Texas, the GT offense hit its stride in the FSU game. FSU never really had an answer for GT's offense. GT turned the ball over a couple of times in that game. Against UNC, they had 400 yards rushing, and moved at will, just turned the ball over. Against UGA, they were down by 18 at the half, in the second half just exploded on UGA with big plays.

In November, it was a very good, effecient and confident offense. The players really started to believe in the scheme and the coaching staff. 3 weeks in a row they rushed for over 350 yards. That's not a fluke.

canesluvr

Texas, I misspoke, the last four games of the season against FSU, UNC, UM and UGA, GT ran for 288, 326, 472 and 407 yards. Doesn't include any passing yards. Those were just the rushing yards.

They average 6, 6.4, 8.4 & 7.4 yards per rush in those four games as well. As much as I hate that style of offense, it wasn't a fluke.

solarcane

tex others,

GT gets a lot of yards and they stay on the field for what seems like forever.

Like Tex points out they don't score a lot of points, we just need to score early and often in the first half.

Lovett has his guys tackling and being in the right places, we might get to see some interceptions too.

solarcane

este,
in the LSU game didn't GT run a fake punt deep in their own territory and get whacked down too?

They kicked off out of bounds to start the game, fumbled and LSU scored off it, had a trick play stuffed, let Jefferson hit like 9 or 10 passes in a row.

GT put themself in a hole no running team was gonna come back from.

I think more and more we will beat GT, I don't think we will keep their running game contained though.

solarcane

how did ACC teams stack up defending other ACC schools running game?

Name Att Yards Avg.
Boston College 298 830 2.8
Wake Forest 254 784 3.1
Virginia Tech 312 996 3.2
Virginia 327 1097 3.4
Florida State 265 995 3.8
Georgia Tech 270 1018 3.8
Duke 333 1265 3.8
North Carolina 297 1140 3.8
Clemson 285 1121 3.9
North Carolina State 256 1027 4.0
Maryland 317 1345 4.2
Miami (Florida) 344 1497 4.4

solarcane

If you look at that list you will notice other ACC teams executed more running plays against Miami than they did against other schools.

Having every team in the conference confident they can run on you, and then they come in and succeed, might give you a good reason to retire to Kansas

We've always been one of the best teams in the country at stopping the option, because we've had so much speed on defense. In fact, our 2001 pounding of Nebraska put an end to their option forever. Once we get back to where we have LBs that run like safeties and DEs that move like LBs, we'll make GT's option look like a high school team.

I am trying to make arrangements to the UNC game.

In the Miami heat we cant be out there on D for long drives

No more of those good field position 3 and outs after the D makes a great stand

I dont see that happening with Whipple

AB this can be your"step up" game

We need you filling the gap and busting snot out of them..Let JD know its going to be a long hot hard hitting day in our house this year..No ACC POY for JD

That's what I'm talkin' about!

86Cane

Just curious:

Can they even run a ROH poll or award over at the SS of the MH?

I'm just sayin'...

canesluvr

Solar, I think you and Tex are factoring in the beginning of the season when you analyze GT. The last four games of the regular season they had at least one rushing score of 50 yards or more. In the UGA game, they had two. Against UM, they broke off long run after long run. Starting with the FSU game, the light bulb went off for that offense. And even if you look at the UNC game, three turnovers and two missed field goals, you don't win any game like that, no matter how well you run the ball. The difference between the UNC game and the UM games is basically turnovers. Which is why RS's focus that week was generating turnovers and tackling the ball.

solarcane

canesluver great points.

I was just looking at the UM GT game on youtube, we sucked at tackling big time

solarcane

Canez1,
my daughter said Raleigh is about a half hour from Chapel Hill and its a straight shot.

Nice article. Georgia Tech will be a great opportunity for Arthur Brown to make a name for himself.

We all hear that he is a beast, a monster against the run. Well, there won't be too much dropping back into coverage against GaTech. Brown should be smashing shoulder pads with the fullback all game long.

Let the DE's CRUSH the QB and let the Sleepy, C-Mac and Cookie take the pitch.

What was wrong with Nesbitt? He was the only player with less than 10 ypc.

That may have been the ugliest defense I've ever seen. There was no discipline to assignments, thus no trust. The DE bites on the fake and dives after the FB, a huge no-no.

busy,

If AB gets his shots in the GT game I think he is gonna take out a whole lot of pent up anger on somebody.
He could have that Rohan mentality out there and just start smashing people.

I know I like the Gin and sometime I have a hard time understanding what is posted. I know that Solar predicted an easy win against f.s.? but not sure what the official prediction against g-tech is? I do not intend on calling out one of my favorite bloggers, but what is the prediction on this solar??

p.s. the finals game tonight is unwatchable...

wad shakin g&t?

Yes I think we beat FSU down this year, something about Whipple and Jacory makes me feel like FSU isn't gonna be ready for a Miami O that attacks every play.
I think we beat FSU by 10 or more

GT I think runs all over the place but doesn't score a lot, I think we get an early lead we are in great shape to win.

We trail in the 3ed qtr I think its gonna be tough.

maybe we get lucky and AB will break Dwyer's leg so his baby bro can win the Heisman.

Good article in June,8, 2009, Sports Illustrated on postfootball bodies. this should be taken seriously as I have seen this happen many times - poor health, joint replacement, etc. My son who is [ mid 30's] half the age as I, works out a lot and granted is a lot stronger - he and I worked out together in the gym for the first time and there were routines I could do that he could not do using the same weights [ not bragging ] but a good example of stregnth vs. conditioning. granted you have to take both into consideration with athletic programs but what do you do for the athletes after they have given to you

solarcane

KSF68,
welcome

Every time I would see stories on Jim Otto I would grimace. The man gave football everything he had before the ridiculous salaries. He looked like a robot trying to sit on a bench and tie his shoe

I like the ways you guy are talkin football all ready- - it,s 365 days a year here in NW FL where there is a heathen behind every tree, reptiles floatin in the water, a few pachyderms, and some large felines on the loose. GO CANES. yamma yamma

KSF68

Solar, I remember Jim Otto from the black and white tv days and that was a long time before all this " conditioning" thing got started. Jim Otto played back in the days when ships were wood and men were iron. thanx for the rec.

solarcane

KSF,
youare at the right place to talk Canes football, it's slow now but there are a lot of fantastic folks on this blog.

If you look in the left border you will see the Feedjit map with Canespacers all round the world that have been on here in the past few hours

Now that's how you get into the CSROH10!

86Cane

KSF...my wife and I met the Yamma Yamma man (RIP) at the NCST game in 2005. He came up and shook our hand and said thanks for coming.

We told him no, thank you for all you do for the Canes. He was a class act...

KSF68

Hey 86, I,m not an ego man but the U was the best experiencnce of my life coming from a small [ 64 grads ] high school in NW FL and getting off the bus in Miami with a suitcase in both hands and saying "Gollee". The first year I shared an on campus apt with a U football player who had to be bumped out of the football dorms due to all taken up. That's how I got to know so many of the players as my roonmate would take me over to the football dorm and play cards and do other things that were baned on campus - that's when you could get away with it. My roomate and I are still good friends today. I know a lot of bloggers on here don,t have the same experience , but we are all CANES...Howerver if some of you do ,I think it would be great to share your experiences about the U and the Orange Bowl games with all. Rember the females having to use the mens restroom at the OB at half time with there hands as blindres saying " I wont look, I wont Look" we who were standing in line were gentlemen. GO CANES. yamma yamma Jim Fliming [RIP]

KSF68

Hey 86, still trying to get my tee shirt from being first a few mos ago {only my second blog ever] but I'm in no hurry. Keep the good things happinging .

86Cane

KSF...your shirt is going out on Monday.

If you don't see it by Thursday email me again or give me a shout out on here.

KSF68

86, Maybe I should capalitise Yamma, Yamma, thanx to your blog and let it stand forever with your permission. Lets have a bio on a great CANE coach - Walt Keresfski [sp] what a coach and a motivator - Look out GET THE GATOR- Nuff said.

KSF68

86 , Slow down I'll look for the tee shirt on Xmas Morn. Hang on to it and maybe we,ll connect in SF. You don,t have to get me the prise now do you. Thars injuns between you and me and the homestead. Yamma Yamma.

KSF68

For of all you out there you should respect a great U player and coach Walt K. 86 can some body do a bio on this great player and coach for the U. He was loved by all the players for his insight and tempermenrt and when head foot ball coach resigned and Walt K took over at the end of the seaseon he and the U beat the Gator. . Walt all said ":" get the GATOR" and he got it.

Canes.Fan.In.California

I never posted picks for the Legends of the Fall. If I can still get in on it...

Offense (and special teams): Travis Benjamin

Defense: Vaughn Telemaque

And for what it's worth, I think everyone here can agree that we need to tackle a whole lot better this year against GT. That's #1 in my opinion. I just remember watching last year's game and feeling like nobody could tackle and everyone was too confused to make plays. It seemed like they were standing around as GT ran past them, way to passive. However they choose to defend them, they need to tackle and be aggressive. Hopefully that goes for eveyone. DTs pushing the line fromcenter, DE smacking the QB, LBs in pursuit, etc... Something, because last year, nobody was stopping anybody!
