Washington vs.
Notre Dame: Washington
Steve Sarkisian and
Nick Holt are very familiar with Notre Dame, and I think they understand how to
beat them. The question is whether they
have the personnel to pull it off – but we have seen them beat better teams than
the whining Irish already this season.
More importantly, I want to see Lou Holtz cry because he cursed the
‘Canes last week by jumping on our bandwagon.
FSWho vs. Boston
College: FSWho?
Thanks a lot,
FSWho, for your representation of the ACC! Yeah, that’s right,
FSWho? The nation doesn’t know who they
are anymore because of the egg they laid, at home, against an unranked
opponent. Frankly, I don’t think the ‘Noles know who they are
either. Their team has a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Who are
opponents going to get this week? I’m going to go with an every other game
theory. I think they bring it this week, just to fall apart with their
next opponent. FSWho, we know you have a good team. We saw it against us and BYU. Pull yourselves together!
7 USC vs. 24 Cal:
Cal
Cal looks to redeem
themselves after being embarrassed by Oregon last week against a USC team
struggling for offensive identity between rotating QBs. Cal QB Kevin Riley and
Jahvid Best were largely ineffective last week because of a poor performance
from the o-line – they will need to step it up against USC’s D or it will be a
long night. Cal hasn’t lost a game at
home since 2007 – against USC. I see Cal
keeping the streak alive and pulling out a W in a very close game.
4 LSU vs. 18 UGA:
UGA
LSU looked
unimpressive against a mediocre Mississippi State team last week and had to
resort to a goal line stand to eek out a W. I think they might be looking
ahead to Florida and could let this one slip in the 4th after a close game. UGA’s offense against South Carolina and
Arkansas looked good and I think LSU’s defense is soft. I smell an upset.
8 Oklahoma vs. 17
Miami: Miami
Now for the main
event! You might notice my analysis on
other games is a little sparse. Well, that is due in part to the fact
that I am dictating this article in an orange and green straight jacket from the
Palm Beach Home for Sad Super Fans. I was committed around 8 PM last
Saturday night after the Palm Beach ‘Canes Club game watch party (that's me below with LT#36 and Ben's Mom).
I won’t
go into a lot of detail, there were some jello shots, my formerly lucky game
day dress, frozen turkeys, and a bonfire involved and some said they
heard me singing the Aerosmith classic “Tell Me What it Takes to Let U
Go.”
On the bright side, I am not alone. My puppy, Sebastian, had
to join me after learning that I was fibbing when I told him his hero “Jacowy
Hawwis” threw for 400 yards and 6 touchdowns against VA Tech. Thanks a
lot to 86 for making him face the truth, spiraling my pup down into a deep depression
with me – Sebastian is the one who created the “Jacory for Heisman” website and
is heartbroken.
I also have a nice
roommate here at The Home who cracked after Tebow went down and is currently
bidding on EBAY for the bag in which Saint Timmy tossed his cookies, which
seems unnecessary given that the seller of said bag is committed down the hall,
but I digress. Sebas and I have been going through daily counseling (“so,
Mary, how did you feel when the punt was blocked?”) and intravenous orange and
green Kool-Aid treatment three times daily. Doctors are optimistic that I
will be released by Thursday morning so I may begin my tailgate food and
beverage prep on schedule.
Just kidding!
I think most of us took this loss much harder than we have in years
because we bought into the hype and had such high expectations for our
‘Canes. I think the team is just as guilty of that. The beat down
by VA Tech can’t be blamed on a single factor (rain, hype, Jimmy Graham) and
there are no excuses. It’s time to make like Steven Tyler and let the U’s
loss go.
I think this is a
tremendous opportunity for growth for the young ‘Canes and I think they can
turn their performance at VA Tech into a motivational tool. Here’s why:
(1) The U thrives
on being the underdog – we are going to have some focused, hungry ‘Canes on the
field seeking redemption;
(2) The game is at
night, at home;
(3) Oklahoma lost
to the only ranked team they played this season – their “impressive” scoring
average is against cupcakes;
(4) Their DBs are
not as good as our WRs – and to quote Solar’s awesome photo “It ain’t rainin’
today is it ____,”
(5) OU’s weak
offensive line.
Are there reasons
for concern? Sure, the lack of sacks and turnovers from Miami’s D and
OU’s D-line ranks 4th in the nation in
sacks averaging 4 per game and VA Tech’s less impressive front 4 made our boys
look like turnstiles.
Hold on for a
moment while I chug some orange and green Kool-Aid . . .
Ooooh, that’s good
stuff. Once it hits your lips . . .
Miami wins in a shoot
out.
Tom
I hope all is well

Hey there
Posted by: Texascane | September 30, 2009 at 07:07 PM
OU lost to BYU 14-13. Its not like their D gave up 50 points. Although BYU did pretty much dominate the game (except on scoreboard). Can we hang? I also would put OU significantly ahead of VT, as a complete team.
But, IMO home field does count for a lot, especially for a young inexperienced team with something to prove after their last game. In the old days, the OB on a Sat night was worth at least 10 points for the CANES (and on a Mon night the Old Lady was worth 14 for the 'Fins). Landshark isn't the OB, but with the CANES ranked and OU in the top 10 and a shot at 3-1 on the line, I expect The 'Shark to be rockin. The Young CANES will need that emotion from the crowd - they'll feed on it.
No score predictions from me. I was too far off on VT (didn't factor the weather or the shoes - LOL). I think our CANES can pull of the upset, but it's going to take the game of the season...better play than either the fsu or gt game.

READ THIS AGAIN.
=============================
I’m flying solo on this and will catch a shytload of flak from 86cane off the blog,
When soup said he was going to Tallahassee for a make or break meeting with the State he wasn’t kidding.
86Cane’s contract with the State of Florida is going very likely going to be cancelled.
In everyday talk Soup will probably be unemployed when you talk with him again.
What I’m proposing we do is each make a one time voluntary $10.00 or $20.00 dollar “subscription” to Canespace.
That isn’t going to make soups mortgage payment but if we all do it , it will pay the yearly cost of providing Canespace, and some of the give aways.
What’s in it for you?
Most importantly, the satisfaction of knowing you did something for soup that he would do for you in less than a minute.
Second the only powers I have on Canespace are:
Who gets comments deleted, or a lifetime ban
The other is the content that is in the two borders.
If you decide you want to contribute.
I’ll send you a Canespace member decal, plus a few other custom made Cane decals .
You will have your name or nick whichever you choose listed in a Canespace contributing member roll on one of the two borders.
This isn’t a scheme to make anyone rich, this is a bunch of friends having the opportunity to help one of their own out.
There are a lot of people in tough times right now, if this would be a burden to you no sweat.

I have been writing all summer through last week that we should not overestimate Oklahoma.
Everyone cites the 109-0 scoring stat since the BYU loss. 65 points of that cane against Idaho State.Idaho State has lost 19 of their last 20 games. Weber State, that powerhouse beat them 44-17 and they lost to Division II Central Washington this year. Enough said.
Tulsa put up 269 yards of offense on OU with a QB starting his second game. They passed on 4 field goals in the second half as they were so far behind. In addition, they ran (Tulsa running???) for 116 yards against OU. On offense, OU had 17 third down plays in the game...they weren't just running all over Tulsa's defense, either.
In case you were wondering, Landry Jones and the first team offense took every snap against both teams.
Compare the Miami defense holding the number 1 rushing offense in the country to 95 yards.
The O-Line is still a huge question for OU. Murray is averaging 73 yards a game...even against that kind of competition, Chris Brown...65 yards per game...not exactly a juggernaut.
They are 33rd in rushing offense and 32nd in passing offense even with two cupcakes thrown in there.
They are 40th against the pass. #1 in rushing defense but look who they have played.
This is not last year's OU team...and we are not last year's Miami.

Texas, way to break down the numbers brother!!!!
I honestly think we can whoop OU IF WE COME TO PLAY FROM THE FIRST SNAP TO THE LAST.
The VT game was a crock. Everything bad that could happen DID.
And even then in the 2nd half, after we scored in a minute, and were driving, Jimmy's drop had us inside the 5.
And even after his drops, SHARPTON'S whiff was the nail in the coffin.
In other words, VT didn't do much other than stop our running game in the 1st half by stacking the box, and blitzing, something I think we all expected.
As Truth said, I think it was actually a GOOD loss, if there is such a thing, and given this team's youth and lack of experience with success, something that probably would have happened sooner or later.
This game is the DL's chance to show how much they've grown.
Bailey, time to TAKE OVER the backfield and not just take on double teams.
Forston, talk is cheap. Not time to RS. Time to Rock.
Everyone else is more or less on schedule.
The ONE HUGE ???? is the MIKE.
Can Al Sharpton stop being such a friggin clutz?????? Or is Arthur read to step up and become a Knight of the Round Table??
RR coming along at SS could be HUGE the rest of the way. And what's happened to Holton and Hill and someone asked in the last blob??? And McGee??

Thanks to BG, Dat, DLU, Cat 5 and anyone else who posted articels or links to articles about the aftermath of the VT game.
Apparently, there was a mental letdown by our boys but I don't think it was the ranking. I think it was the success overall. The upperclassmen don't know how to handle because they've never had it.
The Young Lions have experienced it but don't know what it means to take it into very inhospitable conditions against a very, very motivated opponent who can play.
In all, it was a good lesson. If the coaches didn't have their undivided attention, as it seems they didn't in the time before VT, I believe they truly do now.
Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | September 30, 2009 at 08:18 PM
Injury updates anyone???
Wesley?? Vernon???
To bring up older questions....
Javarris...
Hmmm. I think he's still rusty. You can see he's a split second late in making his cuts to get to the secondary. Also, he doesn't explode the way he's shown he can. It's almost like he's still thinking out there, which he may well be.
Still, give Mike James the rock and give some to D. Berry as well, although I'm sure Shannon might wait until the easier opponents come along to let the youngins work in.
