The #1 ranked high school player for 2009 who happens to be from Kansas, decided to spend his college years as a student (cough, cough) - athlete in the great State of Tennessee.
Good bye, good luck and for many Canes fans, good riddance! We wish him the best of luck tormenting the Florida Gators and other SEC opponents over the next three years.
But first, the "Material Boy" (as he became known around here) will have to earn playing time, see the field and carry the ball for the Volunteers or he will be hearing all 105,000 Tennessee fans chanting the phrase we all know and love: "over-rated".
As for your Miami Hurricanes, they have plenty of talent at the position in current running backs Javaris James, Graig Cooper and Lee Chambers and talented freshman Mike James from Ridge High School and former Miami Killian Cougar Lamar Miller.
Now if we can only get the offensive line to open some holes...
bye bye peace

i think we have wasted too much time on this child already! Very sad that his parents let this get out of hand, he will now become a pawn in redneck land of Tenn.! As I always tell Angry and my kids generally "Mom know's Best".
Good luck to you bryce but sometimes lessons are learned the hard way and you are just beginning to learn!
Go Canes!
Anybody notice but the Canes and Gators may play soon!

i'll personally do a "water boy" running drop kick on Bryce
Posted by: UMike | March 16, 2009 at 02:48 PM
Glad we can move on (even though I did beginning Feb 4)...the only thing that could make Tennessee more of a circus is if Bobby Drama suddenly had an offer to play there. That would be perfect and I almost wish for it to happen.
Posted by: shwarma | March 16, 2009 at 02:50 PM
Actually, I am starting the campaign right now for Bobby Drama to Rocky Top. Here is the bumper sticker as it has a nice ring to it
BD 4 UT QB!
Posted by: shwarma | March 16, 2009 at 02:52 PM
We can finally close this BB chapter for good and move on.
I just hope UM plays UT down the road and big brother knocks him out, stands over him and says "you got knocked the F*ck out ala what Smokey said to Debo in the movie Friday.
Posted by: raizecane | March 16, 2009 at 02:54 PM
i always had a feeling ever since bryce came down and watched a high school game he knew what time it was.funny but we are 5 deep at running back plus gore next year, goo dluck singing that god awful rocky top song

bg,
I don't know what he and his momma where fighting over. God never made it to Randy's desk.
In fact I think God made it over to ESPN and allowed to report something positive about UM for once.
Posted by: The Truth | March 16, 2009 at 02:57 PM
Once he saw Lamar Miller play live againt DADE talent, he knew he wasn't coming here.
Posted by: UMike | March 16, 2009 at 02:58 PM
You gotta wonder if PP watched the circus and thought: "Hot damn. I'm a trendsetter."
Posted by: Old Skool | March 16, 2009 at 03:01 PM
I guess God didn't say the same thing to momma that He said to Bryce.
I always go with momma on these things.

You know having two potential starting sons going to the same school had to have started out as a mothers dream. No wonder she's mad.
A man that would make his mother cry should be ashamed of himself.
Another thing, I believe in God and I Believe God gives people signs But.. I dont believe God wants his people to look foolish in front of agnostics and non-beleivers.
And I dont believe God likes to see mothers cry either!

I think this will work out better for everybody. Tennessee could use a big name right about now. Bryce needs -- really, really needs -- that 105,000 person stadium experience (and even that may not be big enough. . .).
And Miami needs a stable of running backs that knows it has to compete to get playing time.

Here is what Heather at ESPN says...
Bryce Brown picks Tennessee
March 16, 2009 3:07 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich
It's finally over. As most Miami fans probably have already heard, former recruit Bryce Brown has chosen Tennessee.
Arguably the two best recruiting moves by ACC coaches this winter resulted in not getting the player, and both Randy Shannon and Paul Johnson will be better off for it.
Miami grew weary of Brown's drama, and Johnson refused to sit by and let quarterback recruit Dontae Aycock visit Auburn when he specifically asked him not to after already committing to Georgia Tech.
Ability and talent are great, unless they outweigh character and commitment. And in these cases, at least, two coaches determined that trade-off wasn't worth it.
Posted by: bg1906 | March 16, 2009 at 03:39 PM
Didn't Bryce say he was praying and fasting about this decision for weeks. hmmm... His last visit was to Tenn a week ago. It doesn't sound like God was in the decision at all. What a weak minded person. We don't need weak minded individuals we had that in Robert Marve, Lance Legett, Kirby Freeman, and on and on and on the list goes from the last couple years.

any 'Spacers coming to the ocean state for the PC-UM game? i'll be there in full 'Cane gear, darius rice jersey and all...
Posted by: Ocean State Cane | March 16, 2009 at 03:50 PM
Ok...so we let BB go..we finally got rid of the likes of Romeo Davis and Glenn Cook. We are stocked with talent and will be even more so come next year. All we need now is for Marve to commit to and out of state school to make himself look like an ass and miami look good and were smooth sailing back to glory.

In the new National Collegiate Baseball Writers poll Miami moves up to #4 this week from #7 last week.
Posted by: Cane Since 1982 | March 16, 2009 at 03:56 PM
Caneslegend,
I agree with some of it but Kirby Freeman and his family are as fine a group of people as you would ever want to meet. Even after basically being asked to leave Miami for his senior year, he has yet to say one negative thing about The U.
He was always a competitor and a good teammate, even under very trying conditions. Just a fine young man who went to the wrong school but took it all with class.
Posted by: texascane | March 16, 2009 at 03:58 PM
It's only a matter of time before the ncaa looks at the BB commmitment to Tenn. and find something, florida will make the first move to the ncaa....
Posted by: doc in pv | March 16, 2009 at 04:01 PM
Whew! Thank God! (No Pun intended) He would have been tore up over at the U. He would have been unhappy and would transfer out... Now that would have been a circus!
Posted by: PinoyCane | March 16, 2009 at 04:03 PM
Texascane...I agree with you. Even though I am glad to see A LOT of people gone..for the sake of having a more talented football team, i have always wished them nothing but the best. Now thats not always the case with players such as Marve (cause he is a liar), but even players like Wright, Freeman, Cook, Davis, Reddick etc..I wish them the best..they choose to come here and will always be Canes. It's not their fault Cocker didn't recuit enough talent to push them to be better. Hell..I still root for ol' Willie Williams to this day.

The Mandingo told me that the Clements and Gore are as talented as any and that the Canes are all over that. Should be another story with a happy ending for The U.

From Tom Luginbill (Scouts Inc via ESPN)
"Although losing out on Brown may not hurt the LSUs of the world, Miami could've have used his services. I applaud the Hurricanes for taking a hard-line stance with Brown. Miami gave him a date by which he had to make a decision. When he failed to decide by that date, the Hurricanes and coach Randy Shannon retracted their scholarship offer. "
And he still shows up with a Miami Hat??? Wow, what a clown!!

The baseballers have some tough sledding ahead
Va, GT, FSU and Clemson all good ACC teams,
Va has leaders in almost every individual category also.
We need early runs and less errors from here on in

Lets just hope JJ can stay healthy and Miller and Mike James live up to the hype. I'm very curious to see how Bryce does. I kinda wonder if the is going to fall victim to the over hype that Arthur had.
Posted by: canefan3 | March 16, 2009 at 05:01 PM
Truth,
Question now is...
Does The U ever associate itself with someone aligned with this Butler character?
Because other than AB, how many KS players have been part of Miami U history?
The best part is now Arthur Jr, can (hopefully) focus on improving without the constent questions.
