One tradition that we have established at Canespace is that each year bloggers are asked to select their personal choices for what we like to call "Legends of the Fall".
This tradition actually started when CanesGirlNC (seen here competing in equestrian events), who is without a doubt a legend herself here on Canespace, started a series of player features with the same title. Last year she wrote features about Kenny Dorsey and Jeremy Shockey among others.
True "Legends" are those players who the fans feel will be the most outstanding and/or dominant players for the Canes on offense and defense each year.
Some bloggers choose first year players who are likely to break on the scene as freshman.
Last year those players were Sean Spence and Aldarius Johnson.
There are your usual suspects at the "star" positions like QB, RB and WR and then there are those unexpected surpises like kicker, punter and lead body slammer Matt Bosher who just happened to be the Canes 2008 MVP (seen here with OcalaCane).
Other bloggers are more traditional or conservative in their picks and select juniors or seniors who are projected to finally have that incredible breakout season. These are picks that could really be any defensive or offensive player who may be primed to explode on the scene after a solid previous season or a spectacular Summer with Swasey.
Offensive and defensive linemen may not be popular or sexy picks but they are just as eligible as any other position player. And don't forget special teams standouts too who can change a game with that one big play that shifts the entire momentum of a game.
Some bold predictions even result in selections of completely unexpected dark horse candidates for this honor (Ryan Hill and Sam Shields seen here). If these picks actually play out, they look like absolute geniuses. This is the most risky, but potentially most rewarding, approach of all.
It's your choice. One offensive and one defensive player, U choose, U win!
Here’s FU Coach Urban’s all purpose quote anytime he’s questioned about specific allegations involving one of his players.
Just fill in the blank..,
"We won two national championships and 44 games, most in the SEC during that time period, and some of the greatest years in the history of Florida football," Meyer said.
"And I was on the sidelines [during that time] with a guy that I know exactly the competitive nature that we're dealing with. _______ is an extreme competitor."
Jamar Hornsby
Ronnie Wilson
Nyan Boateng
Taurean Charles
Dusty Doe
Carl Johnson
Torrey Davis
Cam Newton
Percy Harvin
Now that’s a character reference.

Great article by Manny. We need Wall.
Posted by: SuperCooper | April 23, 2009 at 08:39 AM
If you all want to change the rules where U pick ANY two players (can be two on offense, two on defense or one and one) that is fine, but U still get ONLY two picks.
Posted by: 86Cane | April 23, 2009 at 08:42 AM

Ocala...thought U might like that!
DAT...U know my guy on offense is Aldarius Johnson, who I picked last year, and who will be a first round draft pick.
But Mike James is my PICK for this year on O. I picked Shields as a sentimental choice. Not sure how much he will play but after talking to his dad after the SPRING GAME I have a special feeling for Sam.
Telemaque has been (prematurely) compared to a young ST#26 and is a very popular choice to do BIG things this year.
Don Bailey picked Byrd along with several others (Jacory, MJ, Shields).

The only way the Canes can compete for an ACC title or the NC (I'm being overly optimistic...I have a good feeling about this though) is for the DB to be solid all year. I'm struggling between picking DVD or VT (since everyone has high expectation from VT), I'll pick DVD. So, my legions are: DVD and JH..
Soup and 86, mark this down please. you guys will call me a genius comes november lol...

From www.hurricanesports.com:
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The 11th-ranked University of Miami baseball team picked up its fifth straight mid-week win with a 13-7 victory over Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
With the game knotted 7-7 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Miami (27-13) scored four runs in the frame to take the lead for good over FGCU (22-16). The go-ahead run came when Iden Nazario - who doubled to right-center to start the rally - scored from second on a Chris Herrmann single up the middle. Moments later, Harold Martinez followed with a walk before Dave DiNatale smacked a deep three-run homer to left to put the `Canes up four.
Scott Lawson led UM with three hits, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored while five other Hurricanes recorded two hits on the night. Martinez finished 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored, DiNatale went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Herrmann finished 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and three runs scored while Jason Hagerty went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Nazario also had two hits and two RBI off the bench.
Reliever Daniel Miranda (3-2) earned the win, holding the Eagles hitless while striking out two in 1 2/3 innings. Starter Jason Santana allowed five earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one in 4 2/3 innings. Rene Guerra relieved Santana to record the final out of the fifth before Sam Robinson (1 IP, 1 ER), Miranda and Kyle Bellamy (1 1/3 IP, 0 ER) finished out the game for UM.

More from the official UM web site:
NEW ORLEANS -As announced by the USTFCCCA, the University of Miami women's track team has moved up four spots to a season-best No. 15 ranking in the national poll, after its performance at the ACC Championship in Coral Gables this past weekend.
"Obviously I feel like we could have performed better at ACC's," said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem, after the Hurricanes placed fifth over the weekend. "I still feel that we have every opportunity to be successful at the national meet, if we continue to improve."
One of the main reasons Miami made the jump in the polls was the season debut of senior Murielle Ahoure in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. The sprinter won the ACC Championships in both events and her trial times of 11.34 and 22.98 rank Nos. 13 and 3 in the NCAA this season.
In addition to Ahoure, Kristy Whyte (100m, 200m), Tameka Jameson (400m hurdles) and Deandra Doyley (long jump) all improved on their previous regional qualifying marks to aid the team's jump in the polls.
