Was there some kind of soccer game today that people were excited about?

canechic

USA played not to lose, instead of to win, huge choke but they got farther then anyone thought!

Sad about Billy Mays but I think same thing happened to him that happened to Natasha Richardson. That death and MJ's is to be continued...

Calvin

Canesniper, Hurriphin and solar, appreciate it, and the one thing i left out, cause i posted a good amount and felt like it was enuff, but after all the penalties and during the penalties, jacory said it was his fault for not being loud enough and not getting in rhythm with the o-line. Whether it was his fault or not, he took responsibility, just like someone mentioned he did after the cal game. Which leads me to thinkin about trump, with that tackle he made, maybe he'd be a better d-lineman.

The sophmore jinx only happens when a player doesn't work hard after his 1st year and thinks he's got it all down pat. These guys on this team are working hard because if the people on here think they're upset/dissappointed at us being 7&6, talk to the players on this team, they feel even worse because they all felt like they could do better. ojomo's intensity helps the team. moncur being back, will help the team, the older guys in the lineup now are contributors.

roach, ok, man i got you. The o-line does need to be in better shape though, but i think the thing with franklin and figs is simple, stoutland needs to be able to identify what weight best fits the o-lineman under him and go from their, like figs, he's having a stamina issue, he needs to drop down. O-line is tricky, it's not all about teaching technique it's weight variables that make a big difference.

Anyway, if the o-line is out their running 110's with the rest of the crew, which i'm sure they are, because this team is becoming more and more unified everyday, but at the same time, challenging each other daily. You alot of guys on this team now who care more about winning than what position they have with the team. kyle walked around and was more in luv with the fact that he was named the starting qb at UM more than he cared about doing the things it took to win. He was always criticizing the team like he wasn't on it, which always pissed me off.

And basically pretty much saying kirby was garbage, but kirby didn't leave here without significant wins, of coure the Fsu game is at the top, the neveda game, the boston college game, if ryan hill doesn't drop that touchdown we win the maryland game. kirby has us in position to win more games than kyle did. kyle's game was just like jj stokes game was in the pro's, people kept waiting for them to break out and they never really did.

In fact did kyle ever win a bowl game during his time here.

Aqua

I don't think Kyle went 1-15 in his last game..

Transformers kicking butt at the box office over $200 million in 5 days

Meanwhile the critics are doing their best to kick Transformers butt. The review from Roger Ebert below is classic.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments. One of these involves a dog-like robot humping the leg of the heroine. Such are the meager joys. If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination.

The plot is incomprehensible. The dialog of the Autobots®, Decepticons® and Otherbots® is meaningless word flap. Their accents are Brooklyese, British and hip-hop, as befits a race from the distant stars. Their appearance looks like junkyard throw-up. They are dumb as a rock. They share the film with human characters who are much more interesting, and that is very faint praise indeed.

The movie has been signed by Michael Bay. This is the same man who directed "The Rock" in 1996. Now he has made "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." Faust made a better deal. This isn't a film so much as a toy tie-in. Children holding a Transformer toy in their hand can invest it with wonder and magic, imagining it doing brave deeds and remaining always their friend. I knew a little boy once who lost his blue toy truck at the movies, and cried as if his heart would break. Such a child might regard "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" with fear and dismay.

The human actors are in a witless sitcom part of the time, and lot of the rest of their time is spent running in slo-mo away from explosions, although--hello!--you can't outrun an explosion. They also make speeches like this one by John Turturro: "Oh, no! The machine is buried in the pyramid! If they turn it on, it will destroy the sun! Not on my watch!" The humans, including lots of U.S. troops, shoot at the Transformers a lot, although never in the history of science fiction has an alien been harmed by gunfire.

old skool my kids said it stunk and wanted their money back!

MJ's autopsy is out yet, but the rumors are flying. The best: chimp flu.

Daytoncane

kyle and kirby both were pretty tough, they just weren't very good qb's. kirby liked to run around a lot and try to make plays and kyle was basically another version of drew bledsoe, a sitting duck in the pocket.

both jacory and taylor cook are tall enough to see over the defense and mobile enough to escape the rush.

what calvin is getting at is that jacory is a natural leader and his teammates want to follow him. he won 30 straight games in high school so he knows about pressure. he also played pretty well against a good cal defense in the bowl game.

and another thing, you can run all the 110s you want to but if you're not a very good football player, it won't matter once you get on the field.

solarcane

Can't help but revel in the prospect of having Moncur, McCarthy, & Phillips all healthy around the final 3 or 4 games of this season.

Put them all together, and its like having ONE really big-time Def. player that we didn't have for the second half of 08'.

It'll be the difference between a couple of wins & losses, I'm sure.

Six

Transformers 2 was a good summer movie .. lots of explosions, hot chicks, cool robots with great effects, badass military equipment, etc.

Like I said earlier, you can tell it's a Michael Bay flick and he leaves his trademark shots and sequences in it

It's not supposed to be on the same page as Ben Hur, Reds or Gandhi

It is what it is and it's going to rake in insane money

I've seen a lot worse movies .. such as, the entire XMen line and the Wolverine movie this past year ...

The only real movie that lived up to its hype so far has been Star Trek

Six

Hell, Ebert gave Napolean Dynamite 1.5 stars .... it's not the most epic comedy of all time, but it's pretty damn funny and more worthy of 1.5 stars

I can point out a lot of things wrong with Transformers 2 in the accuracy department or continuity department - then again, unless it's something glaring like when they put up "Pentagon, Washington D.C." on the big screen .. it's kind of hard to ignore

Six

What I meant to say was, there are a fair share of inaccuracies in the movie .. but .. unless it's something as glaring as putting up "Pentagon, Washington D.C." - then you basically look past them

Canez1

I can't believe Billy is dead!!! I love that guy. I was just getting into Pitchmen.

Anthony Sullivan killed Billy Mays. I'll bet ya.

They are dropping like flies out there.

BTW Transformers was awesome. Ebert is a fat bytch!!

Nonstop action, robots and hot chics everywhere. How could you go wrong??

Megan Fox is definitely in my top five hotties. Girl has "IT".

Damn is all I can say.

You gotta love the transformers to absolutely love these movies.

I can't wait to see GI JOE either. Another childhood favorite.

Solar LMAO!!!! I actually like the solo acts from the beatles a thousand times better then the band music.

On their own they are great. Together in the 60's.... not so much.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

The Truth

Ok Canez

Ms. Truth and I and co ended up at LIV last night. Saw one bachlorette group doing the over the top thingy. Then we saw another cluster where the chick just had a vail and the rest were dressed regular.

The kicker is...

...are you ready???

It was a Transformers Party LOL

Anyway...I thought it was funny to see the two groups. I had a good chuckle.

Posted by: Six | June 28, 2009 at 05:00 PM

One word: NO

The Truth

And anyone reading that hasn't been to LIV - it was my 1st time - go...once. LOL

Lots of eye candy, young ladies, cougars, garden tools - you name it. But DAMN it is rediculously expensive.

Before we got out bottles, which were about the cost of an average Honda car payment I spend $150 on 6....SIX drinks.

Six drinks - $150

Six

I'm still pissed.

I'm not cheap. I'll spend money. But spending nearly $30 for a drink is just plain stupid. I don't care rich you are, if you willingly spend $30 for a drink you're either a movie star or really really stuffy - and dumb.

Plenty of great spots in Miami where you don't have to take a loan out to go out and have fun and see hot people.

There were lots of famous faces..maybe that had something to do with it, but I probably won't be going back.

Too many people that were just full of crap.

bg1906

Looks like Bunche and Kent are heading to Prep School. NCAA Clearinghouse.

The Truth

I think the drinks were $22 plus a tip...

I got a tip for them...

The Truth

Actually I'm thinking about quitting what I do now to go be a bartender there. Those people must be loaded, either that or they only let them work one night a week each...even then they HAVE to bring in well over $500-$600.

Aqua

Quit hatin Truth

The Truth

LOL Aqua...

So, just exactly how many nuclear bombs would it take to blow up the moon?

Just curious...

...and wouldn't we be bombarded with moon debri potentially killing us all anyway?

The Truth

Drat those bombs...now were all going to die faster!!!!

I knew it!

What gets me is how many people toil away, day after day after day making barely enough to feed their kids and make a decent living...

Yet, there are Bozos out there being handed millions to make crap like this.

Yes, Aqua, I'm hating again.

Top 25 teams: No. 24 Kansas

Click to enlarge No. 23 MIAMI HURRICANES

2008 record: 7-6

Returning starters offense/defense: 8/8

Strength: A talented and experience offensive line give the 'Canes hope for an explosive offense. With a little more help from his wide receivers, sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris could lead a dangerous air assault.

Weakness: UM might have eight returning starters on defense, but in its six loses last season, defensive lapses were often to blame. The 'Canes have a good mix of talent and experience. The problem is too few players who have both.

Biggest star: Miami hasn't had its usual caliber of college football superstar lately. So the choice here is steady junior tailback Graig Cooper, who at 6-feet tall and 200 pounds is capable of being the offensive workhorse.

Rising star: Harris is the man, now that Robert Marve has transferred to Purdue. Harris beat out Marve for the job, anyway, completing 60.8 percent of his passes for 1,195 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

Toughest game: The 'Canes play host to Oklahoma on Oct. 3. It's possible the Sooners won't be all that thrilled to return to Dolphin Stadium, site of last January's BCS Title game loss to Florida. Oklahoma poses a much more difficult challenge to Miami than any of UM's ACC opponents."

Nate Bosher is a good kicker?

Dale Baker in Richmond, Texas writes: Are you serious that a KICKER is apart of the top 30 players in the ACC? This is the funniest thing ever!!! I can't stop laughing, seriously. I mean I'm not saying Nate Bosher isn't a good kicker but on a football team the kicker is not a very high priority. Who would you rather have on your team Jacory Harris or Nate Bosher? Your nutty Dinich, in a good way, of course.

HD: Of course, of course. First of all, his name is Matt. And had it been a year ago I probably would have put Sam Swank or Graham Gano on there. If Bosher wins the Lou Groza Award this year, he's one of the best players in the ACC. Why does everyone always pick on the kickers?

another Nate but he likes Bosher
and Heather thinks we beat GT
peace

Nate in Port St. Lucie, Fla., writes: Heather, will the Georgia Tech @ Miami game this year be a shootout? I dont buy the whole "people have seen it now" spiel about the GT offense. If I were a coach that had to face GT this year, I'd spend at least 15 minutes a day on a triple-option-drill. How much does it help us that Colin McCarthy will be back and holding down the Middle LB spot that was sorely in need last year? If Miami answers well enough to GT's scores, will we even need to stop the option? Who's your pick in that game? Give me something. I'm dyin' here, Heather. I've never anticipated a season more than this one in my life.

HD: Haha, you and me both, my friend. I don't buy it either, and do think that's going to be a great offensive matchup on Sept. 17 at Miami. Miami's young receivers and Jacory Harris against one of the deepest secondaries in the ACC, plus, the Hurricanes are going to be hungry to redeem themselves from last year's poor defensive showing in Atlanta (I was there for that). Yes, McCarthy's return will be huge, but Randy Shannon is still looking for more depth at that position and it remains one of his biggest concerns heading into summer camp. It's not official yet, but I'll make my early pick for that game Miami.

BetFirms take on the 09 Canes

2009 Miami NCAA Football Predictions

Hurricane fans are wondering who made this schedule? Miami opens against four Top 25 teams in Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma. Head coach Mike Shannon says it’s a chance fo rhis players to show they’re a Top 10 team. I guess we’ll see. With a strong core of young players, Miami is headed in the right direction. The Hurricanes may not begin to show it in the win column until the second month of the season, though. NCAA football odds show the Hurricanes listed at +6000 to win the 2010 BCS National Title.

Offense: Patrick Nix is history after serving as Miami’s fourth coordinator in four years last season. New offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, who is best known for molding Ben Roethlisberger as quarterbacks coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, becomes the fifth coordinator in five years. His offense impressed players and coaches in the spring. He brings more sets to the table and unpredictable play-calling. The QB job falls squarely on sophomore Jacory Harris after the transfer of Robert Marve. He was respectable last season with 118 completions for 1,195 yards and 12 touchdowns, to just 7 interceptions. He clearly has a lot to learn, but his confidence and presence on the field will help him through it.

Miami has built depth at tailback and wide receiver. Junior running back Craig Cooper is ready for a breakout year. LaRon Byrd has a personality about him, and he wears No. 47, so this guys’ physical style and big-play ability is starting to resemble Michael Irvin. Fellow sophomore Aldarius Johnson has slimmed down and is now quicker and stronger. Kendal Thompkins and Tommy Streeter each had solid springs after redshirting last season. They’ll push Travis Benjamin and Thearon Collier. Javarris James, who has been injury prone the last two seasons, ran for just 868 yards in his sophomore and junior campaigns after rushing for 802 yards as a freshman. He’ll need to stay healthy, or Mike James and Lee Chambers will pass him up. The line has five solid starters, led by left tackle Jason Fox, but the Hurricanes still need to improve their depth here.

Defense: New coordinator John Lovett’s biggest concern is forcing more turnovers this season. The Miami Hurricanes recorded just four interceptions last year, two by the secondary. Because of this lack of productions, secondary recruits like Prince Kent, Ray Ray Armstrong, Brandon McGee and Jamal Reid could play right away. The secondary is helped by a deep line up front, which includes sixth-year senior end Eric Moncur. He was coming around last season before re-injuring his hernia.

Moncur and safety Randy Phillips, who was also granted a sixth year of eligibility, each need to provide leadership and playmaking to this young group. The linebacking corps includes sophomore Sean Spence, named the ACC’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Arthur Brown, who was all-everything in high school. Junior Colin McCarthy need to stay healthy for this group to flourish.

Rivals isn't overly impressed just yet

Hurricane warning?

From Van in Huntsville, Ala.: Is this the season Miami turns the corner and wins the ACC? If not, what impact will this have on coach Randy Shannon's job security?

Miami, which finished 7-6 last season, should be better. Sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris figures to improve, and there is plenty of talent at running back and receiver. But issues with the offensive line and on defense raise doubts about whether the Hurricanes are legit contenders in the ACC Coastal Division. My pick is Virginia Tech, followed by Georgia Tech. I'd pick the Hurricanes third.

A third-place finish in the Coastal still could translate to a strong season, but the Hurricanes could be better without it showing up in the standings. Their first four games are at Florida State, vs. Georgia Tech, at Virginia Tech and vs. Oklahoma, so a 0-4 start isn't out of the question.

Maybe Miami will surprise, win some of those early games and challenge for the ACC title. Nothing is impossible, especially with a roster full of good athletes. If the Hurricanes struggle, though, Shannon will be under a lot of pressure in 2010.

All About Sports ranks the ACC Linebacking Corps

1) North Carolina Tar Heels

The Heels had the #1 defensive line in the ACC, now they have the #1 linebackers in the ACC. Obviously North Carolina now can claim the best front 7 in the ACC going into the 2009 season. Junior Quan Sturdivant led the nation in solo tackles with 87 and will play the middle. 6-3 230 lbs junior Bruce Carter will man the strong side. The Heels have plenty of young talent to provide depth. Sophomore Zach Brown is the likely starter at the weakside linebacker position. Sophomore Herman Davidson and 4 star freshman Kevin Reddick will compete for playing time.

4) Miami Hurricanes

After missing most of last season talented Colin McCarthy injury looks to return as leader of an athletic but somewhat inconsistent linebacking crew. Sean Spence the ACC's defense rookie of the year is only 6-0, 211 but is a hard hitter. Senior Darryl Sharpton will likely handle the middle. Arthur Brown arguably the nation's top linebacker recruit in 2008, looks to begin fulfilling the high expectations he came in with.

by making such a tough schedule, randy is trying to instill that old canes mentality into the team. the mentality that says "we'll play anybody, anytime, any place. we're not scared of anyone or anything". from what i hear about dade county, the guys on the team shouldn't be scared of much else.

At 2/2 we could still capture ACC but betting VT and GT is a must... meaning losing to FSU the first time and OKla... then play them again in the title game and kick the shitout of them the second time for the Championship!

The Truth

Randy doesn't make the schedule

And the ACC determines who plays when in the conference

And ESPN has some pull with that - like wanting the FSU/Miami game on Labor Day again.
