2008 was so overrated. It is time to move on. Bring on 2009 and don't look back.
Hey, is that Patrick Nix in your rear view mirror? Please, don't look back.
The Canes disappointing 2008 football season is long gone. A better 2009 season is just a few months away. Don't look back.
The Orange Bowl was torn down and became a pile of rubble. Now that the Canes are in a newer, better, state of the art facility, there is no need to look back.
Robert Marve is gone; to where we can't be sure, but gone is he. Don't get caught looking back.
The Canes elimination at the College World Series ended a stellar season. Keep your head up the 2009 season is around the corner. There is no need to look back.
Eddie Rios just got suspended again and looks like he may be done at UM. Try not to look back.
Larry Coker's last recruits are working their way out of the program. Don't let the door hit you as you try to sneak a peak and look back.
The end to the 2009 recruiting season and National Signing Day is just around the corner. The Canes recruiting class is once again looking solid, proving that there is absolutely no need to look back.
It is time to move forward. And please, whatever you do, don't look back...
It's early

-- "And then, in an even stranger story, former Alabama coach Mike Shula actually turned down a job as offensive coordinator of the Miami Hurricanes to remain as the QB coach for the Jaguars. Go figure. Too bad for Alabama. I wonder if UA could've cut the amount it is paying Shula."

On my way, back to work. I, too, get a little nostalgic looking at the OB pictures. Some of my best times, in the olden days!. But, looking forward we must and not never look back. Can't wait to watch Cardinals and Ravens this weekend.

we do NOT want Rip Scherer...he was the WORST coach ever at Memphis, and trust me, being from Memphis, that says alot, cause they have had some bad ones.
Calvin, Pittsburgh is totally different from Philly.....gotta love the Eagles, when the Governor of PA is on the Comcast postgame show as an analyst.....Rendell knows his stuff too....
The whole way McNabb has been treated here from the start, when the fans booed him at the draft (they wanted Ricky Williams) to now, I dont know why he would want to stay. He is roasted daily on radio, no matter what he does (until now, when they see we are one win away against the Cardinals from being in the Bowl). Now he has been sainted...I thought is was funny as hell when he did the phone thing sunday
I was thinking though, we all want talent on our team. Well, talent and no TEAM gets you squat. On paper, the cowboys should be in the bowl, and they arent even in playoffs...why? no TEAM, and me first attitude (and a crappy coach).....
Im definitely pulling for Pittsburgh, hard to do because I love Reed, Willis and Lewis, but I know Eagles have no shot against them. And another parade in Philly would put another boatload of cash in my wallet!

I also found it kind of funny after all this BS from the Marve's about being close to home, he is now looking at Ok State and Purdue? Lotta balls that crew has

Anyway, no. 1 has turned it down and is staying put, so far, with his current employer.
Really no.1 was it...there were high hopes that the $$ offered was going to
be enough, but that's obviously not the case. So, we wait...
And yeah, the money was substantial. Good enough to lure an NFL guy if he wanted to come. But some guys don't want to leave the show.

From Rivals:
Shannon wants an OC
Word is that Miami coach Randy Shannon would like a veteran assistant with NFL experience to be his new offensive coordinator. The most viable candidate to fit that mold is former Cleveland Browns quarterback coach Rip Scherer. Former San Diego State coach Chuck Long also is thought to be involved. And keep an eye on Philadelphia Eagles offensive assistant Mark Whipple, a former head coach at Massachusetts - a Football Championship Subdivision (i.e., Division I-AA) school.
Different article (about BC search)
It is tough to predict DeFilippo’s moves, however. When Tom O’Brien left for North Carolina State two years ago, the favorite throughout much of the process was then-Steelers quarterbacks coach and former UMass coach Mark Whipple.

Posted by: Loco | January 13, 2009 at 10:49 AM
No bg...he was an NFL guy. Not chud. And appearantly I'm not exactly up to date with info either. Shannon isn't the only guy working on this and he and everyone else involved are doing a great job of putting just enough out to quell the questioning and switching it up enough to not interfere with the search itself.
I still say it'll be Long but that's just my opinion. And if whipple is really in the mix that would a be a great choice as well.

I think it was M Shula who turned us down.
Posted by: jimmy | January 13, 2009 at 11:08 AM

Truth:
I dont' remember ever seeing a Tulane game with Scelfo was the coach. Just want your opinion on the offense he runs.
Posted by: J | January 13, 2009 at 11:13 AM
and I will say I would not be surprised if Chud did come if he doesn't get the 49ers gig. Again, that's my opinion but there has got to be a better reason for the approach taken. There is plenty of money and lots of ggood guys interested. So this wait has to be on something more. I could be wrong but it seems to me Shannon either wants his good friend or Chud. If they don't take it then he's got a pool to choose from now. There's IS enough info about all of them and some have flat out been told Miami wasn't interested in them so it makes sense that this "delay" of sorts has more to do with waiting on more than just NFL guy...
And since no one has been named as OC for the niners my gut tells me Shannon has hopes chud could take it if he doesn't move out west.
That's my opinion and take on this so far.
Don't fool yourself, none of the guys interested are going to put of out there in the media "oh yeah, I wanted the job at Miami but my system didn't jive with the HC so they told me no" there's no need for all that business to be put out there.
Other names like Scherer I am sure are more of a recomendational (is that a word?) thing and a courtesy interview than any serious consideration. Shannon knows what he wants in a OC so it's a matter of finding the guy that can produce it. I doubt he's going to pick a guy that hasn't produced at the college level.

Wow J I really don't remember what it looked like formations wise and such. I do know his offense strssed balance between running and passing and that's probably why he's getting a look, if he is.
Other that I can't really make a comment on him because I just don't know all that much about him.

As the coaching Carousel turns...
January 13, 2009
Tom Dienhart
Rivals.com College Football Senior Writer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Rumblings from the American Football Coaches Association convention this week:
Ron Zook may add Larry Johnson of Penn State to his staff at Illinois.
Zook at work
Ron Zook continues to try to revamp his Illinois staff. He reportedly has offered the defensive coordinator job to Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson, who is known as a good recruiter. There also are rumblings that Zook is targeting Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett for the same post. It would be a huge coup if Zook landed Trickett.
Changes at Oregon
The Oregon staff is undergoing change with offensive line coach Steve Greatwood leaving; Greatwood will be honored as the national offensive line coach of the season at the convention. Is his departure a sign that offensive coordinator/head-coach-in-waiting Chip Kelly will assume command sooner rather than later for Mike Bellotti? Don't be surprised if Kelly is the Ducks' coach this fall, with Bellotti becoming full-time athletic director.
What's next at BC?
With Jeff Jagodzinski out at Boston College in one of the most bizarre firings in history, the Eagles' coaching search has begun with three internal candidates: defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani, offensive coordinator Steve Logan and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell.
Steve Addazio, who recently was promoted from offensive line coach to offensive coordinator at Florida, looks like a contender. Addazio also was on the radar of Syracuse during its recent search for a replacement for Greg Robinson. Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell also is on the radar. Norvell was interviewed the last time this job opened. Another possibility is East Carolina coach Skip Holtz.
In the end, expect BC to tab someone already on the staff in hopes of maintaining some semblance of stability.
Ferentz to the NFL?
Some still wonder if Kirk Ferentz will remain coach at Iowa. One scenario that could unfold is that Ferentz would become coach of the Kansas City Chiefs if Scott Pioli becomes the Chiefs' general manager.
Tracy Rocker is headed back to Auburn, this time as defensive line coach.
Ole Miss assistant leaves for Auburn
Gene Chizik has hired Ole Miss defensive line coach Tracy Rocker to fill the same post at Auburn; Rocker is an Auburn alum, and his hiring means Chizik has filled six of nine assistant's jobs. The only slots remaining are for an offensive line coach and two defensive assistants.
Louisville looking for a DC – again
Newly promoted Louisville defensive coordinator Bill Miller has left to become co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Kansas, which will allow him to be closer to family. Clint Bowen will continue as the Jayhawks' defensive coordinator. Miller was promoted from linebackers coach to coordinator at Louisville last month after Ron English left to take the head-coaching job at Eastern Michigan. To replace Miller, Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe is expected to promote from within. The likely candidate is defensive line coach Ken Delgado, who just finished his first season at the school. Kragthorpe also may offer Middle Tennessee cornerbacks coach Antonio Goss a position.
NFL assistant to Oklahoma State?
It looks as if Oklahoma State may hire Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring as defensive coordinator. Herring is a longtime coordinator in the college ranks. Cowboys coach Mike Gundy has other holes to fill on his staff with the departures of Curtis Luper and Trooper Taylor. South Carolina running backs coach Robert Gillespie and Middle Tennessee running backs coach Willie Simmons could be targets.
Michigan hunting for an assistant
Michigan's search for a defensive coordinator continues. Two names making the rounds: former Michigan defensive coordinator Jim Herrmann, who coached linebackers for the New York Jets this season, and Florida safeties coach Chuck Heater.
What will Edsall do?
Connecticut coach Randy Edsall continues to search for an offensive coordinator after Rob Ambrose left to be coach at Towson, a FCS program. Word is that Edsall wants a coach with NFL experience who can oversee quarterbacks as well as recruit Ohio, Maryland and Virginia. One guy who may be on the radar – but doesn't meet all the requirements – is former Miami University coach Shane Montgomery.
More buzz
It looks as if Notre Dame offensive line coach John Latina has been fired. And word is the dirty deed was done by phone. … New Washington coach Steve Sarkisian has hired Purdue running backs coach Joel Thomas for the same post with the Huskies. … Former Clemson linebackers coach Ron West is a top contender to become the coach of Presbyterian College, a FCS program in Clinton, S.C. … Oklahoma quarterback coach Josh Heupel may be the guy for Minnesota's offensive coordinator job. … Maryland recently named Massachusetts coach Don Brown to be defensive coordinator after Chris Cosh left for the same post at Kansas State. Terps coach Ralph Friedgen also considered Maryland linebackers coach Al Seamonson and former Wyoming defensive coordinator Mike Breske. … Word is Northwestern offensive line coach Bret Ingalls may be leaving the Wildcats' staff. … Look for former Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom to return to the NFL. Croom is a former longtime NFL assistant.

NO WAY THIS CAN BE REAL BUT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN TALKING ABOUT OAKLAND'S AL DAVIS!!!
Al Davis Hires then Fires Former Boston College Coach Jeff Jagodzinski by The Sports Comedian (Scribe)
First it was the Browns firing of Coach Romeo Crennel, then Rod Marinelli and the Lions parted ways. Shortly thereafter both Eric Mangini and Mike Shanahan were shown the door by their respective teams. And just when you thought the NFL coaching carousel couldn’t spin any faster, along comes the Raiders and Al Davis to spice things up again.
Apparently feeling left out of the hiring and firing news of late, Davis knew he needed to act.
“I was concerned that the Raiders were starting to lose their status as the team most likely to fire a head coach,” said Davis, speaking at his weekly press conference through a self-made paper megaphone. “As President of the Raiders, I am charged with keeping our team at the top of the list of worst places for a head to coach to land, and I hadn’t made a move since I fired that smart-mouth little punk Wade Griffin back on September 30, 1998.”
(Here the press conference was briefly interrupted as Davis’ handlers rushed to the podium and reminded him that the smart-mouth little punk he fired was actually named Lane Kiffin and that the year was actually 2008.) ... After firing his handlers for correcting him in public, Davis resumed the press conference by stating that contrary to reports by that “professional liar, amateur rodeo clown and noted part-time male escort” Chris Mortensen, the Raiders were not leaning towards hiring current interim coach Tom Cable as a permanent solution to their coaching vacancy.
Further, Davis denied any interest in hiring New York Giants OC Kevin Gilbride because, according to Davis “he seemed like a guy who might do well enough to stay here for a while.”
Instead, Davis announced that just before the press conference, the Raiders had reached an agreement to hire former Boston College head coach “Jeb Jagorinski” as the next coach of the Silver and Black. “Jeb came highly recommended to me as someone who understands what its like to work for a boss who will fire you on a moments notice. As a young, smart, successful and ambitious coach, he is the perfect choice to be the next former head coach of the Raiders.
"I can tell you that I have already met with Coach Jargoreeski this morning in his office, and I didn’t like the way he carried himself. He acted like he owned the place and even had the audacity to put pictures of his own family in there.”
Following his statement, Davis introduced Coach Jagodzinski as the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders, and then proceeded to fire him “with cause” as he made his way to the podium. Showing signs of emotion, Jagodzinski noted that he was disappointed, but still appreciative of the opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL.
He noted his experiences of “the plane ride out to Oakland” and “bumping into Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell in the hallway” as memories he would take with him of his time with the team. As for the again vacant head coach position in Oakland, the search continues.
