Hurricane Season Kick-off Party:
Don't forget to join the Ben Leis and the entire Palm Beach Canes Club on Wednesday Night at Miller's Ale House in East Boca Raton on Yamato Road for their annual kick-off party.
The event gets going at 7 PM and will be emceed by none other than the voice of the Hurricanes, Don Bailey Jr. In addition, former UM greats QB Steve Walsh and WR Lamar Thomas will be on hand to meet and greet Canes fans, sign autographs and answer your quesions about this year's players, coaches and season.
But wait it gets even better: Mary "Jello Shot" Clark will be on hand to welcome several Canespacers including Canezilla, SlingBlade and yours truly who will be on hand to give out Canespace T-shirts and blog the festivities LIVE from the Ale House. That is as long as we can see the keyboard and keep typing!
Camp Shannon:
We are into week two of Camp Shannon and things are starting to get interesting. Several players are now walking wounded thanks to "The Curse of Shandel" and some strange happenings on and off the field. Graig Cooper has a case of the mysterious swollen ankle as he woke up with a sore one that is now in a protective boot. Reports are that it is not thought to be serious and that Coop will be good to go for practice next week and the FSU game.
Thanks to some silly shananigans in the lockeroom, DE Adawale Ojomo allegedly was "horsing around" in the locker room and apparently broke his jaw which resulted in surgery. Rumors swirled that Ojomo may have been on the wrong end of a sucker punch but UM denied that story. It is likely that Ojomo is OUT for FSU since practice, lifting and conditioning are on hold as he recovers. It was also reported that OL Orlando Franklin was seen hobbling around The Hecht Athletic Center in a knee brace. Hopefully Big O will be ready to rumble on Labor Day at The Doak.
Price Drop:
The Hampton Inn in Plantation has announced a price drop from $99 to $89 for all Canes fans who have made or are planning to make reservations at the Canespace HQ for all 2009 games. If you have already made a reservation contact Susan Stern at sstern@princebush.com or 954-382-4500 or 1-800-675-2116 with your name and confirmation number to get your room rate reduced.
This hotel is rated among the Top 20 Hamptons worldwide, is close to shopping at The Broward Mall and only 20 minutes to The Shark via easy access from the Florida Turnpike. Come join Canespacers from all over the Country as we take over the Hampton Inn and tailgate and then celebrate another Canes victory. There is always a "party on the patio" at the Hampton!
We have been contacted by Raycom Sports Network and offered an opportunity to have our own page on their nationally syndicated blog this season.
I will be writing a exclusive weekly feature for the Miami Hurricanes blog at the Raycom site that will be linked to the Canespace blog.
This will allow us to help drive traffic to their site while also attracting more national attention to The Space.
There will be a game of the week feature, UM video links, stats and all kinds of interesting features for the fans to enjoy. The Launch is set for September and the 2009 football season. Details to follow...

If true, thank goodness we didn't sign him.

The Hurricanes spent more time on special team situations Tuesday and continued to put an emphasis on third down and red zone situations in 11-on-11 play.
McCarthy had a good day of camp, intercepting a tipped pass in 11-on-11 action after recovering a fumble during inside run drills.
Offensively, Collier thrived in red zone play, catching several passes, including one that went for a 15-yard touchdown while Highsmith connected with LaRon Byrd and Kendal Thompkins on big passing plays in 11-on-11 drills.
The heat index reached into the upper 90’s again, with a consistent wind that often gusted up to 20-25 miles per hour during the session.
The Hurricanes will hold their third two-a-day on Wednesday before taking a day off on Thursday.
Practice Highlights
· Colin McCarthy intercepted a tipped pass in 11-on-11 work and also recovered a fumble during running drills.
· A few other defensive highlights included a Micanor Regis fumble recovery and a Luther Robinson sack.
· Thearon Collier stood out among the wide receivers, picking up multiple catches – including a 15-yard touchdown – in red zone work.
· A.J. Highsmith connected with LaRon Byrd for a 40+ yard gain and Kendal Thompkins (20-25 yard gain) in 11-on-11 action.
· Damien Berry and Lee Chambers each picked up big runs late in the session.
· Mike James caught a touchdown pass from Taylor Cook in 11-on-11 red zone drills.
Post-practice notes
· Tuesday marked the team’s ninth day of camp and 11th practice session.
· The session lasted approximately two hours and 20 minutes. Temperatures remained in the mid-to-upper 80’s throughout.
· The ‘Canes will hold their third two-a-day of fall camp on Wednesday with early morning and late afternoon sessions.
· Running back Graig Cooper (lower leg) did not practice.
· The Hurricanes’ season-opener at Florida State on Mon. Sept 7 is 20 days away.
Practice Schedule
Miami will hold approximately 18 workouts prior to the first day of class on Aug 26. Eleven of those workouts have been completed. The Hurricanes open the season on Labor Day Monday Night at rival No. 19 Florida State. Hurricanes’ practices will start at 8 a.m. daily, with the exception of off-days on Aug. 14, 16, 20 and 22. UM’s final two-a-day practices are slated for Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 23. The schedule is subject to change.
TV Appearances
Miami has already has been selected for three national television appearances, beginning with the Sept. 7 opener at Florida State (ESPN). Additional games chosen for national telecasts are the Hurricanes’ home opener against Georgia Tech on Thurs. Sept. 17 (ESPN). Miami’s game at UCF will air on CBS College Sports at 7:30 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 17.

I can't stop the machine. It is what it is.
You guys should go back to the old blog and read what Scott wrote at about 11:00 pm. That should give you some insight on how when things are left to die, positives outcomes are the result.
But once stuff becomes public...
Canesaw, I already told you, I'm not sayin anything. This stuff happens. All the time and before blobs and information crazy people like yourself, it all went unnoticed - as it should.
The inner working of a football program are not for public scrutny. The putter workings are, but the day to day operations involving players is none of our business. This isn't a soap opera.

So if Ojomo got his jaw broken and he had surgery did he get it wired shut (do they still do that?) I think his buggest concern would be losing the weight because he would be on a liquid diet.
--------------------------------------------
i dunno if the OJOMO jaw-breaking is true, but Santana Moss broke his entire lower face incl. jaw during his final campaign at the U and was on a liquid diet for twelve weeks ... My friend was the maxillofacial resident on call when the 'accident' occured. The amazing thing is that NOT A SINGLE OPPOSING TEAM FOUND OUT ABOUT IT because this was before everything that happened io a players' life off the field was not leaked to the media AND the blogosphere was in its infancy. NOBODY EVER FOUND OUT that he played that whole year on a liquid diet and recovering from a rebuilt face, and unfortunately in this day in age people would immediately leak the story AND would be trying to further injure the face (be it Ojomo or Moss back in the day) by throwing potshots in the bottom of a pileup gamgtackle when there are always people taking cheap shots. I FIND IT FUNNY THAT TO THIS DAY very little reporting from the time can be found - not a police report, not a doctor who would go on record, he was never on the injury list despite the fact he was already slender and still lost 30 more pounds while drinking shakes thru straws BUT still had a season making him a first round pick ... The press never even got a legit answer as to why he was never made available until the last week of the season to the media after ballgames. DIFFERENT TINE, IN SOME WAY A BETTER TIME AND NOT JUST FOR THE HURRICANES, BUT FOR THE FACT THAT TOO MUCH INFO ABOUT EVERY PLAYER CAN GET INTO OPPONENTS' HANDS and thus is not usually a good thing.

Posted by: CaneForce | August 19, 2009 at 08:44 AM
And what makes it easier for someone like me (and J possibly) not to comment is knowing that the second I give the legion the good word, SOME of you copy and paste it straight to another blob.
Not cool.
Shannon is old school and keeps things in house. He isn't required to inform anyone of anything outside of the AD and the players parents.
That's it.
Move on. I'm sure some bozo will dig enough for the sake of recognition and the story will come out. But until then...a player is hurt. Won't be practicing and someone else will get a chance to play.

I told you all Cooper just had a "tweak"
Aaaahhhhhh...and these are the days of our lives
LOL
Posted by: The Truth | August 19, 2009 at 09:15 AM
Sebastian...As far as I know, we give away MORE stuff than The Sun Sentinel, The Miami Herald, ITU, Canesport and CanesTime give out combined! In fact, I don't think any of them give out anything at all, do they?
Posted by: 86Cane | August 19, 2009 at 09:19 AM
I just heard that Cooper has a tweak!!!!
Whats a TWEAK and is it contagious? Should we quarantine him??? Hope Shannon knows what he's doing.
Posted by: DZ8 | August 19, 2009 at 09:28 AM
We will be fine on any of the positions we have depth. Bailey can move to end or Marcus Robinson is good. Running back we are fine too. Its positions like offensive line, qb, cornerback, tight end that we cant afford any injuries and we should worry about. Hopefully Ojomo can tough it out and play with a broken jaw.. ouch..haha doubtful
Posted by: Canefantasy | August 19, 2009 at 09:32 AM
DZ8 it seems that Cooper is the first to come down with this tweak and its more contagious then Swine flu and it could spread to every player on the team..
Posted by: Canefantasy | August 19, 2009 at 09:33 AM
I think I caught the tweak back in the day after a crazy weekend with a stripper.
What!!
GO CANEZ!!!!!

I completely understand what you are saying Truth . .
I wouldn't post anything on another blog.. Except canesport but they already had the info over there like 5 days ago.
But there was no way this information wasn't going to get out.. It just doesn't happen that way anymore. It is the society we live in, it doesn't make it right. I'm just saying, I respect the old school attitude....
and everything you bring to this blog.. I think I misinterpreted your comments when we first talked about the whole thing.
I get you crystal clear now.
Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | August 19, 2009 at 09:51 AM
Canefantasy this isn't a shoot at you, some people say we're fine we can move Bailey to DE, and then they turn around and bash the coaches for making the move claiming that player so and so never found a home and the coaches waisted his potential.
Posted by: moneycane | August 19, 2009 at 09:55 AM
i'll be there along with the wife..trying to win some fsu tickets..people keep telling me that coop is out for 4 weeks damn rumors..
Posted by: canezilla | August 19, 2009 at 09:56 AM
Canez1 lol, so thats what the tweak is. I had it too, back in my college days.
Bailey will not move to DE. We are fine at DE. We would be better with Ojomo at 100% but if you had to pick a spot to lose a player at, DE would be at the top of the list.
Posted by: DZ8 | August 19, 2009 at 10:02 AM
