When U are getting older, but U are still completely in love with the Hurricanes and each other like Fran and his wife of over 40 years Jean (seen below with RandyCane at R at The Shark) you don't mind driving five hours from DeBary to get to the Stadium when the gates open four hours before kickoff. Hard core UM fans are like that, and to them losing really losing hurts. But even after the tough loss to Clemson they said that they will be back to see their team again soon, just as sure as they are married.
When U love your team more than life itself, it hurts so bad to lose. After the game was over we found the JSQ in tears and threatening suicide (we think she was kidding about running out into traffic?). Text message reports from her friends were that they had her on "close watch" and that it took "sight and sound supervision" to keep her away from the traffic flow headed out of The Shark. Not even the now infamous orange and green jello shots were going to wash away her pain on this night.
The word on the street is that the JSQ is scheduled to be released from the Crisis Stabilization Unit today at 4 PM with her new anti-depressant prescription. Please whatever U do, no more sharp objects around her at the tailgate party!
When you hate losing more than death like me (#86) and Lamar Thomas (#36) do, then losing, like love, stinks. Long time Canespacer Calvin can tell U that a few months ago when someone posted on the blog that the world was going to end on December 12 of 2012, I posted this comment: "As long as Miami wins one or two more national championships by then I'm cool with that." I meant it too; every word of it.
When U bleed orange and green like MiamiMike01 and RandyCane (seen above, front C and middle C with Fran, Mitch, Money, MoneyGirl and Jean) U do what U can to support your Hurricanes. They drove all the way from Jacksonville to attend the game only to see their U go down to the Tigers at the Shark. After the game when we were back on the patio by the pool at the lovely Hampton Inn in Plantation, Mike and I tried to drink away the pain of losing with a bottle of Tequilla (Patron of course). The remedy was only partially successful as we found out the next morning that the pain was still there, but had moved from our hearts to our heads.
When U follow the team with The U on their helmet for a living like AngryCane and Canechic do (seen above during happier times at the UCF tailgate party with daughter Nicole and friends), U have no problem making the four hour trip from Orlando for every UM home game since time began. And, U would rather take a sharp stick in the eye than lose another ACC game at home. Angry didn't get his name for nothing and after the loss he required a minimum safe distance of 6 feet. Anything within in striking distance is at risk of serious, and at times even life threatening, injury. Canespace is NOT responsible for any damages if U fail to follow safe handling instructions included with the blog.
But when U really love the Hurricanes, U will travel by air, water or even foot if U have to just to get to see them play. Original Canespacer HurricaneMitch (he hardly ever blogs now, but he's still around) flew in from Nebrsaka just to see the Canes play live at The Shark. Above U see him signing the famous Canespace banner at the tailgate party before the game. The banner has been signed by hundreds of Canes fans from all over the Country and a few former players like Lamar Thomas #36 and Russell Maryland #67 and others.
So to U lazy fans out there who live within driving distance to the stadium and choose to sit at home to watch the game instead of going to The Shark like the REAL fans seen here, U are pathetic. U simply don't love your team like we do. No, U don't. Get off the damn couch and get into the game.
If we don't see U at The Shark for the next game I will have no choice but to send my boys AngryCane and his partner in crime MoneyCane (seen below) after your sorry azzes. And it will NOT be pretty, trust me on this.
That being said, we should whoop everyone's azz on the schedule from here on out. The only problems will come from depth and youth on defense, so we might have some shoot-outs.

Just a fall to a concrete surface with no where to go and no way to roll like I used to teach the kids ( coached 9-10 year olds )
In my favor it looks worse than it ever felt, just a tough old coot I guess.
Go Canes

Cav if they go from 5-1 to 7-4 Randy is in big, big trouble.
I don't see how they lose two more, so I'm not worried. But the timing of his contract is terrible should they tank late.

Fran - hell yes, you could say that being a "tough old coot" fits the bill
I've had some stitches in my life, in my head and in my hand ... but nothing like that
I'll be working on Saturday, can't make it to the Canes game. Maybe someone on the way down to Landshark could swing by and pick you up

jus went online to get my tickets for the VA game, why dont they drop the prices so they dont have 40,000 empty seats? 60 bucks to sit in the endzone..... fine by me I am going no matter what, but dam feel like I am getting screwed every time I buy my tickets!!
Posted by: DATcane | October 27, 2009 at 08:51 AM
$60 for Canes game? I'd take it, i just ponied up $220 for two tickets to go see the play "Wicked". Now it is in London, but it's not sport.
all is good this lays the foundation for me to spend big on a sporting event and when the old lady tellls me "no" but it will be "but what about the $220 we spent show tickets. Excellent (in a Montgomery Burns voice)

Arthur is on special teams mostly to reward him playing time for his work ethic and loyalty. You see him give everything he has so it's got to be short bus syndrome at linebacker.
Randy says some guys blossom late.
If you don't have litte buds on your branches by the 20th game you been in uniform chances are good your gonna get pruned.
peace

Speaking of high scoring affairs of the A.C.C. degree, Wake Forest exclusively relies on the arm of Senior Skinner, which could be a harbinger of things to come for your Canes. Especially after the slinger from Clemson torched Lovett's D-unit.
With Sleepy out, the blitz package will have to come from the secondary. That's IF Lovett even dials up a blitz, or two, or three up.
Miami's shorthanded D-line just can't maintain the pressure on Skinner for four quarters. Because that was proven Sabado past.
Nonetheless, Coach Shannon already showed his Green N' Orange trump card. For instance, on his a.m. radio interview, he specified that their would be new secondary coverages installed.

DLU, RS is trying to get a big contract! He doesn't have time to have personal issues with players therefore if AB was ready he would be on the field. The other Brown has nothing to do with AB not playing. AB's failure to get playing time is another indication that the recruiting services are full of BS with the number of stars they assign some players and it also illustrates the need of the U to keep as many local kids here as possible. News flash, Colin McCarthy is playing his azz off. Stay healthy and step it up another notch!

Arthur cannot play just like Barry could not play until he played, remember Arthur looked pretty good in spring parctice also.
Posted by: dlu | October 27, 2009 at 04:19 PM
Problem is the defense plays passive except for the front 4 dline. Always back on their heels, passive playing off on their mythical impossible assignments. Arthur is probably just an aggressive football player and has a hard time backing off. Arthur is probably like Ray Ray who did not see much time in the last game, wanting to lay people out.
Always waiting to see what the offense will do, waiting to get jabbed.
I will tilt at windmills until I see a decided change in defensive philosophy over a period of games. still mad as h*ll

He also didn't have a conference to impact his schedule.
He didn't have any great expectations put upon him, just his own.
Facilities sucked but I think thats how he would've designed it.

DZ8, very, very good point about the expectations, the other side of that coin called "tradition."
I think that's probably the biggest factor of all.

Very true. But I don't see it happening. However, youth is fickle. They really have to focuse every day from this point foward. They being the players.

Collin McCarthy looks physically imposing, he have the tools to be a pretty good NFL player, his got the numbers this year and playing as well if not better than every linebacker in the country, i'm still waiting for McShay and Kiper Jr. to give our boy the props he deserves!
