An Achilles’ heel is a fatal weakness in spite of overall strength, actually or potentially leading to downfall. While the mythological origin refers to a physical vulnerability, metaphorical references to other attributes or qualities that can lead to their downfall are common.
Since this is a college (sports) blog, we will continue your education:
The death of Achilies was not mentioned in Homer's (no we are NOT talking about FantasyCane) Illiad, but appeared in later Greek and Roman poetry and drama concerning events after the Iliad, later in the Trojan War (no reference to USC intended).
Here and in the myths surrounding the war, Achilles died from a heel wound as the result of an arrow—possibly poisoned—shot by Paris (NOT Hilton dummy).
According to a myth arising later, his mother, Thetis, had dipped the infant Achilles in the river Stxy (NOT the band, the river stupid), holding onto him by his heel, and he became invulnerable where the waters touched him -- that is, everywhere but the areas covered by her thumb and forefinger (much like Canechic holds AngryCane), implying that only a heel wound could have been his downfall.
The use of “Achilles’ heel” as an expression used for “area of weakness, vulnerable spot” dates only to 1855 (Merriam-Webster). It derived from the Greek "Achilleios pterna" literally meaning Achilles’ heel. Let that be a lesson to all of you!
The University of North Carolina swept the three game series with your Miami Hurricanes in Chapel Hill over the weekend. The Tar Heels exposed Miami's achilies' heel (all five of them):
- Suddenly very average starting pitching;
- An inconsistent and very hittable bullpen;
- The lack of a reliable hitters to drive in runs with men on base;
- The lack of a serious long ball hitter;
- The inability of this young team to win on the road in the ACC.
The Canes are a young team that entered the season with limited expectations after losing significant talent from last year's team to the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
UM Coach Jim Morris was morking his usual magic early in the season and helped the Canes to an excellent start. The Canes moved up the rankings after their early success against the Gators and Seminoles. But after dropping two of three games at Clemson and now three straight at UNC, the Canes are on the outside looking in their bid to repeat as ACC Champs in 2009.
The Canes now return home for a lengthy home stand and the friendly confines of Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
They will need to return to their winning ways and gain confidence as they head towards the ACC championship May 21-24 in Durham, NC.
And, they will need Canes fans to come out and support them as they attempt to regain their mojo and build momentum during the second half of the season.
We suggest that U follow the Canespace rules from here on in:
- Show up.
- Stay to the end.
-
Good things are bound to happen!
there is a 1st for everybody

1. If Jacory doesn't watchout, Taylor Cook will be the starting QB by end of season.
2. The players looked bigger, stronger, and faster. Look like football players.
3. Shannon smiling on the sidelines, and Whipple joking with Coop on the sideline. Past two seasons interaction with coaches and players missing...good thing!
Posted by: MDCane | April 19, 2009 at 11:35 AM
1. Dude put down the pipe and step back from the table. Not unless everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, who knows a LOT more than me and U is COMPLETELY wrong. JaScory has it locked up this year. Next year MIGHT be different but NOT this year.
2. Absolutley TRUE! Good call there. Across the board they are bigger, stronger, faster. Last year they looked like HS kids (which they were), this year like college players (which they are).
3. They are having FUN again. One insider told me recently, and it wasn't hard to see to the caual observer, that the team was NOT having any fun. Football needs to be fun, not misery. If you dread putting on the uniform, going to pratcice or aren't happy and hyped on game day then why play the game? Shannon has shifted his approach just slightly, not sure why, but probably many reasons. The coaching chemistry is MUCH better, and player relations are positive and supportive. Football is fun again at UM.

I love when our commitments talk like this.
Tavadis Glenn...
"I'm locked in and committed," he said. "But I do wanna go out and enjoy the process, take some visits. USC offered me and they've only offered three defensive tackles in the whole nation and I'm one of them. I'll be looking at them, LSU, and Clemson. They both offered me too, along with schools like FIU, South Carolina, USF, and UCF."
One school that hasn't offered Glenn yet is Florida. He talked about his interest in the Gators.
"I ain't going to Florida even if they do offer me," he said. "I think the reason people talked about me and Florida is because my brother loves Florida. I don't ever wanna be in that uniform. I made the best decision I could and I think we're gonna have

I dont believe anything that comes out of these kids mouths. Watch he will end up a Gator when it is all said and done. The process sucks. When they committ they should sign their letter of intent on the spot. This I am committed but am going to look around thing is absolute joke. I am not going to hold my breath for these kids any more.

*Tar Heels Prove To Be Cane's Achilies' Heel.
NC... becoming a power house of the big 3 sports?
Just a quickie!
North Carolina might be the top program in Sports, across the board. Basketball, Baseball, and now climbing the ladder in Football
Basketball
2009 won championship
2008 lost in final 4 of tourney
2007 lost in elite 8 of tourney
2006 lost in 1st round of tourney
Baseball
2009 currently ranked 4th and have won the last (4) series against us!
2008, losing to Fresno St in semi finals of bracket 2 (game 14) of the CWS
2007 runner up losing to Oregon St. in the championship playoff of CWS. finished ranking #2
2006 runner up losing to Oregon St. in the championship playoff of CWS. Finished ranking #2.
Football
2008... 8/5 losing their bowl game 30/31 to W Virginia but beat us!!!
2007... 4/8 Butch's 1st year and beat us!!!
2006... 3/9
Current Football stadium holds 60,000 but agreed to improvements and upgrades when Butch Davis was brought on board with a $50 million stadium (renovation) plan and will add two floors to the Kenan Football Center complex on the west end of the field -- one floor of offices and one floor of luxury suites. Improvements are state of the art and in 2 phases... increasing capacity another 5,000/15,000 seats.
Hate to say it but NC might be the new sherrif in the ACC,... Time will tell but Miami better start beef'n up, cause the boy's are getting pumped!
NC needs a smack down!

"Thanks guys. I tell you UM has given our son so much love. My family and I really appreciate the way you guys embraced Jack."

Thanks Jack for your contributions to UM and thanks to Suzanne for reading Canespace!

The infamous 91 Ruthless Posse went 12 and oh together while Torretta pulled the trigger
Lamar Thomas, Horace Copeland, Kevin Williams, Coleman Bell.
The kids we have at receiver right now could easily be as good if not better by their junior years.
Toretta threw for 3,095 yrds with Lamar catching 623 of them. So all the receivers caught passes.
Steven McGuire led the 91 team in rushing with only for 608 yrds.
That team went 12-0 the Team MVP that year?
...Carlos Huerta Place kicker
What we don't have on this team is Leon Searcy,Rudy Barber, Claude Jones, or Mario Christabol.
I definitely think real big things are right around the corner for Jacory's Canes.
peace

So sad to hear about Edge's lady. I have a cousin who is battling leukemia and is using a stem-cell based technique to convert her blood from O to A, so that the leukemia cells can't feed off her blood. She's doing well but it's a long, delicate process. She's 42.
But the point of both situations is that the health of your blood and your body is directly related to what you eat and drink. Something triggers the mutation of cells into leukemia. It's not a virus.
My cousin was technically healthy but she had lived a carefree life as far as nutrition was concerned. I saw her perhaps a year before she was diagnosed and I could see some malady in her eyes and skin. I didn't know what it was obviously but I knew she was in poor-health. She didn't "feel" sick or anything until later but the leukemia was already there.
It could've been anything though.
I've studied nutrition and such since I was 20 when I read a few books and became a vegetarian. Seven years later I started lifting weights again and my muscles demanded meat, so I started eating meat again. No problem either way. In fact, I became healthier and stronger living a vigorous, outdoors lifestyle and eating meat and cooking my own food.
But the basics that I learned haven't changed.
--Food you make is almost always healthier than something prepared by someone else, I don't care how much it costs or how beautifully it's presented.
--Cooked, white sugar is poison.
--Colas are poison.
--Things wrapped in plastic are generally full of shyt your body doesn't like or need. --If you're not living a very vigorous lifestyle you don't need and can't digest red meat OR large amounts of carbohydrates.
--Fast food is almost universally unhealthy. Taco Bell is the WORST.
--Good clean water is the most important thing you can put in your body, followed by lightly cooked vegetables, fresh fruit and herbal teas, like green or white tea.
--Outside is always better than inside.
Back when I was in NYC and vegetarian I would fight the flu vaccine they would give to people every year because I didn't take the vaccine. I battled it for about two days before finally overcoming it. But since I began living vigorously, eating well, and taking the right herbs, I don't even notice it when I'm around people who just received the vaccine.
A good book is "Eat Right for Your Type", which details the diets and lifestyles best suited for the various blood-types.
As a nation, we will be facing a national health crisis for the remainder of all of our lives. This coming generation of Americans will be the most unhealthy in the history of the SPECIES. Everyday I drive around I see some appalling sight involving obesity, usually with children. It's sickening.
Please people, take care of your health. If you don't have your health you don't have anything.
Now we return to our regularly schedule programming. haha

CGNC, if you take a few herbs like licorice and sarsaparilla and a couple of others you can clean out the bad stuff from the non-organic food. I don't buy organic because I take the herbs. I do, however, only drink artesian water. Regular spring water just doesn't cut it. lol
