some nice stats for Canespace!
45-17 UM with both VT's touchdowns coming in the second half.

Jessie Armstead on ESPN First Take right now.

Skip Bayless just picked Miami 27-10

"The problem hasn't been scheme but inexperience."
I agree and even though they have a couple of games under their belt they didn't look that much better against Neb
Whip is going have their heads spinning and Foster needs to keep them focussed. My thoughts on loading the box have to with the idea the inexperience may need to be trumped by numbers.
We shall see.
Posted by: The Truth | September 25, 2009 at 09:54 AM
I agree with Truth and said as much last week. I expect to win, but as fans most here are looking past them. (hopefully the same can't be said about the team.
Posted by: shwarma | September 25, 2009 at 10:37 AM
I missed Armstead but I caught Skip Bayless pick UM 27-10. He was pissed that UM was only favored by 2 1/2 pts and hating on the value of VT's atmosphere at Lane.
Dude is a tool.

Good stuff Esteban
Solid breakdown of the game
The one player they wont be able to contain is T-Benj.
This should be a big game for Coop esp. in the passing game
He averages 209 all purpose yards per game and I see him being used on the edges this game with JJ, MJ and Berry inside
Moncur and Vernon will meet at the QB
Posted by: Sebastian | September 25, 2009 at 10:39 AM
este great analysis
good job on everything again.
I still say you sound just like Marlon Brando

Agree about Vernon's coming out day...the thing that suprised me about him against Ga. Tech was how quick he got off the ball. It's like he knew their snap count.
I think the linebackers for the canes will have a busy day. The TE's(Boykin??) was the only receiver that Tyrod could hit on those drag routes against Nebraska. but with a 90% change of rain who know if VT will even try throwing..although being down 21 will change that real quick.
Wow by vegas giving the U 2-3pts is like them saying that Miami is going to win by 8-9. Boise and VT are the two schools that vegas gives 6pts to for home field advantage.
Canes win 27-14(1 of VT's td comes from sp. teams or their D)

from last blog
I have the feeling Whipple is going to use the weather as another opportunity to create confusion.
Play action on first down in dry conditions has been brutal to opponents so far. Trying to defend our receivers on a wet field could be a big challenge.
With our receivers, Cooper, the offensive line, and Jacory all plying better each week we should be capable of getting ahead and not playing catchup in the rain.
A wet field and steady rain is a good recipe for special teams turnovers also.
Miami's speed will be neutralized a bit by the rain.
Bowden is a great punter and our punt return team sucks even when it's sunny and clear.
Kickoffs could give great field position to either team. We have a great returner, but we also give up too much field whenever we kick.
I think we win by too much offense.
Whipple has certainly proved to everyone he can adjust and exploit during the course of a game.
I hoping Coach Whipple can keep the play calling basic and methodical and not show OU anything they don't already know bout.
I don't see it coming down to the final seconds and a frantic play winning the game.
this will be a battle

What would you do?
I've got work from 3-7pm tomorrow and I can't listen/watch the game. I'm taping it to watch when I get home. Would you find out the score then watch or keep yourself in seclusion and watch the recorded game without knowing the outcome?

In case U missed it, from the official UM web site at www.hurricanesports.com:
University of Miami Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and head football coach Randy Shannon have announced the selection of three new members to the UM Football Ring of Honor. Former Hurricanes Bennie Blades, Eddie Dunn and Steve Walsh will all be placed in the Ring of Honor during halftime of Miami's home game against Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Land Shark Stadium.
"The University of Miami's football legacy is one that is known throughout the country," Hocutt said. "There are so many great players that have played at the `U'. In continuing to add to our Ring of Honor, this group exudes the success and excellence that is synonymous with the University of Miami."
The selection of UM's Ring of Honor members is determined by the Director of Athletics and head football coach, in conjunction with an anonymous advisory committee.
Criteria used in the selection process include athletic achievements at UM and at the professional level, commitment and loyalty to the continued success of the university and its athletic department and a personal commitment to courage, fortitude, honesty and integrity.

More from www.hurricanesports.com:
Jacory Harris is off to one of the best starts for a quarterback in school history, winning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week honors after each of Miami's first two games. The sophomore from Miami ranks third nationally in passing efficiency (184.07), has 656 passing yards in two games and has already accounted for six touchdowns (5 passing, 1 rushing).
Running back Graig Cooper and wide receiver Travis Benjamin have combined for 50.5% (632 of 1251) of Miami's all-purpose yardage through the team's first two games. Cooper, who has a team-high 418 yards, leads the team in rushing yards (124) and kick-return yards (238) while Benjamin has a team-best 157 receiving yards.
Brandon Harris has been the team's top defender thus far, tallying a team-high 13 tackles (six solo, seven assisted) to go along with an ACC-high five passes defended.

Is the weather going to be as bad as everyone is saying? Obviously no one will know till tomorrow, but I hate watching games in a down pour. It can always go either way...

As to last night...
CALLING ALL HOMERS!!!... I'mmm BACK!!!!
Yeah I'm back with a vengeance... but had to clean the Campbell's soup off my key board first... Soupster.. got your drift and will try to keep the novels down to Readers Digest size but I'm still miffed that you burst my balloons yesterday... must have had 25 of them bouncing on the ceiling and at the end of the day... The room looked trashed...
But enough... Today's a bright new Canes Day!
Solar... Thanks!

Esteee, good job... liked the break down. and ya got the background working... Suggest to add some spice and throw in some scantly clad UM chicks in the back ground playing red flag... lol... and some "Orange on one side" music softly rocking the house, as you bring it with some swagger!!!... Should do the trick!!! LOL
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Mc Ginnis... Glad to see you blogging again... thought we lost you to the banjo play'n hillbilly's...lol.
Saw U blogged on Manny's and responded last night... but it was late.
Contact me at [email protected] but let me know in advance, as I don't use it often.

Damn... for those who watched the SC azz kicking last night... how many noticed how much publicity we got throughout the game... Shiit, ESPN was all over our nutz before the half, during the half, after the half... pounding on us and adverting the VT game and then Okla game... For what it's worth... Damn, we're only in 9th place... Wonder what the top 4 were thinking during the hype!... Talk about build hatred...Shiit!
I realize ESPN is all about hype but give us a break until we get there... we got a long ways to go before we play Florida!
12 and 0, Hell yeah... why not!!! But we gotta win the ACC before we even begin think of Florida.... Damn!!!

The national weather service is forecasting 100% chance of rain with about 3/4" total rain for tomorrow in Blacksburg.
Is it really true that the ball slips out of players hands when it is wet and so also makes it difficult for accurate passing? Perhaps, Jacory shouldn't be wearing his visor tomorrow to have better visibility.
However, I am not sure the ball can get all that wet if its wiped down after every play unless it is pouring rain.
Strong winds on the other hand I agree can move the trajectory of the ball.

I'm heading out in a couple of hours. I'll give you a weather update. From what I've heard it's going to be a light drizzle ALL day with brief periods of light right.
No down pours. The field can handle it and I'm sure if it's that light it will only have minimal effect on the passing game.
Posted by: The Truth | September 25, 2009 at 11:56 AM
The field will probably hold up for the most part.
I hope :-)

Have the Marlins been eliminated yet?

Chicago.
We are not actively recruiting Godfrey anymore. Morris will be only QB in this class. There are a FEW out there we are interested in and that are interested in us in 2011. Bridgewater, Brissett, and a few others.

I think maybe it wouldn't hurt to take a look at a JC qb or two...Josh Huepel was immediate help to Oklahoma coming in ready to start from JC.
Have to have some depth for the next couple of years until we get recruits in.
