I think maybe it wouldn't hurt to take a look at a JC qb or two...Josh Huepel was immediate help to Oklahoma coming in ready to start from JC.

Have to have some depth for the next couple of years until we get recruits in.

No chance.

Canez1

We beat Vagine tech last year with a high school team.

BOTTOM LINE!!!

We are better in every facet of the game (except for ST's which should shake off the funk soon)

Vagine Tech just does not have the horses.

Sorry nobody beats the Miz.

Your goin down one way or another.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Great Esteban enjoyed,

I am worried about the possible mud, the U wins but it could get ugly and close in really wet conditions, turnovers, passes, and so forth, not good.

Este..

Roy Helu Jr. HAHAHA!

One thing most of the guys have not mentioned about Whipple's offense is the precison of each player on offense. O-line is in sync, running backs, routes run sharp all aspects , so it is not just the plays but all the parts of the plays.

ChicagoCane

BG - who do you personally believe is a better Quarterback prospect - Godfrey or Morris?

bg1906

Chicago.

Godfrey is a helluva QB. Very, very good. BUT he's short, so he's game translates to the spread. Morris has the tools, but is raw. But he'll benefit working with a guy like Whip and the good thing is he won't be forced to play immediately. He'll have a traditional RS year and then probably and probably won't see meaningful time (competition wise) until he's a RS-Soph or so.

dlu

Its about impossibe to be a top 10 team without a great qtback. Therefore the U should really put a lot of working into looking ahead at the qtback position.

bg1906

Other the championships which he took no part in, you think Deonte is regretting his decision?

Just got my media credentials for the UCF game

Now I'm trying to think about how I can sneek a fog machine or fire extinguisher onto the field so the Canes can come out to some smoke

"The bandwagon is closed"

Texascane

BG,

So we go into next year with a high schooler and a redshirt freshman from a veer option HS program with no experience behind Jacory...by choice?

That's where we are right now...one play from disaster.

To do that by choice would be borderline ridiculous.

86Cane

Have the Marlins been eliminated yet?

Posted by: Texascane | September 25, 2009 at 12:04 PM

No, they have NOT been eliminated. They are four games back in the wild card race and still in it.

I'm back everyone. Spine surgery was a success but they over medicated me on percocet and oxycontin and I'm in terrible stages of withdrawal. I've been going thru hell since July 6th but hope to heal totally in a month or so, but the narcotic withdrawals are pure hell, with fire like burning on my arms and throughout my stomach and lungs and for some reason I'm afraid to be alone. Go figure how the mind works.
On to the Canes.I'm trying to find out if ESPN is carrying the game up here in Michigan. I doubt it since ABC is carrying Ohio State. UGH!! So, I guess I have to break down and order the ESPN Gameplan. Stupid Comcast won't let you order a single game like other providers will.
I hope everyone is well. Health is everything my Cane Friends.
My best and love to everyone and hi to 86 and Mrs 86.

While I agree, there is no easy solution to that dilema. It is what it is.

I would support bringing in a JUCO player but I'll leave that to Shannon and Whipple to decide of there is someone worth offering a scholly to.

But I agree they should at least be looking and would be foolish not to. I bet they probably are.

I don't think so. It is just where we are. If you are going to be mad, be made at Cook and Smith. You don't go and get a JUCO that has only 2 yrs of eligibility to be a back-up. We just have to go the traditional route and build the depth at QB like we have at DL, are building at OL, RB, and WR.

DZ8

Next year the high schooler will be a freshman. The redshirt freshman will be slightly behind what Jacory was at the start of this year as for experience. Isn't that QB for Oklahoma a redshirt freshman? If any team loses their starter it is borderline disaster for them.

The only solution would be to get a JUCO but Randy hasn't really tried to get many in his time here.

JMO, congrats on the cuervo drinking home coming queen, sounds like a winning combo.

MARYLOU! U ARE BACK!!!

Canechic, Mrs. 86 and I were all so worried about U after your prolonged absence fromthe blog. Glad to see U are up and around. Hope to see you at a game later this year. Take care!

THE MAN

Does any highschools offense run even remotely close to a proset offense? Jacory seems like he was under center a lot in highschool which gives him his great vision and reads now.

Now I'm trying to think about how I can sneek a fog machine or fire extinguisher onto the field so the Canes can come out to some smoke

When questions like these arise there are only two people U should think about for solutions:

Angry and Aqua

The Truth

Jacory was a shotgun QB

True Cane aka Canian

This is going to be a tough game, I know we alot of us are saying that VT is weak but I do not believe so. Our boys need to play hard, they are now being hunted, Randy have to keep them calm, don't let all the chatter get to them. We certainly do not want them to go there as if this is a gimmie. I have to say it again " THIS WILL NOT BE AN EASY GAME". I know that we are drinking the cool-aid here but guys think about it. This team is 4 - 2 against us the past 6 games, a few of those lost we thought we were going to just walk there and we would win. The guys needs to be grounded, keep focus and play like we know they can. If they do all of the above we will be OK, but have no illusion This is not a Gimmie.

shwarma

Texas and Bg, I think you both have valid points. But here's the thing, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here. If Jacory went down then Texas is right. If Jacory stays upright then Bg is right. It's a total catch 22.

Also, I know some people have wondered if Shannon will try not to use Highsmith a snap this year so he can redshirt if possible. To me that is ludacris (yes that mispelling is on purpose) since he is still going to be our back up next year and any game experience he could get would be valuable IMO. I think we all could agree that Highsmith was brought in as a role player on this team and therefore I am not as concerned about his eligibility.

DrewZ2

I agree with everything about our offense and defense being better and we SHOULD win this game in a blow out...

BUT

We still gotta show up and put in some hard work....

Now that were ranked high everybody is gunning for us

Daytoncane

everybody look at the picture of orlando franklin. it looks like he has a six pack. impressive.

bg1906

The Man

As Truth said, J12 was in the gun. However, he always said his best attribute was his smarts or football IQ. He called his own plays in HS.

shwarma

And on the thoughts of recruiting classes, I think this class needs to be recognized as still being about numbers, as we have to get things right at certain positions still.

2011 will be the year when success and also potential playing time (2008's class will be going into senior and re-shirt junior seasons) will be in our favors and I would be shocked if we had anythign but a top 5 class (filled with the right type of guys) if we continue down this path

shwarma

Dayton - Orlando is a scary man so I hate to say this, but I think he would be the first OL in history with a six pack

Texascane

I'm not mad at anyone. No one could have seen Marve, Cook and Smith leaving.

The issue is with not addressing the problem. Jacory started two games last year and played half of every other game...Highsmith will not be in the same position next year that Jacory was going into this year.

Landry Jones at OU was the #3 QB in the country-playing the exact same offense in HS as Oklahoma. He was redshirted last year because they had recruited a JUCO, Joey Halzel to back up Bradford for two years when Bomar left.

They also have Nimmo (JR), Sherrard (RS FR) and Drew Allen (FR) backing up Jones.

Shwarma you are usually on point but this time not. You don't burn a scholly on a 2 year kid that can't help you IMMEDIATELY. Juco is for kids that can come in and play IMMEDIATELY. Kayne was juco...STARTER IMMEDIATELY! Pat Hill is a juco...STARTER IMMEDIATELY!

It is a waste of a scholly to bring in a juco @QB to sit for at least a year and maybe 2. No matter what, he's still in the same position as the younger guy. Might as well play the younger because at least he'll be there in the future. Develop your young guys and recruit. You don't see a BUNCH of coaches going out and recruiting juco QBs. You just don't and I agree with our staff that that is not the best of moves to make.

bg1906

Highsmith will play when its his time to play. Look for him to get some burn versus FAMU.

bg1906

Texas..

Good for OU but whos the guy playing??? The one they recruited from HS.

DR. Lou's UM speech.

Este that was great!!!! Hall of Famer for sure

Sarasota 'cane

bg that video is AWESOME!!!!! This "thing" has legs! I heard on th Big Dog show that we are going to hear that beat A LOT during the OK game! Let's hope so, I love it!

Go 'canes!

j.w.

Marylou, welcome back! Michigan will carry the UM game on ESPN. Anyone else who wants to know where to find the game can look here:

CGNC

Shockey was a JUCO

CGNC

bg I saw that Dr. Lou UM speech - how far has ESPN fallen to have a segment called "Dr. Lou" - and the song that goes with it? Lame lame lame......

CGNC

Hi Marylou - was wondering where you were. Sorry you had to go through all that.

The Truth

I don't disagree that having a juco come in is a good option. But he has to come in understanding he's fighting for the 2 spot.

What kid wants to do that?

And before we get all silly about "competition" who in their right mind actually believes Jacory is not, hands down, the number 1 guy against anyone in the ACC or even the NCAA outside of maybe Bradford or McCoy?

UMike

I think the rain could help the Canes...VT has one of the worst rushing defencense in the ACC, Coop and James should be able to do damage. Not only that but it will open up short passes to the rb's and te's ...but if it is not pouring, there will be throws downfield. I think Miami establishes the run first, not as much throwing on first as we saw the last 2 games

CGNC

LOL it will be raining when V-Tech has the ball too

BEERicane

Rain tends to be a good thing for a scrambling QB...

CaneSniper

34-10 Canes.

Yes i agree... the receivers are not just running routes to out run... they are making sharp cuts and making the defenders bite. Also.... Whiplash has point of releasing the ball.. and how the receiver is going to position his body too on the turn to the ball... for the qb to have zip or loft. Every play has a specific design in the miss match.

Texascane

There are no more JUCO's on OU team at QB.

Halzle (the JUCO) played last year and the year before behind Bradford...not the Freshman and the RS freshman.

When Bradford went down against TT two years, the JUCO took over. That's why you have them.

Josh Huepel won a NC for OU...coming from JUCO.

Daytoncane

if it's raining hard it's going to hurt both teams. it really depends on how hard it comes down.va tech has run a lot of spread this year and the rain will make it hard for those wideouts to cut and plant. same with our wideouts. might be a lot of slippage and dropped balls tomorrow.

i think it'll hurt them more than us because tyrod relies more on his feet to make plays. jacory is a passer first, runner second.

Texascane

Rain also means that the crowd in Blacksburg will smell better...and Saturday is bath night.
