PB thats a good one, like that, A for sure.

mmo1 although UM played sloppy I gotta give Clemson credit. They made 1 more big play than we did. It hurt because Miami should have won the game and didn't capitalize, Clemson did. All part of the growing pains with this team. Was Moncur out for this game or did he play and I just missed it?

pb(CSROH10)

Moncur looked 100 years old hobbling off after each series.

My seats are behind where the D gathers when they are off the field.

JCane

For those interested, and not any big surpise, STA rb Gio Bernard verbaled to the Irish today. Not a big surprise, and likely not one when a teammate or two join him. It doesn't look like Payne or Linder will be among them, however. :)

I saw Lemonier attended the Clemson-UM game, but arrived late and left early with comments being that his friend that he came with wanted to go and that he never heard what happened in the game til later. Don't know if we should read between the lines of this attitude....

Perry has a lot of upside imo, although likely as a bit of a project. His physical presence and abilities are off the chart. His weakness is only two years of organized ball, but his potential could be huge on the DL.

moneycane

I guess I missed it pb. I was too busy cheering. I just feel like Moncur has a knack for making big plays on third down.

mi@mic@ne

from the soph to the junior is a big difference strength wise... coop and jj are not going down easy any more.. .sometimes their pushing the pile... just think if we had that across the board.

solarcane

pb,
when we turn the corner and have 9 to 11 upperclassmen playing defense at the same time, the table will be even in the ACC and 34 to 10, 30 to 7 will be just like the old days.

Remember when the only thing exciting about the fourth quarter used to be can the second team hold the shut out?

Good for U. I have to respect your age and knowledge. Many thanks for your fandom.

dlu,

ONCE A CANE, ALWAYS A CANE. It's all about the U, right?

I support MY GD FAVORITE TEAM, in good and bad times. Even when me and Randy were living in a hotel (for 15 MONTHS), I still found a way to support my CANES. I was ALMOST on the street and still supported my team, when we could. (thx 86)

If it wasn't for our LOVE of the CANES, I'm not sure me and Randy would talk to each other. UM football was the glue that cemented our relationship.

Say what U want, its that important. Not W's and L's, but watching together, talking, and spending time together. Going to games together, experiencing things my dad did when he was a kid.

I hope U can share it with someone else, like this.

It's Heaven, b/c me and Randy are Best Friends.

moneycane

I'm with you aqua. I think the team comes out rolling and never looks back. Imma go out on a limb and say DVD and Sheilds get their first picks of the year(career).

Any chance on Tony Jefferson out of California? He is a UCLA commit but has commented about always wanting to go out of state. Apparently he's looking to set up a visit to the U, among other places. Should know soon, as he's expecting to grad. in 12/09.

miamimike01

I didn't talk to Randy for a year. UM football sparked converation (99).

My first memory, as a child, 1984 Orange Bowl, Calhoun blocking the two point.

I remember my dad hugging me. Telling me,"UM won!"

Cat 5 Cane

...Sorry, took awhile... had to watch more replays...

cat5, come on man, when we ran the ball before the half, that was ok because the game wasn't on the line at that point, but when the game is on the line, here's the real deal, had we been up by only 1 point again, we would have been a whole lot more aggressive on that 3rd down, but since we were up by 3 points, Shannon felt the worst that could happen was Clemson would tie the game up and we go to overtime, well he was right....by Calvin

Calvin... Your point that Whipple should be throwing when instead he ran the last 3 plays before turning it over to Clemson with 3:52 remaining... But think back to the other games we have played ball control in the last minutes of the games.. 5: minutes and 8: minutes, all by ball control and running!

remember we had just intercepted Clemson in the end zone with 5:20 remaining and the ball is put on the 20yl... run, run and run with 3 yards for a first down... misfired... and we had to punt it.

But Whipple was doing exactly as before but this time we came up short... was he right to throw or should he have run... since we didn't get it ... Your right, he should have passed the ball...LOL ... flip a coin but had the receiver dropped it... all bets are off!!

The bottom line, we were still ahead by 3... Clemson did a hell of a job and tied us... the rest is history... but second guessing Whipple of the third time rushing in a row is a toss-up! especially sinse we were gaining great runs prior and don't forget Jacory could have changed the play on the line... maybe?

DISAPLINS GOOD BUT DONT TAKE DA FUN OUT THE GAME...WEN U SCORE A TD DONT GIV THE BALL TO THE REFS AND RUN TO THE SIDELINE...JUMP UP AND DOWN PUSH AN IN-THE-WAY OPPONENT OUT DA WAY AND SHOW OUT 4 DA CAMS...THEN SAY F*** DA REF ONCE HE THROWS DA FLAG...DAS HOW YA GET FIIIRRED UP AND DATS MY TYPE FOOTBALL

SJMPARMAN

Heart. Heart. Heart. Against VA in the last game in the OB, we all said this team had no heart. Well this year, they have done nothing but show heart. There is NO quit in this team. They show up every week and play. Even in this loss, they played hard, fought to the end. As long as we have these players with that heart, good things will come down the line.

I won't question the coaching staff on play calls, although I do think Berry should be the featured runner when you get first and goal at the five, and you intend to run it. And, was Ray Ray on the field for the last play? To me, he is Miami's best safety. But these coaches have done a great job this year, and they see practices during the week. It sucks we lost but this team is so much improved from last year. If such an award was given annually, we would win it hands down.

I actually came here to try to get more information on the timeout before the half. It seemed from video I watched, that Whipple signaled that he was ready to spike the ball before the timeout. Last year, in the California bowl game, Randy called a timeout under similar circumstances. I was wondering if anyone knows definitively who called the timeout. A spike there would have given us two plays to get a first down and still left the middle of the field open, thus allowing Jacory to throw someting in the ten to fifteen yard range. Does anyone know? I won't criticize Shannon for the timeout, if he called it, there are two theories on it, but I am curious.

Fortunately for us, it's not the attendance that recruits cares about, it's the chance to win a NC and eventually get a chance to play at the next level because of the system we ran here so recruiting wise, you shouldn't be worried about them getting turned off by the lack of fan support!

Sarasota 'cane

In 2010 for the first time in four seasons I believe we won't have a single freshman starting. Most will have from a dozen to 20 games under their belts.

Then, IMO it's time to judge.

Posted by: pb(CSROH10) | October 26, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Just got home from MNF and I lost both my fantasy games this week as well as the 'canes and Dolphin games! Grrrrrrrrrrr....

This post from PB is right on the money for me, I'll judge the D next season. There isn't a D to speak of right now. There are no gimme games left on the schedule with the depth we have. That's reality!

And enough with the "Cinn. lost 9 guys last year" stuff! They didn't lose 9 guys to injury, they lost 9 guy's to graduation, who had 9 guys replace them, who also had 9 guys replace them! Apples and oranges!

We are going to have incredible young recruits sitting all over our bench next year waiting for their opportunity to play! We should have one of the best freshman defensive classes in the country, and most will not even see the field because of the guy's that are in front of them!

I'm not an expert, but the play that Clemson burned us on was not a play they were running all night. Bend don't break is all this D is capable of right now. We were in a better position to blitz UF last year than we were in to blitz Clemson this year! That's reality!

Al mistakes aside, we had Clemson where we wanted them in the 1st OT, 3rd and 10 from the 26. We almost sacked their QB at the 35 on second down. We lost in overtime to one of the best teams in the ACC, and we beat THE best team in the ACC earlier in the year.

Timeouts because of confusion suck, but MOST of our timeouts this year have been to save or prevent scoring. That's what timeouts are for. You can run a 2 minute offense without a timeout. If you need a timeout to run a 1 minute offense, 8 out of 10 times you were already screwed anyway!

We have had some terrible clock management at critical times over the last two seasons, but those are issues that will correct themselves with depth and maturity. Didn't Jacory use our last timeout?

Jimmy Johnson and Co. didn't exactly shine during the Fiesta Bowl against Penn. St. now did they? He turned out OK in the end though, didn't he? Could you imagine what they would say about Randy if he had to deal with the adversity of losing a NC that HE SHOULD HAVE WON BY 10-20 POINTS?

If Randy's 2011 team looks like the 2009 team, then I'll light all your torches before we run Randy out of town! (Just kidding!) But the reality of our program is that if the 2011 team looks like the 2009 team, the administration will have already done it for us.

Nighty night!

Go 'canes!

Mike Leach is awesome

His press conference after getting blasted by Texas A&M, ragging on his players listening to their fat girlfriends instead of keeping their mind on their priorities

"The coaches failed to make our points more compelling than their fat little girlfriends.

Now their fat little girlfriends have some obvious advantages. For one thing, their fat little girlfriends are telling them what they want to hear, which is 'how great you are' and 'how easy its going to be' and we had a bunch of people who wanted to win the football game but nobody wanted to play the football game."

To MM1,Randy,Money,MoneyII, canechik & great family,Mary,Mitch,Tom & everyone else we met at the Shark or UCF for making our first experience with tailgating so terrific.
I am waiting for one of our kids to announce availability to drive down for the Va. game with me. I find I do not want to go alone. I am so used to having a back-seat driver( Jean doesn't read the blog)that I might lose consentration while driving. The # of times we were cutoff and had drivers jump in front of us and hit the brakes has been un-nerving. Please know I am not a slow poke I set my speed control on I-95 for 5 miles over the posted limit and stay in one of the R/H 2 lanes, but those who need for speed takes them to 80-85 and are willing to zig & Zag are dangerous to me and themselves. A note after aprox 900K miles or more driving in Florida I have never gotten a speeding citation.

Rusty has posted a video of the "altercation" between Whipple and Shannon. Look at the 2:17 mark at Mike James' face. Says it all.

However, coaches spat all the time. I don't think its that big of a deal. Just bad to see on TV. Shannon said there wasn't an issue and I think that is his way of saying none of our business and he is right.

I think our problems defensively are more depth related than scheme. We are getting thinner and thinner as the season progresses and that is expected. Grant was in there...just not as much as normal. With Jacoby Ford lined up in the slot a lot you know you weren't going to see Grant in there sticking him all game. Had Brandon Harris take that responsibility a good bit - at least almost every time i paid attention to it.

and just watched the video bg posted. I hadn't seen the end of the half INT til now. My directv signal went out right after the 12 men in the huddle penalty. Yeah that was a bad INT. And hopefully Ben Jones is ready to play LT next year - if not him Corey White or Plein or someone. Franklin can play tackle maybe. But RT not left. i'm kind of glad I was wrong about him switching out to tackle this year. made ricky sapp look like a fierce pass rusher.
