This feature was written by official Canespace photographer OcalaCane. He lives deep in Lizard Land but he bleeds Orange and Green. Here is his profile of "The Warrior"...
“The Warrior” is a title fitting for a kicker from Jupiter High School in Palm Beach County. You see, Jupiter High’s nickname is The Warriors, and Matt Bosher demonstrated on the field last year why this title fits him like a glove. Little did any of us know that when Bosher came to The U that he would become the team MVP in 2008. Yes, he had great high school stats and won the Lou Groza award as a high school junior and senior. But people would have called you crazy if you would have picked the kicker as the pre-season MVP! At Jupiter High Bosher made 70% of his field goals, including one from 52 yards. Matt also handled kickoff duties equally as well. Most went into the end zone. Oh, and by the way, his recruiting bio says “He can punt also” and averaged 46.5 yards a punt in high school. Bosher was rated the #1 placekicker in the country by Scout.com. Rivals had him at #6. ESPN ranked him third. Matt was numero uno on the Florida Times Union Super 75. He soon demonstrated that he was as smart as he was talented when he eventually chose the Canes over the Crocs. In 2006, his first year at Miami, Matt was redshirted as a true freshman. Then came the 2007 season. “Don't get me started” I can still hear myself saying to 86Cane as one of Matt's punts went less than 20 yards and out of bounds. He was inconsistent at best and you never really knew what to expect on any single kick. I truly was his number one critic. Was I unfair to the freshman? Possibly. He improved as the season progressed and even managed to boot a 75 yard punt against Virginia Tech, the fourth longest in school history. He also added kickoff duties late in the season. He finished the year with stats that masked some very poor play at critical moments for an already struggling team. The punt is not the last play on offense it is the first play on defense. A great punter is truly a weapon for any team. And this Hurricane team needed a weapon, any weapon, in the worst of ways. Then came the beginning of Matt’s sophomore season. Luckily for us Coach Shannon is running this team and I (a fan) am not. When I heard that Matt was the starting punter and was going to handle all kicking duties including field goals the best I could manage was: “What? Are you kidding me?” The 2008 season opened. Game two was against Florida in Gainesville. I sat in the upper deck at the bog with 86Cane, Canechic, Angry and Carlos hoping, no praying for a Miami victory. Well you know how that turned out: not so good. The Canes lost to the Lizards 26-3 in the land of jorts. But Matt Bosher not only scored the only points for an anemic Canes offense he did it by nailing a 50 yard field goal! Then on a kickoff later in the game, Matt solidified his spot in Canes folklore forever. After kicking the ball deep, Bosher came down field on a mission and simply leveled the Florida returner. Just ask Gator Brandon James who was picked up and driven into the ground by the kicker wearing The U on his helmet! His solo, open-field tackle electrified his fans and team mates. I left this game with one thought: Matt Bosher is a Warrior. I even posted a written apology for my criticisms on the Space the next day. You see I learned that Matt is no ordinary kicker. He benches 325 lbs. and squats 455 lbs. And he loves to hit things hard! Matt went on to record 17of 19 field goals during the 2008 season with a long of 53 yards. He was 5 for 5 from 30 to 39 yards. His punting improved with a 40.1 average (including a 76 yarder) and 19 of his punts were downed inside the twenty. He out performed his opponents on kickoffs as well. And that weapon the Canes were so desperately looking for? All you need to know is that Bosher recorded more tackles than some of his starting defensive team mates. Most importantly he was the only Cane to receive All-ACC honors and was named team the Canes 2008 MVP. I am proud to say that I have become Matt's biggest fan. Matt Bosher is a Warrior and a weapon.
The Bosher is great, no doubt about it.

A Message from UM Track coach Amy Deem:
Spring is here and once again it’s time for the Miami Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program to host some of the world’s best athletes at Cobb Stadium.
Included in this prestigious group, is our own Hurricane Senior Murielle Ahoure. Coming off of a record setting indoor season, Ahoure dominated in the women’s 60 and 200 meter dash. En route to her NCAA Championship title in the 200m, Ahoure won both titles (60m and 200m) at the ACC Championships; thus being named both the ACC Conference and USTFCCCCA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Please join us as we host the Miami Elite Invitational (April 11th) and the ACC Conference Championships (April 16th-18th). For start times, please check our website, www.hurricanesports.com.
We are honored to have the opportunity to be the first UM sport to host an ACC Conference Championship event in school history, and would especially love for our Hurricane supporters to show our conference opponents what true Hurricane spirit is about!
On behalf of the track and field staff and student-athletes, we would like to thank you in advance for your continued support.
GO CANES!

Canes Spring Game televised on CSS on Saturday
We're going to be on Billy Donovan watch the next couple of days up here at our station.
Rumor is, he might be heading to Kentucky - I don't think that's the case, but, it's the rumor.
I don't think Billy Donovan's parents, Eddie Munster/Matt Damon, would like their love child to leave Jeremy Foley and the Crocs.

From www.hurricanesports.com:
The second-ranked University of Miami baseball team - winners of 14 of their last 15 ACC series - is set to host No. 3 Georgia Tech in a battle of two Top 5 teams this weekend at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
The Hurricanes (19-5, 7-2 ACC) are coming off a 13-6 win over FAU in Boca Raton on Wednesday, while the Yellow Jackets (16-3, 6-1 ACC) were rained out on Wednesday against rival Georgia. First pitch of the series is set for 7 p.m. Friday night with game two set for Saturday at 7 p.m. and the finale slated Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be televised live by CSS.
UM's Saturday starter - David Gutierrez (2-1) - has proven to be one of the league's top starters thus far, having not allowed more than one earned run in any of his five starts this season. In 30 2/3 innings, Gutierrez has given up just three earned runs while he is holding his opponents to just a .196 batting average against him.
Miami's closer - Kyle Bellamy - and set-up man - Taylor Wulf - have a combined ERA of just 0.60 this season, with the pair allowing just a combined two earned runs in 29 2/3 innings (22 combined appearances).
Bellamy, who leads the team in ERA (0.56) and saves (6), has struck out 25 in 16 innings while allowing opponents to hit just .175 against him. Wulf, who earned his first two wins of the season at No. 7 Virginia, owns a 0.66 ERA while striking out 16 in 13 2/3 innings.

Anyone recording the Spring game and converting to DVD?
Posted by: bg1906 | March 26, 2009 at 11:16 PM
BG, you beat me to the punch. haha
Calvin, if we can get that OL together and these guys play like Hurricanes, especially when they make a mistake and the other team scores, we can go 4-0 in September. To me, the rest will be gravy. Of course it won't be much easier but the talent level dropoff after those four games is almost steep.

Matt really showed heart and great improvement last year. He needs another solid year and he'll have a shot at the NFL. Problem is that there are so few spots open up annually... but once you make it, there's a good shot at longevity.

Hurriphin must be very happy today. Villanova has a very good chance to win it all. They have what Miami needs, great point guards (plural) and great play in the middle. And that Nova coach is HOT!
I hope Syracuse plays well tonight!

I know that is not fair in the least, but it was a, "where have I heard that before?" moment.
At least RS fairs well with the elder sibling:)
