Wow, this is the closest I have gotten!

Montreal Cane

Can you imagine Mustain who tranferd to USC....Might never see the field...

Barkley, who is just 18, will be the first true freshman to start a season opener at quarterback for the Trojans....2nd string QB is sophomore Aaron Corp...

Barkley also beat out Mitch Mustain, the former Arkansas starter who played eight games as Mark Sanchez's backup last season.

Montreal Cane

In many cases a transfer won't make you happier...

solarcane

and soup you owe CaptO an apology for saying he and I are just alike.

the Captain has a passionate, swaggerish "you limp diks know dam right I'm right" attitude

PLAYTHEFRESHMEN

We lost many more recruits by having our HC tour the country "wining and dining" kids that WERE NEVER going to come to UM and in the meantime WE never offered those local studs...

Examples were;

Alphonso Smith to Wake Forest- Clappy never offered the kid;

Patrick Robinson, to FSU- this kid begged for an offer and when UM did not get any of the OOS prima donnas, the last week of January we offered Patrick and he said: "NO THANKS"

Anthony Leon to FSU- See above

Santonio Holmes to Ohio foking State!!!- Same as above...THANKS CHOKER!!! Meanwhile we got stuck with K Jones.....

Have we lost some kids, because they wanted guaranteed PT? I suppose so..(Deonte Thompson comes to mind; Only to get benched for two seasons by the gay-turds..Karma is a biatch...)

However after researching what competition has given UM over their rivals, during the last 30 years....I will keep what's working....

Canefantasy

I what if Mustain tried to transfer to the U!? never going to happen but what if a good number two like that wanted to come to the U. do we say no bc he is just lookin for playing time and could care less about the program or do we say hell yea.

Sebastian

I wonder if alot of these kids that want to go somewhere where they feel they are going to be the man, realize its much more then just football. Do they go on to get their degree or do they also throw that chance out the window as well. I just hope these kids have enough sense to not throw it all away for the sake of pride

CanesAddiction

It's a different era in CFB now. The "in" thing to do used to be go to UM and wait your turn. Lots of good players still want to do that.

But many more than ever before will go somewhere with less prestige to play immediately. Why not? We have the internet now. If you can play football the NFL WILL FIND YOU. You can even make sure of it like that kid who got on the Dolphins pre-season squad just because he sent in his highlight reel.

You know what will help us stop losing local recruits? WINNING. Let's get back to that and watch the recruiting chips start falling in our favor yet again.

canechic

sebastian unfortunately these are 18 and 19 guys. Remember some of the decisions you made at the age? (and they are guys a bit more immature). Most of the kids ate, slept and breathed football. They were adored for their football skills and generally little else. Some see the importance of education but most cannot let that football go and they think the grass is greener on the other side......Brett Favre a perfect example and he is almost 40. so much about young and immature argument lol!

nashvillecane

wats up space..lil recruiting question...of the top wide out in so fl this year who do yall think the canes get

dlu

Canechic, so true, age is no guarantee of good decisions.

Notice , that about all of FSU seems to have given up on beating fla, this yr. surprised me, that they give up already. Sure not, all ,but I sure got that impression.

Sebastian

canechic
Luckily im now 42 and I cant remember back to the 18 and 19 year old days LOL
Its nice for the kids on this team to have a coach like Randy to not just be their coach but also make them understand how much more there is in life, with the community work, the fan friendly canefest
Some of these kids get it and some dont
Its nice hearing about almost everyone of our young players and those even coming in are very mature for their age
Of course ballahs as well

DrewZ2

great article! very good read!

canechic

Sebastian I am 40(still can't believe I am 40), I can remember some bad decisions I made and I was a "goodie two shoes". I am with you though Randy is a great leader who leads not only with words but by example.

Go Canes!

Whatever one might say about Cavaleer, the accusation that he pretends to be objective is one that's not going to stick. :)

There's nothing wrong with partisanship. Buying into the consensus gets you things like Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Yep Canechic, people just have to remember regardless of how much money you have or don't have, we all have to go to the bathroom and fire it up from time to time.
Doesn't mean you're better, in fact. you might be worst off, in fact, i've come across several people with a lot of money who are unhappy as hell. So deal with people for what he values are not how much value their wallet are worth, that's they key.

nashvillecane, if i had a choice of what 2 wide receivers we get i'd take ivan mccarthney and willis wright in this class myself and feel good about it. Also, do we really need to recruit another qb this class, that all depends on what happens this year. I say we recruit 2 qb's next years class but what do i know.

AND HELL NO TOO mitch mustain if he tried to come here. We don't need college hoppers, we need guys who know how to pick a school and ride with it. If a kid picks a school and chooses to leave it later on, that doesn't change the fact that that kid is waffling, the lesson is life will always be their about decisions & consequences and learning to deal with the consequences, ome people try and run from their consequences instead of facing them head-on.

When the fact remains, kids who transfer set themselves back, it almost never fails. So i agree, people should be allowed to chase their dream/s, but the 1st step in chasing that dream is their 1st committment, chase it their and your chances of acheiving that dream remains high, leave and chase it somewhere and the odds of you doing it just went down.

esteban, you know those projects across the street was where one of the guys that was with ray lewis that night in atlanta grew up, also les brown the motivational speaker grew up their as well. iknow the store you're talking about, especially if it was the one right across the street from the Edison field house! I use to have a girlfriend who stayed over their, been their many times, and we always use to go to that library over their and to the swimming pool over their during the summer months.

matt barkley, i'm not surprised he's starting out their, the way he was slinging it in the under armour game showed me something. Him and jamal reid had some nice connections as witnessed by many. He was poised and did his thing, he's what they thought jimmy clausen was going to be coming out his 1st year, while clausen should be good this year, NO EXCUSES! especially with that schedule they have.

As far as kids not wanting to wait their turn, that's for the kids who don't know any better, their are only going to be about somewhere around 3 to 5 percent of freshman who will make and impact thru out college football, with 5 percent being on the high side. Take our freshman, they couldn't make an impact all year because physically, they wasn't ready, but they showed flashes of things to come.

Once shannon sits down in front of a recruit and explains it to them and show them with facts, more than likly they'll buy in. ALso the point about wake forest being able to come in and get recruits can't have nothing to do with the Miami Way, because wake forest is home of the redshirts, jim grobe preaches redshirting, he's one ofthe only coaches who're still doing it, and let's recruits know they have a higher chance of getting hurt and ruining their chances as true freshman as opposse to coming in, getting in the weight program for their own protection after a year.

We'll get our recruits the Miami Way, and will win the Miami Way, guys will buy in and guys have bought in, and guys know if they're freshman and great, they'll play, if they have to wait to be great, that's ok too.

My attorney djmoonbat has advised me NOT to comment on this line of questioning.

UMike

At least the Dolphins are playing..and I can actually see the game up here..hopefully that will give me my fix until 9/7

86Cane

I may be STUPID but one thing I am NOT is "level headed".

I'm jus sayin'...

Joseph Gatz

My take on the QB situation...If I'm a DI-AA program coach, Cook and Smith approach me...we couldn't see the field at the U but here we should start. If I'm the current QB, I tell the O-line to let the D-line get these boys "like a hungry dog in a house of meat!!!!" Vinnie sat behind Bernie and won a big, shiny trophy!!!!!

dj moonbat

One thing 'bout the article: I think in recent years, NFL front offices have been willing to spend early draft picks on UM prospects who are LESS than perfect specimens -- like, say, B-Ware and Beason -- because there was an understanding that there was a work ethic transmitted from class to class at UM that was different from what existed at other schools.

It remains to be seen whether the final years of the Coker flameout have destroyed that perception. But at any rate, the thing about players wanting to get to the League is that the U wasn't just a bunch of uber-talented freaks killing time until they got drafted. It was a bunch of hungry kids who turned into extremely capable athletes by outworking other schools.

What's up peeps, don't post much but I'm trying to find out where most cane fans sit at Doak for the Florida St. game. Trying to get a ticket but I want to be around cane fans if possible. If someone can help, thanx

Nashville - Good question on WR's in this years recruiting class. I think this is a question for some of the blob's recruiting gurus (J, SuperCoop).

Miami is stacked at WR so the kid coming in needs to be a baller and not afraid of the competition.

I am pretty sure the consensus top WR of the SoFla class is Dunkley out of Pahokee but he is rumored to be a Gayturd silent.

Canes may be able to grab a local kid like Willis Wright or Harris out of MNW.

The kid out of Miramar is supposed to be good but may be joining his former QB at West Va.

Calvin

Also remember, the one thing about the MIAMI Way people keep forgetting, i've heard sapp mention it a few times, i've said it before myself, and it's people always talk about the all great players that were made coming thru Miami, but their were a whole lot of players that were broken coming thru here as well, taylor cook just added his name to that list.

shannon and whipple think alike, and one of things that means in detail, if they come up to you and ask you certain questions and you can't answer them or look confused, that's grounds for demotion and rightfully so in most cases.

six has pointed it out, as well as others, although cook was a redshirt freshman, he had no upper hand on the playbook, which is really grounds for him to be put behind highsmith, because if i'm not mistaken, highsmith wasn't an early enrollee or was he. If he was, than cook and highsmith started even, if highsmith came in with the rest of the freshman, than shame on taylor cook for being behind in able to answer questions, it all makes sense why he was being tutored more by jacory before he left.

gin & tonic said it best after the news(transfers) broke though, that was one of the all time classic lines ever posted on Canespace by gin & tonic, when he said something to the effect of:

"To our dearly departed bench warmers, this rounds on me"

86Cane

For those that care - the departed QB is transferring to Rice.

Pam Oliver may be homely but asking Williams "did the Lord tell you where you're going to get your touches" - hysterical!
