BG,

Are you in here? I played Madden 10 for awhile since my 360 RRODed again. Instead of waiting, I bought a PS3, and rented Maddden. After getting my 360 back, I played NCAA 10. The play is slower in Madden than NCAA meaning in NCAA it looked like an ole black & white comedy where everyone is on fast forward. Man, it took some getting use to.

I'm ready for The 2009 Canespace Cup. BRING IT!!! lol

Mr Troutman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SaYsa7xUg4

This is a new up to date version of todays CANES... We definitely need more highlights because 2001 had its own time now it's the 2008 and beyond highlights YET TO COME!!!!!

360Cane

I agree as well. I'm switching from 8-4 (I used that last year anyway), and I'm going with 9-3 regular then 10-3 after ACC Champ then 11-3 after BCS bowl.

Shannon has built some depth, and brought the ole competition back to THE U. We've lacked that for years. We have guys pushing each other to their full potential and then some. It makes the entire team as a whole, that much better. I feel us getting back to the "if I get hurt, I may lose my spot, and never get it back" SWAGGER attitude.

GO CANES!!!

Question on "perceived" lack of talent FSU has to Miami. Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been reading and listening to many podcasts, articles, etc.. about the ACC and the FSU/MIA game. While FSU for the most part is perceived to be ranked higher than Mia in most preseason rankings, why do all of them talk about MIA having all kinds of talent on the field with stars at every position? FSU on the other hand is talked about having a great line, veteran QB with no playmakers and losing a ton of talent on defense? Shouldn't Miami be higher ranked than FSU? This isn't really a slight, but while the rankings are giving FSU credit, when I read articles and listen to podcasts, FSU is portrayed in a different light.

sOME GUY OFF THE fSU MESSAGE BOARD WROTE THIS AND HE DOES HAVE SOME VALID POINTS...SOMEHOW THE MEDIA IS ALWAYS OBSESSED WITH ONE TEAMS DONE LAST YEAR. tHEY SEEM TO FORGET THE HOLE THAT IS MISSING ON SOME TEAMS......USC, GA AND ALALBAMA ARE ALL STARTING NEW QBS BUT I GUEESS THAT DOESN'T MATTER TO THE EXPERTS...HELL THEY JUST THINK THEY ARE JUST GOING TO PICK UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF....WELL WELL SEE IN 14 DAYS.......

Jersey_Cane

Troutman - I think they perceive FSU to be better off for three reasons:

1. More experience at Starting QB (not to mention by that Ponder looked like Randall Cunningham running all over us...) - Don't worry, I think JH is better than Choir Boy Ponder
2. More upper Classman on the OL - Helps protect the QB and open the running game (which Bobby loves)
3. New Coordinators - Bobby's coordinators have been with him for years. Most of them are just a few days older than dirt. Whipple and Lovett are unproven in South Florida.

I agree with you. It doesn't matter what the polls and experts say. It only matters what happens at the end of 60 minutes. Go Canes!!!

Canesfan4life

I'm chugging the kool-aid. I'm thinking 10-2 with a L to Oklahoma and a slip up on another game. The a win in the ACC championship game and the it depends on who we play in the BCS game.

My picks are Byrd on O and McCarthy on D. I want to pick Spence and Jacory but those two should be excluded.

SOUP

I think the only reason we didnt last year was #1, Patrick Nix, #2 all those true freshman wearing down the stretch and the cokerites playing lb in the GT game.

Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2009 at 07:18 PM

The reasons we didn't win last year were:

1. Nix
2. Not enough turnovers/INTs by the DBs.
3. Nix
4. The whole Marve/Jacory "THING" disrupted team chemistry.
5. Nix
6. Shannon with stupid time outs and poor clock management.
7. Nix
8. Bill Young running the wrong defense for UM athletes.
9. Nix
10. Not enough Canespacers attended the games.

SOUP

Fish trailing Braves 4-3 in the 7th.

The reason we didn't make it last year players both offensively and defensively did not know the play book. Richard Gordon was the only one admitted not knowing the play book, but if you looked at how the team played last year everyone looked lost on the field. Team was more concern with not making mistakes and getting chewed by Shannon than relaxing and playing football. I know the team is young per college football standards, but most of the players were standout High school players who all of a sudden can't even make a tackle or be in the right position...I don't buy it. Based on the spring game Shannon and the coaching staff seems more relaxed. Hopefully, the team will play football and not wory about making mistakes...JMO!

From www.hurricanesports.com:

A number of former University of Miami baseball players are having strong seasons on the professional diamond this year. With 14 former `Canes currently in the majors or at the Triple-A level, Miami is well-represented at the elite levels of baseball.

Within the last week, Cesar Carrillo (2004-05) earned his first Major League Baseball win with the San Diego Padres, Aubrey Huff (1997-98) was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Detroit Tigers, and Gaby Sanchez (2003-04) was called back up to the majors by the Florida Marlins.

Last month, Jemile Weeks (2006-08) played in the All-Star Futures Game in St. Louis just days before Ryan Braun (2003-05) batted clean-up for the National League in the MLB All-Star Game at Busch Stadium.

In addition to the more established players, several former `Canes from the 2009 UM squad are already off to hot starts, including Kyle Bellamy (Single-A Kannapolis) and Chris Herrmann (Rookie League Elizabethton).

Below are some of the top performers among former `Canes in pro ball this season (statistics as of Aug.19):

Major League Baseball
Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers (at UM from 2003-05)
- 2009 National League All-Star (started in right and batted clean-up)
- Hitting .313 with 26 homers, 87 RBI and 86 runs scored in 117 games
Aubrey Huff, Baltimore Orioles/Detroit Tigers (at UM from 1997-98)
- Hitting .252 with 13 homers, 72 RBI and 51 runs scored
- Ranked second among all Orioles in RBI before being dealt to Detroit

MD...are you saying that playing football should be FUN?

What a crazy idea that is! Take it back.

Soup, if it's not fun, time to find another line of work.

MD...U got that right brother!

Any recruiting news from your area of the country? Players to watch?

SOUP

FISH lose 4-3 to Braves.

Rays tied 4-4 in the nith.

Windy1

UMike, Dayton and Elliot, the Canes may have had top rated recruiting classes during the late-Coker era, but when they lined up they definitely looked like "high school" players in terms of size and speed during those down years.

Now, when the current Canes team lines up and goes at it, I see the elite-type size and speed all over the field, and it reminds me of the teams I saw live back in the late 90s and early 80s. The Canes have officially reloaded!

MDCane

Soup, I don't follow Maryland high school football, I leave that to bg1906. I'm a Glades Central alumn so I keep track of the players from Muck City. Pahokee and GC have some good players coming out next year. I don't think they will make an immediate impact in college, but they can sit for a year or 2, and make a big impact in year 3.

miamimike01

One more solid recruiting class and another year of experience, THEN the U will be back.
Don't underestimate the importance of upperclassmen and experience. This is one department that our beloved Canes lack. The depth is still young and unproven @ QB, OL, LB, and CB, and even at FS. The Boss also says the numbers are one year away.

I'm expecting 8-4 or 9-3, but next year lets start talking about the BCS.

This was a 5-6 year rebuilding project, and this is the start of the 3rd season.

Honestly, with the additions of Whipple and Lovett, and some nice young talent returning, with 15 committments now, I like the direction that Randy Shannon is taking the program in.

Not to mention he graduates his players and our guys are pretty much staying out of trouble.

I still don't get the LOF format

Is it who will be Legends of the Fall

which of course would be J Harris and S Spence and then a descending order of everyone else.

Or is it Darkhorse Breakout player of the Fall under the misleading header Legends of the Fall?

Which would be someone other than a pre season national pick for an award at his position, that plays lights out this year.

which would be a guy that plays

There is also alot to be said about finding a coordinator and keeping him for more than one year.

The coordinator turnover has been troubling, but I think now we have two guys who fit into Randy's philosophy. Let's hope we can keep them for awhile.

Mr Troutman

Miami Mike

That is why Shannon is a little happier this year ..He finally have two veterans at both cordinators.. It has been eithier a 1st year offensive cord. or def cord. NOW in his 3rd year he has two people that coached before and was not some INTERN asst coach because that is what we've been getting lately.

miamimike01

what would this blog be without our friend solar?

LOL!

solarcane

Truth
Now that it's over and done

What were the things being said behind closed doors when Nix was first hired?

There had to be some doubts that Nix was actually a D1 OC and for sure they saw he wasn't able to coach QBs while he was at GT

peace

miamimike01

Agreed, Trout.

He's got two guys he has confidence in.

I CAN'T wait to see Whipple in action. The scoreboard operator is gonna HATE Whipple because of all the lightbulbs he's gonna have to replace...

I see lots of points, gentlemen. The drought is officially over.

i agree with you about hip making Randy smile.

I think Randy feels he has someone as good or better than any OC we are gonna face this season.

solar,

Right on, man. Wasn't Nix RS's 89th choice?

I think we're gonna see the old school type offense again. Lots of I and Offset I formations, lots of 3 WR, Oneback sets.

As long as RS is our coach, you're gonna see pro-style offense. It's tried and true, and has withstood the most serious test: time.

Plus, it attracts the right type of offensive talent that NFL teams employ.

Spread QB's ALWAYS struggle in the league.

Colt Brennan and Chase Daniels are battling for the 3rd QB roster spot(Skins). Pat White finally had to take snaps from under center and is struggling. Graham Harrell (any TTech QB for that matter), Jason White, Chris Leak? Dennis Dixon fighting for 3rd spot (Steelers). Vince Young is grappling with pro-style offense. Alex Smith?

Can anyone name a starting QB in the NFL who played the Spread Offense in college?

Nix was trying to run a Spread Offense, and RS was thinking differently and was unsatisfied.

WE GOT THE RIGHT GUY NOW

trout, that video lives in infamy man.

soup hit the nail on the head about bill young running a defense not suited to UM athletes. To me, running zone coverages are for teams who can't match-up man for man. Which i have to agree with dvd, it did set him back running zone, because zone makes you not really have a true responsibility, so when a receiver catches the ball, nobody relly feels that responsible, but in man coverage, everybody knows.

All dvd has to to do is play the ball, not so much worry about being physical with his man and he'll be surprised at how much easier that is with his speed. In fact, what the hell was dvd's 40 time, just curious.

By the way, whether soup has a fat face or big dome, the CANEpsace creation is all stored, began and continues somewhere up in their.

For real enough with all the chit chat, it's time to start knocking other people heads around besides ojomo. That guy who got dismissed from the team would have been a hell of a special teams guy.

Here's a thought, last year against Fsu, greg carr tried to abuse brandon harris in the endzone but the penalty called it back, this year it's payback time, not only for brandon harris, but we got jimmy graham going out on a pass pattern looking for any db near "U".

Those are facts yall are stating about us being in a bcs bowl game last year, we wasn't that far off. We beat Fsu or unc and we run away with the acc and play the title game. This year, i'm glad they got v-tech, Fsu, unc, g-tech all rated way higher than us. Rightfully so if they going off of last year.

This year, it's going to be fun just to see how frustrated jimbo fisher can get. He actually thinks he has an offense, he runs the same garbage nix does, just with more of a game plan and better reasoning for each play call. is wide receiver screen play calls have the proper spacing too.

guys like arthur brown paid his dues last year on special teams as a freshman. The great thing about it, when you got coaches like shannon and barrow who basically let you know after you sign of course, that they played special teams their 1st year as well and maybe even longer, than a young man has to say to himself, ok, i'm not better than them, but i'm going to be the best special teams player out their. Now, ab will get a chance to do his thing during games.

Also, does anyone know the status of willie williams, is he still on an nfl roster.

Mr Troutman

The sad thing abou this post is, at one point these actually were choices, the best thing about this post is, these choices are no more.

THat's why i like that marcus robinson audio where he talks about this year, he wants to stand-out a whole lot more, he said we're going to have a lot of guys stand-out this year though.

After this year, the o-line battles will really began to heat up. I see manny saying brandon linder will be a 4 year starter at left tackle, oh really, who is he going to unseat, james toney a.k.a. ben jones. After this year. ben jones is going to be real hard to beat out, this is basically his freshman year and for those who keep trying to compare aj 1 and aj 2, aj2 already has a leg up on aj 1 from a production standpoint, plus aj1 reshirted. Damyum, all this aj1 and aj2 talk makes me feel like transformers 1, "NBE1".
