Each year at Canespace we recognize bloggers who have made significant contributions to the blog during the year. The nominees are often defined as: "Hard core Hurricane fans that have a computer glued to their hands"
This special breed of "five star" bloggers work hard all year long to achieve greatness. They have been known to blog morning, noon and night even during the dead season of Summer. They write features for the blog, recruit new bloggers, make strategic connections, take pictures, cover events and contribute in many ways to our success.
Last year, the first ever class of CSROH 2008 selections chosen by the fans were:
- Manny Navarro
- The Truth
- SolarCane
- Cavaleer (AKA ChinesePunisher, Captain Optimist)
- CanesGirlNC.
This year the nominees are:
Cat5: King of the early morning bloggers and known to attend any and every Canespace event ever held this blogger has had his picture taken with more cheerleaders, players, fans (and some people we don't even know) than any other Canespacer. Cat5, seen here with his favorite player Arthur Bown, even developed a Canespace decal for cars (seen at TOP RIGHT), has made several suggestions on how to improve the blog and according to his wife wears Canespace to bed. Now that is committment! And, I think it is important to know that Canespace official photographer OcalaCane nominated and endorsed Cat5 for the CSROH.
Six: This long time Canespacer formerly known simply as Six is now referred to as the "Artist known as Six". No blogger is more knowledgeable, more articulate or more savvy than numero seis. This guy can name the starting lineup of the Canes 1983 National Championship team, the 2001 National Championship baseball team and the ACLS Champion 2008 Tampa Bay Rays. He writes comments that could be features, has a incredible sense of humor and he shows up when it counts. Six, who is seen here on the field at the 2008 ACC Championship game in Tampa has multiple nominations for this elite award. Vote for him now and often.
UMike: This freshman blogger is relatively new to the Space but like Sean Spence has made a sudden and significant impact on the blog since his arrival. He has written three articles, developed our current banner at the top of the blog and is a regular on The Space. He has attended events, taken photos aqnd helped support our growth and popularity. This young gun, seen here at The UM Spring scrimmage with his son, should be given some serious consideration.
bg1906: He is legend! His 2009 National Signing Day coverage was beyond compare. His incredible research and rapid fire comments on NSD will be the standard by which all others will be measured. You would have thought that he had a private line to Coaches Shannon and Hurtt or had tapped into the fax machine at The Hecht Center or something. Then he tops that off with his annual GAMER feature on EA Sports NCAA 10. Beat that! This is my nomination and to me a no-brainer.
Canechic: The hard-core female phenom has given Canespace her all. A consistent blogger during football, baseball and basketball seasons, she is a serious sports fanatic that knows her stuff about plays, players and keeps score during the many heated battles on the blog. Her husband Angry (seen here at right with son Nick, daughter Nicole and former UM WR Brett Perriman) is also a Spacer. Canechic and her son Nick went with Canespace to the UM-FSU game at The Doak in 2007. But better yet, her daughter Nicole was accepted to UM this year and will be a Sunsation come Fall. Canechic was nominated by last year's inductee CanesgirlNC.
Calvin: This fire breathing, gator hating, blog busting contributor has been with Canespace since we started in June of 2007. Calvin is not only the King of YouTube, an original Spacer but also holds the record for the logest comment on the blog. As blogger RoachCane77 once said the instant you read the first two lines of a Calvin post you absolutely know who it is from. Calvin's rants and tirades against outsiders and for the Hurricanes are legendary. You step on Superman's cape, don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off the outlaw ranger and you don't mess with Calvin! Calvin was nominated by CSROH08 inductee SolarCane.
Canez1: This hard hitting and sometimes controversial blogger brings his "A game" everyday. He has been known to insult, confront and even embarrass weaker bloggers in their futile attempts to explain themselves against one of his now famous tirades. He is a recruiting guru who at time knows more truth than SupeCooper, 321Cane, bg or The Truth combined. He is also an original Canespacer from back in the day and that carries some weight too.
Bloggers who deserve an "Honorable Mention": Esteban (original Canespacer and a popular fan's choice); Aqua (another original Spacer, frequent participant at events and Titanic regular); SuperCooper (recruiting guru and NSD contributor); too many others to name.
p.s. I didnt know CC was THAT hot...

She is PRETTIER in person! And their daughter who will be at UM this fall and was selected to be a Sunsation is a DOLL!!!

CGNC - I've never had Carolina BBQ, always hear about it though. It's gotta be chicken though, b/c I'm like Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, telling John Travolta that he doesn't eat pig .... I don't eat red meat either - except for Buffalo meat, damn that is some good animal right there .. if I do eat red meat, it's about once every 3 months
Had Texas style BBQ and whatever style is down here .. I just roll over to Jazzy's (place I told Truth to go eat during SuperBowl) and am happy for a long long time afterward
I eat lots of pickled okra, I forgot the brand name, but I get it from Super WalMart and I think it's grown around here .... I'm addicted to it .... and I admit it .... I'm not ashamed

I know my career stats are weak, but I feel like I oughta get a little consideration for dropping what's gotta be the most quoted line on the board.
Posted by: dj moonbat | June 05, 2009 at 03:45 PM
U mean this one:
Whenever you're inclined to doubt, just ask yourself: "Who knows more about what makes 'Canes football tick -- me, or Randy Shannon?" That should make you feel better.

Canez, your in CT right?
While I will not claim to be a BBQ expert I can tell you that here in NYC we have some very well respected places (and before I hear it from the Space' this is from people who know BBQ. Some of the greedy guys from KC and Texas have headed north to try and capture this market)
Posted by: shwarma | June 05, 2009 at 06:15 PM
PB... Now that's what I'm talk'n about... great sense of humor under stress... good resume'
Congrats to all who were nominated... each and every one of you deserve the credit, but to be honest we all benefitted from your expression on the keys... for that, I personnally say for the rest of us... Thank you.

That Taccoa place sounds like some of the old Southern buffets I went to many years ago outside Athens before the efficiency experts got hold or them and the sneeze guards were invented.
They used to bring the food out the tables in big bowls.
Heaping helpings of fried chicken, cole slaw, corn bread, pitchers of sweet tea.
Of course, that was back when I was squiring around peanut farmers' daughters.
The Georgia band would probably play "who let the hillbillies loose" just as long as they could end the song with "And to hell with Georgia Tech"

From www.hurricanesports.com:
CORAL GABLES, FLA. – Dwayne Collins has withdrawn his name from the upcoming NBA Draft and will return to the University of Miami for his senior season in 2009-10.
The 6-8 senior forward had workouts with the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat, but had not hired an agent to retain the option of returning to the Hurricanes.
“I’m really glad I took this opportunity,” said Collins. “I got to talk to some NBA personnel about what I need to do so I can reach my goal of playing professional basketball. It was a really good experience and will help me next year. I appreciate Coach [Frank] Haith and the staff’s support of me in all of this.”
“I think this was a positive experience for Dwayne,” added Miami head coach Frank Haith. “He will be able to use the feedback he received as he continues to develop his game. He is an important player for our team, and I absolutely believe he has the potential to be one of the best big men in the ACC this season.”

Yeah, Este's been strong since SS days. He has to be on there.
Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | June 05, 2009 at 11:38 PM
Este is the man. he needs to be in the HOF. I used to be strong on here but I got a lil thing called a WAR that prevents me from blogging all the time. BG is def a great blogger too. TRUTH why is it that no one has ever seen you at the same time, same place as Jimmy Johnson? hmmmmm? I think the "Canespace Xfile" is what blogger on this site is really a UM player. That is the big mystery. I know for a fact that UM players read this blog, they used to read Omar's blog back in the day.

#2 Cal State Fullerton killing Louisville 12-0.
My third choice of a school to want to play for if I could, always was Fullerton (Miami and UTampa were #1 and #2) ... just a good solid program with great coaching.
Super Regional outcomes today:
#3 LSU 12 vs Rice 9
Ole Miss 4 vs Virginia 3 (12 innings)
Arkansas 7 vs Florida State 2

Is it Soup yet?... now that the voting is in... do you have a break down of how many posts each blogger posted for the year and who were the top twenty... I think you'll find all of the winner's in the top 5%

Good morning SpaceCadets!!!

Wait, so does that mean you're sport-ist now? Rugby players aren't good enough? ha ha
Posted by: Loco | June 06, 2009 at 07:43 AM
Actually I favor female tennis players over male rugby players so yeah I am sport-ist".
U did receive some nominations and consideration. Your previous contributions (several articles), sense of humor and being a UM student with insider reports did weigh in your favor.
What hurt you was just not steady enough blogging. Can't believe you would let school work get in the way of blogging! What were U thinking? LOL
Posted by: 86Cane | June 06, 2009 at 09:48 AM
Ocala...what's up? I thought you would get a kick out of that, knowing like I do how strongly you supported Cat5 for CSROH09.
Cat5...AB#11 called and asked for your phone #. Said he's got something to say to U about the 2009 season. Watch out!

Solar
If you need lyrics relating to football, here's some I heard today. I hadn't heard them in a very long time and for good reason: they suck.
But they're still way better than 'Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goal Post of Life'
Anyway from 1969 here's Mel and Tim
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Off side and holdin, yeah,
You ought a be ashamed of yourself baby
Offside and holdin yeah,
Holdin on to some one else
First down you start cheatin' on me
Second down, I was too blind to see
Third down, you know I love you so
Fourth down, baby I got to let you go,
Cus I caught you with your
Backfield in motion, yeah,
I'm gonna have to penalize you
Backfield in motion, baby,
You know that's against the rules.
Posted by: Old Skool | June 06, 2009 at 01:17 PM
Before anyone asks and I doubt they will.
Here's 'Drop Kick Me Jesus', the world's greatest Christian football waltz,
from Bobby Bare.
Drop kick me, Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me, Jesus through the goal posts of life
Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am
Make me a piece in your master game plan
Free from the earthly temptations below
Iâve got the will, Lord if you've got the toe
(Chorus)
Bring on the brothers who've gone on before
And all of the sisters who've knocked on your door
All the departed dear loved ones of mine
Stick them up front in the offensive line
(Chorus 2x)
Oh, drop kick me, Jesus through the goal posts of life
I hear he's got a follow up coming out soon incorporating the Wildcat formation.
Posted by: Old Skool | June 06, 2009 at 01:24 PM
DZ8 - hmmm. What is this evil known as "websense"?
I will find a way for you to watch Cane clips, just stay alive ... STAY .. ALIVE.
That was my "Last of the Mohicans" Daniel Day Lewis impression.

how bout the All American Rejects and I'm on The Football Team?
Now im gettin chicks left and right
They're lining up for Saturday night
Just to go down on me, oh yeah.
And when I walk down the hall
All of the nerds and geeks fall
Down on their knees and worship me..
(CHORUS x2)
"Hey dad! Guess what!"
"Whats that, son?"
"I'm on the football team!"
"Well jiminy in the buckhole."
Na na na na na, Na na na na na, Na na na na na
I'm on the football team (x4)
