Enjoyed the article on GT.

Field position- The offense has to move the ball. If you get the ball at the 18, you cannot go three and out and give the other offense a short field like the last few years. If you get it at the 30, you have to cross mid field. you don't have to score every possession but you must move the ball and make the opposing offense go 70 or 80.

I will say it again, a good defense's best friend is a consistent offense.

I'm not worried about Chandler at all..he is all Cane. Same thing with Jacory and Oregan..these kids should take their visits..its a once in a life time thing. In the end, he will be a Cane. If you ever saw his videos on Miami Herald, and the Bryce Brown situation, you would know he is commited.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Calvin, watching that GT-UVA game was sickening. We made GT look a whole helluva lot better than they actually are. Between Nix, the freshmen, the upperclassmen on defense, and the horrible game Young called, easily the worst he called last year, we made GT look like 1980s OU or NEB.

UVA's offense showed just how clueless Nix was. They had excellent variety- quick passes, draws, play action, outside and over the middle, and their WRs were slow.

And each team had two or more turnovers at critical times so it was basically a draw in that department.

We should handle GT, seriously. If the DL and Whip live up to their billing, we should handle them 30-17 or so, the way UGA should've handled them before they thought the game was over at half-time.

Cav...I agree. We have the speed to keep the option in check, and I think our secondary can be left to hold their own. Bring a fast satefy like VT or Ray Ray up to the line. I think Romeo Davis played a little to much in that game where the much much faster Atkins should of been in..IMO. With a healthy C-Mac, Superman Spence, Sharpton and speedsters like Holton, Cookie, Brown..we should be able to keep them in check. I'm hoping at least.

Alex D

I believe Todd Chandler is a lock. If Tennessee coaching staff wants to spend valuable resources to help him develop his game so he can play better this fall and also be better prepared to be a Cane when he sign; then, I applaud him for taking advantage of the opportunity. He should also consider taking a trip to USC and utilizing those possible coaching resources there too. It may be a risk, but if his is truly committed to the Canes. Then it can only help us and not hurt us. Just my take.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

A reminder to everyone of what the U on that helmet is supposed to look like. If you want the capsule version just fast-forward to the 5:36 mark and watch the ultimate coin-toss staredown. haha Y'all know who it is.

Calvin is right; LSU did put on a clinic on how to stop GT’s triple option. Take a (big lead) on offense, line up a yard off the ball to prevent those (chop blocks), (penetrate) into the backfield to (cause disruption), (tackle well) and tackle well when available (in space), most of all (cause turnovers). This is a rhythm offense and if their (not in rhythm) then they (can’t execute). Last, if GT is passing or (throwing the ball) then you know you’re dominating the game.

( ) – Things the U failed to do last year in order to be GT.

Alex D

86 you still do have my Legends of the Fall on the list. You have the other Alex and not the real Alex. Lol.

Offense: Jacory Harris
Defense: Sean Spence

Assistant Coach of the Year: Aubrey Hill and those game breaking WR's - barring injuries

The Truth

So when Hill gets that "Assistant Coach of the Year" will it be because of all those "gamebreaking WR's" or cuz he corched em up?

Love this debate...absofickenlutely LOVE it.

UMike

Truth..why you got to go start something! lol

The Truth

Don't doubt Orgeron's ability to sway a kid. He's the best DL corch at any level and bundle of fun to be around and play for - not litterally, but you know what I mean.

He's a mess...but the guy is great.

And Tennessee is really doing some serious damage nationally recruiting. They're the real deal right now.

UMike

Those wr's need little coaching..imo. I mean..NONE of them are "projects". But if they don't play up to their potential..its the coach's fault lol

The Truth

Well UMike, isn't funny that someone thinks that the coach of the most talented group is going to be the "best" coach?

Not knocking it...don't get me wrong. But Gary Stevens knew what he was talking about with the whole "chicken salad/chicken sh*t" thingy.

I'm just sayin'...

There aren't too many Corch O's of the world.

UMike

If the o-line performs well..them you know it's coaching. Theres nothing but Youth and "Projects" there.

GT... Sporting News Magazine Ranks Tech's Running Back Unit Best in College Football
Tech returns 2008 ACC Player of the Year and SN preseason first-team All-American Jonathan Dwyer

June 17, 2009

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech's running back unit is singled out as the best in college football in the new issue of Sporting News Magazine.

SN insider Matt Hayes picks his top five units at every position in the latest issue, which hits newsstands later this week. The Jackets, who return SN preseason first-team All-American Jonathan Dwyer, beat out Oklahoma State, LSU, Oregon and Virginia Tech for the top spot.

Tech ran for 273.2 yards a game in Paul Johnson's first season as coach, led by Dwyer, who emerged as one the nation's best backs as a sophomore. Dwyer, the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, led the ACC and ranked 17th nationally in rushing (107.3 ypg) and finished with 1,395 rushing yards on the season. He rushed for 100 yards in a game nine times, tying the school record and scored 12 touchdowns.

The Jackets also return...
junior Lucas Cox,
sophomores Roddy Jones,
Embry Peeples
and Marcus Wright.
In addition, Louisville transfer Anthony Allen, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in two seasons with the Cardinals, will be eligible this fall.

I believe the record stands at 10/4 GT

BTW WR Quinton Dunbar to Miami fans about his decomitment:

Dunbar, a 6-foot-2, 161-pound wideout, currently has 10 offers including one from Miami. He was committed to Miami for a month, but de-committed in early April. He has taken an unofficial visit to Georgia and will visit Florida this week.

"I want to let people know that I didn't mean no harm," Dunbar said. "I really love the 'U'. That's where my heart is at. But I wanted to give other schools a shot and look at different options. I didn't want to be another Bryce Brown and say I am committed until signing day and then switch, I'm not that type of person."

canechic

Oh lord can we please BEAT FRIGGIN GT THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!

I asked about you the other day. Where you been man. Missed you around here!

2008 GT will always be the handwarmer game to me

"Georgia Tech are you kidding me? That's like losing to the Sisters of the Blind"

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Yeah, that Canesport list needs some standards or parameters, esp. if they have Fox and Franklin that high.

Most important to this season?? Jacory, Fox, Franklin, Bailey, Forston, Sharpton, C-Mac, Epps, Coop, JJ

Most talented overall?? Mmm, I'd have to agree with Mr. Truth on that one...Robinson, Spence, Byrd, Bailey, Forston, Vernon, Jacory, Epps, maybe another WR, then probably Miller, who I think will be awfully close to McGahee by his soph. or junior season, once he's been Swasied.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

And add RR to that list.

CGNC, I'll never forget that quote, so true. Although GT's improved since Sapp's days.

CanesgirlNC

Hope all the Canespace Dads had a good day

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Umike, LSU's defense is a better template for us than UVA because they run a 4-3. Their DEs and DBs absolutely owned the LOS and like Truth said, forced the pitched immediately, then the DBs cleaned up.

Is it me or does it look exactly like the way Miami used to demolish OU and NEB??? Anyone??

Our DBs should be significantly improved over last year with VT and RR hopefully back there. But Randy P can hit, that much is for sure. McGee, Harris and stronger DVD, Shields and Ryan Hill should be able to tackle. I don't remember if Chavez can hit or not.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Truth, good points about Paul Johnson and why they won last year and why he did so well last year as a whole. I honestly think they had more talent than we did, and have had more talent since 2005, esp. if you count the dysfunctional QBs and offense brain-trust.

As far as the corches are concerned, I think Hill's efforts and skills can't be discounted. He brought some totally green frosh from being liabilities to the teams strength by the sixth or so game, all with a OC who was in way over his head and two frosh QBs.

At the same time, he easily had the most talented unit on the team.

As Umike said, this year's OL play will be all coaching, no doubt about it.

J

Appreciate it bg - thankfully busy with work.

Once the kids report I'll be back with a vengeance.

One thing many folks is missing about GT last year was the fact they did not turn the ball over very much. if I am not mistaken i believe they had the lest amount of turnovers last year in DIV 1 football.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

J, that's a great reason to be away, don't sleep. lol

BG, nice to hear from Dunbar. I think most of the questions these kids have will be answered when we start whoopin' azz. Also good to hear about Spencer.

Truth, I picked up an iPhone last week when my razor died and I must take my hat off to Steve Jobs and his team at Apple. They've made the best gadget since Alexander Graham Bell and whoever made the Swiss Army knife.

Have you downloaded all the upgrades or did you just buy a 3Gs?? I think I'll wait until the 4G comes out before I buy a new one. This one does everything I need, with the upgrades.

Cav,

My wife has the Google G1 and it is also amazing.

SebastianDaIbis

We need at the very least our D-line to hold the line of scrimmage and I don`t give a rats bloated sac who has the ball just snot-knock someone
Tackles-hold your lanes. If it goes outside take every play and crunch the QB backwards. Make the air leave his body
And gang tackle Dwyer until the heat cramps him up and he needs help off the field. Hit him with every pound you have.
Man up D, this game is on you make it a blood bath and we win easily

ADVICE: Buy tickets at the door, not in advance. They were selling them on the cheap EVERYWHERE and even GIVING them away (literraly) at the gate. Shoot I sold 2 for $20 gave one away myself.

LMAO solar, I work for Verizon and I feel like that some times dealing with our technical support..

Dear God, we have a saying that they use and we mock. It is "Do the needful."

86Cane

Solar...I have a confession to make.

It wasn't your Internet that was out.

It was the old "reverse Ron Mex super secret satellite attack" we launched against your Internet connection/modem.

Now that 'ol Ronny is out we have much greater access to resources than when he had to "go away" for a while.

Sorry about the inconvenience, we was just havin' some fun.

Blog on... ;-)
