The University of Miami men’s basketball team, winners of seven of their last eight games, returns to the hardwood at home on Sunday versus ACC rival Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m. The Hurricanes are fresh off Wednesday’s 75-69 home win over Florida State, while the Hokies return to the court following their upset of top-ranked Wake Forest on the same evening
Miami enters the game with a 14-4 record (3-2 in ACC) while VT comes into town sporting a 15-3 record (3-1 in ACC). The Hurricanes lead the all-time series versus the Hokies, 8-6, but dropped their last meeting, 63-49, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. on March 14, 2008.
Miami defeated Virginia Tech in their last regular-season meeting, beating the Hokies 74-71 in Blacksburg on Feb. 9, 2008. That road victory kick started a crucial four-game win streak, including the win over then-No. 4/5 Duke, that helped propel the Hurricanes towards a 20-win season and an NCAA Tournament berth.
For the Canes Jack "McCutch" McClinton is averaging 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists over his last two appearances, shooting .438 from long range and .833 from the line. Over the last five games, he has contributed 19.8 points, 4.0 boards and 2.6 assists per game, while scoring 20-plus points three times in that span.
Miami will be playing back-to-back opponents whose head coaches used to work for the Hurricanes. Florida State's Leonard Hamilton coached at UM while the Canes were stil in the Big East, ending a 10-year run with the Hurricanes with a 144-147 record. Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg served as an assistant coach under Bill Foster at Miami from 1984-87, bringing the Hurricanes basketball program back to fruition for the 1985-86 season after a 14-year hiatus. Playing at the BankUnited Center has been berry, berry good to the Hurricanes. Miami has gone 9-2 this season and 53-21 at home under fifth year coach Frank Haith. Over the last two games, Dwayne Collins is averaging 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Hurricanes, while Adrian Thomas (seen here) is contributing 9.8 points (.556 FG%, .474 3FG%), 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game over the last four outings.
No news just sucks!
I guess a watched pot never boils....

Speculation offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg won't be back for a seventh season with the Eagles was dismissed Saturday by a club spokesman.
Eagles football media relations director Derek Boyko double-checked the status of Mornhinweg with his boss, Andy Reid. Boyko said the head coach denied the reports, the rumors and the speculation.
Boyko also suspects reporters confused Mornhinweg with Mark Whipple, the Eagles' offensive assistant who sources say has sold his house and will leave the nest. Whipple likely will be named offensive coordinator of the University of Miami.
Eagles quarterbacks coach Pat Shurmur was allowed to take the offensive coordinator job of the St. Louis Rams, where he teams with head coach Steve Spagnuolo, a former Eagles assistant.
Mornhinweg, 46, has been assistant head coach/offensive coordinator the past three years with the Eagles.
The Eagles ranked ninth in total offense, including sixth in passing and ranked sixth in the league in points scored.

Ferman is just flat out wrong and was wrong throughout this whole OC process. It will be fun to watch him eat crow when the announcement comes today or tomorrow regarding Whipple. I wonder how he is going to spin this. I wonder how he feels knowing that Canespace was the first source to break the news.
Saddam Ferman!! That shack along the Tigris River is still available to go hide in!

solar, u mentioned this year with more legitimate players that dont wear down....
I'm concerned about our schedule as it stands our bye wee is after the FSU game. This is a concern because the players will have a long stretch of games with no more rest for the rest of the season and remember we play oklahoma like the 3 or 4tth game i hope we dont have any major injuries this is where depth is going to have to be significant for us to make strides going forward in the program.
I remember Randy mentioning last season that the bye week falling late helped the team to heal and was much needed.

We are going to ROCK this YEAR!!!!!! take note....

Jason Geathers
Posted by: The Truth | January 25, 2009 at 11:35 AM
^^^^^^^^^^^
He was the ultimate team player in my opinion. Made some nice plays as a WR, filled in for McGahee from time to time. He played a big part in the FSU comeback win in '02.

Whenever my girlfriend wears her #3 Canes jersey, I always make sure she knows to say it's "#3 Jason Geathers, not Kyle Wright", if anyone asks.

In the words of the infamous DarCanegel:
BUY TICKETS, GO TO THE GAME!
UM VS VT AT 5:30 PM AT THE BUC.
KEOKI, AQUA, RICKY AND THE GANG WILL BE AT THE TITANIC FOR THE USUAL PRE-GAME PARTY AND AT THE GAME.

Calvin - are you talking about when Antrel was talking about the Cane attitude and mindset? About how opposing players used to shake and wonder what the hell they got themselves into .. but now, they have no fear?

Not new, but just to review:
The University of Miami will now play three of its four 2009 nonconference football games in the month of October.
The Hurricanes will host defending Big 12 champion and Bowl Championship Series Title game participant Oklahoma on Oct. 3 at Dolphin Stadium. It will be the first time since 1986 that Miami has hosted the Sooners. Oklahoma and Miami last met during the 2007 season in Norman, Okla. The two teams met in the 1988 Orange Bowl in Miami, which resulted in a 20-14 UM win for the program's second national title. The Sooners lead the all-time series, 4-3.
Miami will host Florida A&M on Oct. 10. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series, 6-1. UM won the last meeting between the teams in 2006, 51-10.
Miami will travel to UCF on Oct. 17 to face the Knights. The Hurricanes won the first ever meeting between the two schools last season, 20-14, at Dolphin Stadium.

86 - You better drive over here and give Clinton Portis a Canespace shirt
Posted by: Six | January 25, 2009 at 12:35 PM
That's the one I was thinking of with Geathers. Thought it was over 200 though...
Posted by: The Truth | January 25, 2009 at 12:41 PM
How about Kevin Beard. I used to love me some Kevin Beard. Is he still in NFLU
Posted by: moneycane | January 25, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Everytime I think about Geathers and Beard it makes me want to puke thinking about how we got robbed in '02 by the Suckeyes.
Posted by: moneycane | January 25, 2009 at 12:46 PM
exactly six, that's the only reason to listen to it.

Anton - LOL I almost bought a #3 jersey but too many ill memories of KW to do it!
Posted by: CanesgirlNC | January 25, 2009 at 12:48 PM
86 - I redid the article and sent it today - get rid of the first one. Thanks
Posted by: CanesgirlNC | January 25, 2009 at 12:49 PM
Truth - you and J got this thing on lockdown? ;-D
Posted by: CanesgirlNC | January 25, 2009 at 12:49 PM
CanesgirlNC- Yeah Miami needs a new #3 to be a total stud so everyone can wear their old jerseys again. He doesn't have to be All-American or anything, just not embarrassing to wear. Cooper is more than serviceable to be wearing the #2 if you bought it back for Willis, etc.
Posted by: Anton | January 25, 2009 at 12:52 PM
Time to move on to rampant DC speculation.
I thought James Jackson over 200 once

Frank Gore had 201 against Virginia in 2004.
Posted by: Anton | January 25, 2009 at 12:57 PM
Anton I agree - #3 and #7 as well
BTW - I think the Canes beat VT today
Posted by: CanesgirlNC | January 25, 2009 at 12:58 PM
I think Travis Benjamin is changing his number to 3 and Vaughn Telemaque is #7
Posted by: moneycane | January 25, 2009 at 01:00 PM
Didn't Tyrone Moss put up 195 on UNC and then get hurt, or was that against another team.
Posted by: moneycane | January 25, 2009 at 01:02 PM
money - it will take a few seasons for me to like the numbers 3 and 7 again :-)
Posted by: CanesgirlNC | January 25, 2009 at 01:05 PM
He got hurt against VTech. I think he scored like 9 touchdowns against UNC.
Posted by: DZ8 | January 25, 2009 at 01:06 PM
I don't care if bryce brown is playing the recruiting game, he's smart enough to know that if he's definitely coming to Miami, he's not waiting to see where other lineman are committing, he's out their trying to recruit them.
Also, what bryce has to realize is this, you got guys here right now who can pave the way.
fox, an in shape franklin, figs, barney, b.washington and harland gunn. It's now time to see what tyler horn's progression is looking like as well.
Posted by: Calvin | January 25, 2009 at 01:06 PM
Any news on new commits? Bunche would be great. Hall would be icing on the cake. Also want Barrington.
Posted by: DFDubCane | January 25, 2009 at 01:06 PM
There will only be one person when I think of when I wear my #11 jersey...
I will always say Kenny should have won the heisman his senior year. The guy was robbed!!

J - Who are your first choices? As Truth said (I think it was Truth who said this) since Tubbs is helping with the DC search I am going to count him out (though the longer this goes the longer maybe he does creep into the picture).
I think my preference is this:
1)Martinez (Miami guy and great with secondary)
2)Tenuta (looking back he seems like a bit of a merc prior to GT and I would like someone with a little more loyalty)
3)Nix (I think he won't leave Ole Miss since he just got there and is from Mississippi, but this guy is a real up and comer)
Posted by: shwarma | January 25, 2009 at 01:09 PM
86 - I'll be stuck up at the tv station on Saturday, during the time Portis is there .. if he was there an hour later, then I would be able to make it during my lunch break.
About what time and where will you and Ocala be on the 28th?
Posted by: Six | January 25, 2009 at 01:10 PM
When I think of 7,I think of Al Blades r.i.p
