Over the past few Spring Games Canes fans have been warned way ahead of time by coaches, players and media representatives that during the game:
- We should not to expect to see much if anything at all.
- The defense wouldn't show many formations and it would be very basic.
- The offense would be very bland and "vanilla".
We'll they were right each and every time. But Canes fans want the UM coaches to know that we are SICK of Vanilla. We want some serious Chocolate and we want it now!
This year, during the "Year Of Chocolate", we will look for improvements at the following positions during the Spring Game:
- Offensive Line: The biggest concern that most fans have going into the 2009 season starts right up front on the OL. Some fans have already begun pushing the panic button at this key position. Even legendary blogger "The Truth" has predicted a impending castastrophy along the O-line. We can't repeat what he called their performance on the blog, but it wasn't good. Canespace orignal member Calvin on the other hand has tried to comfort Canes fans worries by projecting confidence in the players and Coach Stoutland to get 'er done in 2009. We hope the Spring game will give us an indication of which prediction is more accurate.
- Cornerback: With 2008 Freshman sensation Brandon Harris and Junior DeMarcus VanDyke being criticized by some for their lack of size, strength and run support, many Canes fan are wondering who will cover who in 2009. Converted WR Sam Shields? Could be. Chavez Grant? Maybe. The new incoming freshmen like McGhee and Kent? Talented but raw. To be honest, we are not sure if the Canes have anybody who could even cover Canechic this year. AngryCane will testify that even with all of his "experience" that it is not an easy thing to do. Time will tell who balls and who rides the bench at CB for the Canes in 2009.
- Linebacker: The question on everybody's mind is: With former LB Coach Mike Barrow relieved of his previous duties as LB coach and allegedly promoted to "Defensive Assistant", which player will step up and who will step out at these three key positions under the leadership of new Defensive Coodinator John Lovett? Sean Spence will play somewhere. If he can get healthy, Colin McCarthy will also play. At MLB you have former #1 recruit Arthur Brown trying to unseat possibly the most improved player this Spring in Daryl Sharpton. Sir Arthur has blossomed as well this Spring since moving to the middle. He now has a chance to make plays and we think he will this season at MLB. He has to because if he doesn't there will no consoling Cat5.
- Running Back: In a bold prediction, bg1906 and Esteban report that Freshman RB Mike James will start and be the next Willis McGahee. No doubt. With Javaris James "nicked up" once again, look for the law firm of Cooper, Chambers and James (Mike) to tote the rock at Lockhart Stadium this Saturday. This position is solid going into 2009, and will only get better when Lamar "Truth" Miller of Miami Killian High School (Go Cougars!) arrives in the Fall.
- Wide Receiver: Canespace legend SolarCane reports that Aldarius Johnson is by far the best WR on the talented Canes squad and will almost certainly be a top 10 draft choice. In other news, Solar has openly admitted to having a "man crush" on Canes wideout Thearon Collier, who will work out of the slot position along with Kendal Thompkins and Davon Johnson this year. It is widely recognized among most of the experts that Collier has the talent, the work ethic and the potential to be a successful WR in the NFLU. Time will tell who leads the Canes in receptions, yards and TDs in 2009. My money, so to speak, is on AJ.

Soup,
Here's a little something I have a feeling you never read before
put words in (to) someone's mouth
Fig. to interpret what someone said so that the words mean what you want and not what the speaker wanted. I didn't say that! You are putting words into my mouth. Stop putting words in my mouth!

lol

funny article btw!

Forget chocolate, it's a single flavor like vanilla.
I want Moose Tracks, Rocky Road, cherries, nuts, sprinkles and whipped cream so that whatever I've eating. I don't know what's coming next.
Posted by: Old Skool | March 27, 2009 at 08:44 PM
Bottom 5th, 5-3 Canes, 2 out following Hagerty K and three up three down with Grandal lining out to RF...going to GT top of the 6th.
Posted by: JCane | March 27, 2009 at 08:53 PM
BTW, time to give the big 12 their due in hoops. OU and Mizzou both are looking more than solid.
Posted by: JCane | March 27, 2009 at 08:55 PM
"Year of Chocolate"....lol...classic.
Souper, you have two typos...."Sir Arthur has blossomed as "weel"....and "Get 'er" should be "Git Er"" according to the country dictionary. I'm sure Solar can back me up on this since he has undoubtedly witnessed hundreds of t-shirts and bumper stickers with the correct spelling. haha
Nice work as usual.

Old Skool you do have a serious point with the single flavor thing.
How about the Year of Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors??

I agree Jcane!

Top of 6th, one in for GT, now down 5-4. One out, Rudman coming in for Hernandez to pitch for the Canes with the bases juiced. Hold on to your hats.

Damm, talk about rebuilding bridges?? Shannon is doing some serious work.
Super, that should be great for the GA cat and his family. Maybe he'll spend some time with AB who will explain to him that sometimes playing with your brother isn't in the cards.
Posted by: Chinese Punisher aka Cavaleer | March 27, 2009 at 09:06 PM
1-2 count for Garofalo of GT with one down and the bases loaded......Crap. Grand Slam over the LF wall. Now 8-5 GT. Cardiac Canes are at it again.
Posted by: JCane | March 27, 2009 at 09:07 PM
Louisville wins by 39, ouch!
orangeman losing by 22.
8 to 5 GT HR

Canes4Life you are officially recorded as picking The Blur Benjamin and Sir Arthur for your LOF.
And you can call me Chi or Cav for short. The full name was an improvisation of sorts, not really intended for blob-use. lol
Rock on....

10 to 5 GT
Posted by: canechic | March 27, 2009 at 09:11 PM
Canefan3 hit the nail on the head to me when he said in the last blob that what we really want to see is IMPROVEMENT and EXECUTION, not so much hyper-speed formations and plays. I just want to see everyone look crisp, sharp, hungry and strong.
That's vanilla and chocolate. They can add all the sprinkles in Fall Ball.
Posted by: Chinese Punisher aka Cavaleer | March 27, 2009 at 09:12 PM
2 out, man on 1st, and a HR over the RF fence this time. Now 10-5 GT with the Jackets plating 7 so far in the 6th. I think I'm going to take a break on the game. I'm clearly not good luck at the moment. :(
Posted by: JCane | March 27, 2009 at 09:13 PM
The feedjit is pretty cool. I'm in Quebec for spring break with my kids and it shows the city were in. Next Month I'll be in Russia for work, and will try it there..
Posted by: TJL | March 27, 2009 at 09:13 PM
CC, Pitino can coach college BBall, that is now official. haha
Why is Little Munster, I mean Donovan, going to the UK where there's pressure and expectations to win well every year?? At UF he could goof off for another four or five years and no one would care. lol
Posted by: Chinese Punisher aka Cavaleer | March 27, 2009 at 09:14 PM
BTW, Canechic, :) I have no idea, but it would be cool if so. Regardless, I'd have preferred Rudman have pitched him a bit better. OU is 14 up late in the game vs. Syracuse, and like you said, Louisville kicked some major butt. I think they're serving notice that they're a team to be reckoned with.
Alright, the top of the 6th is done. Finally! Down by 5, time to get a couple back. I suppose the positive for UM tonight is that they haven't committed any errors yet!? I'll check back on the game action later. Have a good one.
Posted by: JCane | March 27, 2009 at 09:18 PM
TJL, could you tell me what the situation's like in Russia, socio-political-economic. I'm just curious to hear a first hand account. Just an impression, nothing researched or anything like that. Thanks in advance.
JCane, thanks for the updates anyway. Baseball's a funny game that way.

BTW, for those concerned about the 'Bama hoops job, obviously it is now a non-issue for Haith. The other frequently mentioned UM hope, A. Grant of VCU, is now the head man at UA:

I'm watching the University of Spoiled Children Trojans play Arizona State in baseball on another channel.
I think I found a team worse than Miami in the error category, USC has committed 45 errors so far in 20 games.
Fight On Trojans, Fight On.

Gonzaga is going to beat UNC tonight.
You heard it here first, ha.

WOW - the USC announcer just said "Arizona State can have Barry Bonds, that cheating swine ... my home run king is still Hank Aaron"
I guess it's a good thing that the game is being broadcast on Trojan TV All-Access.

Post-Spring Game party to include former Canes
By CaneSport.com Staff
The football alumni group Canes 4 Life, CaneSport.com, Radio Station 790 The Ticket, and Miami Prime Grill are teaming to present the first annual Hurricanes Spring Game After Party, which will be held Saturday March 28 from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. at Miami Prime.
The event, created by former Miami Hurricane Gerard Daphnis in conjunction with 790 The Ticket’s Saturday Sports Smack and CaneSport Radio host Bruce Warner and CaneSport.com Publisher Gary Ferman, will feature the appearance of more than 50 former Miami Hurricane players. The goal is to make it an annual celebration of the Hurricane family.
There will be food and beverages, music, autograph signings, a kids zone and more. Canes merchandise will also be available. Miami Prime Grill is located at 16395 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami Beach.

“When Gerard Daphnis approached us about becoming involved in this event, my first thought was that it was a brilliant idea and the second was that it was way beyond time for us to create a public gathering where former Hurricane players can mingle with their fans in a fun environment,” CaneSport Publisher Gary Ferman said. “Some of the NFL superstars who are the face of Hurricane football to the nation will certainly attend. But this event is also about all of the other guys who have spilled blood for the program but whose path in life took them in a direction other than the NFL. We will honor them and celebrate alongside them on this special day, which we hope to make an annual event.”
The full player roster will be announced as the event approaches. Players already confirmed or expected to attend this year are Mike Adams (1975), OJ Anderson (1975), Jessie Armstead (1989), Andy Atrio (1995), Tolbert Bain (1984), Rudy Barber (1990), Robert Bass (1991) Coleman Bell (1990), Edgar Benes (1987), Donnell Bennett (1991), Kenny Berry (1987), Brian Blades (1984), Bennie Blades (1985), Dominic Brandy (1967), Melvin Bratton (1984), Kevin Brinkworth (1991), Nate Brooks (1995), Freeman Brown (1994), Hurlie Brown (1988), James Burgess (1993), Dinavin Bythwood (1992), Mark Caesar (1989), Lamont Cain (1994), Larry Cain (1973), Kenny Calhoun (1981), Carlos Callejas (1996), Marcus Carey (1990), Jermaine Chambers (1992), Bernard Clark (1986), Ryan Clement (1993), Wesley Carroll (1989), Tony Coley (1992), Ryan Collins (1991), Horace Copeland (1990), Mike Crissy (1993), Marvin Davis (1992), Pat Del Vecchio (1996), Otis Fowler (1989), Corwin Francis (1991), Jammi German (1993), Chris Gibson (1992), Frank Glover (1974), Derrick Golden (1988), Yatil Green (1994), Casey Greer (1989), Derrick Ham (1995), Bobby Harden (1986), Kelvin Harris (1987), Terris Harris (1991), Jonathan Harris (1991), Derrick Harris (1991), J Ina (1992), Cliff Jackson (1993), Carlos Jones (1992), Chris T.
