 rushing title.

Best enters Saturday's game 170 yards behind Oregon State's Jacquizz Rodgers. He has 1,083 rushing yards on the season, giving the Bears a 1,000-yard rusher in each of Tedford's seven years at Cal.

CANZ1- CAREER BACK UP OR LONG SNAPPER, TWO BEST JOBS IN FOOTBALL

solarcane

canez1,
Dorsey racks up his pension money
I think he may come back and coach somewhere.

I've said this before in other debates, most of Dorsey's life long friends are in California. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back there to do some kind of business after pro football.

peace

Canez1

HM, word my man! Word!

Solar that is true. I guess we will see where his heart is.

IMO tho I think KD is very overrated and it showed in the NFL.

I don't want him back here.

He was surrounded by a pro team in college with unprecedented talent. Bottomline.

JMO

GO CANEZ!!!!!

bg1906

Awesome interview with Coach Randy Shannon.

pb(CSROH09)

Marve, over the long term, can be the better player.

He can make all the throws Jacory can and many Jacory cant, but IMO he just needs a little more time to develop. The big difference between the two this year was the poise Jacory had, but that can be learned with time.

IIIFFFF the light bulb turns on for him this off season, he has the potential to be really special.

Either way we are in a great position with the two of them going forward.

LatinCane

Does anybody know whether Dorsey works out here during the summer? I think he'd be a great mentor for Jacory.

Esteban

I hope Dorsey stays in the NFL til he's 40 if he's able. Let the man live out his dream. Still a young guy.

And Gino does need to choose wisely with what he says on radio shows. He knows as well as anyone that doesn't help the program out. Everyone and their mother is hearing rumors at this time in the year.

and Canez1, i don't sweat the JMAC pic wth him laughing. He wasn't the only guy standing next to the heater (that wasn't on) that was smiling or laughing. Could see that from the game telecast. I don't expect him back, but still don't hold the smiling against him.

Esteban

LatinCane, usually Dorsey works out at the team's headquarters (whichever team he's with). The guys with job security come back, the ones without it work out at the team facility.
