When Canes fans are looking for a place to stay for football games this season they should look no further than the Hampton Inn in Plantation.
The Hampton Inn offers luxury accomodations, excellent customer service and a location that is unmatched in terms of proximity to popular restaraunts (too many to mention), upscale shopping (next to Broward Mall) and easy transportation to Dolphin Stadium via Florida's Turnpike (travel time is around 20 minutes).
The Hampton Inn Plantation also is a partner of ours and hosts our Canespace pre-game parties that actually start the night before game day. Several Canespacers have stayed at this hotel and met other Canes fans in the process. It is THE place to be if you wear the orange and green! I have stayed at this great location several times and I can tell you that this is the place to be for Canes fans.
For reservations, contact Susan Stern at the hotel directly and mention Canespace: 1-954-382-4500. Or click on the link in the top left corner of the blog or this link and enter "Canespace" under group rates:

Soup:
I appreciate that, Soup. If this were a discussion with my wife, "could be" would be replaced with "are." :)
If all goes well over the next few years, the biggest issue we should have here is guessing which players go higher in the first two rounds. Ray Ray could go higher than anyone already on the team this past season, but not sooner...

I will certainly do what I can to stay at the Hampton when I go down this year. And if I do, I hope to see more folks than what I see in the pics above. I want to see pics of that lobby so full of Cane fans that its "standing room" only... :-)

Just the fact that yall are betting who gets drafted higher in the 1st round, hell the 1st round period, makes my heart glad, and that right their should answer the shannon(at the helm)recruiting questions if they are still out their. When is the last time this argument could even attempt to be made.
Also, if epps doesn't get hurt, i had him getting in the 1st round as well, he has everything a tight-end needs to be one of the good to great ones. Here's hoping he has a full recovery. This offense would've been nasty had epps been 100%.

No. 2 Miami Hosts Ohio State, Travels to FAU This Week
Hurricanes now ranked in the Top 10 in every major national poll...
Yasmani Grandal has a team-high six homers this season...
March 24, 2009
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami baseball team, ranked second in the nation in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation poll released today, is set to host Ohio State on Tuesday before making the short trip north to play FAU in Boca Raton on Wednesday.
The Hurricanes (18-4, 7-2 ACC) are coming off their fifth-straight series win of the season and second over a Top 15 opponent on the road, taking two-of-three at No. 7 Virginia over the weekend. With the series win over UVa, the `Canes have now won 21 of their last 22 regular season series and 14 of their last 15 ACC series dating back to 2007.
Miami will play nine of its next 10 games at home, including Tuesday's 6 p.m. game against OSU and this upcoming weekend's three-game series against No. 3 Georgia Tech. The team's lone road game the next two weeks is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and pits a pair of teams that will face each other three times in a span of 21 days.
UM's bullpen continues to be the story through the first half of the season, as UM relievers have a combined 1.67 ERA (16 earned runs in 86 1/3 innings) through the first 22 games. All-American closer Kyle Bellamy and set-up man Taylor Wulf anchor the bullpen, with the pair combining to allow just two earned runs in 29 2/3 innings. Bellamy has proven to be one of the nation's top closers through the first month of the season, coming into the week with a perfect 3-0 record to go along with a league-high six saves. In 16 innings this season, the Davie, Fla. native has allowed just one run on 10 hits while striking out 25.
After hitting .250 in the month of February, Yasmani Grandal has turned it around in March, hitting a team-best .365 over the last 16 games. He has brought his season average up to .338 as a result, and after hitting two homers in Sunday's win over UVa, now leads the team in both home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.662).
Scott Lawson continues to lead the team in hitting, coming into the week at .360. Since head coach Jim Morris moved Lawson to the lead-off spot and Ryan Jackson into the No. 2 hole on March 17 against St. Thomas, both players have seen a jump in their offensive production. Lawson is 8-for-19 with two walks and a team-high six runs over the last five games in the lead-off spot, while Jackson hit his first three homers of the season and has a team-high 11 RBI since the move.
Starter David Gutierrez (2-1) has proven to be one of the league's top starters thus far, having yet to allow more than one earned run in any of his five starts this season. In 30 2/3 innings, Gutierrez has allowed just three earned runs while he is holding his opponents to just a .196 batting average against him.
OHIO STATE REPORT
The Buckeyes are 17-2 overall and ride a nine-game winning streak into their game Monday night against Rollins College in Orlando. Zach Hurley and Michael Arp both enter the week hitting over .400. Hurley leads the team in most offensive categories, including hits (35), average (.407), doubles (4), RBI (28), total bases (55) and on-base percentage (.443). Alex Wimmers (4-0, 1.85 ERA) is the team's ace, having struck out 47 in 34 innings of work to go along with the team's only two complete games. Jake Hale (0-0, 2.25 ERA) has four of the team's seven saves.
FAU REPORT
The Owls are 13-6 overall heading into their game Monday night against North Dakota State. Travis Ozga has been FAU's top hitter this season, hitting .391 with a homer, a team-high 20 RBI and 15 runs. Troy Bubley (.373), who leads the team with seven stolen bases, is one of three Owls along with Tom Hatcher and William Block with three homers. Barry Rooks (3-0, 3.03 ERA) and Chris Schmitt (3-0, 3.93 ERA) have been the team's top two starters while Alex Pepe (3.18, 10 appearances) is the top arm out of the bullpen.
MIAMI vs. OSU & FAU
Miami trails the all-time series with the Buckeyes, 12-14-1, but the Hurricanes have won five straight and eight of the last nine meetings dating back to 1971. The last time Miami met Ohio State on the diamond, the `Canes won 23-3 in Coral Gables on March 6, 1999.
The Hurricanes lead FAU, 41-8, in the series between the two South Florida programs. UM has won five of the last six meetings with the Owls, including two of three last season. The last time the two teams met, Miami came away with a 12-10 win on March 16, 2008 in Boca Raton.
AFTER FAU
The Hurricanes will return to Alex Rodriguez Park this weekend for its third ACC home series as No. 3 Georgia Tech visits Coral Gables, March 27-29. The three-game series opens Friday night at 7 p.m., with games two and three set for 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
`CANES IN TOP 5 IN THREE POLLS
After taking two-of-three at No. 7 Virginia over the weekend, the University of Miami baseball team is now ranked in the Top 5 in three of five major college baseball polls, including as high as No. 2 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association. The `Canes also moved up to from No. 7 to No. 4 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches poll and from No. 8 to No. 5 in the Rivals.com poll. UM also jumped from No. 9 to No. 6 in the Collegiate Baseball poll, while Baseball America moved the `Canes up from No. 11 to No. 7 this week.

Great pictures of the Hampton Inn. Had a fabulous time staying there last Nov., meeting all the Canespacers, hanging out with 86 and Mrs. 86 and Canechic. They treated me like family. Had the time of my life at the game. Hope to do it again sometime when finances are a little better. Everyone should stay at the Hampton Inn, tailgate, party and take in the whole Cane experience.
Off to work.

Also the negative recruiting is in full effect.
Louis Nix...
Nix has stated in the past that he was not one hundred percent committed to Miami, and he said that nothing has changed in that area. He talked about why he isn’t fully committed to Miami and why he is looking at some other schools.
“I’m looking at some other schools in case something changes between now and signing day,” Nix said. “People have talked to me about Randy Shannon leaving so I will just be keeping my eyes open about that.”
Nix talked about some of the other schools he is interested in, and it appears that Notre Dame could be the number two team behind the Canes.
Let me guess....Urban Meyer. I think that guys is TRASH. Also, I have a new favorite all-time Cane. JEROME BROWN. I love his antics in Cane Mutiny! He and Melvin Bratton are THE BEST!

Intangibles key in Miami's start to '09
March 24, 2009 11:00 AM
Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich
There is no questioning the talent on Miami's roster. It's the intangibles that not even the staff can predict. They've got a new offense, a new defense, a new quarterback, and they're all trying to find some chemistry and get the program back to where they want it to be. They have the talent to do it.
Here's the thing, though. Miami's schedule simply doesn't allow the Canes any margin for error. There are no William & Marys to work out the kinks. The Miami Hurricanes have to play their best football in September, or it's going to be a long season.
Gut feeling? There will be no in-between for this team. Miami will either start the season 4-0 or 0-4.
The good news is first-year offensive coordinator Mark Whipple's confidence oozes down to the players, and receivers coach Aubrey Hill said they're picking up the offense quickly. For such a young team, they're preparing the right way, and that's critical.
"Sometimes you have a lot of young kids who say Yeah, I want to win, but don't really do the little things to win and then you have to call them out on it," Hill said. "We haven't had to do that at this point. And also, in fairness to those guys, they are very competitive. When you learn a new offense, you have some things you have to correct, but when you come out the next day, you're not having to correct the same mistakes. So, that's a good sign."
Receiver LaRon Byrd is also a good sign. He's been studying a lot of game film. Not just any game film, though, vintage Miami film.
"You get the best of both worlds -- you've got a great offense you can learn from and you can learn from great cornerbacks who played on the 2001 team," Byrd said. "Not to say that last year was a downfall year, but at the same time it's not the Miami way. Like coach Shannon always preaches, when you look at great teams like that, from the five national championships, everybody around here expects to win at least 10 games a year. Every great program has their downfall, but hopefully we're going to rise again. I think we can get it started this year right here."
Byrd is one of many young players on Miami's roster growing into his reputation. So are players like Sean Spence, Travis Benjamin and Aldarius Johnson. They're a young team carrying expectations similar to the 2007 Virginia Tech team that had veterans like like Macho Harris, Xavier Adibi and Brandon Flowers.
"It's such an unknown," Hill said. "When you look at Virginia Tech over the last several years, teams that have won the ACC championship, what they've done, you know the players they had. There are so many new names on our team, but at the same time, if they're not new names, they're fairly young. But at the same time, our coaching staff feels very comfortable that even though we have young players, to a certain degree they're proven because they've already played."
The Canes circled the first game, and that's it. Everyone knows they're playing Florida State, and the players and coaches refuse to look past the Noles.
"Maybe if you're somewhere else, not necessarily within the ACC, maybe you wallow and say wow, man, this is a tough schedule," Hill said. "At the University of Miami ... we feel we can compete and play against anybody."
They can't afford to start the 2009 season believing anything less.
