Former University of Miami guard Jack McClinton (Baltimore, Md.) was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 51st pick in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft, held in Madison Square Garden in New York City on Thursday evening.
McClinton becomes the 17th Hurricane overall and the fourth since 2002 to be selected in the NBA Draft. Guillermo Diaz was the last Hurricane taken in the draft, picked 52nd overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2006.
The Spurs, four-time NBA Champions in a nine-year span from 1999 to 2007, also selected Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair with the 37th pick of the 2009 NBA draft.
McClinton joins fellow ACC alumni Tim Duncan (Wake Forest) and Roger Mason (Virginia) on the San Antonio Roster
"I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to play for a great organization like San Antonio", said McClinton. "I've worked for this my whole life and appreciate all the support from my family, coaches and former teammates. I am very excited for this next chapter and look forward to playing for Coach Popovich and the Spurs."
Miami's first two-time All-ACC First Team selection, McClinton led the Hurricanes in scoring for three-straight seasons - including 19.3 points per game as a senior in 2008-09. He wrapped up his career as the ACC's most proficient three-point shooter, converting a league-best 44.0 percent over his career, while averaging 3.01 treys per game - the fifth-highest average in conference history.
McClinton, winner of the three-point contest at the 21st Annual College Slam Dunk and Three Point Championships in April, scored a career-high 38 points in the 2008 NCAA Tournament first round win over St. Mary's (Calif.) and posted three-straight 30-point games as a senior versus Wake Forest (32), Duke (34) and North Carolina (35), becoming the first Hurricane to finish with 30-plus points in three-straight games in 20 years.

I like the Heat but they were not in existance when I left Hialeah
Our local star is now playing for the Orlando Magic. Vince Carter (Daytona Beach Mainland) traded by N.J. Nets. He is the scorer that could put the Magic back in the finals.
Posted by: fran | June 26, 2009 at 09:08 AM
You think fran? I am not so sure about Vince Carter but you know I am not a huge Magic fan! I like the Heat much better and that hot Beasley guy running around the court all sweaty....sure helps the cause.
I love Jack but I am not a spurs fan!

"writing your own music, there's only one word...ZEPELLIN."
Capt O with all due respect
I think if you look at the sheer size of the Lennon/ McCartney songbook, then consider the fact their songs are the most recorded of all time, along with the incredible list of number one singles you would see Led Zeppelin can't even be mentioned in the same breath with the Beatles for song writing.
Zep, Stones best rock and roll bands ever well yea, best song writers, not close to Lennon/ McCartney.
Zep never had a number one song in the United States, Whole Lotta love reached number 4
Beatles had 21 #1 in US 17 in Britan.
Stairway to Heaven is considererd to be the Most requested song of all time by Zep fans.
Skynyrd fans say it's Freebird
another thing..
Lennon and McCartney had a better coach. lol

Solar agreed, Nick agree's too! Lennon is his hero, I know my son should have been born in a different era!

Solar speakin of drummers.
I was watching Rush in concert yesterday on TV. Their drummer was goin nuts on a solo. Dude was awesome.
I couldn't turn the channel!!
The concert channel on comcast does a great job in HD.
The lead singer is one ugly dude!!! And now he's old as hell!
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Posted by: Canez1 | June 26, 2009 at 09:48 AM
Canez1 yea
take a real quick peek at their record sales and consider maybe the rest of the world is on to something
The entire music industry doesn't know shyt when it come to music... the Beatles suck.. yea that makes sense
If you listen to any interview of any guys you dig that can actually play or sing and they ask who are some of their influences,I'm pretty sure your gonna hear the words Lennon McCartney in there along with everyone else.
Some stuff is timeless the Beatles songs will still be recorded long after you toss out that eminem garbage you thought was brilliant

Solar... you got me laughing... most here weren't born in 65 and the only way they know about the B's, is that we old farts keep playing the same old songs from 40/45 years ago.
Posted by: Cat 5 Cane | June 26, 2009 at 10:04 AM
Canez1,
Yea Neil Peart = Gangsta drummer of his time.
and Geddy Lee is one homely dude your right.
He was even uglier when he was young.
I never liked his vocals but Neil Peart's drumming and song writing were worth putting up with his nasal attack.

john lennon was one of the best songwriters/poets in the history of music. However, so was Jim Morrison....

Solar and Cat 5 my 17yr old son has turned me on to some John Lennon songs that i never knew existed. I am just amazed how much I love them. I always loved the Beatles!! But did not know much about J. Lennon's solo work. I really have a great son who has great taste in Music!
Posted by: canechic | June 26, 2009 at 10:20 AM
Canechic,
I think it's wonderful to have a kid that decouples his own preference for music rather than just listen to what "everyone else" says is great.
For him to share his favorites with his parents is even better.
When my son was very young he would be in his room and you would hear Beastie Boys, then Waylon Jennings and Johhny Cash , then Zep, then De La Soul, Marshall Tucker Band, Michael Jackson. he is still that way today.

Love the SWAG! You can definitely tell a difference in the TYPE of kid RS recruits.
Billy Sanders...
This season, Sanders hopes to make an impact on the field.
“I want to get in on a lot of the special teams,” Sanders said. “And try to get to get in at tight end too. Maybe play and start...I just want add to something to the team.”
Sanders came down to UM for a week during spring practices and saw he’ll have a chance to play.
“This spring at practice, I definitely saw that I could step in there with what I saw with the competition. I felt really good and it was one of the reasons why I decided to go to Miami.”
For those who haven’t seen Sanders, whose favorite NFL tight ends are Owen Daniels and Kellen Winslow, he described his style.
“I have really good hands,” Sanders said. “I can catch the ball. I can get open easily. I’m a good blocker. I run pretty good routes, but I’m sure-handed. I bring the defensive mentality and tenacity to the offense. I play with a lot of fire and intensity. When I get the ball I run over guys, I usually don’t try to juke around too much, I try to get upfield.”
Lets hope he's the 2nd coming of Jermey Shockey.

Anyone here near the Sarasota/Ft. Myers area? I am headed that way next weekend and I am looking for some real good seafood.

Elliott...you need to talk to Conch Salad and Truth. Truth was just over there and Conch Salad gave him tips on where to eat seafood. Be careful U may run into "J" over there!
There was somebody else too but the name escapes me right now?
Posted by: 86Cane | June 26, 2009 at 12:14 PM
elliott...if you go over the TOLL causeway to Sanibel and Captiva near Fort Myers there a couple good places to eat like The Bubble Room (no water view) and The Mucky Duck (water view and sunsets).
Posted by: 86Cane | June 26, 2009 at 12:17 PM
In Sarasota got to St. Armands Circle and select from a bunch of places to eat and shopping and great place to stroll around. Kilwins Ice Cream Shop for desert. I like The Columbia Restaraunt but there are several from fancy to causual to choose from.
Just north of Sarasota in Bradenton there are a couple of places on the beach that are great seafood, romantic and waves crashing on the beach with great sunset views also. Take Cotez Road West until you drive into the Gulf Of Mexico and you will find one of them (Beach House or something like that?)!
Posted by: 86Cane | June 26, 2009 at 12:23 PM
BTW...this via email from Jack's mom Suzanne McClinton to CGNC (Michelle):
"Michelle, thanks for all the Canespace Love for Lil Jack. Once a Cane always a Cane. We’re excited!"
We couldn'thave said it better ourselves!

I AM the REAL The Truth. WTF?
I've asked you people to not even refer to Miller as Truth on here. Thanks.
Elliot I ate at one Romantic type place in Naples and it sucked for the $$
I hit a spot in Immokalee (or around those parts) that Conch suggested. It was great but not romantic. Mostly I hit up Tommy Bahama cuz I couldn't put down the beer.
Can't help you there. J may be of some help if he's reading. Conch too.

yes by far
canesniper,
every time I watch a video of Tom Sawyer and I watch Neil Peart I feel like I'm hallucinating, it doesn't or hasn't ever been better than that right there.
I read lots of stuff on drummers.
Neil Peart said in one interview when it comes time to play Tom Sawyer his stomach used to knot up because he wanted to play it perfectly for his fans and he knew it was damn near impossible to hit it everytime.
That was right about time you saw him wearing the ball cap turned backwards covering the headset with his click track in it.
What a wonderful musician/ songwriter he is!

This Truth- fair enough, you got my respect, you're the Canespace The Truth... but i gots mad mad man love for paul pierce. most underrated player in the nba by far. dude stuck through the worst period in Celtics history, with his mouth shut, and worked hisazz off for the green n white night in and night out. he stayed patient and waited for a competent gm to build a decent team around him, and as soon as they did, BAM #17... of course, wouldn't have happened without doc ;)

Since the spurs are losing bruce bowen, they now get a better spot up shooter in jack. I never saw jack ever as a lock down defender, but popovich should take care of that. They also got Dejuan Blair, who is a beast. The Heat really should have thought about pulling the trigger on jack because they need all the scoring help they can get. But at least my cavs got shaq.
