This is my last input on "the sky isn't falling it's on fire" guys.

Back when The Ft Lauderdale International Airport was Stranahan High School, and before Stranahan high School was the Naval Air Base we used to tromp around in the everglades.

We would watch the jets and bombers practicing way way out there.. guess what...
they were trailing these enormous CHEM TRAILS!!! OMG!!!

think for awhile guys... this is like 1958. We must have been developing this horrible ice up the atmosphere and scare the shyt out of the US citizens for quite awhile.

You guys stay inside and peek out between the blinds, me I'm going fishin.

No disrespect to any of you, you know i love everyone of you, but bogeymen don't scare me

who ya gonna call?

DZ8, those asteroids are serious. Better start building that bunker right now. haha Have a good weekend.

What I want to know from the recruiting gurus, BG, Truth, Canez1, DJ et al is if this year's talent is so great in SoFl, are there enough players that fit the U's profile to make this class better than 2008??

Old Skool

Today, while grocery shopping with Mrs Solarcane, I fumbled through The Lindy preseason College Magazine and on their College ALL DECADE TEAM:

K-2
B Mckinnie
Sean Taylor
Ed Reed
were first teamers

We will have a few All Americans soon, and then we will dominate that list like we used to.

Urban going to the pro style, he wouldn't lie to a recruit would he???
peace

FLORIDA: Blue-chip quarterback prospect Jesse Scroggins III from Lakewood, Calif., said Florida’s coaching staff (i.e. quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler) is telling recruits that a more pro-style offense is being installed. The Gators coaches told him they’re going to more of a pro-style offense, because NFL teams don’t run the spread, which he says was good to hear since he’s more of a pro-style quarterback.

Right or wrong, the perception is out there that Florida doesn’t prepare receivers or other skill position for the NFL. Back in April, four-star Pahokee receiver De’Joshua Johnson said he dropped Florida and West Virginia because of the spread offense.

Gator coach Urban Meyer is mostly right about Florida’s success in the draft. Starting with the 2006 NFL Draft (2005 doesn’t count because it came just four months after Meyer took the Florida job), the Gators have had five true receivers drafted (Percy Harvin, Louis Murphy, Andre Caldwell, Dallas Baker and Chad Jackson), plus tight end Cornelius Ingram this year.

Jackson is on his second team already and has just one catch since 2006. Caldwell had 11 catches last year as a rookie. Baker caught one pass as a rookie. Murphy slid to the fourth round in this year’s draft, and Ingram fell to the fifth because of a knee injury. Harvin and Jackson were the only receivers drafted in the top two rounds, and Jackson has already been a bust. A lot is riding on Harvin in terms of proving that Meyer’s offense can prepare players for the NFL.

Gator players go on ride-alongs

UF worried about image in light of many arrests

By DAVID JONES
news-press.com sports bureau

GAINESVILLE — After all the negative attention the Florida football program has gotten over its increasing number of run-ins with law enforcement, the Gators have decided to try something different — getting an inside look at police work.

UF players have joined in a ride-along program offered by the Gainesville Police Department to the general public. UF coach Urban Meyer expressed an interest in getting his team involved, to help them get a first-hand look at what the police officers go through each day. The Gainesville Police Department welcomed the request.

The first ride-alongs were conducted Thursday.

The Gators have captured two of the last three national championships in football but, along the way, the university's image has been tainted by legal issues, which have continued during the offseason.

Since 2005, Florida players have been involved in a total of 24 arrests - 15 misdemeanors and nine felonies. Just 15 of the players were recruited by the current coaching staff. But the numbers and the attention they have gotten caused UF to react.

Meyer released a statement this week in which he said, "We are by no means perfect."

He added, "We are disappointed when we encounter some issues along the way, but we are going to continue to educate our players."

The ride-alongs will be part of that plan to educate them, allowing the players to see the issues that the local police encounter each night.

"No one works harder in this area than Urban, I see it every day," UF athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a recent statement about Meyer's pro-active stance.

"Anyone who can't see his desire to influence young men positively and make them better citizens has no idea who he is as a coach and a human being."

****For some reason the article forgot to bring up the fact that the players are riding in the back of the police car in hand-cuffs.

The Truth

Please tell Ms. Fancy britches up in the right hand corner plays Center...

The Truth

I love it...

"Just 15 of the players were recruited by the current staff.."

Let's see, 24 total. 15 from the current staff. 24-15 = 9. 9 from the old staff.

15 > 9

That would be THE MAJORITY of the 24 players arrested were recruited by the "current" staff.

Old Skool

Nope, she's a wide receiver who specializes in running the end around.

When the Croc players do the ride-a-longs with the GPD, you think the GPD has a hard time convincing the players to sit in the front seat?

It's like opening the car door for your dog and it automatically goes to the spot it's used to sitting in.

The GPD should just take Polaroids of each player while they're doing the ride-a-longs and put them up at the station, so they can have a March Madness type of pool of which one they'll put the handcuffs on next .... or just keep the Polaroids taped on the ceiling of their police cruiser and play "Arrest A Croc Bingo" - so when the next UiF player is nabbed, every cop playing has to take the picture down out of their car.

CanesgirlNC

Arrest a Croc Bingo????? LMAO!!

LSU Closer Matty Ott -

Co-SEC Frosh of the Year
Finalist for the Stopper of the Year Award
Tied for 4th in the nation in saves (16)
Just saved the game for LSU against Virginia with a runner on 3rd.

Glenn Cook was drafted and he hasn't played ball since being a junior in high school.

I don't think he is eligible to be drafted until after his Junior year.

First year MLB draft rules

The Truth

86

You have NO CHANCE at winning that bottle.

When the DE is already out running the WR it doesn't bode well for that WR's draft status...

#56 will be drafted higher than any other player he plays with while he is at Miami.

HeMan is the man...

The Truth

Skool...I think you missed my point...

At Center she'd have to bend over...

Oh never mind. I'm going to get in trouble for that one.

LOL

The Truth

She would look great with rosie cheeks is what I'm sayin...

Six

Galagos - great call & catch on my mistake, stupid rule by MLB .... BUT, if that rule is true, then how did Scott Matyas (Minnesota) get drafted by the Yankees at the 885th pick, and he's a Sophmore? Is he a 21 year old Sophmore?

MLB not allowing a kid to be drafted in his 1st or 2nd year in a 4 year shool, but allows a kid to be drafted from a 2 year school and a high school kid - is stupid.

How about this then,

Eric Pettis, UC Irvine, Jr. tied for 3rd in the nation in saves (17) - not drafted

Glenn Cook, drafted.

Esteban

Truth, you have me thinking hard about who might be drafted higher than #56. The best candidates I got are #47, #57, #35 and #99.

Esteban

Six, Alex Fernandez transfered from UM after his freshman year so he could get drafted a year sooner. I actually like the baseball rules and think the NBA should adopt it. If the wants to go pro straight out of high school he can. If he can't get good grades but isn't ready than two year school or Europe. Got grades and not ready u got college route with ability to switch to two year school or leave for Europe early if you don't want to wait the three years like u might have thought at first.

Six

Este - I can understand that line of thinking esp. when it comes to NCAA basketball.

I guess I would think though, say a kid that is a Sr. in high school gets drafted in the 17th Round. He instead goes to The "U" for a year, starts as a Frosh and just absolutely blows up and has a Pat Burrell Frosh type year ... .484 avg .948 slugging 23 HR 64 RBI.

Now, why should he have to transfer to a JUCO and play another year, just so he can wait to be drafted - when during that time, he could get severly injured before the season even starts, not be able to rehab back to get to the level he once was, and he loses out on a ton of money?

That's like winning the lottery, then losing the ticket.

NFL, I can understand why kids can't and shouldn't be drafted before a certain time due to the physicality of the game.

MLB, no, don't understand it at all, esp. since high school kids get drafted all day long .. but yet, a kid that is only one year removed from high school and is a frosh or soph in college can't be drafted?

I don't like it. Get Bud Selig on the phone, we have that rule to discuss along with a whole lot of other f***ery he has done.

Esteban

Six, I look at it as they got options to choose from. No matter what the choice you make you gotta live with that choice. Some dudes probably do a year of minor league ball thinking how they wish they would have gone to college instead. But too late they made their decision. I'd be curious to know what the thought process was when the rule was originally developed though.

Soup, my time has been a little crazed. I had family in town and I'm nearing the end of another project that has been going on for far too long.

It's still near the top of my List, just not quite at the top. There's this 6' brunette who's just ahead of your blob feature. lol

UpNorthCane06

Here's a question for everybody....... Who will have a better collegiate career lamar miller, mike james, or the lil diva known as bb?

My choice is Lamar miller aomethig about the kid just says special and close second mike James and bb third maybe i'm a lil bias but o well this is canespace ......

Six

Este - I hear ya on that, I'd like to know the thought process as well when they made that rule.

I cannot remember his name, but, there was a local kid who was drafted decently high coming out of high school ... he didn't like where he was drafted, so he went on to play JUCO ball, after a year of JUCO, he dropped around 10-11 rounds from when he was originally taken.

Oops.

I think the guys that just go ahead and take the loot straight from high school are usually drafted high enough to where that is good money they were offered in signing. They feel they'll be fast movers throughout the farm system, so college to them would be a waste and a possible road to an injury that would prevent them from getting drafted high enough to get substantial money. If they do get injured while in the farm system, they'll at least have the money already and the organization will be doing what they can to get their bonus babies healthy.
