The ACC had 56 players selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. And, you may be surprised to find out that even after a sub-par season your Miami Hurricanes had a total of 9 players selected that now hope to make "The Show" at some point in their professional MLB careers.
Perhaps the most stunning selection in the entire MLB draft was the pick of Canes starting MLB Glenn "I can't tackle but I can really" Cook by the Chicago Cubs in the 46th round.
HUH? Yeah that's what we said!
Who knew that a guy who couldn't even hit a big running back wearing pads could hit a tiny little baseball with a skinny piece of wood?
For Cook's sake let's hope he can bunt better than he can tackle because if not his MLB career will be very short lived in the bigs.
This shocking turn of events came in spite of what we thought was reliable insider information that "Cookie" was heading straight for a spot on a syndicated TV show for the Food Network after a less than stellar Senior season playing college football not baseball.
The site of his flabby mid-section that was captured on film during a tryout for NFL scouts at UM's Pro Day had Canes fans thinking that Cookie had been eating more than his fare share of well, you know, cookies. Shows you just can't trust those insiders can you?
The UM players selected were:
- Ryan "Action" Jackson, SS
- Kyle "Ring My" Bellamy, P
- Jason "I Ain't No Old" Haggerty, C/1B
- Chris "Hit Man" Herrman, IF/OF
- Dave "Heavy D" DiNatale. OF
- Erik "Erik" Erickson, P
- John "Take It To The" Housey, P
- David "Mi Hermano Es Carlos" Guiterrez, P
- Glenn "I Can't Tackle But I Can Really" Cook, MLB
ACC Notes from the 2009 MLB Draft:
- The 56 picks are the second-best all-time for the Atlantic Coast Conference (behind 63 selections in 2007)
- Three ACC players go in first round (North Carolina’s Dustin Ackley to Mariners second overall, Boston College’s Tony Sanchez to Pirates fourth overall, North Carolina’s Alex White to Indians 15th overall); Boston College’s Mike Belfiore goes to Diamondbacks as first-round supplemental pick (45th overall).
- Clemson and Miami lead all ACC schools with nine picks, while Duke sets a school record and North Carolina ties a school record with seven each.
- At least 50 ACC players taken in each of the last four drafts (54 were chosen in 2008).
- The ACC has had at least one first-round selection each of the last 18 years (1992-2009) and has had multiple first-round selections in eight of the last nine drafts.

Ronnie Lott had the tip of his finger cut off, not the whole thing according to legend, but everyone knows how crazy hockey players are ....
"Lidstrom missed the final two games of the Western Conference finals because he was speared in the testicle by the Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Sharp(notes) in Game 3 and had to undergo surgery. But he returned for the opening game of the Stanley Cup final."
One of his grapes was squashed, he got some fixin' done on it, and came back to play. Insane testicular fortitude right there.
I'M HAPPY WE HAVE BASEBALL TO CARRY US.

Well this darius robinson kids film doesn't impress me, he does have great straight line speed, and defense would have to be where he plays, he has no real moves in the open field/hips are not that fluid, ut he'll add more speed to the team/secondary if he comes in, plays kind of physical, hell look for yourself. I like how his clips have him running track 1st though, hmmmm, maybe that's where he belongs, and just remember this after watching his clips, lamar the truth miller is faster.

Calvin
here is the guy from Georgia you want in a Canes uniform.
this kid can throw deep, find the open guy and also outrun most everybody on the field for the first twentyfive yards.
he ends up at Virginia Tech you will get to see plenty of him.
He comes here he will be pushing hard to start when jacory leaves
He remiinds me of Steve Walsh with his delivery.

Solar IMO it would be crazy not to make him the preseason pick for MVP of this team.
That being said I picked Robinson.

Kenny is working out for the UFL
I wish Whipple would hire him as an ast qb coach, 6 years from now he could be a great OC
